This place is incredibly well run for having so many undergraduates students as employees. It is impeccably clean and the staff is friendly. There are so many great menu options and everything is environmentally conscious. read more

Nice little spot on campus, went on the morning before a football game so they had a buffet style brunch with both breakfast and lunch options. Food was good and the servers were good as well, their peanut butter buckeyes were amazing!! read more

Absolute worst service I've ever experienced. Estimated wait time was 18 minutes and I waited over an hour for eggs, pancakes and a burger. Asked multiple times where my food was and was told "just waiting on a few things." Everything came to me cold except the burger and my milkshake would not have been made had I not asked. Would not recommend if you have any desire to not wait over an hour. read more

Stopped here for lunch while visiting OSU. Very busy at lunch time. Has the ambiance of a 50's style diner. Menu has a lot of breakfast and lunch items. Burgers were good, not great. Sloopy shake was very thick and good. Sandwiches are generous. Overall, good, not great. If you want a sit down dining place this is a good choice. read more

Sloopy's Diner might not be bringing anything new to the table, but the food that it brings trumps anything that is offered on campus, besides the Heirloom Cafe of course. Unlike the food in question served at the libraries and cafes, the dishes are actually cooked to order, which is a refreshing change of pace. While the sandwiches and entrées are all satisfying, the breakfast plates are one's best bet, and the fact that they can be ordered late is very convenient when, say, one is stumbling in at 2 in the morning and wanting a stack of hot pancakes. If one is in the heart of campus or at the Ohio Union, it would be worth making a visit to. read more

A satisfying alternative to the typical cafeterias and food service places on a college campus. Sloopy's Diner appeals to patrons who savor eating out, travelers who are looking for a standout eatery in Columbus to dine in, Ohio State students who desire to have a break from the rigors of studying, and Buckeye fans. The entrees are pretty good. I think the turkey club sandwich along with fries and the mexican dish featuring fajitas are first rate. The desserts such as strawberry and chocolate ice cream are superb items that can help conclude your dining experience on a high note. The waiters and waitresses are OSU students and are very affable and professional in the fashion they perform their duties. They even welcome some conversation. One time, I chatted with a waitress and asked what she was studying at the school. It's another way the place can be a satisfactory experience. Also, the waiters and waitresses have a positive attitude in doing their job, which makes you want to plan for return visits. A drawback of Sloopy's Diner is you may need to wait a long time if the place is busy with customers. If you're in a hurry to eat, the alternative is the food court at the Ohio Union. But overall, it is a top notch eatery. read more

We ate here to fully experience OSU and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is 1950s diner. The staff are super friendly. The food was fine. The only downer was that our poached eggs & toast, taco salad, and a wrap sandwich took almost 30 minutes to arrive. My sister and I visited Sloopy's for dinner on Thursday, October 15, 2015. We are from the Cleveland area, but we drove my niece to Columbus to see a show at the Newport and decided to hang out in the Ohio Union while we waited for her. The union, by the way, is an amazing facility. OSU students are fortunate to have such a great place to gather. But back to the topic at hand.... We decided to have dinner at Sloopy's, a "diner" built with a retro sensibility that we enjoyed as soon as we entered. Classic diner decor was recreated flawlessly, from the boomerang Formica table designs to the iconic bar stools. Also, '50s doo-wop was played in the background, including "Next Door to an Angel" by Neil Sedaka, a favorite of mine that I rarely hear anywhere these days. Nice touch. The menu was varied, and I happily ordered my favorite meal, a corned beef Reuben, and paid an extra dollar for french fries. I was delighted to see a few old-fashioned soda selections on the menu, so I topped off my order with red cream soda. I received the soda first and immediately noticed that it had almost no syrup in it. It tasted like plain soda water, so I asked the waitress if I could have root beer instead. It had more flavor, but seemed watered down to me. The Reuben looked great on the plate, and I dug in immediately. Right away, I could tell there was only a tiny amount of sauerkraut (I could hardly taste it) and the Swiss cheese had almost no flavor. It was basically a corned beef sandwich and not a Reuben. I also noticed that, despite the fact that the Thousand Island dressing was supposed to be on the sandwich, I could not see any on mine. Our excellent waitress was quick to bring me a small cup of it, so my sauce dilemma was resolved. My only other complaint about the sandwich was that it was room temperature, not hot at all. The fries, on the other hand, were much colder. While the ones in the center of the pile were room temperature, the fries around the edges were downright cold, as if they had been taken out of the refrigerator and placed right on the plate. They were inedible. So, the food was disappointing, but the prices were good, and the service was super. Our waitress was top-notch, and everyone working at the place made a point to acknowledge us in the most helpful and pleasant ways possible. When we went to the cashier to pay, we were pleasantly surprised to find that no tip was necessary (they are worked into the cost of the meal). Of course, if we had decided to leave a cash tip on the table, this could have been awkward. In all, Sloopy's was a fun experience, and even though my meal was disappointing, the students at the tables around us seemed to enjoy their giant pancakes. I doubt that I will visit Sloopy's again, but if I do, I'll order a giant pancake. read more

