We were in town visiting from Arizona. The family member we were with invited us to go there for a wine tasting with a social group. Right away I noticed that the chairs are wobbly. The waitress took a long time to start taking our orders. To the point we all decided what we wanted. Then when she came she told us because our group was so large, they could not do mimosa flights. About 10 of the 15 people were all disappointed because that's what we literally went there for. The waitress was short with us and even when we asked for more water, she put two bottles down for the whole group. Which we went through quickly. The food was ok but the bar literally took almost 30 minutes to get the 4 mocktails to the table that were ordered. Overall it could have been just a bad day for them but I'm lucky I don't live in this city because I would never go back again. read more

A Welcoming Gem with Delicious Wine and Charcuterie Trevor was incredibly sweet and helpful--his hospitality made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. The space itself is fantastic, with a variety of cozy spots to sit and savor a glass of wine. Even the outdoor areas feel inviting, despite being close to the highway. The wine selection is impressive and delicious. It was such a treat to sample so many different varieties--I only wish we lived nearby so we could work our way through the entire menu! Several years ago we ordered several cases of Gruet bubbly for my daughter's wedding from our local wine store. I really didn't pay any attention to where the wine came from -- all I knew then was that it was pretty good. Years later, we spent a month in Albuquerque and "Surprise!" The Gruet Winery is in Albuquerque. So we had to stop in for a tasting--and we headed home with a case and membership in their wine club! Before selecting our case to take home, we ordered a flight of bubbly with a charcuterie board to enjoy between glasses. The place was a bit understaffed the day we were there and they apologized that a few items that were usually included on the charcuterie board were not available -- but that really didn't matter to us as we enjoyed the wine and charcuterie was perfectly fine. If you like good American sparkling wine, you don't have to look all the way to California find one -- they do it perfectly well in New Mexico at the Gruet Winery. read more

The Tasting Room offers a variety Gruet wines (flights, glasses, and bottles) and lite food offerings. I had the Vinters Flight, a sample of full bodied reds. There was a great aroma when they were delivered to the table. I paired that with small Charcuterie plate that had a combination of meat, chese, fruit, veg, nuts and more. A good value when compared to others locations. The tasting room is situated inside a beautiful building with an inviting entrance. The service was friendly and attentive. There is a lot of seating. Starting with bar area tables, a more formal area, a 'barrel room', and also a small private table that can be reserved. Outdoor seating includes a nice cozy patio as well as natural area w/ trees and umbrellas and a rock fountains. Too bad it's next to the freeway, however it was still very enjoyable to dine outside. read more

Made a reservation via the website, which states that the "tasting room offers guests an immersive experience with scheduled winery tours, allowing visitors to learn about the winemaking process firsthand". Unfortunately, we were offered no such experience. Even after being seated and explaining to our server that we were first-time guests interested in learning about Gruet's wines and doing a tasting, she never sent anyone over to facilitate. Rather, she came back and asked if we were ready to place our order from the menu... Still unsure why our request was not understood / did not get fulfilled. Coming from Virginia, where facilitated wine tastings are the norm when you walk into a winery, the reception at Gruet was odd at best (unwelcoming at worst). Ended up ordering two flights but leaving promptly because the room's acoustics were too loud. Not a pleasant experience. Bummer... I'd been eager to visit with my family but not sure I want to return. read more

Bottom line: Gruet is still a star and wow have they stepped it up. Eat, drink and be merry here! Service: All the staff have always been pleasant and we really enjoy the events they host. If you aren't on their email list, you should be! Ambiance: I love this place because there are times it's quiet and others there's lots of people. Oh and don't forget to check out the outside seating if that's your thing. There are some wonderful spaces. I like being at the bar or in the back near the wine barrels. A delightful evening on the patio! Fire pit kept us warm, service was AMAZING (thanks, Sam!) and wine was lovely. I enjoy the Brut and Blanc de noir bubbly. Both solid, straightforward and very drinkable. My guest enjoyed the premium bubbly flight & an additional Sauvage. The way to go is ordering by the glass. There is a required corkage fee when purchasing a bottle to enjoy on site. It changed my approach to the evening, but nonetheless, a delightful experience. On October 6th, my three girlfriends and I went to a special Balloon Fiesta wine tasting at Gruet, and we had the best time! I recommend doing their sparkling wine flight, as this is what they are known for. We had a reservation to taste at the "cave" room. When we got there there service was a bit lacking, having to wait to even be greeted and to get someone to take our order after being seated. The girl who served us did not seem too friendly at the time but then realized she just had a dry personality and as we engaged her in conversation, we got to see her trying, smiling more and more pleasant. I really enjoyed the flight, which included a sparkling rose. The pours are generous, and after we enjoyed a glass of the one we liked most. The tasting rooms and outside are very nice, clean, and would love to go back to try some other of their wines and have another glass of their bubbly. read more

