Would recommend stopping by on a crawl, or while waiting for a table somewhere else. Funnily enough, their menu has drinks named after waiting for a table at adjacent restaurants.

Huge, huge, huge fan of the Shebeen! I've been living in Vancouver for 4+ years now and have been…read morefrequenting the downtown nightlife scene for longer, and have never heard or been to the Shebeen up until a few weekends ago. One of my best friends was having her birthday party here and I was utterly confused that I'd never heard of this place, so much so, that I questioned her if it was the right spot..... I now admit, that I was in the wrong. The Shebeen is located through a little alley way behind the Irish Heather. You have to go through the actual restaurant to find it, so no wonder it's hard to find! It gave me total speakeasy feels. Our large group took over their little patio area pretty early on around 5:30pm and set up camp there until 10:30ish. It was fairly slow at the beginning, but as the night went on, the inside of the Shebeen filled up and this spot was bumpin'. They specialize in whiskys (hence their name), so I was ordering old fashioneds left and right. I did also have a gin and tonic or two at the beginning of the evening. The old fashioneds were some of my favourite I've had in Vancouver. You can also order food through the Irish Heather menu. After a few drinks, I needed to put some food in my body so I ordered the curry fries. Wow, wow, wow. I was in saucy fry heaven. I need more of this in my life. Honestly, I'd come back just for this. Our servers (we had two checking in on us throughout the evening), were ROCKSTARS! Before I even had finished my drink, they were already checking in and asking if we wanted another... this resulted me in never having an empty drink, which I definitely felt the next day. Now that this spot is on my radar, I'll be back more often. Thanks for a great evening and here's to many more, Shebeen!

another fine seán establishment that julia will be frequenting (the other being open outcry!)…read more thank you a for always appeasing to whatever restaurant choice i pick. tho she does say that my choices are often good...i haven't slipped up yet so let's keep it that way. shoutout MUST be given to teagan (spelling?) for being the best server. helpful, fun and attentive but not in a creepy "im watching you" kinda way! there were def some drinks that caught our eye frm the menu. a relived her childhood fav - the shandy! i had a sip and it is very easy on the palate - that lemonade adds a refreshing citrus note to the drink. i, ofc, had the gunpowder & tonic. i had a double, no regrets! then a decided to try the dirty snakebite - ribena makes it dirty and for those who know, you know i ended up having the same as my last drink but only as a half pint - so thank you teagan for informing me of that! was the dirty snakebite as lethal as the menu says - no. it is VERY easy to keep drinking it tho - the ribena adds a subtle sweetness to the drink that makes it that much more palatable. before this drink, i had the peach & orange ketel one spritzer - the peach shines through the whole drink tho not in an artificial way. another easy drink to down - i guess we were on a roll for drinks! now for food! for appies, we had the preserved seafood and posh toast. conservas aka preserved seafood are basically the canned seafood that we see at the stores - obvsly the ones at irish heather are not your run of the mill ones. we had the mejillones en escabeche #130 - smoked mussels. the mussels were smoked to perfection with a nice of hint of char. the toast that came with the dish was on point - not too burnt compared to the posh toast. the mussels were also creamy in the mouth, not something you'd expect frm canned seafood. the posh toast was nice minus the super burnt toast. the spinach and artichoke spread was on point - it almost reminded me of an egg salad spread! then the star main - the stacked corned beef sandwich. i'm sure most know how much i rave abt the corned beef - it was the same quality, same taste and same flavour that i fell in love with. as a and i shared, we added extra corned beef to make a monster corned beef sandwich. that was the best decision along with added the chili cheese to our fries. often cheese sauces can be too salty, it was the opposite in this case! best food/carb coma ever and another go-to pub to add to julia's repertoire

Lordy lordy! This place is NOT it. Definitely not worth going to the sketchy side of town for. I…read morecame in, the place was 90% empty and it took me 10 minutes to get a drink. And yes, I was sitting at the bar. Then the bartender disappeared for a long time while it looked like a few people were waiting for service. My Kilkenny seemed flat. Have you seen the food menu? Uninspired to say the least, and the kitchen was closing up at 9:00. These people do not care.
