I'm honestly blown away that pizza this good is served anywhere outside of the North East.. This is the best pizza I have had in years. Crust is unreal, I asked for it extra crispy and it was cooked to order.. crispy outside , slightly dense chewy inside. The cheese and sauce ratio and flavor were both perfect. This is straight up NY pizza... The only thing i had a small issue with is they should allow comments on the postmates app.. for example no place to ask for extra sauce, extra crispy, etc.. Today was my first and last visit to Ray's. The food handling practices here are concerning to say the least. The girl working the register didn't have her long hair pulled back, and she wasn't wearing gloves when handling food. She touched multiple surfaces and then the pizza bare-handed. Then, another older employee came out without gloves and touched the pizzas, as well. And then they both went on touching other things throughout the restaurant. We also noticed the restaurant was dirty...The floors were dirty, the booth cushions were all covered in grease stains, and some were held together with duct tape. After all of that I still decided to risk food-borne illness for mediocre pizza. In a city full of good food, you can easily find a pizza spot with better food safety practices, better service, and better food. I highly recommend Yo Pauly's! read more

Ray's Pizza is a family favorite and has been for years... The four stars is for the truly authentic New York style pizza and the warm yet casual atmosphere. The $4.50+ price for a pepperoni slice is a bit high, but it includes the sometimes non-friendly New York style attitude. (That's coming from a nice Midwestern girl married to an East Coast boy with that same attitude on occasion.) Go for a slice or several pies... you can't go wrong. We recently purchased several pies and brought them to share post-soccer practice with my son's team as part of a casual covid-friendly birthday dinner, and everything got demolished! Yes, I realize it's Christmas and the place was open and that sucks. I can't believe I haven't already left a review for this place! But Ray's Pizza, specifically this location, is THE best pizza in the entire state of Arizona. I've been coming here since I was a kid. And although I've never lived near a Rays, I will always go out of my way to come here if I'm even slightly in the vicinity! The owners are some of the sweetest people I've ever met, and they greet me with a smile every time I come in. I've been bringing as many of my friends and roommates as I can lately, and they always treat them with the same amount of love that they treat me, which is incredibly valuable to me. The actual vibe of the place is fantastic as well. Very calm, soothing lighting with a very classically decorated space. And my favorite booth is almost always open. Don't go here if you care about not getting Covid or people refusing to wear a mask... 3 of the staff doesn't wear a mask, 2 of them barely over their mouth. The person taking your order and the person preparing your food isn't wearing a mask. Over half the customers don't wear a mask. We are not out of the clear and I refuse to go back to a restaurant that does not care about the safety of its customers. For this reason alone, this location gets one star. CDC guidelines say that we should still be wearing masks. It's not an "opinion" or what "I believe" it's CDC guidelines and basic courtesy. And we should do it for each other. Not just for ourselves. Will not return to this location. Ever. ** Added note: Your comment that you let your employees make decisions about what "makes them feel safe" has nothing to do with protecting others from a potential spread. This is not political. It is not an opinion. It is a fact. It's not about what "I feel" , it's about potentially exposing me and other patrons to COVID-19. Nobody "assumes" that employees are allegedly vaccinated. And even if they are, CDC guideline is still to wear a mask. Especially when you're handing other peoples food. But thank you for clarifying how you choose to run your business. Responding with "all of our employees are vaccinated" is unnecessary because that is A) not known and not provable B) does not mean you can still not spread Covid. You can. Calzone was huge, but was a huge disaster. Whoever is in charge must not be trained on making Italian food. This was a giant monster full of ricotta and mozzarella and average meatballs. The dough was just not good and although the calzone had all the ingredients, nothing seemed to make sense and the whole thing was a giant mess. Oh so delicious!! This is my favorite go-to pizza (and I have been known to go for lunch AND dinner on the same day). I love Ray's .. the pizza, the staff, the no frills, quick slice or a full pie. Whenever I see "NY Pizza" I give it a try, but I am always disappointed... NOT SO TODAY! When I heard the owners accent I knew I was in good hands. The crust was perfect it snapped when I folded the slice. The sauce and cheese were delicious; great pizza does not need toppings. I had to try the Sicilian too! Rude and disgusting customer service. First time picking up food from this place because it's Christmas and nothing open so I gave it a chance. My wife picked up food and they didn't have the order correct nor the sauce that was requested. When my wife asked for the sauce the cook shoved the sauce at her and told her to get out. Now I could take a different approach to this situation but I'm definitely not trying to sit in a jail cell and my wife said don't worry about it. Ray's Pizza does not follow CDC guidelines for their employees and they allow customers to enter their store who are also flouting CDC guidelines and safety protocols. On a recent visit, I observed a number of their staff not wearing masks and a number of customers not wearing masks. When confronted with these facts, the management of this establishment offered up the following rationalizations for putting their customers health at risk: 1) "All of our employees are vaccinated" - The problem with this statement is that based on the latest guidance from the CDC and WHO, being vaccinated does not preclude you from being able to spread COVID to others. 2) We allow our customers the "freedom" to not wear masks based on what they consider safe for themselves. The problem with this rationalization is the simple science of viral transmission. YOU WEAR A MASK TO PRIMARILY PROTECT OTHERS. How many times does this have to be communicated and how many people have to get sick and die before people understand this simple fact? Ray's Pizza in Scottsdale should be shutdown as a safety and health hazard and their management team should be summarily fired post-haste. There is simply no excuse for a restaurant of all places to not be doing EVERYTHING in their power to prevent the spread of this insidious disease which has killed 600,000 Americans and counting. read more

