We ordered the platter w two sides - totally recommend the cornbread w maple butter. We also had the slaw (made without eggs so allergy me was happy w that). Unfortunately pork ribs were hard and dehydratedly jerky-fied :( The two chicken drum sticks were delish and the pulled pork somehow melted on the tongue. Husband (who used to participate in bbq cook-offs) thought the pork ribs were way overdone (yep) and the pulled pork was being carried by the bbq sauce they use. (I loved the pulled pork). More cornbread please! Enjoyed the coleslaw with its mild peppery finish. All went down quite nice a two beers. Inspired husband to return on the weekend when brisket will be served. Went here recently for first time... ordered various meats and sides, and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the small portions provided for the prices charged. What was advertised as serving numerous people barely fed 1-2, and we were still hungry after that. Found the meats to be quite bland and dry as well. Even the side dish portions were tiny, as they were provided in little bowls. While the staff were pleasant, for the prices charged and the "slim" portions provided, I left feeling "slim" in both my wallet and stomach... so that will be the last time I visit Slim's BBQ. read more

Tasty BBQ place on Main at the junction with Kingsway. Interestingly enough, they also advertise that they cater to vegans. Parking is a bit limited here. Best to look on the side streets E of Main. The interior has a nice rustic look. I imagine they're going for the Texas feel, but can't really be sure. Staff are friendly and cheerful. No complaints. Tried the Bubba platter. The menu claims it's for 2-3 people, but it's honestly not that big. 2 people can clear it pretty easily. Comes with pork butt, pork ribs, fried chicken (almost like schnitzel), and barbacoa (slow cooked) beef. For the sides I would recommend the mac & cheese. Everything was pretty tasty. For drinks I had the sweet tea. Actually pretty refreshing. Food is tasty here, but the portions are smaller than the likes of Memphis Blues. With that said, I wouldn't mind coming back. My best friend is vegan and never in a million years would I imagine that we would be able to enjoy Texas style bbq together. I really appreciate places like this that allow any and all food preferences and restrictions as it gives everyone a chance to enjoy their meal. We came in on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. The restaurant gives off very casual hipster vibes and we sat quickly and ordered. The waiter (who was also the bartender) was helpful in giving us recommendations that would suit our tastes. When the food arrived, we immediately dug in and I don't know if it was my hangover but my food was very very delicious! The corn bread was moist and sweet and went well with the tender pulled pork. My friend also loved her vegan brunch plate - especially the scrambled eggs. The food was incredibly filling and I had leftovers to take home afterwards. This place may not be the best bbq place ever but it sure does satisfy the cravings of many - definitely will be back! read more

As a native Louisianan I can't say enough about this place! Seeing other reviews it feels criminally underrated -- everything I've had is super high quality and extremely AUTHENTIC. On top of that, I can't believe they offer so many incredible allergy friendly accommodations to make things GF and vegan. I've been back twice now to have the brisket sandwich on a GF bun. The brisket is some of the best I've had and is a huge portion -- cooked perfectly, moist, and with a balanced tangy BBQ sauce. Their GF bun (also vegan) is delicious and holds its shape. The tots are not over fried have the perfect amount of Cajun seasoning. And to top of all off the sweet tea is exactly as it is in the South. The staff is very friendly, attentive, and welcoming and the decor is charming and again, authentically southern. I feel right at home. However my only complaint is the blaring loud death metal music thats just annoying on any given day. Tried Slims BBQ for takeout, and I quite enjoyed it! Its not often I try Austin styled barbeque and I'm glad to have visited this rustic spot! Tried the: Chopped Brisket BBQ Burger ($17): I loved this! Really loved how flavourful, fatty, and juicy the brisket was! Highly reccomend! The side we chose was Broccoli and Cheese. Smoked Pork Butt 1/4lb ($13): Found this a little dry, and it just taste dlike regular pulled pork. Realized the 1/4lb was a realllly small portion, so if you're looking to shared, definitely upsize it! The side choice we chose was a Mac and Cheese (it was spicy!). Having seen that they cater to "vegans and carnivores", I checked their menu to see what was or could be vegan. They don't have much in the way of BBQ items that are vegan, but they have a pretty attractive brunch menu with default vegan and veganizable options. So we decided to stop in for Sunday brunch. From 10am-12pm, they have "happy hour", which includes $2 bottomless coffee -- a very good deal. For mains, I got the tex mex scramble ($14 plus tax), made vegan by subbing the eggs for vegan egg (I assume JUST egg) and the pulled pork for the BBQ jackfruit. The scramble part was interesting, served with lots of de-seeded jalapenos and pickled red onions, which gave it a bit too acidic a flavour. Still good, but a little unbalanced in flavour. The potatoes served with the main were very good, but I question why they serve the dish with what looked like a white hamburger bun; don't they have a nicer bread / toast option? 3/5 overall for this dish. My wife got the garden scramble ($14 plus tax), which comes default vegan with vegan eggs, Blue Heron cheese that worked really well with the dish, cherry tomatoes, and orange bell peppers, and served with the same potatoes and bun that the tex mex was served with. Her scramble was much more interesting and cohesive with the cheese and veggies. Very creative dish. 4/5 Service was top-notch: super-friendly, attentive and charming. Interior-wise, the place feels like a cross between a diner and some sort of old school cocktail, grungy lounge. All in all, interesting spot with well-priced brunch options, lots of interesting vegan options, and great service. Recommended. read more

