Even though we have been to Smothered Old Town, we just found out there was a second location after a friend pointed it out. Sitting at an old Bosque location, this place still reads like a brewery, with the bar at the center and a fermenter. We got seated quickly and our server was very patient with us, as we kept asking for another minute to choose. Eventually, we ordered the Huevos Rancheros for our friend and the Meat Lover Omelette, Christmas style. Our friend liked the rancheros. For the omelettes, o can say they are fully stuffed with ham, lots of bacon, and good chunks of adovada. It was a full protein bag of deliciousness. The green sauce was acidic and mild. The red sauce was also mild but had more complexity with a tiny touch of sweetness and smokiness. Overall, this location had less of the Smothered personality, but the dishes packed a whole lot of value and flavor for a very reasonable price. read more

Met friends for breakfast - I am not a breakfast person and I liked this place. Clean, pleasant , good service. Everyone liked what they got. I got the basic smash - with eggs on the side - and it was really tasty. Green Chile was good. Large portions and great service. And reasonable. Will be back. I liked it but didn't love it. I would give it a 3.5 star but im rounding up to 4 because nothing was bad; there were just a couple things that prevented me from loving it. The good: -Service was fantastic and attentive. Not only was our server constantly checking on us but the manager also walked by a couple times. - My friend really loved their vanilla latte and said it might be her favorite in town. -Homemade buscuit and potatoes were delicious! -The chorizo gravy was so flavorful! The meh: -I wish there was more gravy on my sandwich! - My potatoes were supposed to be gravy smothered based on the menu description but were not. - I tried the seasonal special latte- the chocolate covered strawberry latte and it tasted artifical to the point of being sickly sweet. - Felt like it was a bit pricey. $20 for a gravy smothered chicken biscuit with potatoes and $8 for a latte. read more

Our experience with the service was extremely disappointing. Our waiter/waitress never came to our table to ask if we wanted anything to drink, and we were left waiting without anyone taking our order. We had to sit there wondering if anyone was even aware that we were waiting to be served. First time for my wife and I. Food was super good. The Carne Adovada was really great. Red chili was excellent along with super tinder pork. Found a booth and our server was at the table with menus and ready for our beverage orders. Lotsa choices I opt for the biscuits & gravy. It came with chorizo &/or white gravy. At the time I didn't realize that it was much more - 2 eggs, sausage & potatoes. Food arrived - it was a lot. The single biscuit was prob 3x3x2". Of course them came the chorizo & white gravy smothering it. Add 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, and potatoes. Definitely more than I could eat. The meal was delicious. The chorizo gravy was excellent, not overly spicy or greasy. The potatoes were well spiced. We topped it off with the cinnamon roll. It's not what you might expect. It's thin, like a piece of thick bread, about 12" long. They're covered with a sweet cream & loaded with a pecan topping. Another excellent menu item. This place is a good place to eat. Our 2nd time here and won't be the last. The coffee is wonderful. The French Toast and Belgium waffles are excellent, and much better than most basic breakfast places. I gave it 3 stars because the chili is not authentic and the potatoes are not good. We came for breakfast while waiting for our dog to get groomed at Petco. This was a good spot and definitely has the brewery vibes. I'm curious what the plan is moving forward since Bosque has closed down, they have posted smothered will stay open. I got a corned beef hash smashed and my son got an egg plate. This has become our goto place for breakfast. Every dish we've tried is awesome! They are very generous with all their delicious food. My favorite is the Garden Omelet which is loaded with lots of veggies and is big enough to take home the remaining omelet for a later meal. The onion rings were not homemade but on the good side they gave a full serving of them and they were good and crispy. Place was practically empty when I went so service was spot on. This restaurant took over the Toltec Brewery location, did not change the interior at all so it still has a cold industrial atmosphere but that's not a big deal. The service was unfriendly to say the least, and the food was even more disappointing. The food came out warm, not hot. Just a barely edible temperature that is kind of questionable if it's even safe to eat. The smash potatoes are flavorless, just plain old potatoes, and they only had orange marmalade and apple butter as options for toast. Very weird and not good options. Basically unfriendly service and lukewarm bland food here, do not recommend. read more

This was my second visit and I got the Trio Smashed again because it was so good the first time. Both times I ate a third of it and brought the rest home for breakfast for the two of us tomorrow. My husband got the SW Chicken Sandwich. It had a lot of bacon and the side of sweet potato fries were perfect....crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and not greasy at all. Wasn't great. Walked in to two servers talking with someone at the front podium and when I looked expectedly at one of them they said something like "do you need something?". They have a sign that says please wait to be seated so I asked to be seated. Literally had to ask. Service from there was fine from wait person that sat me nothing of note either way- the person I expect was the manager seemed to be running around more interested in laughing and chatting with crew taking break than helping, making sure customers were happy, ot cleaning. Mind you - no one was busy. I ordered the veg smash bowl added sausage. It was the kind of sausage that's pre-formed and precooked that you get on cheap pizza so not great quality there, and the potato was good but I got almost whole halves of potatoes and very few had that crust you expect on a smash potato. I will say eggs were cooked a perfect over-medium so the cook did good there. Ambiance was not what I expected for advertised breakfast /brunch place it's def more sports bar. When I was done I literally could not get out of there fast enough so walked up to the bar instead of waiting for server. It was filthy. Decided to give this spot a try and was very happy with the visit. There were four of us and we had a bacon flight, chips with guac and salsa, chicken biscuit, BLT, classic breakfast and breakfast blue corn enchiladas. Guac was good but the salsa was amazing and different than other spots in color and slight tangy and hot flavor. Bacon flight was really good especially the pancake bacon, the vanilla bourbon glaze and jananero glaze yumm. BLT was delish and came with homemade chips ( so fresh) and tasty, the chicken biscuit had a scrumptious biscuit but the chicken was a little too dry but the chorizo gravy on it made up for some of it. The Blue corn chicken enchiladas came with red and green (Christmas) beans, over easy eggs and homemade potatoes with carne adovada on top and a tortilla. This was the star of breakfast and would have hit it out of the universe if the tortilla was homemade. Service was amazing and various waitstaff came around to check in us including the manager. Great vibe, good food and would recommend to check it out and leave your review.