I like coming in here after a night of drinking, for a few slices of pizza and a coke. This place is simple and straight to the point. There's no fuss, you grab your slices and your drink and enjoy some great New York style pizza. Their whole pies are a bit on the pricey side but they are very good and their calzones are always worth a try. The Pizza dough is awesome, crisp with the right amount of chew and of course plenty of cheese and meat toppings to go on them all. Definitely returning again and again for their pizza. read more

Ray's had been a must-have slice for me in NYC. I could barely walk by the place without getting a slice. They set the standard for me for "street pie". So, when they arrived in Arizona, I was thrilled. I've been to the Hayden Rd location a couple dozen times. I have never had a bad slice there. Pretty consistent. Their Sicilian is fairly traditional but has been a bit short on the sauce a few times. I've tried one of their traditional Italian subs in the past and that fell short of being a good NY version. This last visit I found the will to go off the pizza menu and try something else. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan Hogie, and I was not disappointed at all. A generous stack of very well breaded and fried eggplant slices on a sub roll coated with their great sauce and just enough cheese. This was legit. This Italian boy was pleased. Love their garlic knots, dripping with garlicky butter. In my many visits there I have experienced some of the less than cordial interactions from staff. Not as well received as it is in the NY Burroughs. My last several visits I have experienced warm and friendly service. Especially so on this last visit. read more

**Don't go here if you have a service animal** I walked in with two colleagues on Monday at lunchtime, one of them has a medical service dog. We ordered, paid, and the owner asked if my colleagues animal was a service animal. My colleague responded yes. The owner demanded to see the paperwork and before he had a chance to get the service animal card out of his wallet, the owner rudely told him he can eat outside. My food came up and I said, since he just threw out one of our party, I'd rather not eat here and asked for a refund. The owner looked at me and started yelling at me that he's been in business 50 years and he doesn't need anyone to tell him anything. I told him I'm also a local business owner for several decades, so i know what treating customers with respect is like. He told us all to get the hell out of there and don't come back. We have been in there many times over the past year with the same service animal, so I don't know where this came from, but completely unacceptable for an owner to yell at customers after impatiently demanding service animal paperwork. Even customers behind us were telling the owner he was out of line. Its unfortunate that bull-headed business owners still exist, but its safe to say we'll never go back again. The owner acted like an egotistical, entitled, jerk that treats customers like trash and doesn't care for the law of service animals. He did NOT have a right to do what he did, and for that, we would give less than a 1 star rating if it was available.
