Was in Stevenston Village and this was the perfect place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Ordered the Cod Fish and Korean Fried Chicken tacos which both tasted great. Service was awesome. The guy at the bar is a rad guy who made some conversation with us and our server was attentive and speedy.

Healthy portions of smoked awesomeness! Staff is inviting and the drinks are great! Feels welcoming and fun!

The sides were ok. The coleslaw is a bit bitter. I recommend the ribs and brisket. There are plenty of seats

Top- pork ribs, creamed corn and corn bread Button: beef ribs, yam fries and hush puppies

Came in on a Sunday night with a deep craving for American-style bbq. We got the Dino (beef) ribs and a 1/2 order of the pork ribs, each coming with 2 sides. Pork ribs were flavourful and tender but the beef ribs I will say were quite dry and I personally found an overwhelming vinegar flavour on them- not my favourite. Sides were okay. We decided to risk it for the side of the day, which were hush puppies. They weren't my personal favourite as the cornmeal tasted a little stale to me, but my partner enjoyed this side. Corn bread was quite dry and crumbly which was only helped slightly by the side of butter. The yam fries are what you expect them to be, comes with a side of chipotle mayo and lastly the creamed corn was probably what saved the meal. We ordered a pina colada (not pictured) to hold us off while we waited for the food. Again, pretty mid. Flavourful but definitely too sweet. Service was nice and there were frequent check in's. cleansing wipes and several napkins are provided at the beginning of the meal to help with the mess.

Mother's Day in Steveston could have been the typical eggs Benedict but we decided to check out Hog Shack for BBQ. Plus they had plenty of patio space so we had an instant table outside. Having lived in Texas with high expectations for southern style BBQ, we craved the brisket and Dino ribs. It did not disappoint. Flintstone-worthy beef ribs (one could have tilted the car) was massive. Beautiful crust, not fatty, very lean. Took 3 people to try to gnaw it down. 2.5 strips of brisket was a tad small considering the plate was touted as the Caveman. Nice cornbread muffin and crispy hand cut fries rounded out the meal shared with 3 people. It was the perfect amount. Oh and we had the catfish bites for an appetizer. Perfect weather and atmosphere for Mother's Day.

I have been looking for a good place for smoked meats within Vancouver area since the summer. This spot was always featured in all my research so I decided to try it first since it s not far from where I live. The staff there were friendly and helpful. I ordred a 1/2 lb of beef brisket and I got it super fast : The slices of meat were thicker than I expected( usually I prefer thinner piece of brisket) , not much juicy and full of bbq sauce which I was expecting to be on the side. Overall I would say it was ok (6/10) but not what I was looking for , so I think I would be trying other places until one of them meets my requirements .

American Style BBQ in Canada done right. Everything ive ordered over the years from this place has been excellent. If you love poutine I recommend the Smothered Gems it's my favourite dish on the menu. 11/10

Drool worthy photo and review coming right at you! During the past weekend hog shack had their special dishes. Let's just say this week I had to go try it and I've never gotten into my car so quickly before. * Birria de res ($19.95) ~ oh my gosh these are game changer! If you ever see them post that they have it here for their special... RUN! Because it was so worth it! Comes with 3 loaded birria tacos and ultra delicious and rich consommé. The rice pairing was fantastic and also outstanding with the rich sauce base! I mean it was so flavourful you can definitely taste the flavours and spices used in the dish. The taco itself was loaded with meat and cheese! The rice was flavourful on its own but with the consommé it was chefs kiss! I've never craved such a dish so badly before. Please make this a regular menu item . * Bbq bacon cheese burger ($17.89), also added Caesar salad for side ($1.50) ~ the burger is making me speechless. It was huge! Now this is what I call a burger! Loads and loads of cheese and that meat was ultra tender and juicy. Nice cuts of bacon too! * Combo 5 ($25.95) ~ ribs and chicken lovers this is your dish! The chicken was ultra tender and juicy not to mention flavourful! The ribs, are on a whole new level. Smothered in the Smokey bbq sauce and the bones slide right off! * 10/10 ~ the birria taco was the fam favourite! It was so flavourful and delicious. Totally worth the mess! 100% recommend trying it here. * 8/10 ~ we had a ton of food, portions were great too! Leftovers from the combo 5! Total bill before tip: $67.68 * 10/10 ~ good social distanced, info gathered, hand sanitizer on tables, digital menus.

