    Lid lock

    I submitted a claim to the warranty insurance regarding our washer lid not opening. After a week and parts arrived. The repair company set an appointment. The tech Yuri took 3/12 hrs working on the machine. The lid would not open. He said he had to request the part. One week later, I get a denial from the insurance stating we had tapered with the lock. Wow! What a lie, totally deceiving. These people are terrible. I will have to fight with Allstate now about this. This guy had the whole thing taken apart and never said anything to me about what he is claiming. Very upsetting.

    The fuses for my FUSIBLE DISCONNECT box they reported as a needed upgrade to my warranty company.

    UPDATE: AC is fixed! Fan and motor were repaired. No box upgrade. On 4/14 -FAHW's contractor relations dept told me they had spoken to SmartChoice & they were now claiming the upgrade was for my box being out of code. I had a claim specialist from FAHW on the phone who could not explain what was out of code with my box, only that my warranty will cover $250 of the upgrade per my contract re code violations, and I had to agree to pay $124 or else the fan repair could not be scheduled. 3-way-called SmartChoice and was eventually connected with supervisor Sophia after a back and forth with Oscar. Sophia was apologetic about my experience & explained the upgrade was recommended by the tech due to code concerns. I looked up code(NEC 440.10 and 440.14) and went down the list of criteria for acu disconnect boxes while I had both on the phone and she could not definitively say how my box was out of code and only that the upgrade was a recommendation they made to my warranty company, not a REQUIREMENT. She stated that FAHW insisted on classifying the upgrade as required, SmartChoice did not & that they were fine repairing just the condenser fan. She stated that before she could schedule the technician to return to complete the fan repair, I would need to remove my review. I told her I would not and asked if that means she would not schedule the repair? She stated that what I posted was untrue as they have tried to help move the repair along. I reiterated I would not and that I was careful to only include factual details in my review. I asked again, "so the repair will not be scheduled if I don't remove my review?" She said she would schedule it, but would appreciate my cooperation. (That'd be a violation of California Civil Code § 1670.8 if she didn't) Their tech, Gerard, was scheduled to return to my home on 4/15. He began replacing the condenser fan motor and explained the fan itself was rusted and he would need to return 4/16 to complete repair. I was able to meet Gerard on 4/16 and asked him why an upgrade to a fusible disconnect box was included in his report that was sent to my warranty company/FAHW. He said he did not recommend it be upgraded and that he might have noted the box is loose and missing screws. (The box is not loose nor is it missing screws from what I saw). I told him that I went on my roof to verify it was a fusible box and that it was up to code. He said there may have been miscommunication with what he reported because there was another call that day that had melted fuses in their box. $379 bc of a miscommunication is WILD. update to 2 stars since the repairs completed. Original: 1 star review Tech reported to my home warranty company that my disconnect needed to be upgraded to a fusible one and advised I would need to pay $379 out of pocket for the upgrade before they would repair my condenser fan on my ac unit. I went on my roof to the ac unit and confirmed my unit has a fusible disconnect box. The tech removed the pull out from my disconnect box and seemingly tried to hide it under my solar panels. The SmartChoice rep, Oscar, claims that the upgrade is only recommended, however cannot explain why since I already have a fusible disconnect box. Since that's what was reported to my warranty company (FIRST American Home Warranty), my Warranty company needs them to explain why the upgrade was reported as needed and Oscar keeps placing them on hold and not returning.

