I love the breakfasts at the Tomahawk. I don't get to go there as often as I would like so I make a glutton of myself and have pie and breakfast, not just pie for breakfast, either the Yukon special, or the salmon Benedict The service is good. And the ambience can't be beat, very unique.

Had meat loaf for the first time in a long while. Excellent with fresh Brussels and squash, mashed potatoes.

First time for meat loaf in a very long time. Fresh Brussels, squash and mashed pot. Excellent version which hit the spot. Couldn't finish it but that's just fine. Others who enjoy large portions will be happy

I hadn't been here in at least 7 years. What an improvement! Better and tastier food. We dined in for lunch & shared the Organic Turkey Clubhouse and organic Simon Baker burger with fries. Food: 5/5 - fantastic prices considering you're getting organic beef and turkey. They even offer a couple of lunch specials ranging from $15 to $20. They also offer dinner specials at $35 on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. If you like burgers, this is a must order. Food came out hot and was fresh. Good selection of breakfast and lunch items. Service: 5/5 - friendly server who came to our table a few times asking if we needed anything Ambiance: 5/5 - great ambiance. You feel like you're in a museum of beautiful Indigenous art & baskets. Nice vibe to the place. Lots of history here. Parking: 5/5 - parking in front of the building or on the street We'll be back for the dinner! Note: they are closed on Mondays. Hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: 9 am to 8 pm and Tues and Wednesday: 9 am - 4 pm.

Yes! Craving a Tomahawk burger to day while on the North Shore. Chief Simon Baker burger arrives fresh and sizzling with piping hot fries! Fresh mushrooms peeking out from the bun...can not wait to devour this wonder. Slow flow Heinz ketchup for the crispy fries. Serving local, organic food. Pure beef patty. Yes! A nostalgic visit to a local landmark. Classic burger and fries on a wet west coast afternoon. Located on Philip Avenue, just south of Marine Drive. Lots of parking.

Been here before once and decided to have brunch here after a hike in North Vancouver. Name of restaurant has barbecue on the end but didn't see any BBQ items on the menu. They are known for their "All Day" breakfast items and their food selection is geared towards more of a diner. I ordered the Benny's Classic made with their famous Yukon Bacon and my date had the Vegetarian Omelette. The portions were big but really nothing special. Our meals were served with diced hash browns and not your traditional pancake style ones that I had last time which I found tasted bland. The water they served with mint in a self serve bottle was nice and refreshing. We had two waitresses come by and checked on us with one just getting off her shift and made sure everything was ok. Signage shows the restaurant was established in 1926. Ambiance of the place had a First Nations theme with an assortment of totem poles and arts & crafts which you can purchase at the front of the restaurant. Once you enter the restaurant you are greeted with a cute little pond filled with an assortment of rubber duckies. Free parking is available to it's patrons in a large parking lot beside the restaurant.

This is the best breakfast in North Vancouver . An institution and requirement for any visit. Long live the Yukon breakfast!

This is a good place for brunch as they have big portions and the food is good. I had their Yukon style bacon and eggs dish. There was really a generous amount of hash brown under those bacons, egg and toasts. I finished it but my stomach was telling me that I shouldn't have as I was so sluggish after. The service is good and the waitress was very outgoing however we did have to wait for our drinks to arrive and water too.

