I returned to Albas last October to see what improvements had been made. There were new staff members, and the pizzeria looked like it had been remodeled to resemble a sports bar. We had a wonderful experience at Alba's tonight. Our Server, Heney, was very helpful in explaining the food and drink menu to us and was very friendly and upbeat. The Arugula Salad was very good. Our two main courses of manicotti with meatballs and pasta with broccoli rabe with sausage were delicious and the portions were huge and will be enjoyed at lunch tomorrow. It pains me to say this; Albas has been my go to for 11 years. I normally love this place, however after tonight's visit I will never be able to return. Albas is racist!!! I went in with a group of 5 at the bar, we were having fun and laughing (unfortunately two white women with three Mexican Americans attracts unwanted attention from racists). We all laughed at a joke and were then told that one of the two tables in the restaurant was offended by us and we needed tk be quiet. Naturally, i don't take kindly to racism (the two tables were white people, also...l'm a privileged white women just saying) and that's what it seemed to be. I asked how we were being loudly and were rudely talked down to by James (don't know his title but he is a white male with medium length black hair and stubble) whose basic demeanor was that they don't like the kind we were with and basically we had to leave. It was beyond disturbing, disgusting and appalling. I have loved Albas for years but if they are racist I just can't. I called to receive the title of James (he answered the phone) and hung up on me. Don't eat there... clearly they pander to hatred, which is sad cause i really did love this place. Go to Dinos on Broadway or Belluci's on 30th, just as good as Albas without the racism. read more

A nice to sit down for a slice or two. We ordered a large pie of the Quattro pizza without portuito. It was kkay. The dough was medium thickness and crunchy. It was good but there was very little sauce on the pizza even though at first glance it looked like a lot. The sauce had no flavor just its natural tomato flavor. There are lots of artichokes on the pizza and olives too. This pizza lacked flavor. Even after adding salt and pepper and the other spices. Tge second slice was slightly better. While visiting Astoria, hubby and I decided to get some take out to go and I found Albas on my phone to be within walking distance. I ordered the chicken parm hot hero and hubby ordered the veal and peppers hero. We also decided to split an order of fries with cheese. The sandwiches were very good, the bread was fresh, toasted perfectly with plenty of filling. The fries were excellent, not covered in yellow mucky cheese but broiled with real cheddar. I think this place has the best pizza in the area. It's slightly more upscale then you're standard pizza joint but the prices are more or less the same. Pizza always has a thin crust, sweet tomato sauce, and good cheese. My go to's are the regular and the white pizza. Margarita could have more basil or use a better quality cheese. I love their garlic knots. They don't shy away from the butter and garlic! They make a pretty good penne ala vodka for a pizza joint. It's a bit steep at $14 but sauce is really good and pasta is always cooked great. I love their eggplant parm heros. The eggplant is nice and thin with a good crust. They have tons of dining space and even a room in the back you can reserve for small parties. This place is perfect for casual dinners with family or even a nice date night. The pizza and food is great but the service you get from the TWO GUYS (the old guy and young guy) that make the pizza is horrible! I've been in there repeatedly in which I'll ask nicely for a sauce or to cut the slices in halves and you would think that I asked them to remake the pizza or something with the faces that they make or how they mutter stuff to each other or under their breaths.
