Marco's is an A+ in my book. I've been here a number of times and it's hit the mark every time. My family hails from Naples so Neapolitan-style pizza is just one of those things that's baked into the bloodline. Marco's really delivers and almost has me feeling like I'm back in Naples - almost. The quality of ingredients is excellent and the pizzas are extremely well made. My personal favorites are: - MARGHERITA BUFALA MOZZARELLA (anytime there's an option for Bufala Mozz DO IT!) - WILLIAMSBURG (the pesto with honey drizzle perfectly offsets the pepperoni - a pie I could eat every day) The Calabrian wings with focaccia are also delicious. This is my third time coming back to Marco's and every single time I'm reminded just how great it is. The wait staff are always so kind, service is always super quick (even when busy), and the authentic Italian vibe is always there. Marco's is known for being the first VPN pizzeria in the state of Colorado. Having eaten pizza all around Italy, I can confirm this makes me feel like I am right back there. The pizza is phenomenal (I highly recommend the bufala margherita pizza), the drinks are delicious, and you can't go wrong with any of the appetizers. Every ingredient tastes super fresh and feels very authentic. This is definitely a spot that I will continue going back to and bringing all my out of town friends to. The pizza was so yummy! I went with my husband and a group of Italians who live here in the US now. Everyone loved the pizza and there were no leftovers. I got the margherita pizza (Tuesdays they have a special) and added salami picante (spicy) The server was so nice and we had a huge group of 15 and he was so attentive and nice. We had a special room in the basement so we felt like VIPs. My husband the margherita pizza as well with prosciutto. They have a spicy olive oil as well. Can't wait to go back and try other items. We visited Marco's Coal-Fired during happy hour on a Tuesday afternoon. We were seated near the bar and opted for an espresso martini, which was freshly mixed in a cocktail shaker, and an Aperol spritz. For food, we had a small Caesar salad and a 12" gluten-free margherita with extra anchovies and arugula. All from the happy hour menu. The salad had quite a strong anchovy taste, which we loved. Very few places use anchovies in such a bold, forward way. The crust of the gluten-free pizza had good texture, close enough to the chewy awesomeness of "regular" pizza dough. The drinks were balanced and refreshing, and service was attentive throughout. Overall, perhaps due to the happy hour pricing, it was great value for money and definitely a top choice. read more

The GF pizza is some of the best in the area, and they take so many precautions to avoid cross contamination - such as never sharing toppings, never sharing serving equipment, stretch the GF pizzas in a different area, and use a separate oven to cook them. The staff are very knowledgeable, and pizzas come out with a little gluten free stick in them. HOWEVER - it is a gluten free wheat starch, so if you have a wheat allergy versus celiac, this is not for you!! I reccomend a reservation on the weekends, it is a smaller / sports bar feel. Very cute inside! We ordered a large Caesar for the table and it came with really yummy focaccia. The Caesar dressing was a bit on the bitter side for me but everyone else at the table loved it. The garlic cheesy bread was amazing and the tomato sauce on the side was so good I kept it for my pizza. The pizza had the perfect thin undercarriage but also managed to have crust that was crispy on the outside but pillowy and soft on the inside....even the people at our table who don't usually eat the pizza crust ate every crumb on their plate. But it was amazing with the subtle layers of flavor and coal charred edges on one heavenly slice. It's kid-friendly with booths and all, but the place feels like a downtown bar. It's casual and laid-back, as you watch them make pizza in the open brick ovens. They took us downstairs to the basement, which would be a great separate private dining for special occasions. This is hands down the best food in Denver from the appetizers to the pizza. Do yourself a favor and get the Calabrian wings with a side of the creamy parmesan dressing. They have a little kick and the dressing is like garlicy ranch. The Caesar salad was good you can tell the dressing is made from scratch (in a good way). The pizza was the star of the show. We got the Sicilia which was just enough for 2 people to split. The cheese and the meat and everything was loaded and with the creamy parmesan dressing was an absolute game changer. I just was not able to figure out why people think Marco's is like the best thing ever. It was terrible. The restaurant was in a meh part of downtown, which is probably fine during ballgames but not on a random Friday afternoon. The restaurant was also dirty, everything on the table had grime and dirt on it including the condiment shakers. Our waiter was terrible, every question was annoying him, he wouldn't help us make a pizza vegetarian (which simply consisted of omitting meat), he rushed us at every turn, etc. The menu is very small so just taking meat off of a pizza to accommodate a vegetarian would've been nice. The pizza itself was a horrible, soggy, undercooked, cold mess. It was just a Margherita pizza on a very not busy day, so I'm not sure why they couldn't cook it properly, but alas, it was gross. I have been hunting for a pizza place that tastes like my experience of Italy for ages, and ever since my favorite place in the highlands closed (pizzeria locale), my hunt has continued. This place is super close- the arugula and fresh basil put it right on the edge. The crust is not quite there- maybe the coal fire, maybe the dough, not sure. The pizza was delicious and I absolutely would recommend the toscana for sure, with its pile of prosciutto and sliced cherry tomatoes. We also had the amalfi breeze, which tasted strongly of limoncello- a little bitter, a lot sweet. Loved the basil was a garnish, the smell as I drank balanced the flavor notes well. We also had the Nutella pizza, which was basically two crusts with Nutella in between and covered in powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Good but kind of pricey. If you take the Nutella pizza home, eat it cold- the microwave does something to the crust which makes it weirdly chewy. Our server was excellent and we loved the exposed brick interior. This was our first place on the Downtown Denver Food Tour that we did today. We got to sample their Margarita pizza and it was so good that we decided to come back after the tour was over. Just a short walk from my apartment door I found Marco's coal fired. Delicious pizza. Echo in around four or five. It's not super busy, but it looks like they're going through the shift change process. The guys seem like their energy was great my waiter his name was Issac. He was extremely attentive, kind, and prompt. I ordered the Toscano at his recommendation and goodness was it be delicious 10 out of time then crust fresh ingredients on top cooked perfectly not chewy not crispy not hard. It was perfect. You can tell that they get packed. But the vibe all around and the restaurant was super chill. I just moved further into downtown so I'm excited to find all the gyms I can and this is definitely now at the top of my list. Outter crust was nice and crisp (a little burnt but in a good burnt bubble way for the most part) but the bottom was extremely soggy, too much cheese in the middle had to pick at it (probably what caused the soggyness). WOW! I am a pizza connoisseur and snob, so trust me when I talk about pizza. I even own my own wood-fired pizza oven. But when in Denver, eat Pizza.
