This place has been our family favorite pizza stop for years. They just keep getting better. They highlight a weekend special combo every week, and they are always unique and worth dropping in to try out. Their traditional pies and Sicilian slices are always perfectly done. Good crisp on the crust. This week's special was a European Olive with white sauce, and it was a great blend of textures and saltiness. We also tried their new menu edition, Roman Style, which was a square style margarita pizza with a nice tangy marinara - very fresh. They are located in the Desert Ridge shopping area (adjacent to the dearly departed Starbucks that was nextdoor) - and this is my go-to when I'm there with my boys who want to eat and get hangry when they have to wait at a traditional sit-down restaurant. Pizzas are pre-made so you can pick a slice or 2 of whatever looks good and they'll pop it in the oven to get the cheese melty and the crust crispy. One thing that I really appreciate is the variety - they have unusual specials like potato and bacon as well as the normal crowd favorites and even cauliflower crust and vegan options. While being surrounded by expensive dining options, they still offer an awesome deal with 2 slices and a drink for $7.99. Service is quick and efficient, even when they get the occasional large group. The only indoor seating is a long communal table but there is always some space available. Overall, the pizza is really good. I love that chewy crisp crust and have never been disappointed in the classic options - cheese, pepperoni, sausage, etc. The unusual/special ones are sort of hit or miss for me. I also tried their cinnamon twists, which were basically super buttery cinnamon breadsticks. They were so good I nearly licked the tinfoil they wrapped them in - and were only $2.99 for an order of 2. This is a solid choice for a quick bite to eat when you're in the area. read more

My choice today was on the upper end and it was the unusual provolone slice. I think it just had a piece of prov with some tomatoes instead of mozzarella. It needed a good dose of garlic, black pepper and parmesan, but finally the flavors came out. We clearly do not live in NY and the pizza quality in Phoenix (at least NY style) reflects this opinion. This reminds me of the pizza joints that I used to frequent in NY and NJ - small, extremely casual, with a good variety of pizzas ready to be sampled, especially if you are in the mood for trying more than one kind. Because the pizzas are already cooked and are in full view, it's easy to make a choice - or choices. As in the pizzerias that crowd the northeastern seaboard, the pizzas here are mainly thin-crust and you get your order fast because the slices chosen just need to be heated up. I went here to try their cauliflower-crust pizza, which I ordered with a topping of pepperoni. It was decent and satisfying, and it's quite amazing that the cauliflower crust had almost the same texture and flavor as a regular wheat crust. I just got back from Slices just now. It's pretty much my favorite pizza place ever. If I had a business, I would definitely try to steal their staff--they are genuinely *the nicest* crew (without having to be fake like at Chik-Fil-A "my pleasure"). There is something so magical and homey about this place, even without the pizza so good you'll randomly crave it for days afterward, the bottled drinks no one else carries, the give-Ben-And-Jerry's-A-Run-For-Their-Money confection-confection stuffed cookies, the gluten free, vegan, and keto options (!!!!!! All that AND the prices are still reasonable and not ridiculously jacked up because they know people with special dietary needs have to pay it, like some price-gougey places do). And Rainbow Cake :0 ! The gluten free pizza is so comforting, you would never guess it's made with cauliflower. As for regular slices, lots of incredible vegetarian options. The ricotta basil tomato and the smoked mushroom (oyster, portobello, and button) have to be my favorites, but the veggie, 6 (!) cheese, spinach artichoke, and white margherita are so good, I just have to rotate through them all, which is easy to do because 2 slice plus a drink is only $7.99 plus tax. I recently saw the results of a national survey that had Pizza Hut at the top of the Pizza Food Chain. I almost lost my lunch. I really shouldn't read (or drive) while I'm eating. I guess someone finally figured out how to train monkeys to answer surveys. Many times we fall hostage to the Pizza that is closest to our current proximity. Glad I didn't have to find a wife this way. Desert Ridge is a great outdoor mall, cool, boutique shops and eateries-perfect for a sunny January afternoon lunch and sunshine. I was ready to try something new at the frequent haunt. Slices. As in a slice of pizza. Two or more if you're hungry and I typically am. First time in and I was satisfied although not overwhelmed with the pizza. Had two slices of their combo. Size of each slice was very generous, I probably didn't need the second slice but I also shouldn't second guess myself :) The combo had sausage, pepperoni, peppers, and probably a few too many mushrooms (and I like mushrooms). The pizza is par-baked so they need to throw it in the oven to re-warm them. Each slice wasn't foldable enough for my taste and it may be due to the par-cooking and re-heating as the crust is really pretty thin. I found both the crust and the sauce tasty enough and will definitely be back in the future although I believe there is room for improvement. The service, btw, was great. read more
