For a place that's literally called slice, the slices they have available at any given time at this location are disappointing. I've come here during the day, at night, late at night, and no matter what it seems like these guys just can't get the rhythm down on how many slices to have available. I'm always choosing the last dried up crusty one of any variety left. The service is fine, the place itself is clean and inviting enough, but none of that matters if you're always down to your last sad slice of pizza in pretty much every category. I have gotten a whole pie from here before and it was great, but if you just want a slice or two this location is just so hard to hit right. No frills pizza place. They have 3 bigger booths and two single booths. The service is very fast. I did notice the tables don't get cleaned after every customer. I personally don't have an issue with this because I wipe the table down after use. The place is very fast paced and tiny. You need to need to finish your slice ASAP because people are starring you down while you eat. You're better off going to the slice on 30th Avenue I believe it's a little bigger. I had ate 3 different kinds of slices on my own feeling hungry and brought a coke fountain drink to drink it up feeling thirsty that the 3 slices I got tasted really good and delicious. Was initially gonna rate this place a 3 star due to limited menu options and pizza that doesn't really stand out but what made this a 4 star is customer service. The lady by the counter was very attentive and courteous which made for a good starting pleasing experience. I've had 2 slices, while not the best I've ever had, they're serviceable. Was thinking of getting Mozzarella balls but they were a little too rich for my blood. Looking over the menu, I might try their pasta dishes next when I come back around there. $2.00 for 3 -Dry, VERY DRY UNGARLICED knots. Very disappointed in the garlic knots. a little xtra oil and some fresh chopped garlic goes a long way, even if the dough is a bit dry from sitting out. please consider fixing this. read more

This place gets a solid 4 stars and here's why: If I'm ordering a slice extra cheese ... it means a slice extra cheese! You aren't doing me any favors. A grilled chicken Caesar salad should look appealing. The look of that white lettuce didn't do it for me. The fact that the garlic knots tasted like zeppoles was the icing on the cake. I've ordered multiple times from Slice Astoria, but there always seems to be something wrong. So I will no longer be ordering from here. One time, I placed an order and it simply did not deliver. I tried to call the restaurant and no one answered, then eventually when I got through I was put on hold for 20+ minutes. I hung up and called again, again I was on hold for 20+ minutes. I had to report to my bank that I never received it to get my money back. Another time I ordered and it said 45-60min for delivery. I was still waiting after 1 hour and 30mins - again when I called to see where my order was there was no answer and then eventually I got through and was put on hold straight away. When I finally got to ask where my order was, the man said the delivery driver was in an "accident" and that "these things happen". About 5 mins later (1 hour 45 mins total waiting) my order finally arrived and every single item was cold! I thought the driver was in an accident...? This was an impulse eat. I thought the pizza was good - sauce a little on the sweeter side and the crust was crispy out of the over. Quick counter service with seating. Comment - If you are not going to honor the check in bonus then don't have it. I showed this to the workers and they said it's only during happy hour even though it doesn't say that anywhere. My friend and I wanted to get some late night slices, and while sLICe was nearby with fast service, the pizza itself left a bit to be desired. NY Slice-style shops are very price-sensitive; a $1 slice and a $4 both serve their purpose, but there is an expectation for each. The four slices we got, two classic cheese and two vodka, weren't particularly bad or greasy, but were $3.75 each. That price puts it in the same tier as Joes and other "higher caliber" names, which this just wasn't. If each were $2.50 -$3, I'd be very satisfied. Four words: Deep Fried Garlic Knots! At first glance, I thought I was looking at zeppoles, but when another customer asked for garlic knots, I knew I had to try them. And try them I did! Three of them to be exact... and let me tell you, they are THE BEST GARLIC KNOTS I HAVE EVER HAD! I know those are fighting words but they really were amazing! They have to do more, a lot more, with these bad boys because they are down right delicious! All their slices looked amazing, but what was really calling out to me was their white slice. Super, super thin crust and just the right amount of cheese graced my plate. I also have to say that my slice wasn't lukewarm when coming out of the oven. Rather it was piping hot!! This place got an 8.1 from Portnoy so we decided to stop in when other dinner plans fell through in LIC. The selection at 6:30 on a Friday evening was abysmal - no regular slices, and only about 4 options of slices that clearly had been sitting for some time. The artichoke dip (pesto) slice was nothing special, and the vodka slice didn't even taste of vodka sauce. The Sicilian though - if I was just eating that slice, this would be a five star review. The garlic knots appeared to be deep fried and were an oily mess - after one bite the rest of the order went uneaten. I stopped by Slice for the first time to get 2 regular slices to go. Regular cheese slices tend to be the same almost everywhere but I would say the ones I had were slightly above average. (Cheesy and tasty). And they had to be heated up so even though I wasn't lucky to get one fresh out of the oven they were still tasty. I'm also adding another star because the guy who helped me was polite and friendly and he put the slices in a box (unlike other places that use a bag and the cheese gets stuck everywhere). The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because each slice costs $2.75 so I paid $5.50 total, no soda, but many places in Astoria offer specials such as 2 slices and a soda for $5. There are also $99 cent slice places which offer a slightly lower quality slice for a third of the price. (unfortunately the one in Steinway at 28st closed). But overall I was satisfied with my experience at sLICe and I will be back to try other toppings. read more

We have now ordered sLICe several times, delivery only, and we truly enjoy it. Everyone raves about the pizza (understandable), but don't sleep on the heroes. My husband devours the eggplant parm and we both love the chicken parm. But my fave is the meatball hero. Three big, beefy meatballs served whole (!) with melted Muenster (!!) and sauce. Just really good. The hero bread is not the greatest - it's not even great - but what's inside is worthy. Giant but coming...they wrap their heroes in paper-backed foil. Not the good kind. So upon delivery, you spend a tragic amount of residual-heat-time peeling tissue thin shards of paper away from the soggy bread spots (no shade, see aforementioned delivery) and more excruciatingly, the cheese. My family has resigned that paper is a topping and moved on. The Sicilian pie is well above average and reheats beautifully. Nice, nice crust and great cheese-sauce ratio. Speaking of sauce; intense tomato flavor, tangy, savory, wonderful. Sadly, it couldn't rescue the calamari. People who order calamari for delivery deserve what they get. That said, skip it. Doesn't mean it's not good to eat-in. But I probably wouldn't try. You get it. In short, get the heroes. :) read more

We got the breadsticks and they were pretty good. The pie was a monster. We got chicken cutlets, extra cheese, bacon on one side, and mushrooms and olives on the other. The olives were supposed to be onions, but there was some kind of miscommunication. They weren't gross, but they were a little disappointing. Overall the pizza was pretty good, and we both enjoyed it. I also thought the staff was really nice. A real nyc slice. The dough is thin and crispy (when u fold the pizza, it holds up very well despite the bottom crust being so thin and crispy), sauce consistency is on point. I wish they used a sharper cheese on their pizzas though, the cheese I had tasted like only shredded mozzarella and wasn't salty enough. Twenty years ago, if you grew up in an Italian neighborhood in nyc, this type of pizza slice would be served in the neighborhood.
