Came here for brunch this past weekend. The space is a plus: tables are spacious and well spread out, so it doesn't feel cramped. There was only one server working the floor, but with just two tables occupied, service was quick and attentive. Hard to say how it'd hold up on a busier day. The food was a mixed bag -- some hits, some middle-of-the-road. The burrata was one of the better plates. Creamy and fresh, a solid start to the meal. The truffle fries also landed well -- crisp, and the truffle came through without being overpowering. The lasagna was the weak point. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either -- nothing about it stood out enough to recommend. Dessert was the high note. The "Baby Jesus" is genuinely decadent -- rich and indulgent, the kind of thing worth saving room for. One letdown: no mocktails on the menu. How have I never reviewed this gem before? I absolutely love Vesta. It's a cute and cozy place with super chill vibes and an atmosphere that can't be beat when you're in the mood for a glass of wine on a slow night to catch up with a friend. (And that's what I usually do since she lives around the corner, lol.) The appetizers are appealing and always delicious - it's usually what we stick to ordering - the Meat & Cheese board, the meatballs and also of course steamed mussels. I think they also have a brunch menu, which I'd like to try soon. The service is also great - the staff is always patient, never rushes us and is always pleasant. Ate at Vesta with my family years ago, and we decided to revisit the place. Had reservations on a Saturday evening for a party of 6. We were running a little late and called the restaurant, but we got there within 15 minutes of the reservation and were seated promptly. The place was relatively empty when we got there toward the opening of dinner service, but quickly filled up as the evening progressed. There's not a very extensive menu, basically one page of food and one page of drinks, but they put together a nice variety of options. We ordered a few glasses of wine, including from the wine on tap, which were great. Ordered several apps, most of which were large enough to share with everyone: burrata (fresh and creamy, which we piled onto the accompanying toast), steamed mussels (couldn't stop dipping the garlic crostini in the flavorful broth), and baked shrimp & calamari (the seafood was tender, and the sauce had a little kick to it and was great for dipping the toasted sourdough in). Two of my sisters ordered individual apps: carrot & ginger soup (came out piping hot and had a well-balanced flavor), and the spring salad (the ingredients were so fresh, especially the tomatoes). For my main dish, I ordered the gnocchi. The gnocchi was a little firm, but the sauce was flavorful and the braised rabbit lent the dish a mild meaty taste. My sisters had the wild boar lasagna (packs a flavorful punch) and the pasta special, spaghetti al limone (my sister liked it, but said she wasn't wowed enough to order it again). My BIL had the braised meatballs, usually an appetizer, as his main dish. It came with three tender, flavorful meatballs in a slightly spicy tomato sauce. My parents had the half roasted chicken and the pan seared striped bass, which they both immensely enjoyed. We all saved room for our favorite dessert: the Baby Jesus cake. If you love sticky toffee pudding, then this is the dessert for you. It is divine. We also got the house-made gelato, which comes with three scoops. We got one of each flavor: vanilla (plenty of vanilla bean flecks and tasted like it had honey in it), strawberry (a little tart, but with the right amount of sweetness), and cinnamon (my favorite flavor, nice warming spice). The souffle al cioccolato came out nice and hot, wasn't too sweet, and had a rich chocolate flavor. It was a wonderful ending to a delicious dinner. Service was great from start to finish. They were helpful with answering questions, refilling water, clearing off plates, and checking in on us every so often. They also have one bathroom that is cat themed (as a cat lady, this made me love this place even more). You can even upload your cat's pics to be shared on the digital display via a QR code. The romesco sauce, sorrel pesto & crostini all went together nicely. However, the Agnolotti wasn't to my liking, it looked like ravioli and it was overpowered with cheese. The parmesean, ricotta, mascarpone with white win and butter sauce was really too much altogether. Tried their pizza called the Diavolo, which has fresh mozzarella, provolone, hot soppressata and spicy maple syrup. The texture of the bread wasn't too my liking. The dough didn't have enough texture so the bread and the crust were flat. It definitely didn't hit the spot. However, the dessert which were 3 scoops of gelato did hit the spot. My friend wanted Italian and I'm a brunch girl so I found Vesta on Yelp that offered food that would satisfy both. We were immediate seated upon arrival given it was early afternoon. The place is humble and has a home feel to the place. Our waiter quickly came by and brought us a bottle of water & cups. He returned a few minutes later and took our order. The food swiftly came and it looked delicious! Given my avoidance for carbs I tried the egg calabrese with ricotta. I was delightfully surprised how good it was. The flavors blended well and the broccoli rabe and ricotta was a nice contrast with eggs. Definitely would order again. Overall great food and service. The place was small and cozy. This was such a random find - we were hungry and in the area. We sat at the bar, and we were quick to be greeted. People were all chatting amongst each other but it was pretty much a familiar vibe. I think there were some regulars. The food selection sounded yummy but unfortunately we had to wait a really long time for our entrees. We were not told what happened, and the people next to us received their food earlier even though one of them ordered the same I did and they arrived later. It was worth the wait though. The team just apologized even if we did not complain (things happen!). Both pastas were delicious and our appetizer's pesto felt incredibly fresh. At around $30-35 a person, the dishes definitely matched the pricing point. There is a tight and high quality menu that still manages to express such a variety of unique and delicious options, of which the staff helped us navigate. We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary focaccia with oil--it was a nice start to our meal. For our appetizer, we went with the braised meatballs, which were delicious. We then shared the diavolo pizza and the gnocchi. The pizza, with its thin crust and the kick from the spicy maple syrup, was an instant favorite for me. I was so delighted to be able to grab an early dinner at Vesta while watching one of their wine tasting events. The ambiance and decor were so cozy and I loved the space. I was a solo diner and really appreciated how welcoming and warm the staff were! As a visitor, they made me feel like a member of the community. Even though this part of Astoria hasn't quite gentrified as some would have predicted (#1), I still think Vesta's gamble by investing in this area has paid off. After a decade of being one of the more consistent Italian themed eateries in Astoria, they've made a name for themselves as one of the most recognizable in the borough. Their small'ish setup is nothing short of charming; ideal for dates and smaller groups and they take reservations. The place is minimal but clean and since the pandemic started, they've also pivoted to a solid outdoor setup. While I typically prefer coming here for brunch, their dinner service is probably the better of the two. (#2) I've always appreciated their super simple menu. There is a limited selection of appetizers, pizzas, pastas, some seasonal entrees and veggie sides. Their short rib ragu pappardelle is damn good and quite possibly my favorite dish in the house. I also have high regard for their orecchiette, which has bits of italian pork sausage, swiss chard, with dill and garlic. From the entrees, I'd give the nod to their wild boar lasagna and the pork shank osso bucco. Both are fantastic, even if the portions are a *widdle* on the small side. The brunch is incredibly underrated in my opinion. The avocado toast is beautiful and the carbonara mac and cheese is as tasty as it is indulgent. I have enjoyed their incredibly thin crust hangover pizza, which is essentially breakfast pizza with potato bacon, sausage, and baked eggs over some spicy tomato and provolone. It's an easy dish to share, as is all of their pizzas really. Service is usually pretty good for the most part. I always am impressed with the bartenders for slinging out drinks left and right, considering how extensive their wine collection is. They have also done a very good job with delivery and takeout, which is not an easy during these times. This establishment is one of my local favorite spots to dine! although it is a little off the beaten path it is worth hoping in a cab for. The inside of the restaurant is so charming it has a quite cozy vibe! It truly is the perfect date night spot. I love the menu of food and wine selection I have never had anything bad on the menu!
