    skewers!
    Em G.

Chinese meat skewers have entered the Vancouver food scene for the last couple of years. Its only been recently that I've finally experienced it for myself and I am delighted. The menu is on a QR code that is one each table, and you order through that. After a few verbal reviews from family who've been here before, this is what we ordered: Steamed clams with Sake $13.69 Enoki Mushroom & Beef Hot Pot $16.79 Double Cooked Pork Slice $24.14 Cucumber with Garlic $9.44 Saute Cabbage with Chili Beef Skewers $2.30 each Chicken Skewers $2.30 each Pork Belly Skewers $2.30 each Deep Fried Buns So many good things happening here. Everything is cooked in the back kitchen and then kept warm at your table with either sternos or tealights. Skewers are priced as per piece and there is a 2-5 piece minimum order. Some of the best items we ate were the Steamed Clams with Sake, Beef Skewers, Cucumber with Garlic and the Saute Cabbage with Chili. The restaurant is on the smaller side with about 12 -16 tables. Its a known for being a late night snack and drinking spot, so it does fill fast. They also have a small parking lot for them but it also fills up fast. Its good that they the Burquitlam Skytrain Station is across the street. If your looking to expand your food horizons then come and try Nice Meating You. They have something for everyone. Whether its skewers, noodles, soups or fried food, go with your friends and have a good time.

This was so good!!! I love that there's extra seasoning and spice on the side so you can add more if you like I gotta learn how to make the seasoning because it's seriously addicting! I definitely recommend the lamb when you come here it was so good. We ordered a variety of meats like pig skin, pig intestine (don't yuck my yum try it before you make an opinion!), pork, lamb, beef, squid, and probably more The meats were juicy and filling. But be careful because the bill can rack up fast! the skewers are perfect with a side of rice too!

I always enjoyed Chinese style BBQ. I tried several places in Lower mainland. This place is one of my favorites, and they offer really tasty Chinese-style BBQ. What I ordered: Popcorn Chicken A little different from other restaurants' popcorn chicken, the batter was thick and soft. I prefer a more crispy and thinner batter. This dish was just okay. Beef tongue A little bit dry today, but I believe it's just an exception. Generally, the beef tongue at this place is soft-chewy and tastes really good. Pork The pork's sauce was similar to teriyaki flavor, and the meat itself was very juicy and tasted really good. It was the highlight of dinner. Lamb The lamb skewer was very tasty, as usual. This item is a must-order. Overall, I enjoyed this place as usual. The prices are reasonable, and it's my go-to casual spot.

So many skewers! Tasty morsels of meat, organs & corn on sticks. This is a favorite skewers place of mine, albeit a bit far from home for myself. Personally, I'd pass on the corn skewers as they were quite pricy & tasted a bit like mochi corn which was not the taste profile I was wanting or expecting. You will be better off ordering one of their meat skewers. Though I can't really say ordering "hot" or "spicy" made a difference. Maybe they expected you to use the side spice to flavor. This place gets extremely busy but be willing to wait and it'll be worth it. They did lose a star as they were not consistent with timing of skewers. Some took quite a while to arrive & they also didn't have diet cola or sugar free drink options but maybe that won't deter you. You may need to find elsewhere to park if the lot is full. Felt the ratio of parking to seating in restaurant didn't balance out. Quite spacious inside though.

Stumbled past this hidden gem during sunday funday with the family. This place was packed when we arrived which was around 630 i believe. Wait time wasn't too long though to get a physical table but you might need to remind your server a few times for an extra pitcher of water. But otherwise service is great and their english is good too. The menu selection wasn't too shabby and prices are relatively affordable and standard for a skewer place. My favourites would have to be beef tendon/ chicken skin/ chicken gizzard as well as the sweet bbq pork. The corn kernels were a bit too chewy for my liking and didn't seem worth it ‍ My mom suggested to order the lamb fried rice and boy was that a crowd pleaser! If i wasn't so full i would have ordered another to go! We asked for minimum spice and it was still very delicious! The ambience was lively, they even had an outdoor waiting area where you can sit at tables instead of stand. But i pre warn you the parking is a bit complicated. Very crammed and don't make the mistake we did and drive around to the back because there's a huge dip into the ground so if you don't notice you could damage your car. They give you 10% off if you pay cash by the way. Otherwise they take card :)

Short answer - It's a 5! The lamb fried rice was so delicious - the balance of flavor was on point - though if my party was more into spice , I would of asked to spice this up for even more kick! Skewers were fairly priced for the most part - seasoning was delicious - the pieces of meat was sized fairly , fresh and hot ! I loved the Intestine , gizzards, hearts and pork belly ! - The one skewer that was kind of a disappointing was the corn kernels - those didn't really have much taste - and the price didn't make sense - I wish this place was closer - as it could easily compete to be the best skewers in my heart. Parking here sucks though - they have a parking lot - however I don't think there is anywhere close to enough spots for both customers and there workers - so you will want to plan ahead as you might need to park further away.

