I have been a Sheehan wine club member since it almost began. I think Sean and Laurie call me their oldest member. That may be both by age and length of membership! I rarely drink anything besides Sheehan wine. I really like the fact that Sean doesn't use any more sulfites than absolutely necessary so it is much healthier. I started out only liking sweet wines Ceillo Dulce was my fave. Then I had COVID and my taste buds changed. Now dry. Ollphiest is my favorite. Barbara was a fave when Sean had it. Terrible service. I came in alone and still had to ask multiple times just to get a server to come to my table. It took far too long to even place an order. Over 45 minutes total to even order, which is unacceptable. When my food finally arrived, it came without bread, so I couldn't even eat it. I then had to wait again for the bread and my wine. To top it off, when I asked for a to-go container, I was told they don't have any and was offered baggies instead. That's pretty unbelievable. Overall, slow, inattentive, and frustrating service. It was my first visit to this wine tasting room. There was a large group on the patio in front of the building where the tastings are held. They were having a grand time. As I walked into the tasting room area, which is also where the wine is produced, I was greeted very warmly by Sean the owner. The next to greet me was Lori. I got seated and took a picture or two while I waited for my group of four to arrive. Once our tasting comments both Lori and a lovely young woman by the name of Lyric both served our wine offerings. They brought us a cheese and cracker platter gratis. We were also furnished with a list of about 15 different wines. This was a formal organized type of tasting. In the future, they will begin charging I believe $10 for tasting for non-members, but currently the tastings are actually free. Most of the wineries in Albuquerque and Corrales charge for tastings and sometimes they give you a credit towards purchases. The model here I think works too since everyone in our our party purchase a minimum of two bottles of wine. There was no push we didn't feel pressured. In fact, Lori lyric and Sean were delightful and provided so much information to us that we just felt excited about making our wine purchases. If you are in Old Town you have to stop by the Sheehan tasting room in Old Town. Their wine is divine and my favorite in New Mexico. You can tell that it is produced by love and dedication to quality. You can do a tasting of several wines and decide on your favorite. Then order a glass of your favorite and sit inside or in their outdoor patio. They held a grape picking event with YELP Elites. Grapes from a one acre vineyard were picked on Saturday. In two years, the fruit of these efforts will be bottled. I love visiting Sheehan Winery. I went with some friends recently for a small group, socially distanced tasting. I needed my wine fix! They do a great job explaining the origins and processing of the various wines, and the wine club is a great deal! Sheehan offers many varieties, including quite a few reds, whites, roses, and even a few port and dessert wines. Along with the informative tasting discussion, each tasting includes a plate of palate cleansers such as crackers, cheese cubes, Apple slices, water, etc. My favorite wines are slainte (mild, fruity red) and two whites, Malvasia Bianca and Vidal Blanc. When we were first invited to join some friends for a wine tasting, I kept trying to picture it nestled in the south valley. We arrived at the address listed in my invite. This place is local. It doesn't look like much driving past it on the street, but they have a wine tasting area set up in the backyard and indoor storage for their wines and tasting. They've been doing tastings every weekend and the booking sure goes fast (they have half hour slots, but we probably spent close to 2 hours there). They gave us a tray of 4 cheeses - the Dubliner (like a sharp cheddar), Blarney Castle (gouda-style cheese from Ireland), Merlot Bellavitano (rich, creamy cheese with berry and plum notes of merlot), and a Havarti. We were able to try close to 16 wines (small portions, don't worry) ranging from dry to sweet. Wasn't a huge fan of the dry, but that's just personal preference. We ended up leaving with one of their "Cielo Dulce" , a 70% Riesling brand with hints of orange and honey. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. If you want, you can join the wine club and get to try 3 wines per quarter at 20% off. Very cool experience! I have some grapes growing in my backyard and I would harvest them every year but this was even more fun!