Went to a dinner at Gruet with a friend. They bring in a chef to create and serve the dinner . Your alcohol is a glass of their brut champagne ... it was delicious. Ms Martinez is a private chef. The dinner of posole, salad, bread and dessert (mini pumpkin donuts) was absolutely delicious. They listed the time from 6 to 8M. The seating area is small as is the parking lot. Not being a Member of the Gruet Wine Club we didn't know the setup. Turned out OK. Shared a table in the bar with a gal and her boyfriend. Meagan is a Club Member at Gruet and a residential realtor as was her friend. Had a delightful dinner with great conversation. My disappointment was that there was only one glass of champagne. The cost of the event was $45 plus tax... essentially $50. Thought it was a bit pricey. Did share a gless of the Rose wine with my friend. We paid for it. The Staff at Gruet was exceptional. We agreed to go back for a tasting in the near future. read more

This is two separate reviews: one of the winery itself on any given day and one of their brunch that requires a pre-purchased ticket. A gf and I went to Gruet on a random Saturday for wine flights and nibbles. The staff was friendly and informative. They have a membership available that gives you a set amount of bottles per season and a free glass for you and a friend. My friend ended up signing up. We got a couple flights and a couple glasses as well as a charcuterie board. Don't go there expecting real food like I did. I should also mention that there's not a lot of seating and the side room we sat in got very loud when a boisterous group sat down close to us. All in all, I'd give this place a 3/5. The same gf and I decided to try this place on a Sunday brunch which required buying tickets a month in advance. We had heard good things and since the tickets sell out, we had high expectations. The same nice staff were there and the same wine selections of course. We heard the food was catered by M'Tucci's which is supposed to be a good Italian restaurant (but I've never been). The food was just sad. For $50/person I was expecting a decent spread buffet style or a small a la cart menu with bottomless mimosas. What we got was one plate of cold food served on a plastic plate with plasticware and a 4 glass limit. The eggs Benedict sat on tough super chewy English muffins that were so hard my friend broke a tine off her plastic fork trying to cut through it. It was accompanied by a reheated danish that could've come from Costco (no shade to Costco but it didn't taste fresh). The bubbly did come with an assortment of freshly squeezed juices to make your own mimosas. I would/will absolutely never come back for brunch. The only saving grace was how nice the staff are. Overall 3/5 for brunch. read more

This winery has also been on my list for quite some time, since my parents moved to ABQ 4-ish years ago. It seems my most recent visit to the city was basically a ticking-things-off-the-wishlist kind of trip. We stopped in on a weekend, after a long hike and having already sampled some local hard cider. We were greeted and given a quick run down of how tastings work. We sat ourselves at a high top table in the center of the tasting area and perused the menu. From there, table service for tasting is offered. There is also a bar that you can stand and do a tasting at, but you are not left high and dry if you opt to sit at a table. Daniel was a great tasting host! Knowledgeable and friendly, quick with the tasting notes and ready to answer any dumb question we threw his way. Again, as I was there with family, we decided to get different flights to maximize our sampling options. My mom and sister got the daily tasting flight, and I opted for the Vintage Sparkling Flight. They specialize in dry sparkling wines. So if you are all about the sweets...you may not love the offerings here. I tend to prefer sweeter wines, but I am always ALWAYS down to try new things. And I was very happy with everything I got to sample! I didn't buy anything to take with me, as it would be difficult to transport home to another state. But we had such an enjoyable experience and a great time here, I would absolutely return in a future visit. Absolutely worth stopping in if you are in the ABQ! read more

This was our second visit to the tasting room. Like the first time we had a lovely time, my bride of 30 years and I. The wine was of course amazing. We had the Reserve Still Wine Flight and a cheese board. Nothing special about the cheese board thought is was nicely built and presented, but the atmosphere and wine were beyond compare: absolutely outstanding. Our server was Sam and he was a joy to work with. [Insert exclamation points if you like. I think they are overused, but here are a few for those that like them. !!!!] the service in our previous visit was also outstanding. We loved our visit here! Being so close to Napa and Sonoma wine country, I've had my fair share of wine tasting experiences. Gruet not only tasted great, but the experience was exactly like it is in Napa. It was a beautiful venue with tasteful decor throughout. The staff was very engaging and friendly and the prices were totally reasonable. What an incredible experience! This place exceeded all our expectations. Trish was the best! We really enjoyed all the wine. We tried about 15 different types of wines. The best was the Gilbert and the reserve Pinot noir. If you are local they have a wine club with lots of great perks. My recommendation, get a flight and a cheese board. read more