Second time ordering delivery, we got the lamb skewers, bite sized fried chicken, and pork butt skewers this time. Taste 0.5/1 Overly seasoned imo, but goes well with rice or tortilla, wife also liked it either way Value 1/1 Both times order came different, maybe they had no pork butt or something...1st time ordered the pork butt skewers x4 & lamb kidney skewers 2x2 and received regular pork skewers x10 & lamb kidney x7, which was more so no complaints This time we ordered crispy chicken x2, pork butt x2 & lamb skewer 2x5 and received crispy chicken x4, regular pork skewer x10 & lamb skewer x20, which was also more than what we ordered Speed 1/1 Order was received on time Presentation 1/1 Delivered well, presentation on point, always appreciate being able to eat with eyes first Overall/Revisit 0.5/1 Not something we crave often, and feels kind of unhealthy Above and beyond? 0/+1

A girl friend and I haven't caught up in awhile and decided to meet in the Burquitlam area to try this joint out. It has a small free parking lot but I managed to snag the last spot at 5:40pm on a Thursday rainy evening. I can't imagine what the parking situation is like on the weekend. My friend, who arrived 15 minutes after me, ended up parking in the next door McDonald's parking lot. As soon as I walked in, there was a strong fried smell. Didn't notice any ventilation fans but got seated fairly quickly. There were no physical menus offered - just a QR code on the table. First off, the menu is EXTENSIVE. For indecisive people, it might be a nightmare to navigate especially as there are no descriptions or photos of any of the menu items. My friend and I ordered a bunch of skewers and set all of them to be "mild spicy" even though we can take some heat. Am glad that we ordered mild as quite a few of the skewers had a kick to them. After a few skewers in, they basically all tasted the same - full of cumin. It was only the texture of the meats that differed. The cold cucumber salad was really nice and helped cut all the cumin from the meats - it was cold, refreshing, garlicky, and a good portion. The baked eggplant was also of a good size (half a giant eggplant) topped with lots of fried garlic on top. The enoki mushroom was served in a tinfoil pan that came with thin glass noodles in a thickened sauce. This was a bit unexpected but we really enjoyed it. For carbs, we ordered a hot and sour noodles that was served in a tinfoil bowl. The soup wasn't sour enough, more hot than anything. It was served with thick glass noodles. I usually love thick glass noodles but it serve in a soup didn't make sense so this was a bit of a miss for us. All the dishes plus two drinks (Grapefruit juice and plum juice) came out to be $110 including tax but before tip. We did leave with a little bit of leftovers but nothing significant. Apparently, there is a discount if you pay with cash but the server never mentioned this and just asked if we were paying with cash or card. Steady stream of take outs throughout the evening and when my friend and I left close to 10pm, there were still some people coming in to dine. Cute joint for BBQ skewers with friends but I was slightly disappointed with how all the meats tasted the same. Though we did get quite a fair bit of skewers, it was a bit of a pricey meal for two girls.

Looks like Chairman Mao has opened a quaint little skewer shop across from Burquitlam Station. Parking is available in the lot next to the building. The interior is nice and modern. The little guy on the logo sure looks happy. I would be too if I had that many skewers on the grill. Staff were friendly and helpful. As of the time of writing, some skewers have to be ordered in batches of 2 but mostly in batches of 5. I tried the lamb skewers. They are tasty, but aren't the largest. In other words, this place can get expensive real quick. I'd recommend coming by for a snack instead of trying to get a full meal. Lastly, my friends and I wept while eating these things. The grilled lamb chunks were delicious, and the skewers were sprinkled with cumin. Chairman Mao would be proud.

This is one of the better Chinese BBQ establishments in Vancouver. However, I'm not sure how long their quality is going to last since many of the other BBQ places have seen significant decline in quality over time. Parking could be notoriously difficult to find unless you are willing to park in the sketchy back alleys. The inside is brightly lit and welcoming. However, the music is rather loud, making conversations difficult. We tried many of their meat skewers, which were mostly good. The only thing we didn't like were the cow throats. Everything else were flavorful, juicy, and tender. My only two issues were that 1) many of the skewers have a minimum order requirement of 5, and 2) their tap water tasted like diluted bleach. The service was efficient and fast.

