When someone mentions Nick's, I get hit with nostalgia. I remember this spot being *THE* local Italian restaurant to go to during my middle school and high school years. Someone recently suggested going there for lunch, so why not? On this visit, we ordered the Margherita pizza to share. This was the best tasting entrée we had during our visit. The mozzarella to tomato ratio was just right for our preferences too. For our main entrees, we ordered the shrimp scampi and the linguini with clams in a garlic white wine sauce. Unfortunately, both of these dishes were bland in flavor. Overall, the service was friendly, but a bit on the slower side. The restaurant is on the smaller side with a good amount of indoor seating and minimal outdoor seating. The only thing is, the tables are all close to each other, so you have no real sense of conversational privacy. read more

Nicks is a joke. I pulled up their website and called to place a to go order. I went to pick it up and the bill was 28% higher than the pricing on the menu on the website. When I asked them about it they said sorry, they upped prices but haven't had the chance to do it on their website yet. I asked them to honor the website pricing and they said no. $25 for some bland chicken piccata. Place is aweful, go elsewhere. read more

I wanted to like Nick's because it smelled fantastic in there. And it was incredibly busy inside. You'll definitely need to make a reservation. But it's not romantic because it's so jam-packed. The food was flavorless. But came out quickly. And the bread came out hot. But the food lacked any real flavor to it. It just lacked the love. I wouldn't come back here again unless I was invited to join friends. read more

Nick's is a long-standing local spot and a time capsule that would have been perfectly fine 20 years ago; it's a somewhat uninspired choice compared to Scottsdale's other Italian restaurants. Recent glowing reviews gave me high expectations, but the experience didn't quite match. The interior is minimal with an open seating plan and closely spaced tables, and no booths - potential noise could be a factor for some because you are practically elbow to elbow with the next table, though it didn't bother me. A few exterior tables face the parking lot of the strip mall. The food was adequate; I had the linguine with clams special, which was fine but not memorable. Service was okay, but it took time to flag down the waiter for the check, which had a billing error of an extra glass of wine. At Nick's, expect an older crowd and prices that are slightly lower than typical Scottsdale restaurants, but not significantly so. A real neighborhood type spot. Not fancy, not overpriced and solid food, although not amazing. They did bring out some interesting bread with oil on the house. Wines by the glass were decently priced with generous pours. We had a salad with tiny chopped tomatoes, olives and cucumbers. It was very refreshing. My better half ordered the chicken cacciatore and said it needed a bit more flavor so he added salt and that helped some. My dish was the Chicken with Artichokes. It tasted just like chicken piccata but without the capers. Service was very professional and friendly. When we want Italian and don't want to break the back we might return. read more

We went to Nick's at the recommendation of friends. They were impressed with the variety of Italian cuisine. What a treat! It wasn't a very big place in a small strip mall with just enough parking. I noticed all tables sitting, no booths so that they could accommodate any size party. The menu was enormous with a wide variety of favorite Italian food including but not limited to pizza, pasta, beef, veal, and seafood dishes. My wife and guest selected eggplant parmigiana, our friend Dev picked a wonderful Salmon dish and I picked my all time favorite Chioppino. Of course I believe I got the best entree on the menu that included shrimp, calamari, mussels, in a wonderful marinara sauce on a bed of linguine, I was in New York heaven. We all had such big portions there was no room for dessert; however, the ample and delicious drinks made up for it. Calamari was great as always. My entree was good, not great. I ordered scallops with asparagus. Sauce was delicious, but the asparagus was disappointing. I got just the little stumps, that I would normally throw away when cooking myself. I got no spears, and the asparagus wasn't cooked enough. read more