    Kitchen Aid induction range

    Aleksandr L, was the assigned technician for repairing the kitchen aid induction range, which a week ago the technician sent yby Kitchen Aid factory service had declared unrepairable. Aleksandr and his colleague had an extensive detailed call to troubleshoot and were able to diagnose and order the correct parts. The induction range was functional like new again. I am more than happy as it saved us a few grand towards a new appliance purchase. He was friendly, diligent, paid attention to detail, cleaned up after and did not leave a bunch of loose parts around. Would reccomend Aleksandr and the Smart choice for appliance repair for

Jeff Kieffer came out the day after I called and provided an estimate and a proposed plan, and the owner, Diego Martinez, visited my house twice, once to explain how a difficult room would be accessed and serviced, and the day the work began to answer any final questions and give final directions to the installation team. The process was smooth and efficient: * The team arrived on time, were extremely courteous, and Diego, the owner, showed up and took the time to explain everything clearly one more time. * They handled the installation with care, keeping the work area clean throughout the day. No mess left behind--they even vacuumed up and wiped down areas they worked in. * The crew was knowledgeable, answered all my questions patiently, and made sure the new unit was perfectly sized for our home (no shortcuts or upselling) * They tested everything thoroughly before leaving, walked me through the operation of the new thermostat (Ecobee Premium), maintenance tips, and warranty details. It's only been a short time since the install, but the difference in comfort is night and day. For context, during this period we had a newborn and significant personal obligations. When the visit occurred, the noise did not happen at that moment and no technician evaluation or adjustment was performed as a result. I later recorded the noise when it occurred and shared video evidence. Despite this, no diagnostic visit was offered. My review reflects both the unresolved issue and how it was ultimately handled. After posting this review, the business responded by disputing timelines and attributing the issue to unrelated work, but did not offer to inspect or resolve the ongoing airflow/pressure noise, despite video evidence. The attic cellulose work referenced was recommended by their team and performed by a contractor they referred. I had an air conditioning unit installed by Evolution Air in 2021. Since installation, the unit has intermittently made a loud "farting" or bubbling noise. I reported this issue within the first year. A technician came out, but unfortunately the noise did not occur during the visit, so nothing was adjusted or fixed. The problem has continued since then. After researching the issue myself, I found multiple discussions on Reddit indicating this is a known and common problem related to airflow or pressure adjustment, and that it is typically an easy fix for an experienced technician. Despite this, the issue remains unresolved years later. Overall, I'm disappointed that a known, recurring issue reported early on was not properly addressed, and that I've had to rely on online forums to understand what should have been a straightforward adjustment. Kirk was FANTASTIC! Our unit is 20 years old, we have never really had regular maintenance on it. He showed up super early (they asked if that was okay, and YES thank you). Before he arrived they sent a text with his name and photo. I absolutely love this! That extra safety is so important. Kirk looked at our unit and asked some questions. He explained all they do with the "family plan" so we signed up. I am one of those that needs to be reminded of scheduled upkeep so this is perfect. He gave us the estimate before he started and I asked for a very rough estimate of a new unit (having no idea) so we decided to go with repair and hope for the best. The repair wasn't cheap but considering all the work that needed to be done as well as it being an older unit, I feel it was a very fair price. I think we did have the best with Kirk. He was able to repair our unit and give it some much needed TLC for our AC unit and furnace. He even installed our pre-purchased thermostat! Kirk was polite and considerate. He took time to answer all of our questions and ensured us that we could reach out with any questions, I believe him. Service people can often be rushed, there is a lot of work out there, but not Kirk. He didn't waste time either, I felt like he was in and out in no time at all. By the time he left we understood all that was done and what we need to do to get some additional service from our current unit. I could not be happier with the call I made this morning. My husband helped me connect my Ethernet cable to my work station that is located in the room behind our closet. In order to do this, he went through two walls and found out he punctured through our hvac duct. Oopsie. We saw pink insulation and knew it was our boo boo. Sean was my tech for the day. They have a nice text notification of the tech with a small biography. This was a nice personal touch. Sean was so kind to wait 10mins for me while I finished a work call. He was friendly and professional. I informed him of the issue we identified and he was able to verify we did in fact puncture it with a scope. He showed me the photos after. While he waited for the owner to assess the project for pricing estimate. After he got the estimate from his boss, he explained everything to me. He even hand wrote the estimate in cursive- a lost art that I appreciated seeing. Even though I did not go with either one of my estimates due to high pricing for a relatively small project ($945 Haven, $850, $1025), I greatly appreciated the great service from Sean. Gave them a call and Mike the owner set up a time that day to check out what the problem was. Jesse came by that same day to check it out, and we went through all the test including refrigerant, condenser, contact board, and checking the coils in attic. None of the test looked too good, and the outside unit was definitely leaking refrigerant. In the end we decided to change out the entire ac unit as well as the coils in the attic. The price was fair, and they were here early morning next day. Their hard working team of 3 worked most of the day putting in the new unit, and by mid afternoon we had AC again. I definitely would recommend their AC services and would use them again.

