Came here to partake in Ditmars restaurant week and loved every single part of it. The place seems small from the front but once you go inside everything is so warm and cozy yet still very upscale. We sat at the bar and the bartender was wearing many hats, hottest, bartender, server you name it he was doing it and managing it well. Our prefix meal included 3 courses: Tuna Tartare and Mussels were our appetizers: delicious bites simple but flavorful. Entree was the perfect pernil with rice and beans and perfectly cooked sweet plantains. Desserts were the perfect bite to end the night. Definitely becoming coming here for a fusion of different cultures and dishes.
Relatively small restaurant that offers dishes with Brazilian influence. Where did a couple things and a drink each and enjoyed the date night vibes. I would not recommend the pasta but would recommend ordering the pao de queijo (PDQ). They were small, but we're full of cheesy flavor. It did take a while (30 mins) for the order to come out as it is baked to order. We ordered the flan, which was Brazilian style, and it was good. Not too sweet, creamy and dense, and a good serving to end the meal in a sweet treat.
Love when there is entertainment and happy hour combined. Especially when I didn't realize there's happy hour! Total bonus. Happy hour is til 7pm and there are many choices which is another plus. We ordered the passion fruit mojito, caprihana, draft beer and house white. Service was pretty good but the drinks took forever to come-not sure why. Restaurant was not that busy when we arrived. We were nearly done with the apps before the food arrived. Ambiance was fun with the music. Only wish the sound system would have been better to enjoy the music more. The calamari was the best app we had. Shrimp was garlic was tasteless and the wings were pretty tasty. The steak picanha was really delicious. Love that cut of meat. We ordered medium rare and it was a good choice. You can basically cook it on the cast iron plate to your liking. Loved the fried rice with bacon it came with. Yum! Will definitely come back again.
What a fantastic quaint restaurant. I can wholeheartedly say service, food and drinks are all top notch. Incredible happy hour drinks to add. So many places to eat in Astoria and this is a standout spot.
Came in with a group of 11 to celebrate a birthday. We shared a bunch of appetizers but my favorite was the Yucca Fritters. Big fan of the flavors and the crunchier outer coating. For my main dish, I ordered the Orecchiette. Can't go wrong with crumbled Italian sausage, broccoli rabe, pesto, and parmesan and this dish did not disappoint! I forgot to take a picture of the sangrita (mix of sangria and margarita) but trust me, order this because it is now my new favorite drink! The vibe and music were great and we all had a great dinner together.
Went for dinner last night. Was my first time there. We arrived early for our reservation, but were seated right away. We ordered the PDQ, and were told it would take about 20 minutes to come out since they are made to order. We started with the yucca fritters. Nice crunchy shell and creamy interior with the ham and manchego cheese. They were yummy dipped in marinara sauce. When the PDQ came to the table, they were piping hot. They had a nice, mochi-like chewiness, great cheesy flavor, and some crunchy bits on the outside. Very delicious with the accompanying sauce (like an herby mayo). I had the caribeño as my main entree, and my SO got the picadinho. The caribeño came with a mound of tender, shredded roasted pork on top of a crispy yucca cake. The pork went very well with the pickled onions and aji verde sauce. My SO enjoyed the picadinho (diced beef in Bordelaise sauce with a poached egg on top). I had one drink: the Vagabond. It was fruity, floral, sweet, and a bit tart. I enjoyed it very much. Service was great throughout the dinner, with the server coming by to check on us several times and asking us how we enjoyed the dishes. I would come back and try dessert next time.
Came here last night for restaurant week and we had the best experience! Our waiter was awesome, funny and attentive!!! The sangrita was so good; the Milanese - Chicken was done with perfection; the Yuca Fritters was so good; the lobster Mac and cheese was a bit dry was delicious, it had good flavoring; and for dessert we had the flan and the best passion fruit brûlée, which is a DEFINITE MUST TRY DESSERT!!! You won't be disappointed. Overall a great experience and service.
The food was amazing! Everything came out super quick and service was very nice. The drinks here tasted really good and I usually can't tolerate the flavor of alcohol at all but they were so well balanced that you can't taste it! Dangerously yummy. We got truffle fries to start they were nice and crispy and flavorful. We also the the PDQ which is made to order so it came out super hot but so delicious. It's not very crispy but the flavor is super nice and cheesy I got the crispy chicken bowl which was again very flavorful, savory and with a hint of tart, really well balanced! There was corn and raisins too which was a nice added texture. Then we had the passion fruit creme brûlée which was a mix of sweet and tart but so balanced like everything else! Very delicious! The restaurant itself is clean and the ambiance is chill. The room itself is a little dark but cozy vibes, highly recommend
Rounded up to 5 stars Porta 23 is a comfortable neighborhood restaurant in an area with many diverse restaurants. The cocktails are tasty and creative. The PDQ (homemade Brazilian Cheese Bread) was particularly good. The service was attentive. I gave Porta 23 a 5 star rating because I will probably eat there the next time I am in the area.
The ambience is inviting, the food is truly delicious, and the service is excellent. Everything came together for a perfect dining experience.
Wow I had such a lovely dinner at porta 23!! The food is giving home cooked and made just for you. Everything was SO fresh, hot and delicious. Great flavors. They also have a mango beer that was so so yummy! I enjoyed everything we ordered from the rotoli shrimp spring rolls, yucca fritters, pichana and chicken Milanese. The flan for dessert was creamy and delicious. Adrian was so nice and was handled the tables and the bar so well, great service and conversation!!
Really great date night restaurant with delicious food & drinks! Dimly lit and minimalist ambience. Highly recommend the hazelnut espresso martini. By the bathroom, there's a mirror for a good photo op. They do have Live DJ nights, check their website or call for days/times.
Porto is a small but chic spot in Astoria Ditmars. They currently have adorable Halloween decor. My partner LOVED their truffle Mac and cheese. Their truffle fries were also good, and I look forward to trying the edamame and tropical salad soon. Vegans -- there aren't a lot of options except the ones I listed (fries, edamame, tropical salad). Celiacs -- the menu doesn't list gluten free items but the servers are nice and knowledgeable about the items
Came for brunch and so glad we did! Service was a hit. The waiters were amazing, personable and very attentive. I can't begin to stress how attentive a server must be when having bottomless brunch. Our drinks were filled the second our glasses were empty. I recommend the Sangrita. A flavor explosion of a frozen margarita with the pour of a very good red sangria. Very, very delicious! The food was amazing and most flavorful. My serving of chiliquiles was a good 2 sized portions, even 3 if you eat smaller sizes. The way the salsa Verde hit my taste buds was unlike any other. Breakfast tacos on point. Avocado toast - delicious. Our apps, corn and sweet chili calamari - mouth watering. The way we devoured everything! The restaurant is small but cute in the most perfect way. Servers were accommodating to our space as there were a few esthetic trees by our table and they arranged them so that they wouldn't be in our way. Highly suggest reservations for brunch as it was quite busy. read more

