Sweet Chile Veggie Bowl with Crispy Tofu

I recently had dinner at Slate Street with a Meetup group of 12 people. We were seated together up in the loft. It was a fabulous experience with excellent service, great food, and a very nice ambience.

    Fresh Mushroom Pasta

Wow. Calling Slate Street a "cafe" is a major understatement. We had dinner there last night in the beautiful ambience of the relaxing atmosphere. We started off with bruschetta which is one of my top five favorite appetizers. I'm not sure what the combination of toppings were but it was amazing in itself. So many flavors came together to make it a gotta-have-again menu item. My husband had the Brown Bag Fish-n-Chips, which had salmon as the fish and was amazing. He said it was the best fish and chips he's ever had. I ordered a Fresh Mushroom Pasta in a creamy wine sauce. Again, the flavors came together to somehow enhance the subtle flavor of the mushrooms without overwhelming it. I savored that dish for about a half an hour, making sure not to miss a drop. I didn't get the name of our server but she was attentive without hovering. She beamed when I expressed our delight in the entire experience, and said she would pass my comments on to the chef. We only live about a half mile away, so I'm sure this will be a regular go-to in the future.

Inside of business clean and welcoming. Noise level is never loud. Food is always food. My favorite dish is the egg sandwich mainly because of the taste and quality of the bread used. Server came by often. Prices are fair. I came during lunch hour and it was steady but not busy.

Never quite a reason for me to drive downtown on its own, but I'll sometimes meet people at Slate Street Cafe for lunch if we need a solid and fast place in the area. The food is reliably good - not great. Good ingredients and tasty: you aren't going to be unhappy but the chow somehow never ever hits the "I can't wait to come back!" level for me. Part of that might be that portions are not particularly large - yet the prices are reliably at the warm end of things. Service is reliably good - although not warm. The room is attractive - but stacks of patio chairs stored in the hallway don't bring an upscale vibe. The owner knows her wine - this is a solid place for that. For me Slate Street teeters between "Okay" and "Good" . . . let's go with "good" in this review.

Found this little place for a late breakfast after a walk through the rail yards with a friend. I ordered a grilled cheese with apricot chutney with no onions. Unfortunately the chutney had onions and I had to send it back. They were very kind about. Had just a grilled cheese on sourdough. It was good. I'll come back and try something different. It's super cute, loved the colors and the staff was super friendly. They have the shew fly fans which I appreciate. Nice indoor and outdoor seating.

This restaurant was recommended by a local friend. I ordered banana bread as an appetizer, which I do not have a photo of. there was one slice which was cut in half and it had been warmed up. Very tasty. We (party of 5) all had a bite to share. For breakfast, I ordered the veggie omelet with cheesy hashbrowns. I asked for light cheese and they got it right. I was pretty excited about the large amount of veggies in my omelet. I enjoyed my breakfast. My partner ordered the basic breakfast, and he enjoyed the meal but thought more hashbrowns could have been provided. a Friend ordered scrambled eggs with ham and hashbrowns and she enjoyed her meal. Service was good, but it did take awhile for the food to come out. That may be due to the fact that we were there right when they opened along with 5-7 other tables so it could have been that everyone ordered at the same time. The inside was spacious, with lots of natural light, and nice and clean. There is a covered patio on the side of the restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would go back.

    Bacon omelette and hash browns

Outstanding customer service, great environment and overall good experience however, the food was just okay for me. I had an omelette and it was good, don't get me wrong. It was just nothing to brag about or to make me want to come back and try something new on the menu. I don't like being super critical if I haven't tried at least three things on the menu so I'm not saying it's bad by any means, I just didn't have anything that was outstanding or exceptional with the meal, I still gave four stars for the incredible staff and overall dining experience.

My son suggested we visit Slate Street Cafe, because he'd had great meals there in the past. We must have visited on an off day. They were busy and had already run out of a number of items on the menu. I ordered an egg sandwich with avocado---and part of the avocado was gloppy and brown. I removed the yucky parts and the rest of the sandwich was tasty. The egg sandwich came with hash browns, which were extremely salty. My son ordered the steak and eggs, and the steak was encrusted in so much salt it was almost inedible as served; he had to scrape off the salt layer to eat it. The staff seemed rushed and inattentive. The sandwich was about $16 and the steak and eggs $22. The prices could have been justified had the quality been there, but honestly, the quality just wasn't there. It was a disappointing experience.

$15 zucchini black bean burger with fries
    Robert C.

What, a carnivore eating a zucchini-black bean burger!? Wife and I rarely needed much of a lunch after the AYCE breakfast buffets at the Hilton downtown Albuquerque. Came here after getting up at 4am for the Balloon Fiesta. Located in a residential area, just beyond blocks of law offices in downtown Albuquerque. Would not have found it unless looking for it. Large cathedral ceilings, two level restaurant, which included a loft. Bright, with large windows, airy and clean. My $15 veggie burger patty was made of zucchini and black beans. Flavor came with spread of cheddar, delicious corn relish, avocado, and green chile mayo. Had to eat it with a fork and knife, as the patty fell apart in my hands, a common drawback of veggie burgers. Tasty enough to satisfy a carnivore. French fries on the side, which would have tasted better unsalted, but firm and on the thin side, and flavorful. Wife had the $8 green chile stew with chicken and tortilla chip strips. Meal tasted just the way she fondly remembered after living 18 years in Santa Fe. Not often I write about burgers, let alone veggie burgers, probably the first this decade.

