Came here to partake in Ditmars restaurant week and loved every single part of it. The place seems small from the front but once you go inside everything is so warm and cozy yet still very upscale. We sat at the bar and the bartender was wearing many hats, hottest, bartender, server you name it he was doing it and managing it well. Our prefix meal included 3 courses: Tuna Tartare and Mussels were our appetizers: delicious bites simple but flavorful. Love when there is entertainment and happy hour combined. Especially when I didn't realize there's happy hour! Total bonus. Happy hour is til 7pm and there are many choices which is another plus. We ordered the passion fruit mojito, caprihana, draft beer and house white. Service was pretty good but the drinks took forever to come-not sure why. Restaurant was not that busy when we arrived. We were nearly done with the apps before the food arrived. Ambiance was fun with the music. Only wish the sound system would have been better to enjoy the music more. The calamari was the best app we had. Shrimp was garlic was tasteless and the wings were pretty tasty. The steak picanha was really delicious. Love that cut of meat. Relatively small restaurant that offers dishes with Brazilian influence. Where did a couple things and a drink each and enjoyed the date night vibes. I would not recommend the pasta but would recommend ordering the pao de queijo (PDQ). They were small, but we're full of cheesy flavor. It did take a while (30 mins) for the order to come out as it is baked to order. We ordered the flan, which was Brazilian style, and it was good. Went for dinner last night. Was my first time there. We arrived early for our reservation, but were seated right away. We ordered the PDQ, and were told it would take about 20 minutes to come out since they are made to order. We started with the yucca fritters. Nice crunchy shell and creamy interior with the ham and manchego cheese. They were yummy dipped in marinara sauce. When the PDQ came to the table, they were piping hot. They had a nice, mochi-like chewiness, great cheesy flavor, and some crunchy bits on the outside. Very delicious with the accompanying sauce (like an herby mayo). I had the caribeño as my main entree, and my SO got the picadinho. The caribeño came with a mound of tender, shredded roasted pork on top of a crispy yucca cake. The pork went very well with the pickled onions and aji verde sauce. My SO enjoyed the picadinho (diced beef in Bordelaise sauce with a poached egg on top). I had one drink: the Vagabond. It was fruity, floral, sweet, and a bit tart. I enjoyed it very much. Service was great throughout the dinner, with the server coming by to check on us several times and asking us how we enjoyed the dishes. I would come back and try dessert next time. read more

Came in with a group of 11 to celebrate a birthday. We shared a bunch of appetizers but my favorite was the Yucca Fritters. Big fan of the flavors and the crunchier outer coating. For my main dish, I ordered the Orecchiette. Can't go wrong with crumbled Italian sausage, broccoli rabe, pesto, and parmesan and this dish did not disappoint! I forgot to take a picture of the sangrita (mix of sangria and margarita) but trust me, order this because it is now my new favorite drink! The drinks here tasted really good and I usually can't tolerate the flavor of alcohol at all but they were so well balanced that you can't taste it! Dangerously yummy. We got truffle fries to start they were nice and crispy and flavorful. We also the the PDQ which is made to order so it came out super hot but so delicious. It's not very crispy but the flavor is super nice and cheesy I got the crispy chicken bowl which was again very flavorful, savory and with a hint of tart, really well balanced! There was corn and raisins too which was a nice added texture. Then we had the passion fruit creme brûlée which was a mix of sweet and tart but so balanced like everything else! Very delicious! I came here on my birthday with my mom on a Tuesday night. It was about 4 other tables there. I noticed they only had a bartender and hostess.... Or whoever the other guy was. The bartender was making everyone's drinks and taking orders. We started with the calamari and shrimp wraps forgot the name. Then my mom ordered the baked chicken not sure what else was the name of it but she stated it was salty. I had the chicken Milanese and added beets. Which was good to me... we finished with the passion fruit crème brûlée. It should've been a server there and some accommodations for the salty chicken.... The staff is great! Shout-out to Patrick and the rest of the guys -- this is a great go-to in the neighborhood. Their drinks are good, their burgers are good, their picahna is a very satisfying dish, great Milanesa. We haven't tried their taco Tuesday yet but that sounds like a great deal. This place is highly underrated! Service is fantastic. Food is delicious every time, the Brazilian cheese balls are killer and churros a solid choice! It's nice to have options other than Greek food in this location. My hubby loves the half roast chicken. Drinks are extremely strong, sitting at the bar is always a good time. Stumbled upon Porta 23 on Pulsd and honestly, it was the best deal ever. I didn't have high expectations tbh because the ambience is kinda old but the food and drinks made up for it. $59 for an appetizer, two entrees, two cocktails and a dessert - definitely a steal. My bf and I came for a Friday night date at 8:30PM and surprisingly, it only got busier. I would say service is a little slow because it is a relatively new restaurant but both the server (who is the bartender as well) and owner who helped serve were so nice we didn't mind. I got the strawberry basil drink and my bf got the spicy tequila drink, which were both delicious. For appetizer, we got the yuca fritters. The flavors go very well together. For entrees, we got the moranga, which is a Brazilian shrimp dish in squash and the picanha which was cooked perfectly and came with a fried rice. For dessert, the affogato was the perfect end to the meal. I really enjoyed Porta 23 and think it is even worth the full price. read more

