We saw Slappys on our way to the Food Truck Park and decided that we were going to stop in the next morning. When we arrived, the restaurant was pretty empty, so we were seated immediately. We looked at the menu, and my wife wanted to cook your own pancakes at your table. You order the type of pancake batter you like (buttermilk, chocolate, etc), and fixin's (chocolate chips, whipped cream, etc). The batter comes out in a squeeze bottle, and you cook your pancakes on a griddle built into your table. I tried one of the pancakes, and it was delicious. I, on the other hand, had the spinach and grilled onion scramble, and it was excellent. We advise you to arrive early, because by the time we were leaving, the place had filled up. read more

They do not clean the griddles, I just watched them clean the tables and seat area with a dirty rag and then wipe the griddle with the same dirty rag and cover it ready for the next person! read more

I had never seen a tabletop griddle in the middle of the table concept. While I didn't try it this go-around I may on a future visit. The burrito was good. The banana bread French toast was ok. I honestly didn't know what to expect. It sounded unique. I compare it to grilling a blueberry muffin vs a french toast using banana bread. read more

We got the DIY buttermilk pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream and a breakfast burrito. Making the pancakes was so fun and eating them off the grill with that crisp is great. They give a generous amount of toppings. The breakfast burrito was mid. Overall vibes kinda feels like a more upscale Norms/Dennys. I would recommend for the pancake experience. read more

I really enjoyed this place. The candied bacon with brown sugar and macadamia nuts crushed on top was worth the $12. The avocado toast was great. My husband enjoyed his pancakes very much. The service on our first visit was just ok and on our second visit it was better. read more

Got a coupon for a free batter with any meal order. I had never been to a Slappy Cakes, so decided to try here for breakfast. The staff was very friendly and promptly led me to my table. I found loco moco and ordered it "my usual" way of eggs over medium and gravy on the side. I ordered the special peanut butter batter. It was enough batter to make four small pancakes. The loco moco was very good. The pancakes turned out okay, thus the four stars. read more

Went here twice while on vacation. The kids enjoy making their own pancakes. The loco moco is fine, my wife likes it more than me. They over charge for their bloody Mary's. The house Bloody Mary is $14 with $2 discount during their happy hour at 8am. I got charged $17 for it, twice. You tell them the house bloody and they will up charge you. It will get busy after 9am. read more

We asked our server how many toppings were included and were told 2-3, when ordering the make your own pancakes. To our surprise, we were charged $4 for every single topping ordered. She told us she would get the manager and returned with a discount card (to be used if you return to the restaurant at a later date) that was given to us with our check already. When the manager came, he was unapologetic about the miscommunication and a bit argumentative. Really off putting experience to start my birthday morning. read more

Went here for some late breakfast fare. Service was pretty good and the restaurant was definitely very clean. My main concerns arise from the food. The food here was just not very impressive to me. There wasn't a whole lot of variety on the menu and the food itself was nothing special. I didn't feel as though the quality was different from like a Dennys. I was very excited to try this place but ended up disappointed. read more

Slappy Cakes - Grand Slam with POG - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

This is a big yes for us every time we visit Maui (with and without our 8 yo!). There will inevitably be a wait but usually only about 10-20 minutes and worth it. It's pretty spacious inside and well set up to fit many and flow. We love making our own pancakes as it keeps everyone occupied (busy children, adults suffering from too many Mai tais consumed the night before...). We also ordered a side of bacon and the loco moco because we must! So good. We included sides of chocolate chips, strawberries and lemon curd and had fun being creative with shapes and toppings. We did a buttermilk batter and usually we do Taro too but it wasn't on the menu; they seem to have gone away from that in the last 7 years and towards a rotating flavored batter: it was apple pie-ish which sounded ok but not what we wanted. Coffee is meh (watery); but our server was fantastic and prompt! read more

Great spot for breakfast! I'm not even a fan of pancakes and I still enjoy it. Fun for little kids and the little kids at heart, with non-pancake options for those so inclined. Service is satisfactory and the place is always clean. read more

Fun, definitely fun and a must if you have kids. The kids loved it. Everything was super easy. Drinks were great!! The only thing was there were quite a few ants on the table. They said they were going to spray tomorrow. read more

This is a great place if you're into all things pancake as I am. I loved the chill vibe of this place - no rush, you're on Maui time now!! The best thing about Slappy Cakes is being able to score one of the tableside griddles to make your own (definitely recommend making a reservation or coming in early to do so!) There are lots of different breakfast options to choose from outside of pancakes (but you also can't go wrong with just pancakes!) Service was good and friendly- which is always a plus. I love how everyone friendly this place is, so there is definitely something for everyone here. There is parking available outside but also easy to get a rideshare to and from if you are staying at a nearby resort. read more

This is a great find! I assumed by the location it would be a tourist trap but instead we found great food, great value, and a great atmosphere. We were here for a week and this was the best place we ate though it was far from the most expensive! Will be back! read more

Good was delicious with fast friendly service. It was great to have gluten free options as we had a couple folks in our group of six requiring it. No extra cost for gluten free a big plus! Casual family dining another plus with our toddler. read more

They get a few points for having an option for gluten free batter, but otherwise it's pretty gimmicky and the food is meh. They also recently raised their prices and now you're paying top dollar to make your own mediocre pancakes. It works as a way to entertain the kids but given that kids eat free or cheap in a lot of places on the island, you will eat better and for a better value elsewhere. read more

This place is what all pancake lovers should want to visit! Friendly staff and great vibes! Food is absolutely delicious! But the Hawaiian pancakes are the ultimate attraction here! Oh and strong hot coffee. You can cook your own pancakes ... we opted out of this activity, but the people that went for it looked like they were having fun! Definitely stop by if you are a pancake lovers! read more