Updated Review - Management Resolved the Issue I want to update my original review about my brunch experience at Porta 23. After posting my review, the owner reached out to me directly to understand what happened with the bill. I shared the details of our visit and they took the time to review the check with their team. They confirmed that the bill was handled incorrectly on their end, apologized for both the mistake and how it was addressed at the table, and offered to make the situation right. What really stood out to me was their willingness to listen, investigate, and take responsibility. Not every business does that, and it speaks well about their integrity and commitment to customer service. To be fair, during the visit itself: The food was good The drinks were very good The bartender was friendly and attentive The issue was mainly the billing error and how it was initially handled, but management stepped in and addressed it properly. Because of that, I'm updating my review and I'm willing to give them another try. I was excited to try this restaurant because I absolutely love the Brazilian acorn squash dinner. I saw they had it on their menu, and I knew I was definitely going to order it. That dish didn't disappoint here, but the rest of the dishes were a mixed bag. For appetizer we shared the beet salad, and we all thought it tasted terrible! The dressing was too strong for that salad! It tasted like a strong cheap red wine mixed with an overpowering cheap balsamic. It's the only way I can describe it. For entrees we had the acorn squash, picadhino, and a burger. We also ordered a side of fried bananas. The acorn squash was DELICIOUS! The tomato cream sauce was so good, and the mashed yuca underneath was so tasty as well! The picadino was ok/good, but the fried bananas it came with were terrible! They were soft and mushy! My side of fried bananas were terrible and mushy too! My husband liked his burger, but the fries had zero seasoning. Even though I loved the acorn squash I wouldn't come back because of the other items that's weren't good. Another weird thing is there was only one person waiting tables, seating you, and he was also the bartender. read more

I came here on my birthday with my mom on a Tuesday night. It was about 4 other tables there. I noticed they only had a bartender and hostess.... Or whoever the other guy was. The bartender was making everyone's drinks and taking orders. We started with the calamari and shrimp wraps forgot the name. Then my mom ordered the baked chicken not sure what else was the name of it but she stated it was salty. I had the chicken Milanese and added beets. Which was good to me... we finished with the passion fruit crème brûlée. It should've been a server there and some accommodations for the salty chicken.... Idk making another one asking to make something else. read more

the food was AMAZING. it's so rare to order an app, entree, cocktail and dessert and love all of them. maybe the best mussels i've had (they were HUGE). the staff was also so friendly and offered recommendations. great experience overall, and if you're reading this keep the truffle pasta on your menu!! read more

