They also made a really good margarita and I am not typically a fan of traditional margaritas. The food and drink recommendations she made for the table were great, and the onion rings are definitely the best ones we've had in the area since relocating here. Both sandwiches we had were great. The Chicken Philly had a little bit of a kick to it, which made it a nice change from usual Philly sandwiches and the Cuban was different from a traditional Cuban as it had some barbecue sauce on it. It was a little different for me at first, but I ended up really liking it. Both salads were pretty big and both people really liked the salads. The person that got the blackened grouper Baja salad thought that the grouper was fabulous, seasoned perfectly and loved the salad overall. I decided to get those last night, and the fish was two good size thick cod filets, fried and breaded perfectly. The fish was flaky and tender, the remoulade it came with really elevated it, I'm glad it was not plain tartar sauce (gross). The appetizer favorite here is the pulled pork nachos for me, otherwise, we usually just get meals. If I had one small complaint, it's that the tea is usually brewed pretty weak. Steep it a little longer, and you've got me fully hooked.

To my great disappointment it was a box of fried chicken. So now we had cold fries and fried chicken. The fried chicken tasted fine. But it was a not so happy experience. I ended up leaving because I'm not spending my money where you're going to treat me any kind of way. I'm paying their salary. Plus, I was trying to treat myself. I don't know if the ownership has changed or if they just made some decisions to alter things, but either way it changes our opinion of the place. First and most important for us, they used to be the only place we were aware of in NC to get Gluten Free Crab Cakes which was a major reason we frequented Sammy G's. That has apparently changed and the new Gluten Free menu is basically just the meats menu which is a real shame. It looks like they have made some other small changes to the regular menu as well, none of those were all that concerning but the loss of this GF treat is a real blow for us. If you are a celiac and found reviews about the GF crab cakes, please be aware they appear to be gone now. Additionally, the prices across the menu seem to have gone up by a few dollars. When you consider that Sammy G's was never a cheap place to eat, and given the state of the economy these days, that actually does come out to a noticeable change and makes it harder to justify going. However, with the loss of the old GF options, it's unlikely we'll come back anywhere near as often as we used to.

The kiosk is a bit backwards, seemingly not showing pricing until you add the item, which was frustrating, so I had to keep glancing across the restaurant to the menu board so I didn't have to keep adding and removing items. I finally settled on the chicken, bacon cheese sandwich, opting out of the combo since it's $12, and I was going home anyway. The food came out fairly quickly, again, the place was empty. I took the sandwich home, it was good, but not great, a bit too greasy for my liking. The portion size was good, and more than enough for a lunch. Overall, not for me, their competitors certainly offer friendlier and better customer service, and cleaner food quality.

However, she was out of town:) I stopped in to try some after my trip to Harris Teeter (Skeet Club Rd Location). It was early afternoon on the weekend of 11/29-30. The young lady at the counter was very nice and I had an overall very good impression. Picked up wings (Mango Habanero & Hot Honey Rub). Since it was my first time she said I had to try their Ranch dressing (complimentary). She was right. Ate when I got home and they were excellent. I can't wait until my wife goes on the next road trip. She doesn't rely on Yelp as much as I do and likely will never know. She will find out soon enough. We had kimchee, bean sprouts, broccoli, tomato and cucumber, and some kind of fish...whatever they were they were tasty. My husband ordered prawns. They brought them to the table raw and seasoned to be cooked on the metal platter in the center of the table. I got chicken that was already prepared and again so yummy! Both meals came with salad and rice and every table received the appetizers. I will say the price is on the upper end, but it is well worth the price because it was so good. There were families with children and everybody seemed to be enjoying their meal as much as we did!