Quick and nice service. Food just was fairly basic. Burrito didn't have much flavor, the "chips" for the chorizo plate were under everything so they were soggy. Would recommend those being served on the side. It reminded me a little of dennys but seemed like it was a fun place for the grilling your own pancakes. Casual ambiance read more

What a cute experience for our family! Our kids (7 and 4) loved being able to make their own pancakes. I think our son preferred making them versus eating them, haha. We did a bottle of the buttermilk batter with whipped cream and chocolate chips for fixings. The fixings were $3 each and were large sizes - it didn't even look like we used them at all. We also had an order of the cinnamon roll pancakes. Those were really great! Overall, we loved the experience for our kids. If we came back without kids, we would have probably sat at a regular table versus a griddle table. The service was okay - they were busy but we didn't need anything once our food was delivered. They have shorter hours (7am-12pm). We got there around 9:30am and the wait was 30-35 minutes. We waited around 25, but there's a lot of seating outside to wait. They have a cute little merchandise section if you wanted to buy shirts, cups, etc. read more

The breakfast options in Ka'anapali are somewhat limited but we try to hit Slappy Cakes at least once each time we're in Maui. We were seated immediately upon arrival which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the Carnitas Benedict and it was really good. Plenty of meat and the eggs were perfectly poached. But the best part of the meal was the Banana Bread French Toast. It is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend! read more

Great local breakfast spot! We lived the idea of being able to to make our own pancakes; we had fun! Service was great and quick. I've eaten here in the past, but today was such a let down. Do not order the avocado toast. The bread is enormous. With two eggs and too much balsamic vinegar for 21$ plus tip/ tax. What a rip off. read more

My wife and I were just looking for a place to eat breakfast. Instead, we were rewarded with an experience. We loved the griddle built into the table and that amazing coconut syrup. We came here because jt had good reviews. When we walked in it was lonely. The place was a bit dirty. The People there are friendly. The coffee was watered down. There wasn't anything too special about the food. Definitely needs more seasoning. The potatoes were hard. The bacon still had parchment paper on it. The breads were not even toasted and the jelly was watered down. I would've had a better experience. At a Denny's. read more

Slappy Cakes - I made myself buttermilk pancakes with banana, chocolate chips, whipped cream, and honey! It was AMAZING! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

I can't recommend Slappy Cakes unless you like the novelty of cooking your own pancakes at the table. Food review:: Banana bread French toast- two slabs of super sweet banana bread. Not much French toast about it. Grand Slap- scrambled eggs were overcooked (brown), bacon was decent. No butter put on the toast or the pancakes. Had to ask and they brought cold butter slabs in the foil wrapping. Also no jelly. They brought a small ramekin of soupy jelly. Meh. Potatoes were dry and pancakes are definitely below iHop in taste. Cinnamon roll cakes- nothing more than some cinnamon in the pancake batter and a dollop of super sweet cream cheese frosting on top. Drinks- Orange juice and apple juice (okay from a carton) and coffee which was not as good as the coffee made in my condo. Service- pretty good but had to ask for things that should have come with the meal (butter, jelly, ketchup) and water was never refilled. All in all I would not return and cannot recommend as a good breakfast place in Maui.. read more

Horrible experience. Waited 15 minutes at the table to just get water. Others seated after us we served way before us and we were only a party of two. Food not hot. Mediocre. We gave Slappy Cakes a try based on the good reviews. It was just okay. My teens liked it more than the grown-ups did. There is a griddle at each table and you have the option of making your own pancakes at your table. You can also have the kitchen prepare your pancakes for you. My husband and daughter order the seasonal batter which was a lemon poppy seed with some toppings. My daughter ordered a coconut syrup and husband had the lemon curd. They each got an 8 ounce squeeze bottle of batter and prepared their cakes at the table. My son and I ordered from the menu. I had the Hawaiian pancakes and my son had the cinnamon roll pancakes. The pancakes were just meh for me. I have had better pancakes. I probably won't be back. read more

Pancake My Eyes off of You Slappy Cakes brings the do-it-yourself (DiY) concept to breakfast, featuring everyone's favorite carb: pancakes. This is probably the most unique concept I've seen in a long time, as I've seen DiY KBBQ, steaks, fondue, hot-pot, and even pizza, but never pancakes. The Good: *DiY is really great if you have kids. My son loved making his own pancakes. *As an adult who does a lot of cooking and baking at home, I don't particularly want to do it in my leisure time either. :) That's why they have a normal non-DiY menu, as well. *Everything, including the Pancake mix, is all made in-house. *Make sure to ask for their housemade jam to go with your toast, or even on your pancakes! *I know this place is about the DiY and pancakes, but seriously, that Candied Bacon dish was done and dusted--out of this world good! Perfectly crisp, sweet, and a lovely crunch from both the bacon and concomitant macadamia nuts. You definitely need to get this. *Carissa loved her Brekky Hash that was loaded with loads of veggies and perfectly cooked eggs. *Service was very good. The Meh: *Kinda silly that the DiY pancakes is standard just the Pancake mix. They really should throw in one topping, but I get it as an easy moneymaker. *Wasn't a fan of my Hawaiian pancakes, as the batter was overcooked, resulting in tough pancakes, which is too bad since the toppings were really good. The Ugly: *Popular spot as there are lots of vacationing families traveling with kids that go here, and the tables with a grill are limited amount, so be prepared to wait. TLDR: Terrific place for breakfast with or without the DiY option engaged. read more
