Had the most amazing meal here last night with the girls before heading out for the holidays, and it truly exceeded every expectation. The space is quaint and cozy, but what really made the night unforgettable was the hospitality, especially Grissel. From the moment we sat down, she made us feel genuinely cared for. Her knowledge of the menu, thoughtful recommendations, and ability to read the table were next-level. We all had different tastes and interests, and she somehow managed to guide us perfectly without ever feeling rushed or scripted. I honestly can't remember the last time we all felt so welcomed and celebrated at a restaurant. The food was outstanding across the board. The bruschetta was simple, fresh, and easily the best I've had. I ordered the rigatoni with vodka sauce (add chicken), and if you're lucky enough to hear about the vodka sauce, don't hesitate. Every dish at the table impressed: ravioli, clams, risotto, and eggplant pomodoro with shrimp. All big hits. Even the chef stopped by at one point to share recommendations, which made the experience feel even more special and personal. Came here for happy hour after hearing so many great things about Il Nonno, and it didn't disappoint. You get so much bang for your buck at this place. We started off with the truffle fries and bruschetta. Bruschetta was fresh and delicious, fries were hot, crispy and well seasoned. For drinks, we had the sangria which was huge and strong - a steal at $8 in my opinion. We each had their rigatoni vodka for $12 - portions were very generous given the price. The sauce was flavorful, pasta was cooked perfectly. The ambiance of this place is very romantic, great for a date night. Service was also fast and friendly. I was surprised that it wasn't more packed during happy hour given how good of a deal this all is. This place is the definition of a hidden gem. We came on a Wednesday and it was slow but the service and food were excellent. Our server, I believe her name was Raina was excellent and gracious. I had a shrimp and pasta dish with a limoncello cream sauce. Then I had branzino filets in a piccata sauce. Both dishes were excellent. Fish very fresh. My son had the bucatini with pancetta and cream sauce. My daughter in law had the penne with salmon in a spicy tomato sauce. All good. The restaurant is small but the food and service were big. While having friends over at our place, we spontaneously decided to go out for Italian food. It was Saturday night and we were a group of 5 who are all vegetarian, so we were very grateful to find that Il Nonno had room for us AND a decent amount of vegetarian options to choose from. The inside is very small with very few tables available, so we ended up sitting outdoors. They had three 2-top tables out there which they quickly pushed together to make one big table for the 5 of us. The weather was super nice and they had string lights hung up above the tables, so it was such a nice ambiance. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana (my all time favorite dish) while everyone else in the group ordered pastas to share. Spaghetti, Pesto Ravioli (weekend special) and another weekend special which was Gnocchi with some kind of white sauce. When my Eggplant Parmigiana was brought out, I was confused. It looked like lasagna, so I asked the guy who brought it out (who was not our server) to please double check. Turns out, it WAS the correct dish. I bit into it and was immediately unhappy. I'm used to enjoying a crispy, breaded eggplant slathered with tomato sauce and cheese....and this was NOT that. It was gooey and a much softer texture than I'm used to, which was unpleasant. I'm big on texture when it comes to food, so I knew I wouldn't be able to eat this. Thankfully, our server saw the unpleasant look on my face (can't hide my feelings, unfortunately!) and offered to replace it with something else. I had taken a few bites of the Pesto Ravioli, so I opted to switch it for that. While I'm disappointed that my favorite dish is "technically" not served here, the food and service overall was great. Celebrated my birthday here last night and was able to enjoy the incredible restaurant week menu they had to offer. Caesar salad was amazing, super fresh! I just came across this little Italian gem in Astoria while looking for new places to try! So naturally, me and my wife we had to check this place out and what a better way to check it out then to go and have a delicious dinner the same day ! To start off this place is very welcoming and the staff is amazing, attentive and very, very helpful! I started out with the days special which was a stuffed goat cheese eggplant rollatini and it surely did not disappoint! The flavor was amazing and well worth it! My wife got the caprese di bufala which she really enjoyed as well! Now for the main dish I got the roasted salmon with honey pistachio and mustard crust served with broccoli rabe. The flavor and everything was there, simply amazing. I could easily eat this each time I come here! As for the dessert, there was no way I was leaving without trying the tiramisu! I was honestly blown away by the flavor, probably hands-down the best tiramisu I had in years ! Also the tiramisu is made here on premise by their chef. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU ARE A CELIAC. I ordered a plate of risotto, and specifically mentioned that I cannot eat gluten. When it arrived, I took a bite and saw that there was some cooked spaghetti mixed in it. We were the only table in the restaurant, and my friend had ordered penne, so I have no idea how spaghetti got into the risotto. I would have appreciated an apology from the chef (I've worked in restaurants for years, I know it's the least he could have done) but he did nothing to restore confidence. Il nonno wouldn't be pleased. This place is a real NO NO. We made a reservation for 8pm which we changed to 7:30 about an hour earlier because we realized we could make it to dinner earlier. That time slot, among many others, was available. When we arrived, we were met with panicked glances because our table wasn't ready. Instead, we were sat at the bar where we perused a drink menu. We ordered drinks and waited, and waited, and waited some more. We finally received the two cocktails we ordered a half hour later, as our table was finally opening up. I will say, the autumn spritz sounds amazing on paper but was so sweet it was making me nauseated. A little after 8pm: We ordered an appetizer as well as our entrees at our table. We were not offered more drinks or water. We eventually get the app (prosciutto & burrata) and then our entrees arrived. Our drinks were empty but no one thought to come by and ask if we wanted more drinks. In terms of food I'd like to note my lasagne was COLD already. I suspect they made mine first before his (a pistachio pesto special dish that probably needed to be made fresh). We finally got the attention of a server and got a bottle of wine. Yay? Food was fine; absolutely nothing special about it. We also ordered dessert (tiramisu)! We were already over it at this point and not too pleased. All this while the table behind us (a walk in couple, mind you) got comped food from the kitchen staff. Unfortunately, they fell flat--literally and figuratively. The tiramisu flavor was disappointingly bland, lacking the rich coffee and mascarpone punch I've had at places like Eataly or even Trader Joe's. Thankfully, the Omelette (6.5/10) was decent enough to salvage the meal. I found myself eating it just to wash away the underwhelming aftertaste of the pancakes. I forced myself to finish them to avoid waste, but it was a struggle. The restaurant itself was oddly empty--we'd made a reservation, but not a single other table was occupied during my entire visit. The staff weren't rude, but they seemed more focused on their own conversations than bringing over the check. Look, I don't like being harsh, but when you travel for a specialty dish and end up wishing you'd just gone to a grocery store instead, it's hard not to feel let down. While visiting our daughter & her boyfriend in Astoria, we ate at Il Nonno for lunch. We chose the restaurant because they were participating in Restaurant Week and we will ABSOLUTELY eat there again. I have several food restrictions and the chef and waitress were the most accommodating I have EVER experienced. The chef actually created a special sauce for my salmon in order to accommodate my dairy free & gluten free food restrictions. Also, the hostess & waitress, Grissel, was absolutely delightful. Lovely intimate Italian restaurant. One of my favorite Italian restaurant by far. Restaurant is about two months old and caught our eye. Everything we had was delicious from the appetizers to the dessert. The tiramisu was to die for. Best tiramisu I have had by far. The service was also amazing. For appetizer I had the mozzarella bruschetta, it was delicious and refreshing. I had the Cornish hen for my main plate. The hen was amazing. This new intimate Italian restaurant is the coziest place ever and it's a spot i will definitely be a regular at. The food feels homey and delicious. Service was great and i enjoyed everything i had. We went during their happy hour which is Monday - Friday from 4-7 and they have happy hour for food and drinks!! The cocktails are a must try. If you like watermelon or just a refreshing light cocktail, get the watermelon margarita. I drank it so easily. Espresso martini was also delicious and different from the ones i usually have. The calamari and meatball appetizers stood out and are definitely a must get. Calamari is perfect crispy and the meatballs didn't feel too dense or overpowered by red sauce. Out of all the entrees i tried, i liked the wild boar pappardelle and the steak dish the most. Will definitely be trying other new dishes though next time. This is a great addition to the neighborhood and i hope they get more attention because they definitely deserve it read more

Although they messed up on the day we arrived undercooking my lamb chops, Il Nonno has so much potential to become one of the best Italian restaurants in Astoria like Vesta. They are a little smaller than Vesta, which gives them more of a romantic atmosphere, and there is a lot of potential for them to grow in the neighborhood with a very romantic feel to the dining area. On the day we arrived, the restaurant was still finding its way. Our server was kind of friendly, yet a little more reserved, but overall, they are worth checking out. These are early days so hiring the right chef and wait staff seems to be a work in progress for them. I really wanted to love this place after seeing this place all over IG, but unfortunately my experience was a bit underwhelming. We started off with wine, which was excellent, and the calamari was a highlight! Perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My lasagna was another win, with a generous portion and plenty of cheesy goodness. However, the rest of the meal didn't quite live up to expectations. My friend ordered the Linguine Nero, and it was a letdown. The pasta was overcooked, although we were told that was because the pasta was fresh? She swapped it