When you're working in a city you've never been to before, finding a great lunch spot within walking distance can be a challenge. Fortunately, SliceWorks made the decision easy. A coworker and I stopped in during the middle of the afternoon before heading off to work for the evening. The restaurant wasn't crowded, which gave us plenty of time to study the impressive selection of pizzas displayed behind the counter. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and happy to offer recommendations. I'll try just about any pizza once, so when the guy behind the counter suggested the Jalapeño Popper and a slice of Grandma's Pizza, I was all in. First, I couldn't help but notice they had Birch Beer available. Growing up in Western New York, that's not something you see every day, so it immediately found its way onto my tray. Now let's talk about that Jalapeño Popper pizza. Cream cheese, jalapeños, mozzarella, cheddar, and grape jelly? I'll admit it sounds a little crazy. Trust me--it's fantastic. The sweet grape jelly paired with the heat of the jalapeños and the creamy cheese created one of the most unique and surprisingly delicious pizza combinations I've ever had. The Grandma's slice was also excellent. Thick, hearty, and packed with flavor. In hindsight, it was probably more pizza than I needed for lunch, but since I don't know when--or if--I'll be back in Denver, I figured this was my chance to try more than one style. After finishing my meal, I stopped back at the counter to compliment them on the Jalapeño Popper slice. That's when I learned it had been featured on Food Network. Suddenly my choice made perfect sense. Apparently, my taste buds knew exactly what they were doing. Great staff, great atmosphere, unique pizza creations, and a little taste of nostalgia with the Birch Beer. If you're in downtown Denver and looking for pizza beyond the ordinary, SliceWorks is absolutely worth a stop. And yes... order the Jalapeño Popper. You'll thank me later. read more

One of the best decisions you can make after hitting the bars near the dairy block. NY-style pizza by the slice. They always have fun pizza of the month ideas. My favorite pizza of all time there is the Big Mac pizza. It tastes like a big mac, but much higher quality. It's what big mac wants to be when it grows up. If you order a whole big Mac pizza, then they make it fresh and it's unbeatable. But if you cannot commit to an entire pie, then a reheated slice is not bad at all. Other notable slices for me are the white pizza and the stuffed meat. The stuffed meat is insane. It cures my meat craving after like 2 bites. I don't order it often because it is too gratuitous. Friendly and non-pretentious, pretty much the complete opposite of the vibe you usually get in this area of Denver. Staff was chill and welcoming and the overall experience was pretty good. The place itself is small but clean, with a couple TVs inside. The pizza was good and actually affordable compared to pretty much everything else nearby. Definitely worth seeking out if you don't want to wait in line during busy hours and pay outrageous prices for mediocre food in the area. The buffalo chicken slice was really good. The Big Mac slice was definitely unique, it actually tasted like a Big Mac, right down to the sesame seed crust. Both slices were a decent size and filled me up fast. Wanted to try a few more slices but I was too full by that point. A few small things could make the experience even better: having a menu with prices visible, maybe a 2 slice/ drink combo special and a few more Parmesan and Pepper shakers around. Went here late night after a concert. The pizza was okay, nothing spectacular. The workers were nice. They do have a good variety of options. Surprisingly the cheese pizza slice was the worst. It seemed to not be properly reheated. When I opened the box it looked visibly less melted than the other slices. The buffalo chicken pizza was pretty good. I think the pizza was kind of expensive for the quality. Would eat again if it's the middle of the night and everything else is closed but probably wouldn't choose this place if there were a lot of other options. read more