Terrible service, understaffed, and average food. Waited an hour and a half to get food. Unhappy college student.

They provide the absolute the worst service and overall customer experience in all of Columbus. Your presence is ignored by the staff. The servers, hosts, and managers lounge around and don't offer you any assistance until they are done texting, socializing, or goofing off with each other. This is before you get sat at a table! If you are sat (and that's a big if) your server doesn't approach your table until you raise your hand and ask for service. However, once you try to get some attention half the time the servers scurry to the back and come back out to "serve" after about 5 minutes has gone by on the clock. If you do get service it is obvious that the people have not been trained. They fumble around awkwardly and look so weak and helpless. Your food eventually comes out after a long wait. You can see into the kitchen and see the cooks standing around chatting, laughing, and making dirty jokes until they find motivation to actually work and make up an order. If you complain about the poor service nobody cares or offers a genuine apology. They treat you like you're the one with the problem. They give excuses like, "We're always short staffed.", "Good workers are hard to find.", or "Couldn't you see we were busy." None of those factors have anything to do with my criticisms. I've eaten breakfast at this diner at least 2 times a week this semester and it's the same deal every time. The people don't want to work and don't care about providing quality service. It's a shame because the food is actually alright and the 50's atmosphere is very positive. Ohio State University management needs to come down heavy on this restaurant and make it better. It doesn't take a whole lot of effort to do well in the restaurant industry. read more

My husband works for Ohio State and it is hard to find family friendly places (that have high chairs) near or on campus when we want to visit him for lunch. This place was VERY family friendly. They had a good sized kids menu, straw cups (with lids), high chairs, and crayons. The staff were very nice to my toddler. The food is dinner style (of course). My husband got a hamburger, I got chicken cheese steak, and my son had grilled cheese. All of them came out well cooked and as expected. The price is VERY reasonable and include gratuity in the price (since some students use their dinning plans there). We will be going again. read more

Yes the waiters can be a little or completely awkward ( You don't have to call students mr. or sir) and the wait to get your food is usually bad but the breakfast food makes it the best place to eat on campus and it doesn't hurt that they have a bevy of four seasons classics playing. I've gotten the breakfast burrito as well as chocolate chip pancakes and both are good. The baked goods and milkshakes (m&m milkshake? Where do I sign) are also really good and much better than the muffins or cookies found at other campus spots. Also the prices are reasonable compared to other campus eateries. read more

We went there after touring OSU as a potential college for daughter. Had to wait for seats and 2 of our 4 meals were served 10 minutes after the first 2. However the pot roast was so good & melted in our mouth. Definitely worth waiting on. Next time, we are all going to get the pot roast. The diner is staffed by students in the program for restaurant management. My suggestion was to add a couple gluten free food items. We will return. read more

After waiting over 30 minutes for a table, one might think that the wait staff would be friendly and/or apologetic, and try their best to give guests a positive experience for the duration of their meal. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. After being seated and ordering our meals within five minutes of being seated, it then took an additional hour for us to receive our food - a total of an hour and a half of waiting around and having no idea what was going on. There was no apology or explanation, our milkshakes were half-melted, and our food was cold. Additionally, each one of our plates were brought out at different times, so that it took almost ten minutes for the five meals to collectively be placed on the table. All things considered, Sunday lunch is a busy time for restaurants in general but there is no excuse for poor service and unnecessarily long waits, partiularly with no explanation or compensation given. read more