A big hit and miss when it comes to the food here so exercise caution. I got the Steak and Mushroom Pie, mom got the Traditional Meat Loaf and dad got the Beef Dip Sandwich. First thing I noticed for my meal before ordering was that it came with mash potatoes so I was going to ask my server if instead of mash potatoes I could have extra veggies. Well I got as far as "..and could I sub out" and was immediately cut off and sternly told they don't allow any subs of any kind and do I still want mash potatoes or not. A little mad at her tone and upset she wouldn't even let me finish asking my question I told her just to leave the mashed potatoes off. Food came and I was missing my garlic bread as well. As for the food, the steak and mushroom pie was quite good. The pie top was flaky but extremely dry so it didn't really work if you tried to cut straight down and get a clean piece of the pie top plus a steak chunk in gravy. Your best bet would be to chop out up the top and give it a quick mix in the gravy first. The steak was cooked perfect but I was expecting a little more meat to be honest. The mushroom chunks were just about the same size as the chicken so when it's about 50/50 there wasn't all that much meat. The seasonal veggies were also a let down. I think it was just various kinds of squash and potato chunks so not any kind of variety. They were also covered in a seasoning that lessened the flavor and made them off putting after a few bites so I didn't eat much of those. The highlight of the meal was mom's meat loaf though. I don't have meat loaf often but this was incredibly good! It was moist and had a little more sautéed onions mixed in than I'm used to(which I loved) because it gave a little extra texture to each bite. And the tomato sauce on top was also delicious! But mom also had the same reservations about the seasoning on the veggies and she didn't eat much of hers either. Even if a restaurant doesn't allow substitutions, the least your server could do is let you finish asking before explaining they wouldn't be able to accommodate your request rather than rudely cutting you off. The steak and mushroom pie was good but nothing that blew my mind. The meatloaf was the winner of the night though and although I wouldn't eat here again, if you're thinking about eating here, I would suggest getting the meat loaf. I was going to say you might be better off asking if your seasonal veggies can come without that seasoning but I honestly don't know if they would allow that given my negative experience with this waiter.

I was really looking forward to having lunch with my Aunties here! I remember this place being much better than it is now... The service was poor, I realise it was lunch hour but we waited 40 minutes for food and the server forgot a few things. The meal was decent but I probably won't head back anytime soon. Sad, because it's an institution in North Van.

Heard a lot of good things about this place. It's been around forever and is pretty much an institution. Parking is available beside the building. The theme seems to be First Nations, with the totem poles outside and the rustic interior. The inside is a bit quirky and looks almost like a museum, with all the figurines. I especially liked the back wall with the paddles and sculptures. The place does feel quite dated (say 1960s), but I assume that's intentional. Staff were friendly. The place has a nice cozy feel. Even though the place is listed as a barbecue, the food selection is more like a diner. I had the organic roast beef dinner. Nice moist slabs of meat with plenty of gravy and potatoes. Delicious and filling. The other reviews seem to be hit and miss, but this place really is just an old fashioned diner serving low key comfort food. Nothing wrong with that.

BACON. Must eat Canadian Bacon in Canada Do you ever make a list of things you want to do when in a new city? I do. That was one of them. YUKON BREAKFAST That is the first thing listed on the menu so that's what I ordered. The 6 slices of Yukon bacon are thinly sliced maple smoked round strips of (Canadian) bacon, and they cook this very well. Yummmm. It wasn't crispy like American bacon, but more like a thick prosciutto, fried. It was a great addition to the eggs, hashbrown and thick cut toast/bread. I don't know why our "Canadian bacon" in the US looks more like round ham, because our version looks nothing like this. EGGS BENEDICT So this dish was also very good but my husband had to steal some of my bacon because he said he wanted to taste the bacon flavor without the sauce. Grrr. Get your own bacon. PANCAKES This was also a hit with the kids, but you can get pancakes anywhere. Get the bacon. NO RESERVATIONS We got to the restaurant at 8am when they opened so it wasn't crowded, but I've heard that later in the day the wait can get quite long, in part due to the exposure they got on triple D. LOCATION No visible sign from the road. If you are on Marine Drive, turn south on Phillip and it will be on your left, behind the Mercedes dealership. We drove past it three times before finding it. Look for the white totem poles that look like they are in front of a house. That's the entrance. The kids said one of the totem poles looks like it's saying "put your seatbelt on". There is a lot of unique aboriginal art to see here, so it's a cool place unlike anything we have back home. Thanks to fellow Hawaii yelper Dean H. for recommending this place! If you're in the area, go check out this place that is the oldest family-run eatery in Canada, serving people since 1926.