Came here on a Friday, the servers and bartenders were very welcoming. We ordered the nachos with chicken as an appy, pork butt with chili, And beef barbacoa with mac and cheese. We also ordered two drinks, the Long Island Iced Tea. And the beer with a shot of jameson. We ended up mixing the Jameson and the beer and it actually wasn't too bad. Not your typical bbq joint, but it's Main st. so of course it's different. A bit of a hole in the wall but their ribs are some of my favourite in town. I will start off by saying that one should stick strictly to the bbq items and that some of their menu items should probably be avoided. The two items that I tried and would advise against are the Po Boy and the Fried Chicken. The fried chicken is seasoned very heavily and will absolutely evaporate your mouth. The Po Boy is just bland, no better flavour than a mickey d's filet o fish. But back to the good... As I already mentioned, these ribs are amazing and their peach chipotle glaze is quite unique. The brisket also had good flavour but could've used some sauce as the smoker did leave it a bit dry. Their mac and cheese is very tasty but also spicier than you would imagine. The serrano cheese spinach was decent as well but I didn't really care for the pepperiness. Overall a fun and unique spot in town worth checking out. The food is different, for better or for worse. Some will like it and some will hate it but I love that polarizing character. I should also mention that the music was terrible and they were playing loud EDM/nightclub beats all night which seems odd for a barbecue joint. read more

All the meats are gf, they have a dedicated fryer, and there are even vegan and vegetarian options, which are rare on a barbeque menu. We tried the ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, fries, and slaw. Everything was excellent. Style-wise, it's a pretty standard little bbq place but cozy. We live in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood so we wanted to try this local BBQ restaurant for some time. So, after some research, we decided to go for an early Saturday dinner as they only serve brisket on Saturday. We ordered 1/2 lb of brisket and 1 order of their smoked & fried chicken wings to share. Sadly, we were disappointed in both. They were dry and flavourless. With two beers, the dinner was about 70 dollars. For 1/4lb you will only get a small bowl.. * PORK RIBS $15 HALF RACK : menu says "PORK RIBS $15 HALF RACK". I enjoy it a lot. It's a bit sweet and tangy with nice smoky flavor. It's a little bit of spice on it which kicks the flavor. Ribs are meaty as well. * HOT LINKS $7 EA: smoked pork sausage. It is a okay item for me. It's a bit too crumbly and dry for me. * THE FRIED CHICKEN $7 PER PIECE: "Buttermilk marinated boneless leg, breaded in cornmeal batter with country gravy. " The batter of the chicken is on the thick side but super crunchy. It's good that they pair with the gravy which gives the moisture to the meat. I like the gravy and I even use it to dip the sausage.. * side dishes - SMALL $4 : we choose serrano cheese spinach and corn breads for our sides and I think they are great. I love the sweet and savory corn breads that balanced out the heavy meaty meal. If you happened to be around Main St. Give Slim's Bbq a try. Honestly had an amazing experience here! Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made the perfect recommendations for our party of 5. We had the Burrito, Burger and 2 pulled pork sandwiches. The pulled pork I had was the best one I've ever had, tender n tasty meat and the coleslaw was awesome. I feel somewhat reluctant to even write a review of this place because it's such a hidden gem and I don't want to let the secret out. Slim's occupies the space that was once Rumpus Room and even before that, the Foundation. The atmosphere is cozy-divey-cool, with lots of tchotchkes and irony and warm wood everywhere. The bartender was super charming. The dippin' shrimp were very fresh and came with a zippy hot mustard sauce that we couldn't get enough of. We ordered pork butt and hot links as our main. To me, the pork butt really stood out. It was the most tender pulled pork with just the right amount of kicky jalapenos and acidic red onion accenting it. My spouse loved the hot links, which were very peppery, although for me they were a bit crumbly. The only thing that that we didn't quite love was the mac and cheese, which felt a little overcooked and starchy. It wasn't bed, just not on the level of the pork butt, and not the best mac and cheese I've ever had. For $4 for a small side, though, it's hard to really complain about anything. I did not get one on my first visit because it was a work night, but I have also flagged that this is a place you can get a bulldog (the beverage) and I'm looking forward to coming back for brisket and a bulldog on a Friday or Saturday (the days brisket is available). read more

Have been comming here for two years and all was well and amazing . lately they have taken on a more careless approach to service. Today after ordering the chili " all beef" hot dog, order was forgotten and when it came after eating half started to realize from my allergy they served me a veggie dog which was stated this could be requested whI h I did not due to my soy allergy . I understand the need for vegan options but disregarding my order for all meat and just giving what they thought I wasn't going to notice , was a dangerous take and server said it was a veggie dog always, which in the menu does dtate that default is all beef , this cause a allergic reaction and luckily I had my medication ....For a BBQ joint not a good experience read more

Just gross. We only went once but thats all it took. The server looked annoyed to have to do anything, but waved us to sit at a table. When we sat down we noticed the table was dirty. Hadn't even been wiped down yet, dirty napkins still sitting there (this is in Covid times). She half heartedly apologized/laughed it off. I got up to go wash my hands and ran into the cook and one kitchen staff coming out of the kitchen, not wearing masks. If you want legit, tender, Smokey Brisket, this is your place. They have the BEST Brisket in the city, hands down. Ever since Dixies closed, I looked high and low for anything that could come close to their amazing brisket. I've tried many places, and everything was second, third and fourth place compared to Dixies. When I took my first bite of Brisket at Slims, my aura changed from blue to unicorn colours. It awakened something inside of me that had been lost in a disappointing brisket void. I said, this is the best brisket I've had since Dixies. Come to find out, the kitchen staff are the same people from Dixies and they smoke their meat at the old location! Huzzah! I am so thrilled to have this amazing food back in my life the way it should be tasted. Please, if you like brisket, no where else in the city can even come close to theirs! It's juicy, it's tender, it's Smokey, it's perfect. I've tried brisket everywhere in the city and surrounding cities. This one is THE ONE! We also got tots, Mac and cheese, both perfectly seasoned and the fried chicken sandwich, I don't what they put on that bird, but it was very flavourful and really packed a punch of yum.