They were referred to us by the company who installed our HVAC but who no longer service residential customers as they've moved on to commercial businesses. The technician who came to our home was on time and was very friendly. I had scheduled the appt also to check the air duct to one of the rooms in our house, because the airflow there has been weak. After spending some time servicing the HVAC unit outside, the technician came into the house to check the airflow from room to room, commenting that we have "amazing" airflow and agreeing that one bedroom had minimal airflow. He goes up into the attic to check it out. Comes down and tells me that the duct system in our attic is "terrible" and it "looks like whoever did it didn't know what they were doing and slapped it together". He also told me that he saw that the duct going into the master bedroom in the corner of our house was in really bad shape, that there was a kink in the air duct that was making all the rooms in the house have weak airflow. He showed me the "kink", where the duct simply wraps around one of the load-bearing structures near a corner of our attic. I pointed out to him that he already checked that corner room and said the airflow was "amazing" and that one of the other rooms off that duct also had "amazing" airflow -- he got the room wrong. It was the middle room that had weak airflow. He laughed off his mistake, continued to tell me that all six air ducts would need to be replaced. I asked him why, when the airflow to the rest of the house was exceptional. He told me because "they're connected". Full transparency: We own/run our own construction business and I helped rebuild this house with my own hands, so I'm not an idiot. I know very well that you don't need to replace all ducts to repair one. Not sure if he would've said the same thing had he been speaking my husband. The technician went on to tell me that we also need to rebuild the box attached to our main furnace, that the prior company made a mistake building a cylinder unit above it, when it needed to be a square. I asked him how an extra inch of square-ness would improve the issue we were having with the one duct. He told me that the cylinder was insufficient and that it would ultimately kill our HVAC unit. The cylinder, I pointed out, was built that way because we have multiple plumbing pipes that criss-cross around the space above the furnace. He went on to describe how he would customize a new box to fit the space, which essentially mean he would be creating ... another type of cylinder because you simply can't put a square box in the space. It was nonsensical. I asked him three times to explain why the entire duct system needed to be removed to improve the one duct that was having issues and he kept trying to convince me that the materials used and the way they were installed seven years prior was "the worst" he's ever seen. That he and his boss (Ryan) go to classes "every month" and know more than the average HVAC technicians. They're "experts" and clearly the company that installed our system were not experts and didn't know what they were doing. He then proceeded to tell me that the "amazing" airflow we had in the house was *too much* airflow and that the new duct system would make it "perfect". The cost to replace the entire system was $5700. I contacted the original team who did our installation seven years prior. He confirmed that it was absolutely not necessary to replace the system that a simple fix on the one duct would be the right thing to do, and then told me he spoke with Ryan Hall, the owner of American Comfort Air, who admitted to him that "they don't do repairs, they only replace entire systems" even if it's not actually necessary. That his technician is "sales driven" and saw an opportunity to "expand their business" because they only work on "larger jobs". In other words, they were taking advantage of me, willing to remove and dispose of a perfectly good system just to make money for themselves -- all while trashing the reputation of another business that is sending referrals their way. I know these businesses are trying to make money. I know there's manipulation taking place all the time, to convince us there's a problem where there might not be one -- I'm smart enough to see through that -- but to trash the company that is sending customers your way is a whole other level of unprofessionalism, and for that, you don't get any respect from me. If I could give you zero stars, I would. You just lost a customer.