Not as good as the last time we came. Food was good overall but service fell short somewhat…read more Came here with family. We all ordered our own individual dishes. I just had an Original Gimbap and a Vege Gimbap for myself. It was a hot summer's day so I just didn't feel like ordering hot food. Everyone else ordered hot food though. My daughter has been getting into Tonkatsu at Japanese restaurants for awhile now. So when she saw Chicken Katsu on the menu here, she decided to give that a try. It was just OK for her. No comparison to any of the pork Tonkatsu dishes that she's been having at Japanese restaurants. She still ate it all up though and it was a huge portion. Other dishes on the table included Seafood Noodles, Pork Kimchi Stew, Soft Tofu Stew, Fried Chicken, and Kimchi Fried Rice. My one gripe would be that they took a super long time bringing out my daughter's Chicken Katsu. Everyone else had their food for quite awhile but she sat waiting and waiting for her Chicken Katsu. When we asked about it, they said it was coming soon. But that's what they always say when you ask about something that's taking a long time to come, right? Wondering if they actually completely forgot about it and then put in a rush order at the kitchen when we brought it up.

It's over fire on a hotplate/pan with the meat all around and kimchi in the middle. Perfect with rice or on it's on. The Japchae had plenty of beef and veggies. The potato noodles weren't overcooked and was a great consistency. The seafood tofu soup was favorful with clams and mussels. The raw beef was too frozen and needed to sit out longer. However, the flavor was still good, but I don't know if I'd order it again. The service was excellent and attentive.

Plenty of beef slices and enoki mushroom. I really have to recommend this dish. Also had a pile of their skewers. Taiwanese sausage, chicken gizzard, and 2 flavours of wings. The second time there were clams and lamb neck? The things that were the same: tomato egg, dumplings, steamed baos, chineze fried donut, and cold dishes like bean sprouts, smashed cucumbers, tea egg, tofu dessert. They also have hot soy milk for drinks. Their deep fried chinese donut has got to be the best I've ever had in my life. With the price of a pair of fried donut being over $6 these days, I get my fix here. Other things are standard, good but not outstanding. I really like having soy milk to drink instead of water. $18.88 is getting a little steep for a limited choice buffet with not too many meat choices. The crab/clam are a nice addition but if there are days without it, it wouldn't be worth. I would rate the food from this place higher than the similar chinese lunch box style place in richmond, K squared mansion.

A Gastronomic Awakening in Chinatown! You don't truly know…read moreuntil you go--and now that I've been, I'm haunted. As I write this, I am literally still dreaming of the Hong Kong Style BBQ Pork. It didn't just "eat" well; it dissolved into a decadent, sweet, fatty puddle of pure bliss. Walking in, the vibe is quintessential Chinatown: a bustling counter, a glass case showcasing glistening roasted treasures, and a seating area that trades fancy decor for pure, functional authenticity. We were clearly out of our element, probably looking like deer in headlights, but the staff met our confusion with warm smiles. Then came Bobby--the absolute heart and soul of this place. We walked in expecting the standard American-Chinese routine, but Bobby whisked us away to a cozy table and treated us like family. He started us off with a fragrant jasmine tea so naturally sweet and floral it didn't need a grain of sugar--perfect for a biting winter night. While we flirted with the Happy Hour menu, Bobby took the reins. You don't say no to a man with that much charisma and passion! On his expert recommendation, we pivoted to the Two-Meat Combo (BBQ Pork + Soy Chicken) with a side of their famous Roast Duck. The food arrived in a lightning-fast 10 minutes, but the real treat was Bobby's play-by-play on how each dish was prepared. You can taste the pride in every bite. The balance was masterclass: a symphony of sweet, salty, and umami. The meats were succulent, the skins were shattery-crisp, and the glazes were perfectly sticky. The undisputed heavyweight champion, however, was that Hong Kong BBQ Pork. Imagine the best "burnt ends" of your life, drenched in a caramelized, mouth-watering sauce that demands your full attention. We left Chinatown BBQ feeling more than just sated--we felt enlightened. If you're looking for a "one in a million" meal, let Bobby order for you. You won't regret it.

The blood sausage was wrapped with an intestine which is something I haven't had before. So this was unique. The organ meats were tender as well. Seafood pancake: on the pricier side but I can see why. It was served piping hot and super crisp. It had plenty of seafood and even glass noodles inside. Again, a unique touch.
