" A HIDDEN GEM BURSTING WITH FLAVORS" From the moment we walked in the SMELLS were enchanting songs to our nostrils. We were immediately greeted by staff and sat at a table to view the menu. Now let's be honest. We were tourist just leaving a cruise ship and looking for some good homecooked southern food. Although we reside in Texas, we are originally from New Orleans, La and my boyfriend is a CHEF. I am the foodie and he is the professional chef so restaurants don't stand a chance with our taste buds. Majid (OWNER) & Hamed are absolutely amazing. We were greeted and provided the warmest welcome with descriptions of the menu in detail. Being from the SOUTH were expecting that they were not aware of our cuisine. I was all the way wrong. 1st CHOICE - the Whole Slab of pork ribs tender and falling off of the bone, The flavor was absolutely amazing. It taste as great as MEMPHIS and TEXAS barbecue. I was impressed with the flavor and burst of seasonings that reminded me of a grill and smoked meat. There were 6 pieces with half of slab and 12 pieces with a whole slab. We literally could not even eat all of it. The plate also contained 4 ounces of barbecue sauce, 4oz of barbecue baked beans, 4 oz. of Cole slaw, full serving of coleslaw and a slice of cornbread ( I prefer homemade, hot and buttery flavor on top with serving). The beans were okay but I have had better. The barbecue sauce was not the best to me as well but the food was so good I was not bothered by it. 2nd CHOICE was slices of Moist brisket with charred ends that were so exhilarating it taste like it come straight from the smoker to my table. Every piece of meat was fresh as if they just cooked it for us. The same sides as above came with this plate also except we choose FRESH CAJUN FRIES in addition. They were flavorful and fresh. So we had two servings of each where as we did not need to share the sides. 3rd CHOICE, - Now I must admit, I was in between the macaroni and cheese and the jambalaya. Hamed was very informative in describing it in detail and convincing as it is one of the best sellers. The menu described it as SAUSAGE, SHRIMP AND PULLED CHICKEN, SERVED WITH GREENS AND CORNBREAD. Once it arrived to the table it had a very strange white sauce poured over the rice. This is not described on the menu and it is not a traditional sauce for jambalaya. MY ADVICE INFORM PATRONS OF THIS ADDITION TO THE DISH BECAUSE THIS IS NOT AN INGREDIENT IN CAJUN JAMBALAYA DOWN SOUTH or PLACE ON MENU IN DESCRIPTION. Also the menu describes as greens on plate, and greens is listed on the menu but once asked we were told this is green salad not collard greens. It literally was a small portion of lettuce with no dressing so this needs to be addressed as well. We called beforehand to ask for a reservation and they promised us a 20-25 minute wait time, so we decided to wait for a seat instead of choosing another restaurant that had seating right away. We walked around the area in the cold rainy evening and then went to restaurant 25 minute later to check on our reservation. The server didn't acknowledge us so we looked at the list and there was a table before us, so we went outside to wait. About 10 minutes later, when we saw a table leave, we went back inside, and the server said that "yep, you're next" but didn't give us an approximate wait time nor address that she gave us an untrue waiting time. In addition, the tables that were seated were done their meals and just talking at their tables with takeout boxes. It would have been a nice gesture if the server told the tables seated that there was a group that has been waiting for a long time. Since we had an early flight the next day and could not stay up too late, we ended up switching to a nearby restaurant after waiting for 50 minutes- DOUBLE the time that was advertised. We were seated right away in the nearby pizzeria and while we were eating, we received a call over an hour later that our seat was ready. I've been to this location a few times now and for most of the time it's been a wonderful experience. Staff are efficient, quick and friendly. The ambiance has a cool, moody aesthetic. There are many photographs of famous blues musicians. The music is usually blues, jazz, but the last time I visited it was country. My most recent visit the food was exceptional. Wow. Very disappointing. Didn't want a huge meal, or a sandwich, so I ordered the chili, a small side of coleslaw (very small at $6.) and an iced tea. Took a very long time to arrive even though it's got to be already prepared, and there was only one other table in the place. A rather small bowl for $18, but it was tasty. It was the inly thing that was edible. The coleslaw was easily the worst I've ever had- dry, cabbage looked old, and it tasted like nothing. The small square of corn bread tasted like a cheap mix with a faint chemical aftertaste, and the corn chips were poor quality as well. Waited a long time to get someone's attention for the bill, which was an outrageous $35. all in. The Hubbs is a smoker and approaches his BBQ meals as a challenge! First, we like the ambiance - this is a franchise location with a mom and pop feel. Lots of Memphis-blues legends on the wall. We