Stopped by Friday at noon for lunch. Thankfully it was not very busy, nice and quiet. Customer service was okay, they were nice. They took our order, got some fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and garlic bread. I was in the mood for something classic and it did not disappoint. It did take a bit to get the food out but you can tell it was freshly made and delicious so it's worth it! It definitely hit the spot. The portion size was good I even had left overs to take with me. What a nice experience. Multiple people took care of our table which in most restaurants can bug me a little but this was such a relaxed environment, it worked. The outside doesn't look like much so don't let that keep you from trying it out. The food was really yummy. I love that they have an option of whole wheat pasta or gluten free. My husband ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo and was able to have sausage instead of chicken in it and he really liked that option. I had whole wheat pasta with the artichoke and white wine sauce and it was cooked perfectly. New menu equals higher prices. If your planning on getting the now $8 side salad, expect to be disappointed. This version had 3 cucumbers, two tomatoes and alot of expired lettuce. The blue cheese though was pretty good and the homemade pasta spaghetti dish once again shined. Also, the bread was very soft and butter was included. I hate writing negative reviews but this requires a review. First I must say the ambiance was nice and the staff was very nice. My review is based entirely on the food and it was horrible. I've eaten pasta here before and it was average (nothing horrible yet nothing to write home about). This was the second time I ate here and we decided to try the pizza. I have to admit I'm very picky with my pizza because I've spent half my life living in NY and Italy experiencing amazing pizza. Arizona has some amazing pizza but this was definitely not one of them. Nothing about the pizza was good. I have to start by saying that the crust tasted like a premade frozen crust. The toppings even tasted premade/frozen. Costco makes a better pizza. ‍. We have been coming to this Nick's location, on and off for ten years now. The food is very good and they excel at both Fish and Bolognese Lasagna. We stopped in last evening around six and they were three quarters full. That it amazing, since on the weekend this place can easily have a forty-five minute wait. Been there, done that as they say. We started with a glass of Pinot for $8, a delicious Santa Margherita Chianti for $13 and their house Antipasti $10.00. All were good and our server Tony didn't rush us, even though things started hopping around six-thirty. For our entrées, we ordered the baked Lasagna and Angel Hair/Capellini in an Arrabbiata sauce, served with Meatballs and sliced Sausage. (I've never understood why they slice them). Both were tasty, and memorable. See photos. On previous visits, I have tried their Fish and thought it to be very good at around $26. I would skip the Chicken Parmigiana though. We found it be dry and clearly wasn't soaked in buttermilk. Sorry. Our tab came to a very fair $61 before taxes and gratuities. COME HERE. The food here is AMAZING, all of it. I tried the gnocchi gorgonzola. My mom said it was happy happy Joy Joy. I also had pasta Bolognese and it was unreal. And it is a nice little, fancy Italian restaurant that you wouldn't think of going to until you do go. But it is almost impossible to get a table. It is almost always a 45 minute wait. And when you are that hungry, you don't want to wait that long. read more

I decided to give this place an other try. I ordered a veal Parmesan sandwich. A lot of places don't carry veal. The sandwich came to $15 and change. It was a small sandwich with both ends of the bread cut off. Actually the ends of the bread are the good parts --nice and crunchy. But they were nowhere to be found. More disappointing was the taste of the meat. I couldn't tell what it was and it didn't taste like veal. I'm not saying it wasn't veal. I'm saying the taste was not there.I would have been better off ordering a chicken Parm and saving some money in the process. I will say that the sauce was really good. We been going to Nick's for years. Unfortunately, our last few visits have not been good. Haven't seen the waitresses that used to work there. We 've been waited on by whom we understand to be the owner. He doesn't give you bad service, he just gives off a very insincere vibe. The food is just no longer good and definitely not worth the price. Portions seem smaller too. One of my favorites was the chicken ravioli. However, on recent visits, the pasta is thick, tough and chewy, the filling was dry and the sauce was much too thick. My husband had the baked ziti with meatballs. There was an over abundance of cheese baked on top. So much so that he had to scrape most of it off. The sauce tasted like they just heated up a can of tomatoes and mixed it with the ziti ... no seasoning at all. We've given them a couple chances thinking it was an off night, but now we're done. read more

No sooner did we all have our entrees did they start offering boxes to pack up our food....we all felt rushed and unwelcome.
