Another review described potato noodles to have the texture of tapioca pearls/boba and it would be a spot on description. It has a very chewy texture that is unique to this type of noodle that I was really vying for. The menu at the stall is almost entirely in Chinese besides the potato noodles so it can be hard to be sure what you're ordering. The veggies included were mostly some beansprouts and spinach; you can also pick the spicy level. There's a little condiment tray off to the side of the ordering area that you can use to customize your bowl a little but you don't get a small bowl for dipping or any plastic side plate/bowls unless you pay .25 cents. The portions were good; I think it would be good to get a bowl of noodles here and maybe an appetizer-like dish from another stall like the panfried/steamed soup dumplings or a rice roll for two people. I actually really enjoyed the burger; there was a good mix of lean and fatty pieces of meat. The outside was toasted well while the inside was still soft. It wasn't dripping in sauce so the bun stayed nice and solid even after it cooled down and was still tasty. The bites of green pepper peppered throughout the bun added a really nice crunchy contrast to the meat. I understand that in Chinese culture there is not much hospitality for food but the interactions did feel callous so I'm hesitant to go back given the plethora of other stalls in the food court. read more

The main reason I chose 99 BBQ of all the places in the food court is how busy it was! They did not disappoint. Choose the potato noodle only if you're adventurous, not if you want something classic. THE WAIT: There was a constant stream of people coming up to order, though there was never a significant line. (This was the Monday before Christmas at lunchtime.) They take your order quickly. They say it'll be 10 minutes but it was more like five. THE COST: $10 for one bowl of noodles. FYI they charge you an extra $5 as a deposit for the bowl. Chinese "BBQ" place in the Crystal Mall parking lot. Parking is available underneath the mall. Maybe I'm walking in with the wrong mindset, but the food here isn't exactly "BBQ". This seems to be closer to soup and noodles, though several dishes definitely don't fit the category. Staff were friendly and helpful. No complaints. There is a ghetto tray of condiments. In this tray there is a giant unhygenic-looking bowl of house chili sauce. I could feel the tears of joy welling up. Be sure to take some. I tried the oyster tin foil mushrooms and rice. This dish is definitely on the pricey side, but it delivers. Huge portion. The soup had quite a bit of kick, even before adding any chili sauce. The oysters are baby sized, but I didn't feel they cheaped out. There were generous portions of enoki mushrooms and other bits such as green onions. This dish is seriously like crack. Just thinking about this dish is making me drool. I probably should try some of the other dishes next time, but this one has my heart and my stomach. Recommended. read more

Service was bad. Especially the chef. When I found a fly in my noodle soup. This chef won't make me a new dish and he kept on screaming and telling me something in mandarin. While I walked away he kept on talking something behind my back. The customer heard him and he yell at the chef that he will never be his customer again because the way he treated me and he also have witness the entire scene. Just know that this place has no made up, funny, english name for their business, and luckily someone posted a picture here for me to even do a review of the joint. Another BBQ place to try to take away business, or add to the food court diversity of Crystal Mall. They have lamb skewers, like some other stall that has been highly recommended, and they have other meat skewers ranging from chicken, beef, vegetables etc. They also have other combo like sets on the menu that I saw. The last time I was here with my partner, we ordered a beef and lamb skewer, and oddly enough the beef taste like lamb, and the lamb taste like pork. They were good, but compared to that other place, not as flavourful. The price is pretty good, at $1.25 a skewer, is another cheap bargain in this food court. Just another solid addition to Crystal Mall, and it seems they have opened up another stall downstairs selling cold food. read more

This place sells skewers like the other few reviewers had mentioned. The price is pretty decent, but the only bad thing was when I ate the lamb skewer, it kind of tasted like pork or beef or whatever, so I wasn't even sure what I was eating.... I mean, I'm sure it was meat, and it was relatively okay, but when it came down to it, it tasted like a type of mysterious unguessable meat. Also on the side, I had what looks like green been skewer or something. It tasted okay but not enough flavor was in the damn thing. Based on what I had, their food wasn't really bad, but the bad news was that they added way too much of this spice on it and it had gotten kinda spicy. This place is amazing. I always come here for BBQ skewers when I am visiting Crystal Mall. The beef and chicken are my favourites. The minimum order is two of the same type of skewer but that's never a problem for me. The seasoning of cumin in the meats makes these extra special. I've giving this 3 stars given how nice the owners are, but I didn't particularly enjoy the food. There's a note saying that they've recently lost a lot of stone pots, so when we order, we have to pay a $5 deposit on the pot, which we get back when we return it after our meal. I didn't mind it so much and can understand why they do this. The wait took a while but it wasn't too bad, given it was busy dinner hour. The portion was descent for a fast food joint, but I found the food to be only meh. It was spicy but it lacked depth, what was also unimpressive was how oily and salty it was. I guess that is due to the type of cuisine but a slightly healthier version would have been my type. I should try their skewers and see if I change my mind. read more

If you're looking for expired veges and a bad deal, this is the place... I ordered 3 skewers consisting of corn, chicken and lamb. What came out was a 2 bite chicken skewer , lamb skewer and an expired disgusting piece of corn! I took the piece of corn back to the booth and informed the owner/chef there was something wrong with the corn. Instead of asking what the problem was, he said to me? Isnt this corn? If this is corn, then there shouldnt be a problem. I then explained to him the corn has gone bad. But he interuoted me saying that this is chinese corn not Canadian corn, thus why i say its expired. Me being grown in china know that chinese corn is no much difference from canadian corn and definetly not like this. Knowing that he cannot fool me, he said to me, "yeah thats right, thats how our corns are, its the ones i would buy and the way i would cook it, so you gotta deal with it. " Hearing that i know there will be no longer room for negotiation, hence i told him, since this is ur style, i do not want it anymore, and left the corn at his counter.