Porta 23 has a great looking menu, I order a few appetizers and drinks. The wings were the perfect blend of sweet and spice, a calamari was probably the best calamari I've ever had, the sauce were fantastic. The burger was so juicy! This is the first time in over a year I miss living in the city just so I could be close to the gem! The service was impeccable! The owner clearly has a passion for the business. The atmosphere is so chill and I had a great time out! read more

This review is for the soft opening only. I went with a bunch of friends and the appetizers were all phenomenal: calamari, mussels, and that ham and potato ball = yummy! The welcoming cheese bread bite is to die for and I wish it was available to order as an appetizer. I ordered the seafood pasta and it lacked flavor + I was hoping for more sauce, since there was a lot of pasta. Portions for the entree and appetizers were super generous, so it was a good deal. Since it was a soft opening, service definitely needed work. There were too many guests coming at the same time and the front/back of house was overwhelmed. Hopefully when it opens, guests will ebb and flow and come in waves, so to balance it all out. Beautiful decor + love the intimate bar seating up front. Friendly staff + look forward to seeing how it fares in Astoria! read more
Stumbled upon Porta 23 on Pulsd and honestly, it was the best deal ever. I didn't have high expectations tbh because the ambience is kinda old but the food and drinks made up for it. $59 for an appetizer, two entrees, two cocktails and a dessert - definitely a steal. My bf and I came for a Friday night date at 8:30PM and surprisingly, it only got busier. I would say service is a little slow because it is a relatively new restaurant but both the server (who is the bartender as well) and owner who helped serve were so nice we didn't mind. I got the strawberry basil drink and my bf got the spicy tequila drink, which were both delicious. For appetizer, we got the yuca fritters. The flavors go very well together. For entrees, we got the moranga, which is a Brazilian shrimp dish in squash and the picanha which was cooked perfectly and came with a fried rice. For dessert, the affogato was the perfect end to the meal. I really enjoyed Porta 23 and think it is even worth the full price. read more

This place was pretty good. I placed a delivery order from Porta 23, as they were running a BOGO on a few items via UberEats and everything showed up packaged well and still in good shape. Order totaled to $147. I ordered the - Picanha- $30 (Grilled top sirloin, arroz maluco & pico de gallo) - Seared Salmon - $27 (Sautéed yuca, spinach & honey passion fruit glaze) - Calamari - $16 (served w a side of fresh grilled lemon, spicy marinara and sweet chili sauce) - Buffalo Wings $14 - Flan, Pao de Queijo & Yuca Fritters were part of the bogo deals I typically, on a first time order at a restaurant don't tell them how to prepare my steak if they don't ask outright. Plus I think you should really only mention if you prefer your steak prepared rare or well done, since those are both two different extremes when it comes to preference. It is my sort of test of the chef's expertise. I prefer mine like I think it should always be prepared lol, medium/medium well, so my Picanha steak was a bit more cooked than I prefer, but I chalked it up to some additional cook time that possibly occurred as it traveled to me. They give you a healthy portion of steak and it was pretty tender. I didn't care for the arroz maluco. I typically love fried rice, period, but this was a bit too bacon heavy. Between that and the steak, I was wishing there was an actual vegetable included in the dish, traditional to the entree or not. The Picanha dish is def missing something and could be reworked a bit. Salmon entree was good. Ha, restaurants seem to love putting wilted spinach with salmon dishes. This dish could have used a bit of 'bite', maybe asparagus? Everything was...soft, from the fish to the yuca to the spinach, but still good nonetheless. Definitely a comfort meal. Salmon was hearty and tender. The PDQ was delicious, but the Yuca fritters were a bit on the dry side, which can often happen with yuca. The calamari was very good and maintained its crispy exterior even in delivery. No notes. Buffalo wings were good, but the garnish that they used to razzle dazzle them made the wings a bit soggy, so I would have them as a dine in option or ask them to not include the slivered carrots and celery if I ordered them again; however the flavor and tenderness was there. All in all a good experience. read more

Wow , so glad we chose this place to come to eat! We're visiting from Illinois. We were staying in a hotel about 3 miles away and looking for some good food and while this place may be small looking from the outside it gets bigger as you walk in and the food is absolutely incredible! The owner could not have been nicer, and described the dishes to us as well as the history. I had never had yuca before, but the seared salmon with yuca and spinach, was absolutely phenomenal! They also had a fantastic happy hour and amazing desserts that we were just too full to try! There are lots of restaurants on this little street in Astoria, but you should definitely give this one a try... You cannot be disappointed by the food, the ambience, and the prices are very reasonable for what you get! Wish I lived closer ! read more
