My daughter and I were looking for a new place to try in Astoria; I had a craving for oysters--so Yelp led the way. At first glance, the place is very cozy and intimate--probably not best for bigger parties/groups. I ordered 1/2 dozen oysters and the small meat and cheese board to start. The presentation on both dishes are nice but the graze board could've been accompanied by more bread (2 pieces of bread doesn't seem to be a great ration to the cheese and meat) and would been complimented by either a fruit jam or a grainy mustard. The oysters seemed to be shucked earlier in the day but were not horrid. The drink "better than the alternative" was crafted well; I enjoyed it. My daughter had chicken parm but with vodka sauce which was delightful.. she nearly licked the plate clean! My Alfredo was simple yet satisfying, although the rigatoni had a little more chew than al dente should be. My daughter kindly asked that our server put a candle in my dessert. He came out and joined her to sing happy birthday for me Both our desserts were delectable. We left with no to go boxes and quite thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the service. read more

This place seems to be thriving even amidst the pandemic, which is great! There's plenty of outdoor space to snag a spot on the sidewalk or the street. We were for sure impressed with the food. I had a delightful order of cacio e pepe, a dish that is really entirely dependent on the quality of the pasta and ingredients, as it's such a simple preparation. It's done right here: al dente pasta, a plethora of fresh cracked pepper, creamy cheese. My fiancé had the baby cod livornese with potatoes, served with a fresh sauce of tomatoes, capers, and olives. This wouldn't normally be my dish of choice as I'm not an olives person, but I had a few non-olive bites and enjoyed them very much. I'm not quite as sold on the drinks. I started with a montepulciano, which was reasonably priced at $9 and served its purpose as a table wine. I was significantly less satisfied with the Viola Negroni (gin, elderflower liqueur, dry vermouth). Too much elderflower was used, making for an unbalanced drink. Ultimately, it tasted too floral and certainly nothing like a Negroni. I don't mean to say anything negative during COVID times, when I know a lot of places are struggling, and to be clear, this is a positive review! I know we'll be back, and I'm looking forward to trying another drink next time that might be more up my alley. read more

The happy hour espresso martini is the best way to kickoff the weekend. The reduced price food menu still provides a hearty amount of food. Botte Bar is the cutest neighborhood gem and if I lived in Astoria I'd definitely be a regular. I was in New York for a week and ate here 3 times, so I pretty much am a regular. I ordered food via Uber Eats, so my experience is through that process. Got Spaghetti alla Vodka and Cacio e Pepe spaghetti. For $20 each, I was shocked by the portions. Both pastas were just slightly overcooked for me. Vodka sauce was mid at best. No character, no punch of flavor from either a robust tomato or some acidity from the vodka. It was just- there and pink. Cacio e Pepe was horrible to me. No burst of pepper flavor, no complexity from the cheese- in fact, it has almost an unsavory flavor to me. I couldn't bring myself to eat it, $20 thrown away. I called to ask for extra Parmesan from the restaurant, and the woman who answered the phone was very nice and accommodating. read more

Oof. Either I came on a off day or I didn't order the right dishes. We tried: Uova Alla Garibaldina: simply put a tomato based sauce and eggs - I wasn't a fan of the lack of flavor from this dish it honestly tasted bland and unseasoned On the other hand... Orecchiette Salsiccia e Rapini was so salty we downed a whole cup of water. The Broccoli Rabe tasted like it soaked in all the salt leaving the rest of the dish covered in a salty mess. At least the pasta was cooked al dente. Last but not least the charcuterie board was a pick of 5 and while each meat and cheese tasted great, I'm sad to say this was the highlight of our meal. Small issue (not the restaurant's fault--lets just say the oysters were very very fresh) that the manager saw and apologized for right away. He explained the issue (though I already knew about it and it was not a big deal). They brought out more oysters and then a piece of eggplant parmigiana to try that they had just made. Been here a few times and the food is good but the experience on April 29 evening was terrible. Limited staff but zero communication on how long it would take to get food. Each order took 30min to an HOUR. A charcuterie board does not take 30 min to make at 6pm! People walked out because of the wait for food and the number of times we were told it's coming soon was ludicrous. Nothing was done to appease the group and we spent over way too much money for a terrible experience. The waiter said there were 2 trainees working on a Friday night. TO THE OWNER/MANAGER: why are trainees working on a weekend night?!! Where was any manager overseeing what was going on? If you're trying to expand to multiple locations maybe make sure the quality doesn't go downhill at your original location first. We stopped by Botte Bar for some appetizers and drinks before exploring the area on a recent visit to New York. The place has a great atmosphere and vibe - it feels like a local hotspot but without being too loud, at least on a Monday night. I'm from Houston, and in Houston this would be one of the trendiest style restaurants. The cocktail list was great, especially the Negroni list. Our group went with classic appetizers - calamari, meatballs, mac and cheese, and garlic bread but I also noticed that they have some more substantial items on the menu as well. The meatballs were on point, and calamari was fresh, light, and crispy. My friend said it was the best mac and cheese he'd ever had! We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area. One thing to note is that Suppli is similar to Arancini if that's what you're looking for as an appetizer. Unfortunately, I ordered the medium charcuterie board for $19. It had 6 slices of salami and 6 small pieces of cheese. The meats and cheese tasted like boars head deli products. There were no pieces of bread, or jams/honey. I wish I had taken a picture of the plate. I was absolutely starving, so I ate it, and didn't feel comfortable telling our server that it was an unacceptable dish (especially after I cleaned the plate.) Be careful when you go here... your chair might break underneath you and the staff response is to make a joke, not replace your chair AND charge you for your meal. My server comped a second glass of Chardonnay but that was only after I suggested he do so. I've worked in hospitality. The owner or manager on duty should have come over to see how I was, asked if I wanted an incident report taken, comped my entire meal and brought me a second glass of Chardonnay and offered dessert on the house. Amazing fresh Italian pasta. You can tell this place is homemade real deal. We sat outside with our 6 month old on a cool evening. Such a cute setup outside with music and nice decor. Portions are pretty decent given the $16 per pasta plate. Rigatoni with vodka sauce and chicken- 9/10. Our favorite. It was delectable!!! We asked for extra bread to soak up all that sauce. Fettuchini with pesto and shrimp- 5/10. This we felt was missing some garlic and salt flavor. The pasta was so good however. Bolognese- 10/10. Flavor was outstanding. Definitely recommend!! Nutella tart- not worth $9. You can make this at home lol. But Nutella is always delicious. My husband got a cucumber drink, it was really tasty. The inside is much smaller than I expected, but they have a cute tented outside area as well. Everything was delicious from the appetizers to the entrees to the desserts and the cocktails. I didn't get pics of our drinks, but we tried the Violent Femme and Your My Boy Blue. Both great but if I had to choose one? I'd go for the blue one again! I've never seen that before and prefer to eat oysters with nothing on them. - Chicken Parmesan wasn't good either. My friend said he can make a better one at home. Arugula salad was supposed to have blue cheese but it wasn't included. - The wine choices weren't great either (surprisingly for an Italian place). We had zero satisfaction from the experience. The eggplant was delicious. The broccoli rabe could be less cooked, overall tasty and not chewy. Fettuccine with pesto could be cooked more al dente. Meatballs were good. Not over worked and flavored well. The sauce, a trace tart could benefit from some personalization but good. Cauli bites so good, great seasoning and light. All hot, good sized portions and well priced. I'd suggest they offer half plates on their pastas as they are heavy for summer. Love the montelpuciano, smoky with dark fruits.