Fermented rice wine dessert soup with beatened eggs

This place is busy for a reason. Heard good reviews and gotta try it. Weekend dinner time was packed until past 8pm. My friend and I waited for over half an hour before seated. The staff was very friendly. Service was great! The flavour was authentic Chong Qing. Cumin was in most of the dishes which adds a layer that goes well with spiciness. Most dishes are spicy as it is the basic flavour of Chong Qing cuisine. You can choose the level of spiciness. For the first time, we ordered mostly the least spicy, except for the grilled eggplant. Next time I'll go for medium and high for sure. - Beef skewers (min of 5) - Lamb skewers (min of 5) - Garlic chicken wings (not spicy) (min of 2) - Crazy chicken wings (min of 2) - Grilled eggplant - Grilled squid (very tender) - Baby cabbage and vermicelli in tinfoil container - Fermented rice wine dessert soup with beatened eggs The beef and lamb skewers were very flavourful. None of the dishes was over seasoned. The meat was crispy on the outside and delicious on the inside. Having all dishes spicy, the garlic chicken wings were relatively underwhelming, but they were cooked perfect. The tinfoil container collection has a series of options such as baby cabbage, enoki mushroom, cheese and corn, and duck blood, etc. if you like something soupy. The vermicelli was cooked al dente, not too soggy. The grilled eggplant was garlicky yet not too spicy even though we ordered high spicy. The grilled squid was very tender. It was perfectly grilled with some charcoal flavour in this sweet and spicy sauce. By the time we ordered dessert, they only had 2 dessert soup options left. The other 2 options that I originally wanted to try out were sold out unfortunately. The fermented rice wine dessert soup with beatened eggs was also a great choice. The wine flavour and sweetness were soothing which tamed down all the spiciness in the whole meal. I loved how silky it was with some texture from the beatened eggs. There are other dishes we wanna try next time. Portion wise it would be perfect for a group of minimum of 3. That way you can try more varieties. The parking space by the store gets full very quickly. Carpooling would be easier.

Such a great spot for date, as we did or a cool place to hang with friends. We arrived around 9 and it was busy but had a table to seat us right away. We started with soju which the had a great selection!!! They have the QR code digital menu where you can order from your table. If you love lamb this is your place to try. We ordered lamb fried rice, soooooo good! For skewers we had lamb, thousand layer tofu and abalone. You can choose your spice level with mild, spicy and extra spicy . We got the spiciest of course. I also ordered extra hot sauce and too by surprise it was the yummiest chili oil. We also had the blended cold noodle, very refreshing. We will back soon!!!

It's small but has quite many seats, the lady is very friendly. She gave me a photo album to order from which is so fun and I have never seen anything like this before and every restaurant should 10000000% do the same. I ordered the 酸辣肥肠粉 pork intestine sour spicy noodle(added an egg) and potato shreds cold stir凉拌土豆丝 Ok I have to to say, the potato dish is THE BEST i have had in canada and it is a very very high compliment from me, since I order that whenever I can. It's soooo good and I ate the whole plate in a few mins. The pork intestine noodle is so so, I wish there are more pork intestine, I had 4-5 pieces and they r quite small, the egg tho, is sooooo good, it's worth it to add one to the noodle. They also add a ton of peanuts so if u have allergies u need to tell them, they wont ask u. She also gave me a small ice jelly dessert for free in the end, it tastes so good??!!! I am so full at this point otherwise I would ask if I can eat a full portion one lol Overall I will come back!

This place is tiny, as in it can seat about 20 people, and every table had people and had piping hot food on each. Both me and my friend needed to wait a few minutes till someone left, and when we got seated, they gave us their regular menu, and later on gave us a picture book.. and if you guessed it.... everything on their menu with a separate picture. My friend ordered his bowl of spicy pork chop glass noodles in soup, and I had a dry version of spicy noodles with pork. We also ordered their deep fried tofu, deep fried chicken, and a plate of spicy cucumber. Every dish was done just right, and what I mean by that is that every hot dish seemed to be made to order, and it was confirmed when we spoke to the lady there. The spicy cucumber dish came out, and you can tell they use fresh ingredients, the cucumber, although the chili oil used was spicy, due to the freshness of the cucumber, was sweet too. The deep fried tofu had a nice hard outer deep fried shell, and yet the inside was soft and really hot, the chicken took the longest, but this was worth waiting for, with the thin deep fried batter, I don't think I have ever had chicken this hot in temperature, and it was great. Both noodle dishes were huge, and I wondered how my friend ended up eating all of his, I had to take 1/3 of mine home as it was too much. We also ordered a plum drink and a hawthorne drink and at the end was served complimentary jelly as dessert. This was a great meal and if you are in the area, I would recommend you try this place out.

Unfortunately, we didn't fare so well with the rest of our meal. I've always wanted to try the Dan-Dan Noodles and I even opted for the Blade-Sheared Noodles. The noodles were overdone and so soft and slimy. It also didn't help that the extremely oily peanut sauce tasted like melted store-bought peanut butter with a smattering of minced pork. It wasn't even spicy as described. We also ordered the ironically dry and plain Green Onion Beef with Black Pepper Sauce. Not sure if the sauce spilled or evaporated but the container was devoid of any liquid. If it wasn't for the wonderful baos, my revised rating would have been 2 stars. If we ever go back to Legend House, it's probably just for the dim sums otherwise I'll pass.

Hot and sour soup - price is awesome. $11 enough for at least 6 bowls. Souo base is missing a bit of flavor but it is jam packed with ingredients. Drunken chicken - it was ok. Little on the salty side. Shanghainese pan fried pork buns - these were probably the worst I've had. Not made in house and not properly pan fried. No juice, super dry, no fried bottom crust. Bean curd wrapped pork dim sum - surprisingly this came out last. At least 20 min has passed. This is a steamed dish but it came out with dried edges like it was sitting on a dry heater.