appreciated the variety of offerings. We started with a bowl of Burgoo - a very meaty stew with chicken pork and beef. It came with a small side salad and cornbread. We found out the beef ribs wouldn't be ready for an hour, so we ordered the rib-ends and cornbread to hold us over. The rib ends were not my favorite, but they were decent. The bbq sauce on the side was good and peppery. The cornbread was moist and crumbly and served with a side of caramel sauce! Mind blown. We had a wonderful time talking with the Brazilian pit master, and Taiwanese cook! I love the diversity of cultures in this city! We ended with a single bone of beef rib and taste of their brisket. *Lunch Special Review* I noticed listed on their sandwich board a number of rice bowl lunch specials and was intrigued at what may be offered. I opted for the Teriyaki Beef Brisket Rice Bowl to satisfy my yen for their usually succulent brisket. Served in a Japanese themed wide bowl, it consisted of jambalaya rice, mixed greens and a fist sized serving of chopped brisket. The teriyaki sauce was served on the side. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this special. On the one hand, it is very basic and exactly what is described on the menu; on the other, a little bit more creativity in presentation would've been more appealing. One thing I did have a problem with was the cold teriyaki sauce. I took that as meant to be a 'dressing' for the bowl, so I drizzled it over the rice and salad and mixed. The combo was decent albiet a bit odd. There was an expectation that the sauce be warmed and mixed with the brisket, but I guess even the chef dare not mess with the perfectly smoked goodness of the beef. The verdict: a work in progress. It is a great option if you want some bbq without entering the usual meat coma and sweats, but there is also so much potential for improvement. Personally, if the brisket was served sliced instead of chopped, it wouldn't be as obvious that they are just creative in selling their off cuts (albiet still delicious) of brisket as a lunch special. read more

The meat on the ribs was easy to pull off , nice and tender. The BBQ sauce, which came on the side, was tangy and had just the right amount of sweet and savory tones. The pit beans were surprisingly smoky in flavor and had some nice chunks of the brisket meat in the mix. The coleslaw was not overly watery and was like any good coleslaw. The potato salad had egg in it and no much flavour but to me personally, I thought it had an off taste to it. Cornbread was a small square which I wish there was more of ! Instead of the potato salad, my partner got the fries as a side. Maybe a little salty but it had a nice seasoning to it. For $25 I think it was worth it, I came in hungry and left satisfied. A famous BBQ place in town, we always order their Signature Memphis Blue Feast (2-4 people). Even if there are just two of us, cause we can pack the left overs and have more yumminess the next day. $70 for a big platter split between 4 is very good value. The feast includes brisket, chicken, pulled pork, sausage, ribs, rib ends, corn bread, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, fries and bbq sauce. I think their most outstanding item is still the brisket. It's fatty, tender, juicy and the Smokey flavour is permeated through every bite. Personally I don't like corn bread or rib ends, but everything else is done well. The decor is also very quirky, definitely very welcoming. The staff are also friendly, but it's also mostly self serve. They have been consistent with their food as well, as I've been back multiple times, and I think that's why they have multiple locations. read more

Came here for an early dinner after the wait at Jinya was too long. Sadly won't be leaving this place a stellar review - the food tasted reheated and the flavours were quite off! We tried the seafood platter as well as a full rack of ribs. For whatever reason ribs were soooo dry yet still greasy, and definitely tasted reheated. By the end of the meal I felt pretty nauseated by the ribs, there was just too much fat and greaseAs for the seafood platter, the catfish tasted like fried paper. The outer batter was tough and the fish was under seasoned. The only thing we really enjoyed was the Cajun shrimp, though I wasn't sure why it came in a bowl of oil. This place was recommended by a good friend and top Santa Barbara, CA Yelper, Mark F, who happens to be from Texas. After he said that it is the best BBQ he's had this far North, how could I pass it up? I got the combo platter which lets you pick 2 meats and comes with slaw, baked beans, cornbread, and either fries or potato salad. I chose brisket, ribs, and potato salad. The brisket was the star of the meal. So moist, fatty, and fork tender. Great flavor too. The ribs were pretty good. Almost fall off the bone. The corn bread square was very small and served cold but I was clever enough to put it under the fatty and steaming brisket, so it warmed up and soaked up the goodness quickly and turned out delicious. Wish the piece would've been bigger than a 2 inch square. Note to the owners- cornmeal is super cheap. You can do better. The other 3 sides didn't