I wanted to highly recommend going to the Lazy Lizard Restaurant in Cedar Crest, NM, for lunch. My husband and I went a week ago and had the guacamole bacon bleu cheese burger with sweet potato waffle fries and regular fries and it was the best meal ever!! The service was great and the prices are reasonable. They open at noon and we will definitely be going again! read more

We liked our green chile sausage sandwich and blue cheese guacamole bacon burger in this family friendly bar and grill! We were hungry following a hike and dropped in at 4 to find a decent band playing danceable covers of everyone from Prince to The Stones. Adults were dancing, the kids were dancing, and the food was good. They were slammed so the kitchen was slow, but the toe tapping music made the wait sweet. Sign said the live music is Friday-Sunday evenings and they have trivia and other promotions on other nights. I was pleasantly surprised! We stopped in on a whim and had one of the BEST chicken sandwiches I've ever had. It wasn't greasy, the chicken was crispy, and the produce was nice and fresh! Overall it was a cute place and they had board games you can use while you wait for your food. We missed the band, but it looks they had some live entertainment. Lunch time on a nice day for a motorcycle ride. We waited until a heavy tourist area to stop. As we pulled into the parking lot there were more motorcycles there. Ok this may be a nice place to eat. There was plenty of room for our group to sit together, albeit at different tables. Service was slow considering the number of diners. A server finally arrived at our table to take the order - Lazy Lizard Philly, Hellbender Salad and the Green Chile Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Drinks came fast, followed closely by our food. By consensus the food was delicious. The Philly was loaded with moist meat, lots of veggies & topped with a lot of cheese. The Grilled Cheese came with lots of chile in the cheese, great flavor without being unbearably hot. The salad was fairly basic, with thinly sliced, well seasoned chicken & green chile ranch dressing. It was great tasting and more than enough to eat. Overall the meal was great, even with the slow service I'm glad we stopped and will be back soon! read more

Located on RT 14 half the way between Albuquerque and Madrid, the Lazy Lizard is uniquely positioned. This venue serves many folks who travel this road and stop for gas at the Shell station just next door. It's also a favorite biker hangout - especially on sunny days when out for a ride. I appreciate this business and its employees. Come for beer and some music on weekends but think about bypassing the food. I can recommend the onion rings which are spectacular, but otherwise, I can't recommend the food. I visited recently with five friends. Two ordered the Philly steak and they both complained that the beef was neither fresh nor moist. They asked for au jus sauce - you know, the natural juice from the beef but they did not have any. The bun looked toasted and nice, but the sandwich did not make the cut for either person. This sandwich is priced at 13.99. Three in our party opted for the salmon salad. They expected that their $15.99 salad would have a piece of salmon on top but it came with bits and pieces of crumbled salmon. A true disappointment for the price. We all tipped generously, and we also added tips to the band's jar. We did enjoy the music and beer, and we also loved the onion rings. We all agreed we would come back for the beer and music but not for the food. Live and learn... read more

I had a project east of albuquerque, so I came home through Cedar Crest, looking to eat at a "specific" spot - it was closed! We ended up stopping at this place that's been here for nearly 18 years - never knew that. We walked in and it was empty except for a gal playing pool and an ol' guy at the corner of the bar sipping on a beer; with just the right lighting environment, this scene was right out of a movie! It's a great brew pub and diner, with walls outfitted with all sorts of metal lizard sculptures and a wrap around bar that'll seat twenty easy! Quite a few tables wrap around the bar, making it a great place for one person or a whole family! The wifey and I sat at the bar and ordered a philly cheese steak and burger, with sweet potato waffle fries and onion rings. We thoroughly enjoyed them! Cooked just right and some great flavor! The philly came with green chile - yes! Gotta love it. The hostess/waitress/barmaid - she was the only one we saw that actually worked the front of the house - was cheerful and fun! She did a great job with the whole shebang! There is a whole slew of beers on tap that one can order and several drinks if you're not a beer drinker (I ordered a hard cider-just don't like beer, but don't get me started on a good whiskey!). We recently moved to the east mountain area, so this was our first visit. We went to listen to the band- they were great (Beg, Borrow and Steal)! Unfortunately, nothing else was because the wait staff was so rude. The looks on their faces and body language said it all- never a smile and acted like they wanted to be any where but there! We had to constantly wave them over to order drinks, food- even water; when they came over, it was like we were a major inconvenience! Having never been here but live just up the road in santa fe we decided to take a drive. Not worth the time or the gas to get there. Waitstaff was rude...I mean actually displeased and put out that she had to take care of customers. The food was meh...beef was dry, salad seemed skimpy for the price. We went on a Saturday afternoon to listen to the band Towhead. My co--worker Kathleen is the drummer. We enjoyed the drive and the scenery. Lazy Lizard is a pretty big place and very dog friendly. The menu is huge! We ate a pizza and it was really good and the cider we ordered was mice and cold. We order the molten lava cake and tiramisu for dessert. Pure heaven! We did have an issue with the waitress and the checks but that was quickly sorted out. I highly recommend taking a drive up to the Lazy Lizard! read more

We were tent camping nearby at Turquoise Trail Campground and the camp host recommended The Lazy Lizard nearby. It was getting late and everything on the mountain closes at 9 PM on weekdays so we hightailed it over and arrived at about 15 minutes before closing. A burly bearded man greeted us as we got out of the truck and advised that they were going to be closing soon. We gave him puppy dog eyes and a look that we were starving and he said "come on in". That was a great way to start a beautiful friendship. The place was filled with locals. We didn't interact but everyone seemed friendly, kind of like a Cheers crowd. We were pleasantly struck by the large number of live plants throughout the place, not something one would expect at a bar in the mountains. Our new friend got us some cold beers (so needed after a long day of driving) and recommended the King Cobra pizza. We went along with that option because we had unbalanced appetites and could eat as much as each of us felt comfortable doing. At $12.95 the pizza was a decent size. I liked the thin and crispy crust and the abundance of toppings including fresh herbs and pine nuts, which made it totally unique. Whoever owns this place seems to know how to do it right. If I lived in the area I would probably be a regular. So that means I have to rate it pretty high. I think an easy 4 stars. read more

There isn't much of a choice for restaurants in Sandia Park or Cedar Crest which is why this place is still in business. They are chronically understaffed so the service is exceedingly slow, whether it is taking your order, bringing your food or drinks or even a check. Talk about a prime location to reach both the winter crowds and the summer activity crowds as well. A true entrepreneur dream really. I was part of a mountain rescue team in uniform meeting there long before closing time to have a drink and pizza after a recovery. The server was the rudest individual that I had ever had at any venue. We were a party of maybe 12 which was clearly more than she wanted to deal with. She came with too few menus and we said no problem we can share and that made her worse. When she asked how we were splitting checks we said all individuals if that's easiest.