This place was pretty good. I placed a delivery order from Porta 23, as they were running a BOGO on a few items via UberEats and everything showed up packaged well and still in good shape. Order totaled to $147. I ordered the - Picanha- $30 (Grilled top sirloin, arroz maluco & pico de gallo) - Seared Salmon - $27 (Sautéed yuca, spinach & honey passion fruit glaze) - Calamari - $16 (served w a side of fresh grilled lemon, spicy marinara and sweet chili sauce) - Buffalo Wings $14 - Flan, Pao de Queijo & Yuca Fritters were part of the bogo deals I typically, on a first time order at a restaurant don't tell them how to prepare my steak if they don't ask outright. Plus I think you should really only mention if you prefer your steak prepared rare or well done, since those are both two different extremes when it comes to preference. It is my sort of test of the chef's expertise. I prefer mine like I think it should always be prepared lol, medium/medium well, so my Picanha steak was a bit more cooked than I prefer, but I chalked it up to some additional cook time that possibly occurred as it traveled to me. They give you a healthy portion of steak and it was pretty tender. I didn't care for the arroz maluco. I typically love fried rice, period, but this was a bit too bacon heavy. Between that and the steak, I was wishing there was an actual vegetable included in the dish, traditional to the entree or not. The Picanha dish is def missing something and could be reworked a bit. Salmon entree was good. Ha, restaurants seem to love putting wilted spinach with salmon dishes. This dish could have used a bit of 'bite', maybe asparagus? Everything was...soft, from the fish to the yuca to the spinach, but still good nonetheless. Definitely a comfort meal. Salmon was hearty and tender. The PDQ was delicious, but the Yuca fritters were a bit on the dry side, which can often happen with yuca. The calamari was very good and maintained its crispy exterior even in delivery. No notes. Buffalo wings were good, but the garnish that they used to razzle dazzle them made the wings a bit soggy, so I would have them as a dine in option or ask them to not include the slivered carrots and celery if I ordered them again; however the flavor and tenderness was there. The welcoming cheese bread bite is to die for and I wish it was available to order as an appetizer. I ordered the seafood pasta and it lacked flavor + I was hoping for more sauce, since there was a lot of pasta. Portions for the entree and appetizers were super generous, so it was a good deal. Since it was a soft opening, service definitely needed work. There were too many guests coming at the same time and the front/back of house was overwhelmed. Hopefully when it opens, guests will ebb and flow and come in waves, so to balance it all out. Beautiful decor + love the intimate bar seating up front. ZERO STARS - if I can hand out zero stars I'd give zero stars for Food zero for Ambiance and zero for Service. We came in Friday at 6:15 and no other patrons.(should've taken that as a sign) Lights were super bright, the music was blaring and it smelled like strong cleaning supplies. We were the only ones there and noticed a man in a coat, a winter beanie and gloves with a woman and her camera. He sat us down and we thought it was strange he wore a jacket as if he was leaving but then he came to take our order. We ordered a drink and two apps (garlic shrimp and yucca fritters). The cleaning supplies smelled so much that the food just tasted like the smelly cleaning supplies. The shrimp were chewy and overcooked. The fritters only had mashed yucca and zero ham or anything else that was supposedly inside them. I had to yell in order to have a conversation. The woman lurking in the restaurant kept walking back and forth down the restaurant and finally asked if she could take our photo. (For what reason?) we politely declined. We couldn't get out of there fast enough and the ironic thing was as we walked out another gentleman in a jacket dimmed the lights!!!! Never coming back here again. read more

Wow , so glad we chose this place to come to eat! We're visiting from Illinois. We were staying in a hotel about 3 miles away and looking for some good food and while this place may be small looking from the outside it gets bigger as you walk in and the food is absolutely incredible! The owner could not have been nicer, and described the dishes to us as well as the history. I had never had yuca before, but the seared salmon with yuca and spinach, was absolutely phenomenal! They also had a fantastic happy hour and amazing desserts that we were just too full to try! There are lots of restaurants on this little street in Astoria, but you should definitely give this one a try...