Hidden Gem in Nobhill Albuquerque…read more I recently visited the restaurant at Mission Winery and had a great experience from start to finish. To start, I ordered the sangria and the crab & artichoke dip. The sangria was on the sweeter side but not overwhelmingly so, making it easy to enjoy with the appetizer. The dip was delicious, creamy, and packed with flavor, although I honestly couldn't taste much artichoke. It was still a great starter, especially paired with the bread. For dinner, I ordered the red chile fried chicken bites with fries. The chicken was the standout of the meal--crispy, flavorful, and coated in a delicious red chile sauce that had just the right amount of kick. The fries were perfectly cooked and paired well with the ketchup. My friend shared the appetizer with me and ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad, which she enjoyed alongside one of the wine tasting flights. The real surprise of the evening came after dinner. Our host handed us a card with a password to access the speakeasy downstairs. If you visit Mission Winery, don't skip this part. The speakeasy had a completely different atmosphere from the restaurant above and quickly became the highlight of the night. The space feels intimate, sophisticated, and thoughtfully designed, with dark wood accents, comfortable seating, and a stylish lounge vibe. My friend and I both ordered espresso martinis, and they were fantastic. The presentation alone was impressive--the unique glassware was chilled and helped keep the cocktail cold longer, allowing us to enjoy it at a relaxed pace. Between the excellent food, wine, creative cocktails, and the hidden speakeasy experience, Mission Winery offers much more than just a typical dinner out. The restaurant was great, but the speakeasy downstairs is what will have me coming back. Recommendation: Start with dinner upstairs, then ask about the speakeasy password and finish your evening downstairs with an espresso martini. It's one of the coolest date night or girls' night experiences I've found in Albuquerque.

August 21, 2026 - Old Town, Albuquerque…read more We poked our heads in to ask about outdoor seating since we had our pup with us, and were greeted by a super friendly employee who pointed us toward the patio in front of the building. Dog-friendly seating? Off to a good start. We decided to do some wine tastings and share a charcuterie board. There was a different employee in this part of the winery. My husband mentioned that he couldn't have gluten and asked if there was a gluten-free alternative to the bread/crackers. Imagine my surprise when the board arrived with... tortilla chips. For a place that also specializes in gourmet foods, I was expecting something a little more exciting than chips. Gluten-free crackers, anyone? The wines were nice, and we really enjoyed sitting outside. The only other slight downer was the service. When I went inside for another tasting, I casually asked the server, "How's your day going?" His response: "I'm here." Well... I guess technically that answers the question. Clearly, he was having an off day. It happens, but you can't help but pick up on that energy when you're trying to relax and enjoy some wine. Overall, we had a nice time, enjoyed the patio with our pup, and even bought a bottle of Tighty Whitey White to take home. A couple of little misses, but nothing that would keep us from coming back.

This time I was in town with my husband, we were excited to do some appetizers before heading out to a concert at Santa Fe Opera House. I should've known when we walked and the hostess looked less thrilled that we had arrived. Strike one. Once again we sat waiting for our drinks. When talking to our waiter I asked if they had a Lambrusco (red sparkling wine) and he had no idea what I was talking about, this is a wine bar people. I think the waiter should know about the wine. Either way when our drinks finally arrived, my husband's craft tap beer was about 2 inches short. Like it had been sitting on the counter for too long, or someone already drank out of it. Strike two. The same thing happened with his second beer, terrible pour. Either bring it out with head or fill the pint glass appropriately. For appetizers, we ordered the hummus and whipped feta with pita, the calamari, and a radish, arugula prosciutto salad. The calamari was ready and sitting on the counter under a heat light for 20 minutes before it was brought to us with our other appetizers. At this point it was soggy. I also had to ask for the dips that were advertised with the calamari. They then brought out the garlic aïoli, and then I had to again ask for the marinara sauce , as stated on the menu. The salad was all right, but was definitely lacking flavor, some balsamic would've helped it. The hummus and whipped feta was so terrible we had to send it back. The hummus was dried out and rockhard. We couldn't even dip into it. The whipped feta was separated from sitting in a fridge too long. It was milky with a hard clump in the middle. How this got served is beyond me, you could tell by looking at the milky feta and the dried out hummus that it was bad. The manager did come and take it back and it was taken off our check. That's all we ever saw of the manager again. When we were ready to leave, the waiter still had to take the feta and hummus off our ticket. Strike three. I just don't understand, the atmosphere is so beautiful, the space is really unique. They will not be getting my money again.