have much flavor. After adding lots of Frank's Red Hot to the potato salad and the beans, they were great. Salt helped the slaw. The combo plate was $25, but I could only eat 1/3 of it so I do consider it a good deal. As I flew into Vancouver, I developed quite an appetite. This place was right across the street from the hotel, it had some resemblance to Baby Blues BBQ back in LA, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered their 1/2 chicken plate. Unlike the bbq place back home, they prepared this plate a bit differently. They cooked everything into one bowl: a mix of chicken, spicy rice, sausage, and other ingredients that I don't recall. On the side, I got a green salad and corn bread. Every bit of this meal was delicious, and it sat well in my stomach. Clearly, what they cook with is good quality. I wish more places back home would do the same. Overall a very mediocre experience. Came here with a friend today, and no one greeted us at the door. There were many empty seats and a waitress taking care of the bill of some patrons next to the door, but she didn't even give us a greeting or a "I'll be with you in a sec" even though she saw us as she walked away. So after about a minute of being confused as to whether or not to just seat ourselves, well, we finally just did. No one came to greet us then either. Neither of us had been here for a long time, and it took a bit before I realized the menu was on the side of the table where the condiments were as my friend looked around wondering if someone was going to bring us a menu. Much confusion: not a good start. After that a waitress did come over to check up on us to see if we were ready to order, but didn't even offer us drinks when we weren't ready (I had to request it as she was walking away). Food came *very* quickly after we ordered. We shared a combo plate (choice of 2 meats) with potato salad. Meal was medicroe in quality. The food was neither hot nor seemed freshly cooked. I guess they have all of the items pre-prepared and just slab them together when you order, so the whole meal tasted like leftovers of decent food. Waitress came to ask about how our meal was going when we were already pretty much done (supposed to be done after the first few bites, not at the end of the meal!! Jeez...). That was about the extent of customer service. Didn't come by to refill drinks or anything (had to wave her down specifically a bit later to ask for more water). Todays 4/6/2023 Just finished eating Memphis BBQ at the Vancouver CA location off Homer St.. We are visiting here celebrating our Anniversary we didn't think we would find great BBQ in Canada. To be honest we weren't even expecting it here at all. We saw the sign and came inside and was immediately greeted by the manager personally and given our drinks and menu promptly. He suggested some items on the menu and told us the history of the location. Which was great because the atmosphere and the workers like the managers was really welcoming and served us and others with excellence. My wife and I had this joint about 3 blocks from the Four Seasons in Downtown Vancouver on our 5 day vacation from Minneapolis. We entered and they had baseball going on the two screens going, cool touch. They also had some great blues playing in the background. We were greeted by a fantastic lady behind the counter and I ordered the combo pulled pork and smoked chicken sandwich special and she had no problem subbing the baked beans for the other sides they offered. I also got the coleslaw as my second side. I ordered a cheap $4.25 lager beer, which was great to see in Vancouver since beer is crazy expensive there. About 5 minutes later they brought the corn bread my wife ordered and my dishes. I have had a lot better in the Cities, but this wasn't bad at all. It was pretty moist and came on a nice bun. They had a spicy BBQ sauce, which I slathered on the chopped up meat and it was above average. The corn bread was a little dry, but I dipped it in the baked beans to moisten it up. I have had a heck of a lot better baked beans, but they were not bad or anything. Just kind of bland. The coleslaw was solid, but just about average again. The service was fantastic though, and the servers actually seemed to enjoy being there, which is always a plus. I was craving for jambalaya and so browsed on yelp to search for restaurants serving the same. This one popped up and so I ordered from here. It was served along with salad and cornbread. The quantity was sufficient for one person but it's slightly on expensive side. The taste was really good. When I ordered it next time, the quantity was more( which is great :)) but still sufficient for just one person. I also ordered half pound of beef brisket, which can easily be shared by 2 people. Corn Bread, Cole Slaw, Greens, Potato Salad, BBQ Beans and French Fries. I know. Right? It's a mess of food. But wait, with Priscilla, there's more. Throw in Oysters, Shrimp and Catfish and you have yourself a meal for the masses. Now that's alot of food and it doesn't come cheap. So for the casual diner, I suggest a Combo Plate with Brisket and Pulled Pork. You'll get a good idea of the style of BBQ the South expects.
