Ive lived in Astoria practically my whole life yet never been to Vite. It off 31st ave on 34th street and for some reason ive never ventured there. While deciding where to go one day, this was suggested and im so glad I went. The restaurant is cozy with tables inside the main dining room and in an enclosed outdoor seating area. Im guessing it opens in the summer. I sat down with my niece while waiting for my sister and for a good 5-7 minutes, no one stopped by and gave a menu nor offered water. Finally after about 3 people walked by not saying anything, someone came. The area is not that big and 7 minutes isnt that long but to sit there any not be addressed by all the staff walking by was annoying. Finally my sister came and we were offered water and a menu. After hearing about the specials and asking for recommendations, we settled on the gnocchi (housemade potato gnocchi, burrata, peas, pesto sauce, toasted pine nuts), Pappardelle alla Bolognese (housemade ribbon pasta, meat sauce), and side of sautéed spinach. The food arrived and we were pleasantly delightful by the main. The gnocchi was so soft and creamy, the sauce was delicious. Im not a fan of gnocchi but this was so good. The papardelle was my meal and it was also so good. There was a lot of pasta and a good amount of meat sauce. It was also delicious. The spinach on the other hand was bland. It has no flavor and we had to add some salt. A few times we tried to call someone over to our table but felt like no one was paying attention. When we were done with our meals, my sister had a few pieces of gnocchi left. She asked for a box as it was to be my nieces lunch for tomorrow. I then said, can you also box up the spinach. A few minutes later, the server dropped off a bag with one container and said here's the spinach. We tried to call his attention but he was already walking away. Where was the gnocchi. Finally when we came back, we asked about it and he said oh I thought it was garbage. I said no we asked for it to be boxed. He said let me talk to the kitchen. He came back and said sorry, they cant do anything but one dessert will be on me. I guess thats fine but we more wanted the food for the baby. For dessert we ordered a tiramisu and pistachio gelato. The tiramisu was in a jar as opposed to a cake slice. One bite of the ice cream and I knew it was bad. It was grainy and sandy texture. I looked up why that would be and one reason stated it could be improper storage, like it was unfrozen or melted then refrozen. I wasn't chancing that. I told the server and said I couldn't eat it. He offered another dessert but I said know, then offered a limoncello shot. While I appreciate the offer, we weren't drinking before so that wasn't the best option to offer. I just said im fine without a replacement. When we got the bill, the dessert was taken off like he said he would. We paid and left. Overall the main course/pasta meals were delicious. The sides and desserts could use work. Service was alright. Id definitely come back for the food and to try some of the pizza. read more

What a charming neighborhood gem! We came on a Monday night as a party of three to celebrate our friend Liz's bday and I have had this place bookmarked for a while and it easily exceeded expectations. The decor is simple but cozy, it seems like a place you find yourself in, in the middle of the week. Lastly the swiss chard was crunchy on the ends and nice and tender on the leaf. I went to Vite recently for a birthday dinner with a small group and I was very disappointed. This place has fallen off!!!!! So sad! Aside from getting stuff spilled onto our table and our clothes by both the owner and the staff at separate times (to which there was nothing done other than SORRY)... they brought out the wrong food initially and then had to take our food back to the kitchen and wait for the rest to be ready, so some of our plates were cold. Food just didn't taste as good as it used to. Over salted and they must be sourcing it from somewhere else.. poor quality. And the owner... I mean, does this guy think he is charming? He made a couple jokes that didn't land at our table... I didn't come there for your comedy I came for the food so please just either be a fly on the wall or get out of the way. read more