for the Porcini Ravioli, which was another disappointment. It had absolutely no filling. I couldn't even believe it. It was like eating regular pasta with truffle sauce on top. We tried to salvage it by adding salt and extra parm but it still felt pretty bland. We also asked for red pepper flakes, but the waitress added them herself-- way more than she wanted. I feel like that's something the customer should be able to do on their own. It seemed like one of the owners was there but never came over to check on us, even after we returned the meal. It felt like we were overlooked, which was disappointing considering how small the restaurant is. While I'm glad to see a new spot in the area, for the price, I expected a lot more--flavor, attention to detail, and better service. One of the Worst Delivery Experiences I've Ever Had I was completely misled by positive Google reviews and made the mistake of ordering from Il Nono Astoria for a small dinner gathering. We placed a delivery order through Uber Eats, which included raw seafood items (tuna tartare, carpaccio) and ice cream. Nearly an hour after ordering, I was contacted by the restaurant--not Uber--telling me to ask the bicycle delivery driver (already five minutes from my home) to return to the restaurant to retrieve a missing item. Completely absurd, especially with raw seafood and ice cream already in the bag. After a long back-and-forth, they claimed they would send the missing food separately. Another 45 minutes passed--nothing arrived. No follow-up from the restaurant. Instead, I was informed by Uber that the missing food wouldn't be coming at all. We were left with a table of hungry guests and one of the most disappointing meals I've had in Queens. * The linguine with clam sauce tasted like cheap chicken bouillon. Pasta was undercooked. * The carpaccio arrived brown and soggy--completely unappetizing. * The tuna tartare smelled fishy, went straight into the trash. * The burrata and gelato? Melted and ruined. To top it all off, the restaurant stopped answering their phone once we tried to follow up. Total lack of professionalism. I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. The restaurant is located in a great area in Astoria. Great ambiance, and a very intimate feel. From the moment we were greeted at the door, the staff provided us with spectacular service. Our server Samantha, and the owner Alfredo were very attentive and made sure to give us the best experience possible. The food was excellent. The appetizers (meatballs, calamari, and artichoke) were delicious, as were the entrees (Le Lasagna, Pollo alla Milanese, Bucatini Carbonara). The portions were perfect, and the taste was by far the best that I've ever had. Of course, we could not leave without trying a few desserts. We wanted to go out for dinner but we wanted to try the Tuna tartare, It was delicious, Gris made the ambience welcoming so we decided to have a Don julio margarita and a Beef carpaccio, it was also amazing. For dinner we had the Bistecca di manzo, nicely cooked medium rare with broccoli rabe. We dont really like dessert but wanted to try the tiramisu with a shot of Frangelico and it was Phenomenal!! Pasta, al dente. Sauce, out of this world. Vibes, off the charts. Il Nonno is such a breath of fresh (basil-filled) air. Last night, I stopped in with my friends for dinner. The ambiance was laidback and welcoming yet the staff was so attentive. Hard balance to strike in a restaurant. And now..the food. More than once--after one side of the table tried a dish and implored the other to try, our eyes met in total food joy. "Oh my gah...this is SO good" was uttered too many times to count. Now let's get to the nitty, gritty. Our picks: Porcini ravioli (homemade pasta, phenomenal) Seafood risotto (menu says it's in a light tomato sauce. Definitely light, but it's far more flavorful than what I consider "light tomato sauce") Pasta Bolognese (another handmade wonder, lusciously complex sauce). Pasta Siciliana this one has eggplant and ricotta in a ROBUST sauce. Squid Ink Seafood Pasta was out of control. Like I need more savory adjectives in my life to describe this adequately. Apps. We loved all equally, but I mean calamari fritti is a no-brainer here and I literally had to slap the bread out of one friend's hand because she'd say she was full but relentlessly dipped more and more bread into the white wine mussels broth! The tuna carpaccio was almost too pretty to eat buuuut...we scarfed it down. Finally, Dessert. Chocolate cake (go with me here...you could smell the warm chocolate as it approached the table, incredible). Tiramisu, not too sweet, not too "damp"...perfection. And quite possibly even better than the banging food, we were lucky enough to chat up the delightful owner who introduced us to the chef (who happened to come from a VERY well-known Italian restaurant in Manhattan)! The tartare was bursting with flavor, and the calamari was perfectly crispy with a light, delicious breading. I went for the Pollo alla Martini. The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the sauce was pure magic, all accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes! My date feasted on the Bistecca di Manzo and loved every bite. The four of us ordered some cocktails- you've gotta try the red bell pepper cocktail, it's really one of the most unique cocktails I've ever had (it it was described by my friend as a "long journey of flavor!). We started with the burrata (yummy!) and I ordered the eggplant Parmesan. The eggplant was cooked really well and I enjoyed it a lot- though it wasn't a ton of food.
