I really enjoy coming to Botte, which is why I feel compelled to share how disappointing our last visit was. We arrived around 8:00pm last Friday to an empty dining room and were seated immediately by the bartender, who may also be the owner. A few minutes later, another customer came in and sat at the bar. From that point on, the experience went downhill. The bartender focused his full attention on that guest and appeared far more interested in engaging with her than in serving the only occupied table in the restaurant (us). When he eventually approached us to take our order, his demeanor was standoffish and impatient. He removed our menus before we even had the opportunity to order drinks to accompany our dinner. His attitude made it clear that he did not want to be bothered with us. After some time, our actual server came to the floor, delivered our appetizers, and placed our drink order. He was attentive, professional, and ultimately the only redeeming aspect of the evening. While I understand that the bartender may not have been primarily responsible for our table, he made it apparent that his priority was his regular patrons, not new or less familiar guests. By 8:30pm, the restaurant became filled with what appeared to be their usual diners. I overheard the bartender and server sharing the evening's dinner specials with other patrons. At no point were those specials mentioned to us. We felt uncomfortable and chose to finish our meal quickly. The food was excellent, and I genuinely value having such a great restaurant so close to us. However, the service left a lasting negative impression. We felt dismissed and mistreated simply because we were not regulars. If we encounter the same individual behind the bar in the future, we will choose to dine elsewhere. read more

One of the best local bars in Astoria. It does an authentic imitation of an Italian cafe and bar because...the owner is Italian. The bartender is also from Italy, and everything is crafted with care as the Italians do! The meatball app was small in size but very tasty, and made for great food to balance your drinking. The cocktails are smooth, strong, and fair for the price. The bartender also invented a cocktail while we sat at the bar for happy hour, a version of an espresso martini. Delicious! My husband had the pizza and I tried it and it's nothing crazy but I loved my pesto pasta! We also had the calamari which was also solid! The sauce it came with was so good. Food: I ordered the suppli - which is essentially an arancini! It's al dente but very good and extremely filling. It also has a spiciness to it which is great. Then I had the gnocchi as my main and the portion size is huge and it is super flavorful! It melts in your mouth. I would love to try some of the other pastas. Came here on a Saturday evening and reserved for two but honestly for two people, reservations are probably not necessary (still make one just in case). We were really looking forward to our night out -- a monthly dinner tradition for our group of moms -- and while the food itself was quite good, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. We made a reservation for 8:15, and we're seated almost immediately despite coming a few minutes late. Small little place, the indoor area was pretty cold, and the windows were open to the outside so the ac and the breeze outside were all kicking in. The lighting in the table is intimate. Dim lighting, small lamp bright enough to read the menu but not bright enough to see the stains on your bf's shirt. We got the carbonara, gnocchi alla sorrentina with chicken, and the Pomodoro bruschetta. I found the portion size to be quite small for $18 entrées. After finishing the appetizer and the entrée, I felt mildly(?) full and I'm petite! The size of carbonara was like a double ice cream scoop, easily devour-able. Strong flavors in both entrees. We liked the bruschetta! Toasted and extra crunchy, with a side of bread (not toasted). The sangria was alright, I liked it - more on the sour side and not too strong. The tables were pretty small, I felt like I was going to knock the pitcher of water over and there was barely enough room to put anything more than 1 dish on the table. The bellboy/waiters kept coming by to take our dishes away (almost immediately) once we finished. Food did feel like it took some time to come, but it was super hot when it arrived. I've never even heard of this place until my friend suggested it to me. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. It's not a big place, so reservations should be made. It's definitely not for those who have more than 4 people in their party. They only have one gender less bathroom, too, so be wary of that. I did glance at the menu online prior to heading to the restaurant. They did have a drink menu, but I didn't see any mocktails. However, we did ask, and they had one which was strawberry flavored. It was a bit too sweet, so I probably wouldn't order that again. I eyed the Diavola pizza which I chose as it had tomatoes, marinara, chili, spicy salami, and mozzarella. It didn't really look good, but it was delicious. We also ordered the carpacci. The first one in that section is Carpaccio di Polpo - thinly sliced Octopus in lemon dressing, and that's what I got for the table. I didn't like it too much as I hardly tasted or saw the Octopus. I tasted a cold salad and some ice chips. It was strange. I didn't like the pasta that was ordered either. Cacio e pepe was ordered, and in it was spaghetti with cheese and black pepper. The flavoring wasn't what I expected, I had to add a lot of red pepper flakes to this dish. Last but not least, we ordered the tiramisu. It was good! It reminds me of this place that used to be opened in the city called Vapianos. 