Macoletta really does have fantastic pizza. The employees here are so nice and if you sit at the bar, it's a lot of fun to watch them make the pizzas. I took the margherita and truffle mushroom pizza to go and had the Diablo pizza to stay. All three of them were absolutely great, but if I had to pick a favorite, I would go with the truffle mushroom pizza. The only reason I'm giving this place four stars instead of five stars is that the drinks were quite diluted in other words, I had to drink three cocktails to feel the mildest buzz. However, I would still return back because this place is about the pizza, it is not a bar, and they do make some fantastic pizza. read more

We've gone to the Brooklyn location a couple times & it's consistent; however we visited the Astoria location again recently and it was so bad.. I am honestly so disappointed and shocked at the service, the quality and taste. For a $40 pie; you expect taste & good quality, we got 2 large pizzas and they were barely cooked with barely any protein and had no taste... we asked the waitress what was going on & compared it to Brooklyn, she said "We do things different, they cook it for an hour and a half, we asked if we should've asked for extra crispy or if it was an off night because it was busy... so we end up ordering a "white pie" extra crispy with burrata.. the pie comes & it's literally bread with olive oil??? What the?? When we questioned it, the waitress could barely explain it, all we wanted was a simple answer as to how that is possible, she started getting defensive & sent out the other waitress instead. In real restaurant business, you explain the miscommunication & ask how you can make it right.. instead the waitress literally ignored us the rest of the night?? First off, my kids (who are very picky eaters) were both very happy with the margherita pizza and the rigatoni bolognese. The pasta was my dinner and they ate a lot of it bc it was so good, however the portion size was small. I don't really eat veal and the waitress assured me that it was delicious and it certainly was! My husband got the broccoli rabe and sausage pizza and it was perfect. All the food was delicious and fresh. I do recommend making reservations if you want to sit inside or at the bar. I ordered delivery for the first time and got the small Margherita pizza and WOW. The very first bite literally felt like heaven. Everything was cooked perfectly: the crust had the perfect texture, the flavors were balanced, and the sauce was absolutely delicious. I've been here so many times since August 2018, and the quality is always the same. Consistent, delicious, and the service is amazing. I've been here for brunch, lunch, dinner. I came here twice while I was staying for a week in Astoria since the menu just looked so good! On the first instance, I got the burrata canvas and a Shirley temple. The streak of good, balanced shirley temples continues! The burrata canvas has me a little conflicted though, I felt like the mini calzones tasted very similarly to each other. My favorites were the mushroom (surprising) and margherita (unsurprising). But the only real difference between them was that the mushroom one didn't have tomato. The diavolo one tasted almost exactly like the margherita one except for one spicy bite. My least favorite was the broccoli rabe and sausage one, I think I was just expecting a different taste maybe like a sweet sausage but it was more bitter from the broccoli rabe. The best part of the whole canvas was the dough though. It tasted like actual pizza dough, way better than a lot of the calzones I've had at typical pizzerias. On my second visit, I ordered a mocktail that was a spirit free version of the mango peño (I think) and it was so tasty!!! I absolutely LOVED the burrata salad, the arugula was quite perfectly dressed in something that added a saltiness that was honestly addictive and perfectly balanced the creamy burrata and peppery arugula. I ate the whole thing! And I also ate the whole personal margherita pizza. I REALLY love margherita pizza and this one was just so fresh and delicious. I almost came back a third time. The food here is good. The problem is that Astoria is full of spots similar to Macoletta which are outstanding. Still, I find myself back here at least once per year since it's so close to the park. This time around we tried the rice ball special which was crispy, but a little bland. The Napolitano pizza with capers was one of the better pies I've had here, though I had to ask for the anchovies on the side since my partner is vegetarian. We ended up having leftovers, which they boxed along with the anchovies which means those are now my leftovers since the slices have been contaminated. Service is always friendly and swift, and the ambiance is modern but cozy. We sat in front of the pizza oven this time which was fun to watch. We made a reservation through RESY, well we tried to but they wanted a credit card on file so I just called them and they did it themselves through RESY. We got there at 630PM and were seated in a quiet little corner. Our waitress Georgia was so nice and attentive! We started off with a round of drinks. I got the High Fashion and my best friend got the Pirate Mojito. As an appetizer we got the homemade meatballs and then we shared the capricciosa pizza and a rigatoni bolognese. First time at Macoletta taking a pizza cooking class. They have a super cool oven shipped in from Verona that has a spinning and elevating stone. Darby is the instructor who walked us through the history of the store, it's owner, and the pizza made at Macoletta. She taught us how to make the pizza. She was very well informed and friendly. My partner and I also met the owner. Walid, who was welcoming. He offered us free samples of the burrata they have with fresh baked bread. I highly recommend the pizza making class. It came with 2 alcoholic drinks, the pizza you made, and a dessert. I had the Where's Walid-O drink which had great jasmine notes, hibiscus, and had a nice kick to it. Came here on a beautiful Sunday noon for lunch and sat outside. We tried two pizzas - Diablo and sausage. They were both flavorful but I wish there was more cheese and meat- on the sausage pizza there was only 1-2 sausage pieces per slice. Is it wrong to dream of pizza? If it is, I don't want to be right. I think Walid who runs Macoletta definitely dreams of pizza, too. We took a pizza-making class with him at the Astoria location and his passion for pizza is palpable. He attends pizza conferences, he bought the best pizza oven on the market. Every pizza is cooked in a matter of seconds. (110? 120? I can't remember.) My two favorite pizzas are the Algerino and the Taleggio. The Algerino has merguez sausage, smoked shallots, fontina, and roasted tomatoes. It's a great combination. The taleggio has fresh mozz, caramelized onions, and Italian sausage. The caramelized onions are sweet and the perfect compliment to the pizza. The staff is exceedingly kind and accommodating. I am lucky I don't live closer, otherwise I'd be there all the time. The restaurant is a bit small, but it has a large outside dining structure. I love bringing people here! read more

I'm really sorry, but this pizza did not live up to my expectations after reading all the glowing reviews. We ordered Pizza Bianca with a topping (cause it seemed to simple) and pizza Diablo gluten-free. The dough was okay but quite bland, lacking any real flavor. They don't seem to use many spices, so it felt more like eating plain bread. The gluten-free pizza was a complete disaster--honestly, I'm not even sure if "tasteless" is the right word, but it was far from enjoyable. On top of that, charging an extra $7 for the gluten-free option is absolutely outrageous. Overall, I'm very disappointed. Not worth it and looked nothing like the pictures I saw. We had to return to Macoletta since our 1st experience was so amazing! Macoletta is easily becoming one of our favorite dining spots in our neighborhood! This time around we went on a Monday late afternoon for Happy Hour, which runs from 4-7pm. We started with the Pirate Mojito (pineapple & mango), which was made perfectly for us by our server and bartender, Ricardo. Wow it was so delicious and refreshing and strong! We also started with the shishito peppers that came with a yummy chipotle mayo dipping sauce and it was perfection - definitely a must try! For our entrees, we opted for the special of the day instead of pizza, and opted to try the chicken special which came with a refreshing side salad. The special was actually more of a chicken parm and it was absolutely delish - I cleaned the plate! We finished with another round of the Pirate Mojitos. We ordered rigatoni which was delicious, gnocchi (the smelliest cheese stink ever), and the Nutella pizza was amazing but their ice cream said gelato and it was soooooooo not, it was horrible. Just think of yogurt but placed in the freezer for two mins. It was soft and flavor was mixed between strawberry and vanilla. So I don't know not the best experience but it was okay.