After ordering our food, we got a few slices of focaccia bread made in-house. I was so surprised that it tasted sooo good! It was soft and pillowy! For appetizers, we got Fried Sardines paired with a lightly dressed salad with tangerine slices and the Breaded Eggplant with mozzarella and tomato sauce topped with basil. The Fried Sardines were perfectly fried and seasoned and was not oily at all. The salad on the side was bright, citrusy and I love the tangerine slices. The Breaded Eggplant dish was also delicious. For entrees, we got the grilled branzino, NY strip steak, and a pasta, Pappardelle alla Bolognese. The grilled branzino came with a bean puree and sauteed swiss chard - the fish was perfectly grilled. This is my favorite Italian spot in Astoria! It's a cozy restaurant that frequently has delicious specials and a consistently delicious menu. I have come here several times for dates and family dinners out to celebrate. I believe on one family celebration we meet the owner who was absolutely hilarious. He is a character in himself. He checked on us and thanked us for coming. I've never had a bad experience with their servers. They are always so friendly and able to answer my questions about the seasonal menu and the specials. FOOD: I am always looking out for their specials. I believe their menu rotates seasonally which I love because it takes advantage of what's in season. My husband's go to is the Pappardelle alla Bolognese (housemade ribbon pasta, meat sauce) For a lighter pasta I like to get Orecchiette with Sausage and Broccoli Rabe from their specials. I always recommend going with house made pasta! Another special I've had is the Cavatelli di Grano Integrale con Ragu D`Agnello-housemade whole wheat shells, lamb ragu. Been to Vite many times and have always had the most amazing meals. What inspired this review was not only their Kobe beef meatballs, which are perfection, but their seasonal Agnolotti Al Limone. Homemade pasta, Ricotta, Mascarpone and Lemon zest in a lemon sauce. Go and get it NOW before it leaves the menu to make way for the Pumpkin Tortolloni. It is an amazing blend of perfect flavor. With so much great food in Astoria I always forget about this place. Tucked away on a corner off 31st ave, Vite looks small and unassuming, but it's probably some of the best Italian food I've had while living here the past decade and a half. Their pasta is made in house, and their specials change with the seasons to really focus on seasonal ingredients. Still, they have the staples you'd want to see on a classic Italian menu (meatballs, linguini with clam sauce, and even some pizzas). Servers here know their stuff and are happy to explain anything on the menu as well as make recommendations. We kicked things off with a rice ball stuffed with spinach and mozzarella which was crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside. My date had the pumpkin tortelloni for his main, which I can only describe as a dessert pasta. If you love pasta and have a sweet tooth, this is probably the dish for you. I went with the cavatelli and lamb ragu which was excellent -- meaty and filling, with perfectly made fresh pasta. I suppose I shouldn't be too annoyed at Delta Airlines for delaying my flight so many times that I gave up and booked a flight for the following morning, which gave me the opportunity to discover Vite Vinosteria! It's a cozy space (although as a single diner, I was stuck in the corner by the coat rack and restrooms), with great food and service. My date got the pappardelle bolognese. I tried a bite. Both dishes were good but a little heavy. Wish it came with some fresh veg or salad. Everything felt a bit heavy and saucy. Even the octopus came on a bed of white bean purée, so another creamy sauce saucy base. Portions were not huge for the price but since it was pretty heavy, it's very filling. For dessert, got the pistachio and chocolate gelato. It was not mind blowing in my opinion, but perfectly fine. Service was very friendly and charming. Italian language lessons playing overhead in the bathroom was fun. I absolutely love Italian food and this place does an amazing job with all of their food. This cute Italian restaurant nestled in Astoria is a great date night restaurant. It's very small, which makes it very intimate. The service here is absolutely fabulous. I came here for date night on a Friday evening and the place was 90% full, however our waiter, along with the rest of the staff, made sure we were having a good experience and we were enjoying all of our food. For our appetizer we ordered the charcuterie board, we couldn't decide between the cheese and meat board, so our waiter let us know that we can do board with half of each. While we waited for our appetizer to come out, we were brought a basket of wine with their special spicy olive oil. I was a HUGE fan of the olive oil, it had just the right amount of spice and it was a nice to treat to have with the bread, which seems to be made fresh. The charcuterie board was sooooo good! It came with salami, prosciutto and another meat which I wasn't too fond of, as well as three different cheeses, which all were tasty. When our waiter came to our table and saw that everything was eaten accept for the third meat he apologized to us. We let him know that it was just a preference thing and not something that needed an apology, but the gesture was extremely nice. For my meal I ordered the Agnolotti al Limon, which was a beautiful green pasta which was stuffed with mascarpone over a lemon sauce. The brightness of the green pasta again lemon sauce made this plate look STUNNING. The mascarpone was light and creamy and the