Referred by a coworker who's from NY. The place was very NY vibe with great decor and tvs. Had two slices, half and half pizza and garlic knots Walk in and the folks up front were very fun with accents and speaking what sounded like italian. They wouldn't recommend any slice or tell me their favorite, which i thought was odd. Wish they would have cuz i missed on the two individual slices. White pizza slice was not my cup of tea, but the crust was a mazing. 3 out of 5 stars Spinach and tomoato slice was disappointing. The crust was amazing except for the first two bites that were very soggy. Like the tomato and spinach has released a lot of moisture. That was a rough start. 2 out of 5 stars. Half monster pizza (combo). They loaded the toppings. Probably should have requested light on the mushrooms. Crust was amazingly crunchy and did not flop even with all the weight. 4.5 out of 5. Half pepperoni pizza. Spicy and tasty. About what you expect from a a pep slice, but the crust was sooo good like the monster half. Wife and son both really liked it..5 out of 5. Garlic knots were flavorful with a tiny crunch but airy and soft on the inside. 4.5 out of 5 stars. When we are in the area, this will likely be our go to pizza place. It's been a while since I visited a Ray's Pizza. And, will be a while until I return. First the positive - you get two large slices, one topping, and a drink for less than $12. A decent deal. Food was served fast and the counter crew was friendly. However, the pizza was essentially tasteless. It was smothered in mushrooms and a good dose of cheese. But, the crust and sauce had no flavor. I had already added garlic salt and parmesan cheese. I then did something I have never done before - added salt to my pizza. Not great and won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

Unbelievably rude. And the food quality has been waning for a while now. My fault that I just ignored the obvious and kept going. There isn't a redeeming item on their menu to make up for being so unsatisfied on almost every single level. The lady who makes the cannoli .. sweet. The young lady at the counter, also sweet. The guy who more often makes the orders .. decent enough not to impose his obviously grumpy mood on you. The owner? A genuine nasty guy who needs to take his "dough" and RETIRE already. I've run into many nasty business owners but its usually based around some crazy combustible situation that spins out of control. THIS guy ... he definitely lives a miserable life (and I feel bad about that) but from the minute he sees you and has to interact ... he's itching for a fight. The words that come out of his mouth are words you should heed because at least he's honest enough to tell anyone that he doesn't need your business. But his next ball toss? You're either a liar, a cheat, or worse -- WTF -- they have to all be related because for the life of me there couldn't be a paycheck in the world worth spending time with that old lunatic. I've seen him lie, scream at people, even tell them to go somewhere else - which incidentally isn't a bad idea and easy to do because there are several really good pizzas to be had in the same area! The pizza really used to be amazing. I'm from NY (AZ for 36 yrs) and it was difficult to get that NY style & taste pizza in AZ. Some came very close, this place included. But in the last several years we came simply out of habit, I think. Every single time we came in and ordered we'd reiterate that the sample case is dirty (the fake food is actually dusty and faded) Nothing has been cleaned or revamped and it shows. I don't know why we turned a blind eye .. maybe I literally had to encounter a roach near the condiment rack? And we we had our pizza in house, we often commented that the crust had gotten so thin that lifting it was a mess but cutting it was as well because it wasn't thin crispy it was thin uncooked so it mushed into the paper plate when I cut it. A few times I took a few slices to go, don't recall an issue. Then one night we ordered pies and picked them up ourselves. When we got home (6 minute drive) we knew there was no way in the world that one of the pies wasn't sitting then reheated when it probably should've been tossed. But the other pie was clearly old with shredded cheese melted over the top of the pie and reheated. OMG ... But you'd think that would've warranted a complaint? We didn't. I don't even know why. All that money went in the trash and we talked about how disappointed we were. The other night, I came in and the owner was screaming at a customer, who from what I heard was asking for a refund for a delivery that never arrived. The girl at the counter seemed to understand what happened. The woman behind the counter kept apologizing and trying to calm the owner down but he was raging. Calling names, denying what happened & I say what happened because the woman did have proof that the delivery service cancelled her order and that she was still charged. That man actually said that she could've falsified texts and receipts. Evidently she had been a customer for 30 years and when she asked if he really thought that she was trying to cheat him for one medium pie, he said sure, everybody does! And this is why he should do something else for his remaining year on earth. If he's got such a miserable life, that he spends his days being cheated on and lied to then he should go find a sandy shore to rest his angry bones. Needless to say we left a few minutes after we entered and we're done with that place. I'm too lazy to look up the recent health inspection ratings for the store but I will soon. I swear I've left a review for this place. I have been coming here for 14 years. I don't get up here as often as I'd like but it's always a treat when I come in. Pizza by the slice, always a good selection when I come in. Very homey. They have rc and hires root beer. I'd call the service very authentic and I've never had a bad slice of pizza. read more

The topping are great especially anchovies. They are not cheap with them either. So I don't understand the 3.2 rating at this moment. The pizza is definitely a 5. This place is cranking out some top notch N.Y. style pizzas. This is definitely my new slice spot. I went in and grabbed some slices after hearing about this place for so long. I got a sausage and pepperoni slice. It doesn't get much better than this. Sauce is flavorful, dough was thin and crispy. Perfect amount of cheese. I never had super thin sliced Italian sausage on a pizza but it worked so well. Also grabbed a slice of the Sicilian. Went with pepperoni. Light and airy with a nice crispy bottom. Great spot, great NY slices & Sicilian as well. Service is fast. Wrote this review because their yelp average rating is unfairly low. Rays has way better pizza than any comparable spot in Scottsdale (finer dining is a different story). Maybe there's an issue with service when it gets busy, I have to be missing something because the pizza itself is 5/5 stars (or like a 4.7). Pro tip: Sicilian by the slice is perfect when you buy it by the slice. I'm personally not a huge Sicilian guy, but when they throw the cooked slice back in the oven to warm it up again, the texture is then perfect. read more

