    Stopped by this little brewery style hang out. We stopped by to grab something to eat before seeing a show at Popejoy. The hype this place had when they were first talking about opening it isn't all that I thought it was cracked up to be really. The gentleman who took our order and served us was nice and the food was decent. Keep in mind this is placed in the UNM SUB building where college students and faculty would come for lunch or breaks so the style and environment they were going for was spot on but I think it's rally just for that; students and faculty in lunches or break who are on campus. I would've probably preferred another of the food options available in the SUB if they were opened but we wanted to have an adult beverage.

We were seated immediately and the service was phenomenal from start to finish. We started with the meatball appetizer with pesto sauce. While it tasted good, the meatballs seemed like frozen/pre-made rather than scratch-made, which was a little disappointing considering the price point. That said, we were brought bread and butter beforehand which was a nice touch. For entrées, my husband ordered the New Mexico pasta and he enjoyed it. I ordered the ribeye with a loaded baked potato and a salad with bleu cheese vinaigrette. My steak was initially overcooked, but they handled it perfectly -- they boxed up the original steak to take home AND cooked me a brand new one to medium rare (absolute perfection). That level of service really stood out. The wine tasting was phenomenal -- we tried a sweet rosé that was absolutely delicious (I wish I remembered the name!). We also ordered dessert and tried the chocolate torte, which was just okay -- not bad, but nothing memorable. Our server went above and beyond, checking on us frequently and even discounting our ticket for our anniversary, which made the night feel extra special. The ambiance inside was quiet, romantic, and business-casual, with beautiful warm décor. The restaurant was very clean and well kept. We would definitely return and recommend this spot for date nights, anniversaries, and wine lovers. Great service, solid food, and an inviting atmosphere.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a really cool art-gallery vibe throughout the space. It's the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time sipping wine and browsing the local artwork. The wine selection was impressive--lots of unique New Mexico wines to choose from, and the tasting flights are a great way to try several different varieties. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable, offering recommendations based on what we liked and explaining the wines without making it feel intimidating. We also tried a cheese board which paired perfectly with the wine and made the whole experience feel a little extra special. Whether you're a serious wine enthusiast or just looking for a fun stop while exploring Old Town, this place is definitely worth checking out. Great wine, great vibe, and great service. Plus they have a bunch of items for sales that make great gifts. Even when busy they always manage to get to everyone fairly quick. You can buy a bottle, a glass, or do one of their tastings. Mix white and red, all whites, all red, whatever you prefer, and if you want to make it a pairing, they have a menu to order food from. To make it more fun, they end each tasting with a green chile wine pour. Good wine, great service and they even have live music at times.

We walked into their festive dining area and grabbed a couple spots at the bar. They had plenty of options. We weren't totally sure so the kind bartender let us a try a couple. I'm happy to say they still have some good reds. I've always thought that Lescombes were one of the best New Mexican wines, and they had those. We got their Hervé board as well to nibble on, which was a great assortment of meat cheeses and more. From the bites to the wines to the service, it's one of the best spots to kill an hour downtown.

The food is hit and miss. -Pigs' ears were incredible, fried mushrooms were not (heavy on the breading and mushrooms were impossible to taste). -The multitude of pickles are fun but sometimes overwhelm the palate and risk becoming a schtick. -The chicken liver pâté (actually a parfait) was good flavor-wise but wasn't emulsified properly (grainy) and was served too cold (and therefore hard) rather than at room temperature where it would be rich and creamy. -While I understand that it's easier to manage, I'd have liked to see some fresh bread as an alternative to the croutons. The salumi were likewise hit-and-miss. -The bresaola (a hard one to hit on) was overly salty, a little too dried, and should have been cut paper thin on the slicer rather than thickish slices offered. -The salami was very good -The fries had excellent flavor but it would be nice to see them achieve better crisp (thrice-fried) and little less salt (something that comes up a little often throughout). Having said all this, the chef is having fun in the kitchen, experimenting, and coming up with some ingenious items and combinations. So I'd like to see more consistency but there was enough to choose from that I will definitely go back.

Once I figured out I could break the skin by folding it with my fork after making a crease in it with my knife I ate every bit of it, the creamy flesh and the crisp peel and the greens that came with it. Husband had the smoked tinned oysters that I thoroughly enjoyed on his behalf because he wasn't wild about it. He admitted he is partial to fresh oysters and so no other preparation was going to match that preference. His loss, my gain. We finished off the meal sharing the chocolate bark and we lingered over our drinks, chatted with the waiter and the chef and left feeling happy with the adventure. It's pricey so be forewarned. I found the uniqueness of the flavors, the attention paid by the chef and the drinkologist to flavor, balance, presentation and the civilized atmosphere to be worthy of the cost. If I want a hearty meal I can head up to the Frontier but for an outstanding intimate meal Wolf & Swallow wins.