Big Johnson plate with yam fries and cornbread
Guerric H.

I do have a soft spot for Southern BBQ every now and then, and while I can't speak to the place's authenticity, I can say what I had here really hit the spot! The catfish bites are deep fried in a cornmeal batter, which adds a nice texture to them, and my Apple Jack cocktail was both sweet and quite affordably compared to regular Vancouver prices. But the star was really the main mean. I split a Big Johnson plate with a friend, and it easily feeds two despite not being sold as a two-person meal. All the meats were delicious and slathered in richly flavoured BBQ sauces, from the giant ribs to the tender brisket and rich pulled pork. I got the cornbread side, which was delicious (maybe a tiny bit sweeter than I like) and paired extremely well with the meat, and the yam fries were pretty good as well! I'd love to come back and try another plate and more of the sides - the fact that you get two sides even with a regular main is great. This is one of those places where simple, unpretentious food is really given the chance to stand on its own and just be delicious. They give you little wetwipes that say "Don't be afraid to make a mess", and I think that encapsulates the fun about this kind of place and food - it's messy, tasty, basic, hearty food that leaves you full and satisfied.

Brightly lit interior.

BBQ in the heart of Steveston Village worth the drive. The food here rarely disappoints, although it can get expensive if you want to be adventurous. Pulled pork, baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and brisket are some of their popular offerings. You can buy items a la carte, but you can also opt for combinations. Side dishes can be mixed and matched with combos or ordered separately. Don't expect mercy if you're a vegan or vegetarian. Expect to pay $30-50 to feed two people. There's no way to spend less than $30 because entry-level burger and sandwich platters run about $15. Food comes out quickly, suggesting that meats are being smoked all daylong. Some cuts of meat (the crispy ends) are subject to availability. Some nights are extremely busy, so reservations are highly recommended.

I arrived early, but, had no idea where they were located. I strolled through the food court and couldn't find them. After asking for directions, I was pointed in the right direction until I saw the line or queue as they say in Vancouver. They are both a meat market and a Cantonese BBQ shop. It is not a restaurant, though there are tables and chairs outside by the food court. Service was typical Cantonese. Order, pay, and get out. We ordered a roast pork rice and a roast duck rice. The portion size was larger than what I can get in the 626. It seemed like a good value for the price. It wasn't cheap. Both the roast pork and roast duck were flavorful. It was a good experience coming here and trying them out.

Roast Pork -- thin, perfectly crispy skin; well seasoned and not overly salty BBQ Pork (Char Siu) -- moist, tender, freshly sliced; lean with just the right touch of sweetness Roast Duck -- juicy with a crisp skin, carved fresh off the roast Service is quick and friendly. We ordered the half roast pork & half duck with rice, and the half roast pork & half BBQ pork with rice -- both excellent choices. The savory juices from the meats blend beautifully with the plain white rice, creating a simple but deeply satisfying bite. We asked a staff, and sadly I did not get the birthday person gets to eat free choice. There's a 2-HOUR eating limit, otherwise there's a cost charge for any leftovers. Food-wise, I really liked the differently priced tiers with each tier offering an amazing variety of options. My 3 friends and I agreed on *DELUXE TIER* for $39.85 per person, and it includes all of the food options below its tier which is classic tier for $28.85. All of the beef belly choices had amazing flavour when grilled over charcoal stove, and honestly it was probably my most favourite item on the menu. The chicken wings were on the smaller side but it still packs great flavour somehow. And the 'cold noodle with soup' had excellent flavour as well but it's a hefty bowl so it's better to save your stomach space for just meat only instead of carbs. The downside of my experience is the open bar which you can find in the middle of the restaurant. Its options was pretty lackluster and after circling the options at the open bar twice, I ended up NOT grabbing anything for the counter. Maybe they will change it up in the future, but at the present time I was a customer there, I did not like any of the choices on the open bar. Picture will be attached with caption. Overall, would I come back to Jin Tan Grill House? Yes. I would like to try their top tier called *SUPREME* for $68.85. For the choices supreme tier offers, I hope it's worth it in my future visit. For now, the *Deluxe* tier option was excellent but I might consider just coming here alone or with 1 or 2 friends next time because it is pretty expensive. Definitely recommended.

