Dog-friendly seating? Off to a good start. We decided to do some wine tastings and share a charcuterie board. There was a different employee in this part of the winery. My husband mentioned that he couldn't have gluten and asked if there was a gluten-free alternative to the bread/crackers. Imagine my surprise when the board arrived with... tortilla chips. For a place that also specializes in gourmet foods, I was expecting something a little more exciting than chips. Gluten-free crackers, anyone? The wines were nice, and we really enjoyed sitting outside. The only other slight downer was the service. When I went inside for another tasting, I casually asked the server, "How's your day going?" His response: "I'm here." Well... I guess technically that answers the question. Clearly, he was having an off day. It happens, but you can't help but pick up on that energy when you're trying to relax and enjoy some wine. Overall, we had a nice time, enjoyed the patio with our pup, and even bought a bottle of Tighty Whitey White to take home. A couple of little misses, but nothing that would keep us from coming back.

Alec greeted us right away and set us up in a gorgeous corner of the patio. From there, the evening just got better and better. The menu at Crafted is AMAZING. There are a ton of local wines and you can opt to do a flight if you're curious. I did a port flight and loved it. I don't often see this on menus so it was a welcome surprise. Each pour in the flight was delicious and I loved getting to sample some local products. My fiancé got a glass of red from local winery Gruet, and later found out from Alec that it was a special, limited-edition wine from a partnership between Gruet and Crafted. Apparently you can't find it in stores, so this is the place to come for it! When I saw that vase in the window I was so drawn to it. When I went into the gallery and met Suzanne she told me about the vase and Ira, and gave me space to get to know the vase. When I did decide that I had to buy it for my son and his girlfriend Suzanne agreed to ship it for me, but that's not all. She even wrote a very personal letter to them telling them about Ira and his background, and how the vase was made. Fortunately it arrived in San Francisco unbroken and they were delighted. Thank you Suzanne for making the whole experience so wonderful. I will come to see you whenever I am in Albuquerque.

We stumbled on this beautiful gallery as we were leaving and had a wonderful tour. The director of the gallery is very knowledgeable about our New Mexican artists, has assembled a marvelous collection, and took the time to give us a thorough understanding of the artists, their work and techniques. Our caregiving friend was particularly struck by a glass canteen by Ira Lujan. When we were home, a considering all our friend has done e for us we wanted to acquire the canteen as a gift, but weren't sure how to get it before she had to leave for home. Suzanne, the gallery's director, went above and beyond! She arranged for us to choose the exact one that caught our friend's eye, packaged it and have it delivered to us the same day. Our caregiver was so surprised and truly moved when she opened the package. She's collected many pieces of art in her international travels but she said none so special as Lujan's canteen. If you are ever in Albuquerque, we highly recommend a visit. You are in fir a treat!

Before leaving the shop, we received helmets and bikes, which were adjusted to fit us (and the shop had a huge pump bottle of sunscreen). It was a great way to cruise through some areas of Albuquerque that we wouldn't otherwise have seen. My only disappointment was that the Rio Grande River was bone dry - but I can't fault Routes for that!
