We had an hour to kill before our dinner reservation, so we ducked in here. It has a cozy, nostalgic vibe and the bartender was friendly and welcoming. They have nice happy hour specials, and it seems frequented by locals which is always a good sign. My go to HH spot in UES after work! Great cocktail happy hour options that are $3 off per drink (comes out to $10 per drink) and $5-6 for wine, beers & well drinks on HH. I like that their HH is until 8 every day of the week and 9p on Wednesdays because most spots end their HH early. They don't have food but you could always bring your own food or buy nearby! The bartenders are always friendly and it's a great vibe with music but you can still talk and not feel like you're too crowded in a bar so it's a good spot to go for HH with coworkers or friends. Came here with a party of four in a Saturday and we sat ourselves at one of the open tables. This place was decently packed and to order, you just go up to the bar and bring the drinks back to the table. There were only 1-2 bartenders but the service was extremely quick and the drinks were well priced and good. The thing I liked the most more than the drinks or anything else was the great vibe and ambiance, an authentic experience (I was there with my friends, but I could tell it's a perfect spot if you want to bring a date). A neighborhood bar in an area that doesn't especially feel like a neighborhood, Sutton Bar Room is a bonafide haven. We were in the neighborhood getting dinner at Teppen Ramen (seems like the best ramen is to be had up around here) and I figured we'd have to head downtown for anything remotely resembling a place without a serious scene (and the high prices that usually go along with it). Sutton Bar Room kept popping up on Yelp searches. We usually give places that are new to us the one drink rule... But then we stayed for three! It's a modest, cozy vibe, with a really nice bartender and chill crowd. We sat at the bar for a round and then moved to the tables up front. The only reason we left was because we wanted to bar hop, but I could have easily settled in for the rest of the night here. Prices are shockingly fair and there's a decent bubbly by the glass. Being that ramen is always on my brain when it's cold outside, I expect to have Sutton Bar Room on regular rotation. read more

The short: amazingly cozy, clean local bar with great staff, great booze and great deals. The longer: most recently I came with two friends from out of town for Monday happy hour. I enjoyed a $5 glass of Malbec, headed to the gym (lol) and came back... they were hanging out at the bar, drinking yummy hot spiked cider and playing trivia. It was a fabulous way to spend a Monday after work. My friends and I love it here... it's easily our favorite local spot. Forgot to snap a photo of my cocktail. Had the cigar old fashioned (it was named "cigar* old fashioned, I've forgotten the exact name). Anyways, I usually can't pinpoint the flavors in a drink but the vanilla, pecan bitters, and cigar all came through. It was truly one of the best old fashioned drinks I've ever had. In the area & we happen to come check this place out for drinks .. fairly quite inside for a Friday afternoon after work. We sat by the bar, they offer some happy hour specials & $3 dollars off their signature cocktails such as the Frose .. summer days call for frozen drinks always , we gave the frose a try. Very good Frose , nice taste & a decent amount of alcohol after having a few I actually had a nice buzz. Came back to SBR, as I knew I would. Aoibhinn was behind the bar as luck would have it. As far as equal rights are concerned, I felt the bar to be a very equal parts white, black, Latino - a real coming together of cultures, not unrepresentative of NYC as a whole but still nice to see. Okay, I digress, I also felt that there was a very representative coming together of straights and LGBTQ+ humans which is really just so nice to see on the east side. Small familiar place with Irish inspiration decoration. Just drinks, no food at all (but if you ask, they'll allow you to bring food in or have it delivered there). I came here for trivia night (Monday nights, starts at 7 PM) with a group of my friends. Honestly, the trivia was HARD but it was still a fun experience. There is happy hour during trivia, but it include just beers and wines and I think some mixed drinks. I think they're all in the $4-5 range during HH. Ciders are not included FYI. There is NO food at all, which I think is a huge negative ... however, we ordered pizza and they did not mind us having our food. I saw some people bring in large bags of snacks so I think they were regular trivia goers that understood the deal. This place is pretty tiny and can fit maybe 15 people at most. I don't think it's necessarily the best spot cause there is no food and the trivia was really difficult (but I heard this is an external group that does trivia at bars around NYC - either way, they asked really obscure questions) but it's fine if you're looking for a quick drink and you're in the neighborhood. read more

Sweet little neighbourhood spot for sure. Came in on a Sunday afternoon with a group of friends. I selected the spot for a chill couple of cocktails and it's exactly what we got. We had the bar pretty much to ourselves for 3-4 hours. One or two regulars stopped in at the bar and everyone kept to themselves. The bartender was just the right amount of attentive and the drinks were slightly above average. I can dig a casual joint that can make a neat cocktail. Honestly, I respect a bar that doesn't offer food as opposed to a bar that offers crappy food that is suspect. So thank you, Sutton Bar room. Drinks are very reasonably priced. You can get a cocktail for $13 or so. I had the jalapeño margarita and it was quite good. Actually I was able to have three of them without remorse because the drinks were reasonably priced.... You can go from "Me and Julio down by the Schoolyard" to Azalea Banks (and that's not a good thing). It actually says a lot about the place and the neighborhood. Like "hey man, it's Sutton Place and average age is 65, but we want some younger clients too!" Idk? Hope they sort this out. If they did it would be hands down the best bar in a 5blk radius. This bar seems like a local neighborhood spot. When we walked in it was filled with locals who seemed like they frequent this place often. Everyone knew the bartenders names and it was the neighborhood "cheers" type place. We came for a private party and they had some live music which helped the vibe. There are only 2 small tv's so it probably isn't the best place to watch a game but a good spot to catch up with a friend or date. It is a cool place but it isn't a destination spot. I wouldn't seek it out or recommend people traveling far to come here. If you are in the area and thirsty pop in though. read more