If there's one area for improvement, it would be the food temperature. Nothing came out piping hot, which left me wondering if the dishes had been sitting out for a bit -- or perhaps the restaurant just doesn't see as much volume during off-peak hours. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but hotter plates would elevate the experience. Pricing was very reasonable, especially with their ongoing specials, making it an easy choice for a casual meal that delivers on flavor and value. We intended on getting the à la carte menu at first but realized that based on how many big eaters we had, it was more bang for our buck with the all you can eat menu. We chose the lowest tier of all you can eat and there were some people who preferred seafood; even if you upgraded to the highest tier the selection in our opinion, didn't get drastically better that it was "worth it". We had a party of six and was seated at a long table with a divider. When we got to our seat, the staff had placed the divider at exactly the table edges connecting the two stove but it was so squishy and uncomfortable for 6 people that we had to move the divider over a little. There's a time limit for all you can eat however with one stove and us not knowing that the vegetables came raw and in full foiled packages, it took a long time to grill anything. Our waitress came over many many times to remind us about the time limit and even then... we were well over our time limit even though we only put in two rounds of food. One stove shared between six people was awful. It's not like our stove could cook any faster even if the waitress rushed us. We were even ending the meal with s'mores and the waitress couldn't wait any longer and brought over the bill. We had to put down our s'mores stick to pay the bill so she could leave us alone to finish the meal... the restaurant was not busy, there were plenty of empty tables and there was no one waiting in the lobby. Did not appreciate the service here. Overall, food was greasy and not memorable (as I just tried a different grilled meat spot a few days prior). The portions were weird. Most of the dishes were severely under portioned so we made sure to up our portions for round two. Our time was up before we could even put in our final round three order. The staff also didn't respect some of the items. We put in ice cream on the first order as people wanted to use it as a grease palate cleanser and it was only when we followed up with the waitress did they say "oh we thought it should be served at the end of the meal instead since it's a dessert". Perhaps following the orders of what customers mark off would help with better customer service....

There are different tiers for the AYCE, we just selected the Classic ($36.99/person, Mon-Thur all day; Fri-Sat 11am-4pm). For the hot pot, we just go up to the open refrigeration and select our meats and vegetables, and place in the metal pot. We bring the metal pot to the bar/front counter and select a choice of soup. I tried the bone broth (which was just ok) and the tom yum (which was good). The hot pot would be delivered to our table when done. Note, for those we don't want the BBQ meats, they do have a "Magic Pot Special" (Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm) for $25.99/person. For the BBQ meats, we select from our choices and was brought to our table cooked and placed on the hot plate to keep warm. The chicken and beef were excellent and not dry. Salads and other cooked food at the front counter also included. There is free parking out front. The décor is from the old ACB restaurant which brought fond memories from 30 years ago! I was told that the AYCE feature is recent (as of the time of writing) for this chain. Can't comment on the past, but I feel I walked out of there a better person. But first things first. Parking is available around the building, but only in certain sections of the surrounding lot. Pay careful attention to the diagram by the front door. The place has a funky interior, with colourful LED signs. Makes for a bit of a nightclub feel. Staff were friendly and helpful, which was nice, as it was my 1st time here. As of the time of writing, I think they have fully switched to AYCE now. There is the hot pot only option, and a skewer upgrade. Get the skewer upgrade. The cows and lambs will thank you. Just from this alone, it is very easy to eat one's money's worth when compared to the competition. The AYCE includes a drink of choice, as well as a small ice cream at the end. The hot pot section is very decent. Grab a pot and tongs, and fill up the pot with goodies. Pick a soup base, and they cook it for you and bring it to your table. I really like how the pots are rather shallow, so that there isn't too much (liquid) soup. I tried several flavours and everything was good. The skewers though. Oh wow. I don't know how many animals my buddy and I burned through. We were double fisting and tearing them animals to shreds. Talk about pure bliss. Everything was fresh and delicious. Honestly if I had to pick a last meal, this place would definitely be a candidate. With great reverence, I highly recommend.