10/10 The staff has never messed up my order and they pack everything nicely. If I could put no stars I would. I ordered a pasta and it was sooooo watery. I couldn't finish it bc it was just a puddle half way through. But the worst part was the power went out during a heat wave. This caused a longer wait for our food. We were sitting all sticky the entire time. AND THEN we asked for the check twice and only on the second time they told us cash only bc the power went out. So we said we have no cash and they told us to go to the deli pay the $5 service charge on the atm so I can pay the bill. My poor husband had to walk in this 99 degree weather to the chase blocks away. We asked for a discount and they gave us a BULL SHIT answer. My friend and I visited here just this evening! When I arrived I didn't know how tight it was. The place is small but looking at some of the pictures, the food looked absolutely delicious! This place is cozy, friendly and welcoming. While waiting outside for friends, the Uruguayan waiter opened the door with a beckoning smile and playfully asked me to step inside and have a seat at the bar at least! I opted to wait for my friends, but it was hard to resist that hospitality. The bar holds about ten seats comfortably, with an area off the bar that can seat four. The restaurant side holds about 5-6 tables with mixed booth and chair seats. The corners of the booth is where anyone with sense would want to sit. However, the place is small and it would be hard to fit a group larger than five without calling ahead. We tried an assortment of dishes: Carpaccio de pulpo - The octopus was so thin it was almost air, which is on point for an appetizer. Light and refreshing. Avocado e Salmon bruschetta - one of my favorite. Their crusty, delicious bread paired excellently and was still warm. A must. Meatball appetizer - Meatballs were light and fluffy but didn't taste full of filler. Sauce was nice. Only came with three balls. Fettuccine with shrimp and pesto - the pesto was a little watery for my taste and could have used more garlic and pepper. The fresh pasta was delicious and had bite. Worth trying. Ravioli - very simple, rustic dish that came with about five ravioli. A good choice if looking for a small meal. Panna cotta - another favorite! This was light, fruity and full of flavor that danced on my tongue. A must. Tiramisu - definitely rich and packed with caffeine. Good for sharing but proceed with caution if you plan to go to bed soon after. They had a risotto special and a tagliatelle pasta with meat sauce that I didn't try but heard were good. We all gawked at a chicken breast special that another patron ordered so do take a look at the specials board and their happy hour deals. Our Uruguayan waiter was totally happy to answer all of my questions and gave great recommendations, but I'm sure whichever waiter you get will be just as nice. The food portions were adequate but not enough for sharing. Keep that in mind if you like to share dishes or if you plan on arriving famished. The old fashioned I ordered came with rye, bitters, a sweet slice of orange and a classic cherry. It was delicious, smooth and strong. I didn't use the restrooms so I cannot comment on that. This place seems to be thriving even amidst the pandemic, which is great! There's plenty of outdoor space to snag a spot on the sidewalk or the street. We were for sure impressed with the food. I had a delightful order of cacio e pepe, a dish that is really entirely dependent on the quality of the pasta and ingredients, as it's such a simple preparation. It's done right here: al dente pasta, a plethora of fresh cracked pepper, creamy cheese. My fiancé had the baby cod livornese with potatoes, served with a fresh sauce of tomatoes, capers, and olives. This wouldn't normally be my dish of choice as I'm not an olives person, but I had a few non-olive bites and enjoyed them very much. I'm not quite as sold on the drinks. I started with a montepulciano, which was reasonably priced at $9 and served its purpose as a table wine. I was significantly less satisfied with the Viola Negroni (gin, elderflower liqueur, dry vermouth). Too much elderflower was used, making for an unbalanced drink. Ultimately, it tasted too floral and certainly nothing like a Negroni. I don't mean to say anything negative during COVID times, when I know a lot of places are struggling, and to be clear, this is a positive review! I know we'll be back, and I'm looking forward to trying another drink next time that might be more up my alley. read more
