First time at Macoletta taking a pizza cooking class. They have a super cool oven shipped in from Verona that has a spinning and elevating stone. Darby is the instructor who walked us through the history of the store, it's owner, and the pizza made at Macoletta. She taught us how to make the pizza. She was very well informed and friendly. My partner and I also met the owner. Walid, who was welcoming. He offered us free samples of the burrata they have with fresh baked bread. I highly recommend the pizza making class. It came with 2 alcoholic drinks, the pizza you made, and a dessert. I had the Where's Walid-O drink which had great jasmine notes, hibiscus, and had a nice kick to it. My partner had the Nutella pizza and I tried the pannacotta, which was very refreshing. Definitely coming back! read more

I am baffled by all the good reviews. Ordered delivery. It was 50 minutes late. But ok maybe it's not the restaurant fault. Food itself is abysmal. Mushy overcooked pasta. I asked for Porcini pasta with italian sausage and Alfredo pasta with chicken. Instead i got allfredo with sausage and porcini and chicken. The Alfredo pasta itself is Overcooked creamy mess. Wow. Where to even begin. This place is ridiculously good. Upon approaching the restaurant, I realized that the place had a very cool decor and ambiance for both the outdoor seating and indoor seating. Definitely a vibey looking spot inside and out. The open kitchen concept along with the pizza oven right in the middle of the restaurant steal the show of the interior of the restaurant. To start, my girlfriend and I ordered the margherita pizza which was fantastic. I spent a month in Milan, Italy back in 2022 and I must say - the pizza here was just as good as the ones I had in Milan. The crust was perfect and the sauce was 10/10. After having the pizza, we ordered 2 pasta dishes that were cooked perfectly al dente. We ordered the tonnarelli cacio e pepe along with the pasta with the pomodoro sauce. We were blown away by both dishes. Again, the quality of the pasta and sauce was comparable to the pasta I had in Italy. I'm giving this place 5 stars, easily. Best pizza in the neighborhood!!! Oh my goodness that was such a good meal. We did a socially distant outdoor dining experience, and I will most definitely be back for more. Nothing beats pizza fresh out of the brick oven. You bite into it and the flavors are a party in your mouth. Truffle pizza was amazing, and so was the eggplant. Macoletta in Astoria is such a good vibe. My friend looked them up and recommended we go here for dinner, so I was down to try it. We sat outside, it was a Sunday night. It was really nice. They had live music happening, which added to the vibe, and the staff were super friendly. A+ for decor and ambiance. My 3 stars come into play with the food, unfortunately. I only ended up ordering the veal meatballs. They were just ok to me. I've had some amazing veal meatballs that really raised the bar for me. These balls just weren't as flavorful. The sauce wasn't memorable and a bit bland. Even the texture of the meatballs for me, just weren't really giving veal. Veal is usually super tender and light and moist. Almost to the point of barely having to chew. I just didn't get that with these meatballs. They could just be prepared differently, or perhaps I've just been spoiled by amazing veal meatballs. They also came out fairly quickly after I ordered them, which always leads me to believe that they could've been prepared or made earlier. Not saying that's the case, but a possibility. My friend who wanted to come, ordered the shoshito peppers and enjoyed them. My other 2 friends both ordered pizza. One of which, was a mushroom pizza, and the other was some sort of prosciutto de Parma pizza. Neither of them enjoyed them, sadly. Very great waiting service and the pizza dough is phenomenal and overall delicious! I also got the Mac omertà salad with cut up pears and arugula which is one of the greater pairings! They can make virgin versions of the alcoholic drinks which is great for me and not the biggest space but they also have outdoor seating which is cool. I would rate Macoletta four and a half stars. My wife and I came here for lunch with a couple friends from out of town. They have a big menu with a focus on Neapolitan pizza. They have a nice variety of items for a pizzeria. I decided to go with tomato and mozzarella panini with one modification. I rarely ask for modifications but decided to add arugula in order to make it a proper caprese panini. The bread stood out. I think it was made from a similar dough to what the pizza was made of. It came out light, airy, and with a nice crust. All of the ingredients were bright and fresh. It was simple yet delicious. They have a handful of beers on draft with a nice and approachable variety. I didn't look into the wines much, but the bottles on display were all good picks to me. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. They didn't trouble us at all as we lounged after our meal. There is only one restroom but it is nice and spacious including a changing board. They also have an impressive coffee machine. All in all, it's the perfect neighborhood comfort spot! read more