We wanted some pizza at our hotel, and not many places were open, so we decided to get this place delivered. It was ok. The pizza wasnt bad. It wasn't the best, but it did the job. We ordered mozzarella sticks, but they were just the standard frozen cheese sticks. Absolutely no cheese pull, and the the marinara seemed like it was just store brand jarred sauce. The biggest disappointment was the wings. I ordered buffalo wings, but what I got was unseasoned, unsauced wings, with some watered down ranch. Very average. I heard good things about the place but I believe it's just "okay". Staff wasn't friendly (but not rude), pizza was so-so. Ordered 4 different slices to share and really only liked one of them. 1 in 4 aren't very good odds. Tried the grandma slice (looked delicious but was too much sauce thrown on a too-thick crust), a sausage slice, the stuffed meat slice (very strange texture- the meat is so finely ground I have no idea how they got it that way), and my favorite of the four- the jalapeño popper slice. Pleasantly surprised with this place. I was reluctant initially because the pizza was going to be reheated instead of fresh but it still hit. We absolutely loved this place and are bummed they are only in Colorado! We loved every slice we got here and went back multiple times in our 4 day stay. They also sell beer. We tried the white pizza, big mac, loaded potato, vodka pizza and a sausage pizza. They were all cooked very well and very crispy. We thought they were better than most pizza we have had in New York! Absolutely loved my late night pizza experience here. They had many choices, even so late into the night, and the pies were still fresh. The service was fast and friendly, and they actually have a very nice seating area with lots of table space that is separated from the kitchen and gives a cozy feel while you enjoy your food. It was pretty consistent traffic even for the hour. I know this is the best late night pizza. Came to Denver for the first time and sadly only for a short period of time but decided to get pizza after going to Meow Wolf and this place was excellent! My boyfriend and I order 1 slice each and 3 garlic knots and our friend ordered 3 so we decided to share everything and here is my thought on each one. 1: White Pizza - this is perfect for those that do not like a tomato based pizza. The white sauce was delicious and the flavor level was perf. 2: Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza - out of all 5 of the pizzas, this was my absolute favorite one. The flavor was not too over whelming nor was it super salty. Didn't taste too much like a bacon cheeseburger but it was delicious! 3: Baked Potato Pizza - this was my 2nd favorite pizza. Tasted just like a loaded bake potato but without all the potato but just the perfect amount of potato b/c they add some sliced potato which makes it perfect with bacon, cheese, green onions, mozzarella and a hit of ranch. 4: Sicilian - perfect amount of sauce, not as acidic as I thought it would be and it was super crispy. 5: The Gyro (pizza of the month) - this was probably my least favorite of them all. 6: Garlic Knot - there was nothing special about these garlic knots. I personally thought it was lacking garlic and oil making them a bit dry. I wouldn't order these in the future unless I am really craving for that garlic knot texture. Service: The employees were all very friendly and patient while we were deciding which slices we wanted, full of energy and smiles. Atmosphere: Nice, clean seating area surrounded by brick walls. Definitely gave me that pizza dining vibe. Wish I took pictures of their display case cause they had a wide variety of flavors to choose from. read more

My go to for a quick slice of pizza! It's definitely up for a debate as to which slice tastes the best and if pineapple belongs on a pizza or not. They got some yummy options as well as garlic knots that will kill any vampires that might be around. Bring your own gum! They got deserts as well that always seem to be changing up. Our family stopped in for a quick slice of pizza this weekend. They had a large selection of slices with something for everyone. On our visit we enjoyed a slice of pepperoni, buffalo chicken, stuffed meat, and chicken roll. The stuffed meat was true to its name and was stuffed with 5 types of meat. It came with a side of marina for dipping. Happy that the sauce was served warm. The chicken roll was filled with breaded chicken and served with a side of marina. As native of New York, who has been there plenty of times since moving out, I wanted to hate this pizza. Got the "Grandma's slice" which claimed to be just like Brooklyn. I didn't hate this pizza, but the execution is super flawed. The dough, sauce, and cheese all taste phenomenal. But the proportions are totally wrong. It's this super thick slab of bread with the thinnest smear of sauce and barely any cheese. But lots of fresh garlic! And $5 for a single slice is pure highway robbery, especially since 95% of the mass was bread. If they fixed the proportions and dropped the price to $2-3, they nailed it. Even a $4 slice I could be OK with if they had the proportions right. But it's extremely hard to recommend this as "pizza" at any price, but especially not at $5/slice.