Ok so out of all the choices of restaurants i could have gone to, I choose this place. No more!!! Everytime when I come in I get yelled at for wanting the meal special, asked 3 times if it's to go or dine in. Then when I get to cashier I try paying with my card and it gets declined so instead of taking more time I pay with cash and the cashier takes my cup and ranches and moves to the side. Why, because I guess I'm taking to much of his precious time. Wow, I'm never stepping foot in this loud, awful, not sterile restaurant anymore!!! I used to enjoy Ray's takeout and have been out of the area for a while. Upon my return to the Valley, decided to grab their lunch 2 slices with drink. Disappointed! First, the clerk presumed I wanted cheese without asking what 2 slices from the pizza trays I wanted. Thereafter the mushrooms seemed canned and not fresh and the cheese wasn't as good as i recall. I have been coming here for years but only for cannolis bc the pizza always looks as if it's been sitting out since 1993. The lady that makes the cannolis is the sweetest woman ever and I enjoy the pride that she has making them and I feel absolutely awful that she is employed by someone so horrific. Usually I just read reviews and laugh bc sometimes they just don't even feel real but now I'm starting to believe them.Especially the reviews for this place. Tonight I came in and ordered meatballs to go.My boyfriend doesn't eat pasta and just wanted the protein..whatever...I ordered 15 meatballs,paid and as I was waiting for the meatballs the owner?? came out of the kitchen and started literally yelling at me saying that they don't sell meatballs by themselves and asked what my problem is and said he could've used those meatballs for pasta orders this week. I stood there in shock as he continued screaming at me and then I said he should be happy he even has my business when there are a ton of better places in the area..even the same complex...he kept screaming at me and called me trash multiple times. Great place for a no nonsense slice or more. I think their pizza is great. Service is curt and efficient. I have no need for warm and fuzzy coddling at lunch. I usually get a slice of Sicilian. It's under $5 and more food than I need. Quality is great and it satisfies my pizza craving completely. One of my favorites in town by far, and I'm not stuck ordering a whole pie. The white lady with dark hair and a wrist tattoo had an attitude, I came in with my dad and we had ordered 2 pizzas. She tried to box them separately but then stated she wanted to save boxes so we had to use 1 box to take our 2 pizzas to go. In other words, stack our greasy pizzas on top of each-other. And there was no shortage of boxes. We were nice left a tip and she was just really rude and trying to make our experience there bad. And well it worked. We'll be going elsewhere with our business until they get better customer service. Also check out the attached photo, where you can see all the boxes , probably because shes been "not wasting them" imagine spending your money at a business that tells you you cant have a to go box? I've been coming to this Ray's since I was 6 and am now 33. The pizza is good which is why I keep coming back but the owner is completely unhinged. I was trying to place an order on doordash but on the app it stated that it was closed. I called the restaurant and spoke to good ol Bob who was just as rude as he always is. I asked if he could check the app to see if it was toggled to closed. He just kept repeating, "No we're open." Like yeah Bob, I know that. I was just trying to place an order through doordash man. Dude just hung up on me mid sentence. The other people behind the counter have always been polite. Bob, get an ice water enema or something. You've got problems. P.S. I've been a HUGE fan of Rays pizza for well over 20 years, we'd ride our bikes to get slices here whenever we had the chance as kids. Absolutely amazing NY style pizza, whenever I'm in the area I make sure to place an order to bring home. The service at the counter isn't bad at all, whenever I call in my order, it takes less than 30 seconds to place. Short and to the point. Lots of these bad reviews seem to just be upset they can't tell the owners, how to run THEIR business. I personally think it had too much cheese for my taste. I've experienced that before from a different pie house. Sauce was not too sweet or herby. I feel I have had better pepperoni slices. I am a fan of Neapolitan style New York pizza. Long hot chewy folding slices with the right amount of char. This place did have that and was very satisfied. Service is completely shit!!! The owner of the establishment is a super asshole and his interaction with customers and problem solving capabilities are the worst ever!!!!!! This place offers delivery services and when shit goes wrong such as your uber driver running off with your food they have no way to remedy the situation! I called Rays and the cashier was very upset and concerned about what had happened because she handed my food off to the uber driver. She then passed the phone to the owner and he basically said the shit was my fault because I chose the service that rays provided!!! I have been trying to get my money back from uber eats but they don't have a record of my order because I ordered through Rays website but they use a third party for delivery!!! The shit is completely theft!! Not only from the uber driver but also from Rays because they still got there fucking money and need to bare some responsibility!! I am going to contact the better business bureau because I have had other encounters with this establishment and the way the owner at Rays treats his customers is not ok!!! read more

I'd say the pizza and the service are "NY style" so don't bitch about the family not being perky hospitality school graduates and enjoy the food. You have to know they care about serving you great food. I pass at least 3 or 4 pretty good pizza places to come here almost every Friday. And I can only RAVE about the Pizza at this Ray's. The pizza- both Neapolitan and Sicilian - is consistent and perfect! The fold, the crunch, high-quality cheese and plentiful toppings on the NY style are the best. The Sicilian crust is flavorful, airy and crisp on the bottom- yum! And I love that I can always get one slice of my white pizza or one slice of Sicilian for my MIL if the rest of us are eating Neapolitan that night. read more