lemon sauce was just the touch to make the pasta a great combination of sweet and savory. My boyfriend ordered the Cavatelli di Grano Integrale, which was a pasta made in a delicious meat sauce. The pasta is homemade, which makes it that much better! The portions of both plates were great and we definitely had some leftover. We didn't plan on ordering dessert, but our waiter surprised us with a wonderful tiramisu. He gave it to us complimentary to make up for the meat we didn't like in our charcuterie board. We told him he didn't have to do that and thanked him a bunch of times. He was a great waiter! I came here with a friend to have some glasses of wine and a quick bite. The place was cute and it was not crowded at all, being a Thursday night. We ordered the wine right away and we got an arancini and a truffle pizza. Pizza was pretty good and surprisingly cheesy, and the arancini was good too, but the waiter was trying to convince me that the original Sicilian arancini is made with spinach. Spoiler: it's not. Bambara all'aglio or the garlic shrimp had a hint too much of an herb or spice that I can't place. The picante pizza would've been better for my palate with less Gorgonzola as it was overly pungent. The pappardalle bolognese was delicious but the texture of the pasta felt like it was made with too much egg. Despite the discord between my taste and the dishes, they were cooked well, decent presentation, and good portions for the price. The service was a bit lacking in the beginning. The hostess wanted to seat us two at tiny tables meant for cocktails or a table by the bathroom despite a near empty restaurant around 3:30pm. We must've waited a solid 15 minutes for her to take our order; a very long time when you're hungry. The appetizers took another 15 minutes. She must've been covering as the other server seemed to be busy with the other two tables. The decor is very nice. The ornaments and artifacts on the walls, wood panels, red leather, and step up to the next set of tables create a nice atmosphere for a date night. Another spot that's been on my list for a while. I'm such a fan of great Italian food and this place had such a cozy vibe. We went last Friday night when it was pretty cold out. We arrived around 7pm and even though they don't take reservations we were happy to find seating fairly easily at that time (one hour later it started to get a lot more crowded). The restaurant itself isn't super huge and there's seating both indoors and in an enclosed outdoor area with heating. Our waitress gave us menus and brought over the specials of the day handwritten out on a chalkboard. Upon examining everything, we decided to get the tuna tartare special appetizer, my bf got the special pasta: linguini with calamari and branzino ragu, and I ordered the tagliatelle nero (squid ink seafood pasta). The tuna tartare was served on some avocado cream and with toasted slices of bread. This tuna tartare tasted fairly different from the type of tartare you get in Japanese restaurants. The brightness from the citrus came through and it was balanced. The pieces of tuna were a bit chunkier which gave the dish some body especially on top of the toasted bread. We were quite pleased with the appetizer. As for our entrees, these were both served in metal pans as a vessel. The Nero was exactly what I was craving and the flavors all came together very nicely. There was no briny taste to the squid ink pasta and the calamari was very tender and not chewy. I loved this pasta and would get it again in a heartbeat. Meanwhile my bf enjoyed his pasta as well. The calamari in his meal had a different texture than mine but he liked it as well. We'd never experienced branzino ragu and this was a red sauce (as expected). The fish was sort of broken up into the sauce which was interesting. Tasty but we both agreed that my pasta was better! For dessert, we shared the tiramisu which arrived in a glass container with some Nutella on the side. While lovely, the tiramisu honestly didn't need the Nutella since it was delicious on its own. If I was rating just on the food alone, this place was great. However, while we were there unfortunately we noticed a few incidents in the service department. While our waitstaff was very nice, the restaurant lost a person's credit card from the table next to us and a waiter knocked over some wine and spilled (though this happens) at the table on our other side. Normally, I'd say I can't judge other's experience as my own but when we left I asked for my leftovers to be packed and they were never brought to our table. I realized this soon after leaving and quickly called the restaurant to ask and was told it was never packed and likely thrown out. This was extremely disappointing given that the food was so enjoyable. Somehow service was a miss that night though more from a non attentive standpoint as opposed to rudeness or any other issues. I'd come back and give them another chance especially because there are other items on the menu I'd like to try but just be wary that they could have an off night service wise. read more

