Smoked Salmon, Chives, Crème Fraîche

Food was very good! Service was normal but Ambiance was nice! It was not packed and you really get to enjoy a wine bar for what it is! I went to the back and we ordered the Smoked Salmon, Chives, Crème Fraîche, Mission Figs, Jambon Sec, Goat Cheese, and Pimento Cheese and chips! I don't usually go wine bars but this was a pretty awesome place if you're going out on a date and want no reservations. The ambiance and how hidden it was compare having very little crowd was good. I would totally recommend the Smoked Salmon, Chives!

We didn't order any of the food but based on the apps the other tables had, they looked absolutely delicious and fresh. The wines were luscious and variant! The reds - to die for. The sparkling whites, evoke memories of when I spent summers in Bordeaux with my grandma. The staff were quick and attentive and offered good pairing suggestions. It got louder and for a date night I wish it was not as busy but hey that's New York. Would recommend.

Cute spot with single yet satisfying small plates that pair well with wine. Solid wine selection by glass and by bottle. There's definitely a date night vibe here.

What a great wine bar on the upper east side! Came here with 2 of my girlfriends and sat at the bar which we love doing. We shared the hummus, cheese plate and 2 flat bread pizzas - 1 with ham and the other with mushrooms. Both flat breads were equally amazing in their own way, that I cannot decide which one I like better. The hummus was pretty good but my least favorite of the few. Ans as for the cheese plate - LOVED it. All the cheese there are pasteurized so no issues for those with bebe on board. Cheese comes with bread with olive oil, honey, apples and grapes. we quickly devoured it and finished our meal with some chocolate bon bons. Definitely look forward to going back again. My lady friends enjoyed their wine and I took a sip which was enjoyable. The atmosphere is quiet and laid back so a perfect place to catch up with some friends :)

Excellent spot for a casual hangout with a group of friends. Great wine selection and very friendly staff. The bartender offered helpful suggestions based on what we're looking for and let everybody try their wine before pouring a glass! Everybody orders drinks at the bar. Food is delivered to the table. Great charcuterie board and delicious hummus! Would definitely come back again.

It's a low key and cozy UES late night wine bar. It has good wine options and the meat and cheese plate is great! Love how quiet and not busy it is during weekday evenings. Friday and weekend evenings are busy and crowded. Two different vibes and both are great.

Came in on a Sunday night for a drink - great wine list with descriptors, super friendly bartender and cozy atmosphere. Perfect for date night!

Behold, Vanguard's third and newest location in UES! At the outset, I was surprised how small and discreet the location seemed to be. Trying to locate this bar from down the street, I barely noticed the small signage outside. However, upon stepping inside, I was surprised to find that it was larger than it initially appeared. On a Thursday night, the bar was quiet enough for conversation, but lively enough to set the mood. The ambiance is super sexy, with its dim lighting, candles, and bottles of wine lining the walls. In addition to bar seating, there are also high top tables for couples and small groups. I recommend sitting at the bar as Vanguard is primarily for drinking, so it's nice to be able to easily get the attention of a bartender. They have a decent selection of wines for various tastes, and are happy to let you try a wine you're not sure about. Our bartender was a pleasant woman who helped us narrow down our choices until we selected a bottle we liked. The bottles are reasonably priced for a fancy pants wine bar ($40-$65 for stills, $48-$75 for sparkling). Their small plates menu is much less impressive, but does offer a few options if you are looking to snack along with your wine.

Keep it coming ...

Lovely place for drinks and light apps. High touch personal service. All around a good vibe and cozy.

We shared Betsy's Mom's Clam Dip, Mushroom Toast, Bitter Greens Salad, Minted Lamb Meatballs, and duck pâté. The meal opened with the clam dip; cool, lush, and briny, with a creamy oceanic richness that coated the palate; followed by a tangy, salty depth that clung to each crunchy bite of bread. The Mushroom Toast followed with deeper savoriness: earthy, almost forest-floor mushrooms, warm and tender, turning silky as they soaked into the bread, while the edges stayed crisp and toasted, adding contrast to the woodsy umami and subtle garlic warmth. The Bitter Greens Salad provided a bright, palate-cleansing break that included crisp and peppery greens with a sharp lemony dressing that snapped on the tongue, layered with faint fennel sweetness and the nutty, salty bite of shaved parmesan. The Minted Lamb Meatballs arrived richer and more comforting, tender and juicy with a gentle gamey depth, lifted by fresh mint that cut through the richness, and a cool, tangy tomato-yogurt sauce that added creaminess and brightness in equal measure. We finished with pâté--silky, dense, and deeply savory, with a faint iron-rich intensity and buttery smoothness, especially when spread on bread with sharp, briny pickles that added crunch and acidity. Each dish felt intentional and well-balanced for sharing, with varied textures and temperatures that built naturally across the table. I'd happily return to explore more of the menu.

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the counter to sit at any table inside or out and a server will help us. The inside is quaint with ample tables and chairs, with display of a commercial professional espresso machine and display of some of their pastries. Decided on outside, we found a table with two chairs and waited for service. Very quickly a young woman greeted us and while we looked at the menu, brought us water with lemon at our request. We end up ordering first two sandwiches, one with prosciutto and the other caprese. We waited to order our coffee drinks and parties afterwards. The sandwiches came quickly and to our surprise the sandwich was warmed which my preference and both were served on ciabatta-like buns that's had textures of foccacia. We loved both sandwiches. We then ordered the Italian donuts with Nutella and the cookies horn with light lemon crème as well as a cortado and latte. Pastries were also warmed and overall satisfied with our choices. I would come back here as I'm in the neighborhood often. Great place to meet a friend with reasonable prices and quality food.

The menu is fairly on the basic side - mainly drinks and pastries and there is some sandwiches. We decided to get the hot chocolate with whip cream (the whip cream is very needed). It was very rich, thick and delicious and not "too sweet." The whip cream really makes it more creamy and it does not really add to the sweetness which was good. We also got a side of Salame e Formaggio which I would recommend passing on because the cheese was kind of hard and not that great. The salami was good and honestly I'm not a fan of olives but my friend who liked it enjoyed them. Overall - a cute place to stop by for a hot chocolate and maybe a pastry!

Obviously as a wheelchair user, I cannot sit at the high tables, and when I have asked the staff for understanding, other places have denied me. Ines let me use my laptop at a wheelchair accessible table without any fuss. Mark was very gracious. When I asked, he said, "we will make an exception." The escargot was covered with pesto that tasted like the basil wasn't fresh. Also, I'm sure there was plenty of garlic because the restaurant smelled like it, but I would have liked more garlic in this dish. The meatballs were mostly bread (there may have been some meat). After we complained, the item was removed from our bill by our friendly, polite, and conscientious server. Note: This is a French restaurant, but they didn't have any butter for the bread.

Though they didn't serve the sprite-infused red wines I enjoyed in Spain, they did serve white sangrias, which were light, sweet, and very enjoyable. The toasted bread with tomatoes was bright and summery. The grilled asparagus was cooked wonderfully al dente, with a char that added a nice smoky flavor against the clean taste of the drizzled olive oil. The beef skewers were well seasoned and fatty. While the food was Spanish, the prices certainly were not! It was a tad pricey. There wasn't anything below $13 for their small bites. Nonetheless, the food was good, the service prompt, and the outdoor vibes quite lovely. I would go there again.