This is my third visit to Sheehan; the first was a Yelp event, the second a tasting pre-Covid, and today's a tasting mid-Covid. The tastings are free and you sign up for a private time slot for their web site; I didn't count but we tasted roughly 15 wines? We booked a time for three of us, and I called ahead and asked if they minded setting us up outside; they kindly accommodated. (I'm camp "don't take the mask off indoors," but you can do the tasting inside if you're cool with that.) We all ended up buying a bottle or two (which you should definitely do, their wines are great and they have something for everyone. I love their sweet whites, especially the Riesling.) The people are lovely, the wines are great, and it was a rare fun and also covid-safe experience during this very weird year. Great place for a small, distanced gathering and also, get your holiday wine figured out while you're at it. This is simply my favorite winery and Sean Sheehan is the best wine maker in New Mexico. One of the things I love about the tastings in the south valley is that Sean teaches You about how the wine is made, what grapes are used, the differences in processing a cabernet from a syrah or chardonnay, etc. I love supporting local entrepreneurs. A few of us actually participated in the grape picking out at the Bosque Farms vineyard in September. He doesn't charge for his tastings...quite unusual for vineyards in this day and age. He also makes most of his wine available for tasting. We sampled over 12 selections. Yes it does cost more than 3 buck chuck but it also tastes superior. Sean gives great deals when You buy a case, 12 bottles...4 bottles free this last weekend...one free with 6. They serve crackers, cheese & fruit. The ambiance is good. Our favorite winery in NM. Been coming out to the winery for 5 years and have watched this outfit improve every year. Love the Pinot Gris, nice nose, not too dry not too sweet. This wine is very drinkable, with or without food. Our other favorite is the reserve Cabernet. For a sweeter palette, try Cielo Dulce or Dana's Sweet Red. The owner is very friendly and if you get on his email list once a month he has a wine tasting and you are welcome to bring along other guests. Enjoyed an afternoon at their Bosque Farms location (grapes only and private residence) Sean showed us some of the different styles of grapes being grown at that location. They grow grapes at this location, South Valley, Las Cruces and Corrales. When tasting the wines, White and Red, you could taste the different flavors from the different areas the grapes were grown in. I don't claim to be any kind of expert on wine but I do know what I like and Sheehan Winery hits the mark on several levels. We had an opportunity to meet the small team that makes this winery happen. Hats off to their accomplishment but first comes the wine. I'll usually go for a Cabernet but there's something special about their Chambourcin. The Grand Reserve Cabernet was a close second among the non-sweet options. The bottles are individually numbered and topped with wax by hand so these bottles offer something special if you're looking for a nice gift. The owner, Sean Sheehan, combines his scientific education with over 10 years of experience to the art of growing these grapes in New Mexico. There are many specific steps from end to end in making a good bottle of NM wine and Sean embraces the process. I respected his matter of fact explanation of what it takes and how he pretty much says, if I'm going to do this, I'm going to do it right. Their efforts have paid off because they're selling out. Sean also seems quite content making the best quality wine he can, without a desire to take over the world or being the next big seller at a major distributor. Someone asked him about growing their own grapes and he quickly offered to share any information he could. That's the kind of culture and knowledge sharing that I also love about Albuquerque's local beer scene. It's all about a love of the craft. Fun fact (which you probably already know). Ever so slightly tucked away in Albuquerque's Old Town square (ye olde 'Basket Shop') is local Sheehan Winery's new tasting room. The renovated space is inviting and warm, and so are the servers, Trish and Ann. They are fun, friendly, knowledgeable, conversational, and professional. Trish is a lifetime resident of ABQ and has many other places of interest to recommend if you're from out of town. And the wines are spectacular, as usual. My favorite thing about Sheehan Winery isn't the wine (although it is delicious!) My favorite thing about Sheehan Winery is Sean Sheehan himself. He is friendly, welcoming, and crazy passionate about winemaking. If you ask him any question about the process, the grapes, local wine, even the chemistry of New Mexico's soil, you will get a detailed, intelligent answer. I love feeling like I know the wine I'm drinking! I first met Sean through a Yelp event sometime last spring, and have since seen him at more Yelp Events, local wine festivals, and at several of the tastings he does in his own backyard (if you're not on his email list/facebook page yet, you are missing out, friend!) I'm not a wine expert, but I do love wine, and I love to learn! Whenever I pop open a bottle of the Chambourcin (my favorite, the reserve of which recently won Best Wine in NM!) I really enjoy the fact that I know the person who made it - and how it was made! My best friend Hannah and I are both huge fans - I bought her a bottle of Chambi for her birthday and she loved it! I am not a fan of Sheehan wines, but of Sheehan himself he is a very likable guy. Firstly, the wines are very expensive for the quality. We found all the wines bitter at the front of our palate and no finish at the end. I could be much more specific, but I think it is wonderful that Sheehan has a faithful following because everyone should drink what they enjoy no matter what anyone else thinks. Hopefully we will meet him again sometime and have a more in-depth conversation on the subject of wine. read more

First of all, this guy knows his stuff and is very engaging. For the first time in my life I found chemistry interesting...granted it was about wine but it still counts! He has a vast amount of experience in wine making and is a true entrepreneur. I love to support local businesses and it doesn't get any more local than this wine. I enjoyed learning about wine with Sean Sheehan when he gave us a private tour of one of their vineyards. Sean is very knowledgeable and open to any questions about the craft and growing the crops. He combines his biology/chemistry knowledge along with years of working for winery's to make the best wine he can in the region. We also got to sample all the wines they produce and he explained how they are made. There is no doubt you will find a favorite at Sheehan Winery. My favorites were the cabernet and the riesling.