We ordered an Arancino short rib with Parmesan as an appetizer and our first round of drinks were an elderflower gimlet and a boulevardier. Then we ordered a pasta and pizza to share; cavatelli with lamb ragu and a piccante pizza. Now this is why this place gets a solid 4 stars. To finish off we ordered a second round of drinks; an aperol spritz and a Negroni. They took forever and a day to get. The place wasn't even packed for that to be an excuse because when we complained that we had already been waiting 10 minutes, our drinks came not even 5 minutes later. Last night was the 3rd time I've been here but this time I bought my mom to celebrate her birthday. We were torn between sitting inside or out since it was perfect weather at 8PM. Ultimately, we chose to sit inside & there was a wonderful little breeze coming in. This place is a cozy spot without the feeling of being on top of each other. Very charming, rustic decor. I am so happy they have the outdoor seating area, it truly expands the restaurant. They only have one unisex bathroom which is completely understandable due to their limited inside space. It's clean & spacious - I think it's hilarious & unique there is a speaker dictating Italian phrases with their translations as opposed to music. For the first time ever, using the facilities has turned out to be an educational adventure. Haha Okok I'm getting to the food. My go to is always the Linguine alle Vingole - it's fresh & delicious- I usually pair with a red but I'm always tempted to have a glass of Rośe when it's nice out. They have plenty of wine selections but only one Rośe option - good enough, it did the trick. My bf opted for the Gold Rush cocktail which is rare but it was so yummy! Very well done & it wasn't overpowering but subtle & refreshing. He had the 24oz steak with Brussels sprouts, spinach and potatoes which was from the "Todays Special" menu. (That man was hungry as hell.) Everything was very well seasoned and while he prefers the steak intact so it preserves its juices or whatever, I greatly appreciated they prepared it pre-cut. With a steak that big I have no idea why he wants to sit there and cut the thing like it's manual labor. Men. *eye roll* My mom had the chicken which was very tender & also delicious - we all shared & were very happy with our choices. Although we were full to our hearts content & had massive food coma, I could NOT resist ordering the Nutella Tiramisu. Holy shit that dessert is epic. Best tiramisu I've had. It's light, creamy, decadent but not where you feel like you're literally forming cavities as you're devouring it. Devour it I did. I practically made love to it with the way I was closing my eyes & moaning. It was absolutely absurd & quite frankly, embarrassing. Service was wonderful & attentive. Very kind. Come here on a whim with my BFF on my fall NYC trip and it was perfect. This was before omicron, and it was packed. We opted for an outside table as the weather was not too cold. Granted everything was amazing, I opted for the ragu and my BFF went with the gnocchi with pancetta and fava beans (yes I did think of Hannibal Lecter when I saw it). I don't have a sweet touch, so the creamy sauce was a little sweet for me but overall still good. For two, with a charcuterie board and pasta (bread to start), we were stuffed. Portions are sizeable and we had leftovers the next day. Service: 4.5/5 (I think there was only 1 server that night) Food: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 read more

A recent impromptu visit to Vite Vinosteria had my party sitting at the bar for a drink. The bartender was very pleasant and made a decent espresso martini. The ambiance of the place was nice and we were allowed to talk and socialize. read more

I made a huge mistake in having something to eat elsewhere first before deciding to look for a wine bar for a nightcap, a decision that brought me here. I instantly liked the vibe of this neighborhood restaurant and was drawn in not just by the bar staff, but also some of the patrons who confided they lived in the neighborhood and were regulars. Then I proceeded to watch a procession of gorgeous dishes coming out of the kitchen which exited but feet from the small bar. God, what an awful mistake I made! LOL. Had a chance to chat all things Italian vino with the bartender who seemed pretty knowledgeable, even gave me a few samples of what we were discussing. After two glasses I left vowing to return, and proceeded the two lines and 10-12 subway stops back to my airbnb. Two nights later I was beat and the thought crossed my mind to return, but I opted for something much closer, which, while good, never captured my mind like Vite Vinosteria. So, I vow to fully dine here on my next trip to Queens. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Don't make the mistake I did! read more