We stumbled across this little gem on our way to meet up with friends. The restaurant was clean with simple decor. We sat at the pizza bar. I wanted to see the pizzas being cooked in the huge oven in the middle of the restaurant. At such a close distance, I was surprised to not feel the heat of the oven. The chef was a man of few words, concentrating instead on his craft. We ordered a mozzarella caprese and a diablo pizza to share. If you have a fondness for mozzarella like I do, I would highly recommend this dish. It is one of the top five caprese salads I've had. At first glance, the freshness of the hand ripped mozzarella calls out to you. Incorporated in the cheese was a bit of sea salt that gave the dish a much needed dose of umami and added texture. The light touch of balsamic vinaigrette was perfect. The pizza came out at the perfect moment. The dough was slightly charred but still fluffy and not overly doughy. The pepperoni leaned closer salami than your typical american pepperoni. I didn't think I would taste something so delicious outside of Italy. Went here about a year or so ago and had some pizza... it was pretty good. Came back here recently and was underwhelmed. I did not like the pizza at all. Very soggy, and the ingredients were off...the meat on their spicy pizza was not of good quality. And their pizza with olives was just a horrible composition. Something was off altogether with my pizza and I was very sad. I kept a smile on my face but I was really not happy and my girlfriend did not like the pizza either. Even though the place is very nice and pizza is decent, we had a terrible experience. We arrived around 9,30 pm and no one greeted us , they simply told us to take a table outside . We waited more than 10 min for the water and no one clean the dirty table . The waitress could barely understand English and she had zero knowledge of the menu . Finally we ordered but we never get any bread silverware or plates , we had to ask for it when we got our appetizer (25 min of wait ), she brought the bread when we were done with our appetizer . Then the pizzas arrived at the table the runner told us the server made a mistake and ordered a large Diablo instead of the individual one but to avoid to wait more time we could keep the large one . She never came to check on us . when finally she decided to came outside we ask for the check. We pay and we left very unhappy and we made a double check to our bill and we noticed she charged us for her mistake , we had to came back to fix the "mistake" and she didn't even apologize! Macoletta specializes in what is perhaps the first instance of this stylistic divergence: the Neapolitan pie. True to its name, this style of pizza comes straight from the old country, and its translation here is at its best a reliable combination of traditional ingredients and modern cooking. The modern aspect is hard to ignore, presenting itself here as a mammoth steel contraption of an oven that the entire restaurant revolves around. It's worth taking a seat at the bar just to witness the device in action, rotating various disks adorned with toppings as they rise up into the heavenly glow of the oven's heat. You can practically hear a choir of angels when a perfectly cooked pizza descends back into view. While the toppings on these pizzas can vary in quality, the crust is always impeccable. Delightfully airy and chewy with crunchiness exactly where it needs to be, it's a shame that the kitchen is still working out the kinks on some of their more creative options. We'll start with the good ones: go for the Diablo pizza if you're not a vegetarian. The spicy nduja really elevates this dish and is consistently excellent. You won't go wrong with classic Margherita or Bianka (spelled with a "k" here, possibly a nod to the neighborhood's greek background), which are good, flavorful versions of these standard pizzas. While the kitchen should be praised for their willingness to experiment, this is where things begin to go awry. An otherwise sumptuous pizza topped with broccoli rabe and sausage is overwhelmed by cold dollops of ricotta. Eggplant w/straciatella should be an obvious combination, but the version offered here can't seem to shake a tinny aftertaste that permeates throughout an otherwise solid dish. A small selection of well-assembled salads help lighten up the otherwise rich fare, but even they are sometimes let down by the inconsistent quality of their ingredients (looking at you Caprese). While seasonality can be an issue, the kitchen should still do its best to ensure consistency when placing these items on the menu, and sad bland tomatoes are always tough to take. However, a friendly staff and reliable baseline of quality means I won't knock off more than one star. My wife and I love having this place as a local option and hope to see them continue to grow as time goes on. Definitely worth a visit. read more

A friend and I were looking for a place with outdoor seating and decided to visit this place so I could try out the pizzas that I've seen in the photos. I ordered the "meat lovers" pizza despite me being a bit surprised by the descdescriptioniption that it only included 2 different types of meat (pepperoni and sausage). I decided to give it a try anyway. Well, good to say that I thought it was really good. The crust was slightly charred (which I like) - and maybe... just maybe I personally like it well-done a little more, but still it was very nice. No complaints at all. Now.... to be honest, they did ask if I wanted any red pepper flakes or garlic to which I said yes to the pepper flakes.. and to this day I am still waiting for the flakes. HAHAHA - no worries, it was just as well since it was more than fine without it. The pizza you see in the pic is for the large size pizza which is fit for 2-3 people I think. It's primarily where my friends and I have dined, particularly during COVID.
