This bar is cool and has a great ambiance and drinks, but there are lots of weird things about this place. a. They like to make it dark, like borderline creepy dark, it can be dangerous walking around. b. Be warned, they do not make drinks quickly here. Sooo if you are going on Sat night, expect your drink to take some time. c. Mocktails come at Cocktail price. Yes, my DD friend paid $22 dollars for a Mocktail. Went to this bar in UES for a private event. It's a small and intimate bar. The bartender was quick and attentive while working alone. The cocktails tasted good and fairly priced (Tito's soda was about $15), and they have a good selection of drafts. I don't think they serve any food since food had to be catered from a different place. A chill bar to have a drink if you live nearby. read more

Very nice ambience and outdoor seatings. There's a few tables outdoors and with a covering. Friendly staff. They have different events during the week, such as trivia night and karaoke night. Great spot on the UES! Great selection of beers and I enjoyed my Moscow mule. They have different nights of activities and my boyfriend and I were there on Thursday so it was karaoke night! Good vibes all around, and even though it was crowded inside and outside there was still good attentive service. Would return to this bar! read more

We had been to visit new baby twins at a nearby hospital. To celebrate that joy (and take advantage of happy hour), we went here for a Bloody Mary and a Pilsner. A very cute bar in the upper east side. Definitely on the small side but we were lucky that they were plenty of seats at the bar. The food menu is very very limited. The espresso martini was well. Made but in a very small coop glass. I asked for it not to be too sweet, but it was. The Pinot noir was good. Bartender is super friendly Irish guy. Not attentive to customers, he doesn't care if you enjoy it or not. The main thing is to take the money and not return any excess at all. His service level is so low. That I don't understand how a bar keeps a bartender like that. Repulsive man, bad service, maybe hates women, because I was my cousin and he just argued with her about the drink. We went there on the first Saturday after indoor dining became allowed again, so we were happy to have a drink inside a bar after so many months! We felt quite safe as we walked in, it looks like they are following all the necessary measures and they make you fill out a form that I guess it is pretty standard now during Covid19 times. Even though the outdoor seating area was full, the inside was quite empty, which was great! The bar is cozy and well decorated, I love the fall touch that they gave to the place! Our bartender was super nice and attentive and the drinks were amazing! They really know what they are doing! We got to try a few drinks: their classic Old Fashioned, Moscow Mule, Manhattan, Bees Knees and Hot Spiked Apple Cider, everything was amazing! Their Hot Spiked Apple Cider is the perfect fall drink! I must also comment on their music playlist as it was great! I really enjoyed the 80s rock hits and some other great songs they were playing! The owner of the bar, Jess, contacted me to apologize for the poor experience and explain that the bartender was only temporarily hired for the holidays so that she and her husband could go to Scotland. I totally get that it's difficult to run a small business and especially difficult to find time to take off, which is so important for everyone to do. The Hunterian is built for the expert drinker, coupled with a staff that drives wholesome conversation. Their attention to detail with every cocktail served is down to the milliliter, and buy backs are done by the book. You see, once in a while I have to venture to the UES to spend time with my painfully single bro friends - In their 30's but prefer venturing to bars packed with entry-level Wall St egos, girls who take selfie after selfie after picture after selfie while deep down inhibiting no social Identity outside of a smart phone, and every self-indulgent millennial socialite in between. Much needed addition to the neighborhood! Cozy and inviting cocktail bar with knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive staff. The cocktail menu was creative with an impressive variety - there were staples like an old fashioned or a penicillin (my first drink there, which was excellent!), but I was really intrigued by a chamomile bourbon and egg white cocktail, as well as a coffee-mezcal cocktail (mezcal infused in-house) that was unexpected and the standout for me. The atmosphere was warm with rich wood details and hunter green walls. It felt a bit more upscale than your average local, but without any pretentiousness. Seems like a great date spot! Frequent here after work and quality generally varies on who's handling the service. Typical neighborhood dive bar with decent cocktails but service quality varies dramatically when the bartender mans the house and the bar verses bartender at bar and waitress in the house. The latter tends to have better service. Outdoor sitting could use some work... needs heaters, but otherwise great for the spring, summer, and autumn. Inside tends to get extremely loud and crowded, don't expect to be able to hold a conversation inside. read more

Following a sweet message from the owner, I was willing to give this place another try when it opened back up. BUT, I am now extremely annoyed with this place as they are promoting congregating during the COVID-19 era. As someone who is currently working in an ICU, six days a week, for 14 hours a day, (less than a block away), it is disgusting to see that they are promoting crowds to gather in front of their establishment. From the hours of five pm to nine pm, there were consistently at least 15 people not wearing masks and drinking. This is despicable. If you don't care about your health, fine. But, don't rub it in my face after going through hell these last two months. read more

The Firing Squad is the best cocktail in the neighborhood if you're looking for something fruity and well balanced. Their riffs on everything from the sidecar to the classic martini are thoughtful and beautifully executed, with the bar offering a shocking absence of ostentatious frills one normally has to swallow along with their high-end cocktail. When ever I return to NYC. After my work is done I search out Bars in neighborhoods I haven't spent much time in. I was in the Lenox Hill area this trip. I found plenty of bars to choose. The Hunterian was by far the most unique. I went early so it wasn't crowded. Young crowd for sure. The bartender and hostess were extremely nice. Being NYC I knew drinks are pricey. No big deal. Excellent and expertly crafted cocktails! We've been missing a quality cocktail bar in the upper east side, so the Hunterian is just on point for whats needed in the neighborhood. I've tried a number of their cocktails so far, and would highly recommend their version of the Gin & Tonic, the Dracula, and the Satinsky.