For as long as I've been in Albuquerque, I think I can count how many times I've been here on one hand and I'm pretty sure it's no more than twice ages ago before I got more into wine. That being said, I figured it would be fun for us to check it out as a surprise on a summer afternoon after seeing the suggestion on Yelp and the great reviews. I'm so glad that I gave this another chance! Not that it was bad before by any means, I think I was just a punk kid that preferred cosmopolitans and appletinis at the time. It was a long time ago- don't judge. It was jam packed but still comfortable with a modern, slightly bougie but not too stuffy interior. We each got a different tasting flight so we could try different things. Our waitress, Amanda, was amazing and we were able to try some very unique things that I didn't even know Gruet produced (and I am generally a Gruet fan!)- a still Pinot Meunier? Now that is not something you see everyday! We are definitely planning on returning now that we've grown up and become refined enough to appreciate wine. Ha! Whether you just like wine or a bit of a snob, there's something for everyone. If sparkling isn't your bag, they have a good variety of still wines as well that are worth checking out. I'd put these wines up against some great California ones any day and the prices are very reasonable. Check it out! Great spot for a nice break in the day or for something to start date night off on the right foot. Well the wife twisted my arm to come to Gruet. TBH, I am not the biggest sparkling wine fan, but I know she wanted to go. And some one once told me, happy wife, happy life.... We had a flight of wines which consisted of sauvage, sauvage rose, Demi sec... they were all good, I liked the sauvage... not too sweet! But the real champ was the beermosa.... which was a mixture of sauvage and a marble double white! Amazing! Loved it! The wife had a hibiscus rose! Which was good! The lady helping us was amazing! She was so helpful and we had some good convos! The place is a bit pricey, and I felt a little out of place cuz there were a lot of females on friend dates... LOL but all seriousness it was good. Another great find in ABQ! Go with a small group, or go with someone special (ok, I went with my daughter, and she's pretty special :-) We tried two "sample" flights and really enjoyed trying out so many different flavors while getting a mini-lesson on the grapes and the winemaking. Good service, but when mid-to-busy, you'll have to flag them down. Oh, and see if the side room (to the right as you enter), is available. After trying and enjoying a glass or two of Gruet Chardonnay at a wine bar in Santa Fe, I convinced Hubby to stop by the winery on our way back into Albuquerque before our flight home. I decided to try their still wine tasting and Hubby tried the premium sparkling tasting-since his flight had a couple more wines than mine, they added a couple sparkling tastes to mine, which was a nice touch. Most of their whites and sparkling wines I liked fine, but I did not like their reds. We decided to buy one bottle of the sparkling and two bottles of the Chardonnay. The tastings however are a bit pricey in my opinion ($12 & $14) and were not waived when we bought 3 bottles. It was a nice experience and, as I am now a fan of their reasonably priced ($14) Chardonnay, I would return on another trip. read more

I didn't understand some things and instead of explaining the process nicely, she raised her voice with attitude, got defensive, and never returned. Not very professional. I went here for their special brunch which is advertised as a catered brunch with M'Tucci's, offering a fresh and seasonal menu. The waitstaff were great as were the juice pairings for the mimosas, but the food associated with the brunch itself was extremely disappointing. It definitely didn't feel fresh or seasonal. The food was some scrambled eggs, some bacon, something that looked like hash, a piece of toast, some fruit, and a chocolate muffin. There wasn't a way to tell them I was vegetarian when we bought the tickets, or at least none that we could find. I gave the meat to my friend, but the eggs must have been cooked with it because they tasted like bacon - so I didn't really eat much of that. I told the waitress and she did bring me a plate of fruit which was lovely and very nice of her, but I was expecting more from a catered brunch from M'tucci's having been there many times. Gruet knows how to make wine! Hands down the best wine in the area we tried. I am not a huge champagne drinker but each sparkling wine they produce is delicious...definitely the best I've had..from bottles that were triple the cost. The winery itself is beautiful. The staff extremely helpful and friendly. Lovely patio and plenty of indoor seating. No food available but you can absolutely bring your own in! We sampled all the sparkling wines and red wines, not one we didn't like! We took bottles home for ourselves and gifts...wish we lived closer! Highly recommend stopping here! Favorites for champagne were the Savage and red wines the red blend and cab. We took home a bottle of the pinot that was light and easy to drink for anyone! read more

Upon arrival, it felt like we entering a castle. 5 of us girls had decided to spend our afternoon in the tasting room and gossiping. We picked off the summer flight menu (5 flights for $7), and I honestly couldn't tell you which ones we tried but there was quite the variety from reds to whites to rosés to sweet wines to dry wines (which I wasn't as much of a fan of). It was a relaxing afternoon and our server explained a little history of the place (although I wish tours were given as well). I'm a slow drinker, but our server never had a problem coming back before refilling. A few in our group decided to go after the souvenir wine glasses for $10 each. Great experience here. Gruet is known for their sparkling wines. I recommend doing a custom flight where you choose 4 wines to try. They don't serve food but you are allowed to bring outside food. Very nice indoor/outdoor seating areas and great service from the staff. If you are visiting from out of town, they sell wine travel bags (for airplane) for $2.99 so that helps if you plan to buy a bottle and bring it on a plane.
