Vesta is a nice spot for any Astoria local looking to grab a quick bite and glass of wine. The food is simple, but has nice clean flavors and the portion sizes were great! Named after the Roman goddess of home and hearth, Vesta trattoria in Astoria certainly has a warm and homey feel. The dark and soft lighting combined with the cozy and comfy decor are inviting and perfect for a neighborhood wine bar that locals love to frequent. The wine list is modest but comprehensive. I believe it provided enough variety without drowning you in pages on pages of options. We had a glass of the pinot noir, the bordeaux, and the sauvignon blanc. All were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the bordeaux, which was oaky and not too sweet with a very pleasant and mellow aftertaste. For starters we tried the Arincini with mozzarella and pesto and the meatballs. We enjoyed them both. The meatballs were nice. Nothing mind blowing, but solid classic meatballs. The pesto flavor in the arancini was very subtle, but the consistency was perfect and they were still very enjoyable. We both went for pasta. The gnocchi with lamb and eggplant and the Orecchiette al Funghi with mushrooms and truffle oil. The consistency of the gnocchi was slightly firm but still very nice, as was the flavor of the lamb. I did not get much of an eggplant taste, but overall the dish was lovely and I cleaned the plate. The Orecchiette was the star of the show for us. The mushroom flavors were perfectly balanced with the cream sauce. Overall I quite liked the experience. The staff was very friendly and the service precise. Good, local Italian comfort food. Outstanding Thanksgiving Dinner! We had take out from Vesta for our traditional Thanksgiving dinner. It included turkey with all the fixings: mash potatoes, gravy, stuffing and a plate piled high with turkey both light and dark meat. The cranberry sauce was clearly home-made and delicious. We also added two sides of Vesta's amazing crispy Brussels spouts. All & all a superlative meal! This isn't the worst Italian restaurant, but my husband and I can't figure out why it's so highly rated. Portions are small, they don't serve cocktails, they were out of several things on the menu, my sauce for the entree tasted like heated orange juice and was almost too sweet to eat, my meal was also missing a component. I got the Cornish Hen and was only served half of the bird - a Cornish Hen is small to begin with so expecting half of one to be an entree at full price is laughable. Again, not awful, the food itself was cooked well and the gentleman bussing tables was quick. But there are so many good restaurants in Astoria - go give your time and money to them instead. I came here to celebrate a birthday with a large party of 20 so we went with the brunch! They accommodated is to their best ability we had some minor issues that were quickly resolved. The music is very very low & vibe isn't so much of a brunch vibe. I ordered a screw driver $7 to start & that seemed light but was ok next I ordered a bloody Mary $7 which was very good! If you like bloody Mary's you will like this one! For my entree I ordered the chicken and waffles with the jalapeño maple syrup with extra jalapeño the chicken was fried to hard & flavorless & the macaroni & cheese with bacon & poached egg and that was tasty! I didn't like the noodles they used very much I feel like it needed more cheese but it was ok for what it was. For dessert I ordered the chocolate molten cake with vanilla gelato it was more on the fudge side which some may prefer however for myself it was a bit sweet. My cousin noticed the server licked his thumb after giving syrup because it was on his hand.. I by this time had all my food however I'm positive there was no hand washing after that as he continued to serve other tables. Also when she asked for butter for her waffle he took the butter off our table to give to her table instead of getting a new one from the kitchen. We went here for Thanksgiving and it was SO GOOD. We have been meaning to try this restaurant for a while since it's right down the street. The service was spot on, and it's a super chill vibe. Had brunch here today. I had the Hangover Pizza while my wife and daughter had the Eggs Ricotta. So my review is limited to those dishes. While I'm not a big fan of ricotta, it was plated beautifully and both said it was as good as it gets. They are very picky so that's a full fledged RAVE. My pizza was Freaking Magnificent ( I don't want to be redundant and say as good as it gets, but it was). I mean pizza is pizza? No! This was extraordinarily good, fresh hot and tasty ingredients including eggs bacon and potatoes on a thin crust. Delicious Plus! Came here with a friend last Friday night. We were lucky to get a table without a reservation though it was empty when we arrived it quickly became packed with people. We had the house red wine which was fantastic. we shared the Barada and arancini for appetizers and they were both divine. The complimentary bread they give you is also delicious with no butter or olive oil needed. I got the gnocchi and he got the orecchiette both were absolutely delicious. I've been a loyal customer of Vesta for years. My wife and I often bring friends from out of town there. I love their Mushroom Orrechiette and order it often. However, I write this review in the hopes that the management will be more careful in the packaging for delivery of that dish (or any of their dishes with sauces). I have now received, on 3 occasions, a soggy bag containing a smashed-in box, funghi sauce spilt everywhere. It's already not much pasta for $17 (but I just love the sauce so much). My buddy is starting to get into wine lately, and the two of us being more beer guys, I actually welcomed a change of just going to bars with beers and bar food. He told me to look up a place on Yelp and Google maps, and hit upon Vesta. My best bud arrived earlier to the place and sat at the bar. I guess my friend's outgoing nature and speaking with the bartenders, who were equally outgoing and friendly, opened up a really great time and overall experience at Vesta. I have no idea what wines were provided to us. I just drank them, but they were all great recommendations by David and Jude. We ordered the meat and cheese board, pesto arancini balls, mussels and "la torta del piccolo" for dessert. All of the food was just impeccable, unbelievably delicious. The barkeeps gave us more toasted bread to sop up the broth in the mussels dish. Then I just ate the buttery broth with a spoon. I'll worry about my cholesterol levels on a later point in my future. The service, atmosphere and food made the visit to Vesta feel like an Anthony Bourdain or an upscale Guy Fieri show. I will definitely be back here, and you should go to this place too! read more

I had the squid ink pasta and my boyfriend had the braised short rib. The short rib was soft and tender, melting in the mouth. I felt the dish was a bit uneven, and the mash potatoes on the bottom was not warm throughout the entire plate. The squid ink pasta was absolutely delicious, though. The white wine sauce had a cut of sour through the creaminess of the meal. I was also impressed by the spiral cut of the shrimp, which was tender and perfectly cooked. This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a while! I went here on Friday night as a last minute plan change to celebrate my teens birthday with a party of 9. Every other restaurant was fully committed and our original reservation at another place was forfeited because our day plans ran over and we would not make the original reservation.
