I used Skybox to move from Manayunk to Center City. These guys showed up ahead of time, and were right on moving. They did not take any breaks, worked super hard and got all my moving done really quickly. I was very impressed by their agility, and their hard work. Not only the service was fantastic, but the pricing was fantastic as well. Also, Matt the guy who will set you up in the calendar for moving was very quick at responding to my emails and remained communicated with me through the whole process. I waited two months to review this company because I needed some time to get over how much my moving process sucked with them. First of all, Matt was great at scheduling, giving an estimate, and answering questions. But since he didn't have anything to do with the actual moving process...I can't really say it mattered. I moved from a one bedroom in west philly to a center city apartment- pretty simple. The guys showed up late ~ 20 minutes late. I met them in the parking lot of my building because they couldnt figure out how to park their MASSIVE moving truck on their own. I came down and they were smoking cigarettes next to their graffiti covered vehicle. It took them at least another 15 minutes to actually park and come up to my apartment...where they realized they forgot the dolly. So they went back to their truck and couldn't find it...because they forgot it. So now we are about 45 minutes past my start time and they begin moving things... My mom and I actually helped them bring boxes to the elevator to bring down because we were already so far behind schedule. The process would have been so much faster if they had not forgotten a dolly, and I would not have felt like I had to help because I was paying for them to carry one box at a time down my hallway. Matt had told me that the crew would be able to give me a ride to the new apartment, and when I asked them they laughed and said "ummm there isn't much room but if you don't mind smoking then fine" I hate smoking...so I got a cab. When I got to my new apartment they arrived more than 20 minutes after me...smoking again. I had asked Matt if I needed to get them a parking permit for my new street because I knew my location was zoned- he said no it was fine. Then of course the crew got a parking ticket and whined about that while they moved my stuff into the new apartment. They chipped the side of my dining room table and snapped the hanging wire on the back of a large piece of wall art. Nothing else was damaged. The whole day sucked. They were unprofessional and unprepared. I really don't enjoy paying people by the hour to smoke cigarettes. I called Matt towards the end of the process to let him know that I was displeased with the service, especially forgetting the dolly since I knew it added a lot of time to my move and required my mom and I to help. He tried to make things better by knocking a little bit off of my bill. But all in all the whole thing was terrible. I would NEVER use skybox again. read more

Due to the mixed reviews of this company, I just HAVE to review them to give them the credit that they deserved. I was helping out a friend who was moving to a new place. The movers were due to come at 3:00pm on Sunday. They called around 2:30pm to say that they were running late, approximately 15-20 minutes late. They eventually came at 4:00pm because there were tons of traffic. I was okay with it because they were straightforward and honest about it. Once they got here, they started moving the furniture that needed to be packed. My friend had an insane amount of furniture, that includes 2 beds, 3 couches, and 918273 drawers. (Okay not really but it felt like that). They were quick, professional, and efficient the whole time. Since they were working hard, and McDonald's was across the street, I grabbed them food and we took a break after loading all the furniture (I know I know, fast food is bad for you but it was across the street!). Once at the new place, I swear they performed a miracle or something. It was an enclosed staircase onto the second floor and whoever built the opening were not thinking straight because it was so damn small. The couches took forever to come up the stairs, and once it did, it took forever to get through the front door. For the third couch, they literally hoisted up over the railings in the front! I was amazed... and scared! They got everything in, the beds, couches, and 918273 drawers set to where we asked them to. They were very nice, very polite. Definitely did a solid job. I'm SO glad that my friend chose them to be his moving company because they definitely did not charge as much as other companies have quoted. But they still did just as good of a job, if not better, than those other companies would. If I had to move, definitely will call these guys! Shout out to Joe's crew !! A solid crew. I could not have asked for better work. They called to let me know they were running only 5 minutes behind schedule. Once they got to work they treated my time as valuable, and moved boxes in to the truck in a fast and timely fashion. Once we got to my new home, I had a second truck arrive. They unloaded both trucks, helped us put things together and helped us haul another piece of furniture to another location. I read so many reviews on all of the moving companies in Philly and I felt like there were really great reviews and horror stories for all of them. I went with Skybox because they had great availability and they were the quickest to respond to my request for a quote. Well I had an AMAZING experience with these guys. They moved me from Center City, Philadelphia to Eagleville from my 1 bedroom spiral stair apt in under 4 hours. They had the truck all packed up in 1 hour, which was the same amount of time it took me to pack my own car of valuable items. Either I dilly-dally a lot or these guys were on top of their game. I think it's the latter. If I could give these guys more than 5 stars I would because I was so hesitant with any moving company because of the bad reviews. But seriously, these guys are quick, very competitively priced and pleasant to be around. I hated every bit of packing and getting ready for the move and they made it painless. When I tried to help, they said "Nope, that's our job, you leave that to us." That made my day even easier. I will definitely use these guys again! read more

Skybox Movers are AWESOME. I scheduled a Thursday 2pm move a week before the date via email, and Matt was great in providing me with his liability info, confirmation of crew members, and even gave me a 5% off discount. Skybox had the most competitive rate for a 2-person crew for 2 hours-- roughly $150. All other moving companies who offered lower rates did not have insurance which is a red flag in my opinion. The movers, John and Scott showed up early for the 2pm move and were great! They were careful with all our large items (section sofa, bed frame, desks, tables, armchairs) and we could not have asked for better movers. I highly recommend Skybox and would not hesitate to use them for the next time we move! read more

We made a move from Philly to South Carolina and these guys busted their butts to make sure everything was on the truck fast, made the drive in one night, and unloaded the truck in record time. We were very happy with the scheduling. 3 guys arrived close to 9 and had our two-bedroom apartment (2nd and 3rd floor) moved in to the truck by 11. They grabbed a bite to eat and headed straight to SC and were there by the next morning to unload the truck by Noon the next day. This was great for us when compared to big-time movers like Atlas, who give you a two-week window of delivery and want to come to your place to get an estimate. We were worried that the truck wouldn't be big enough, but these guys are professionals and really made it work with room to spare. Communication-wise, they were great, too, calling me while en-route to keep me updated on where they were and all. In other words, they went out of their way to make us confident in their abilities, which is much appreciated when you have so much going on regarding a move! Just realized I had neglected to review these guys - we were moving out of our rowhome back in June 2013 into a couple storage/shipping pods bound for California, but we couldn't do it alone. We hired another moving company (whose name escapes me) to come help us out at 11am that day, but the11am came and went with nary a word from them. After calling multiple times (and freaking out sufficiently) we found these guys on Yelp and begged them to save us. They showed up around 3pm (on only a couple hours' notice) and worked tirelessly through the crazy heat and humidity to get us all packed in no time - even with our somewhat confusing system of identifying which boxes went in which pod. First time I used movers. These guys were great. Best price by far I heard when I was doing research. They really do work quickly to get the job done as soon as possible. I thought my massive couch wasn't going to fit into the doorway to my apartment, but they saved the day! They came with their own tools, took the pegs off, and willed it through on their necks and heads to my living room. I had Skybox Movers move my 1 bedroom apartment into storage pods to move to Texas last week. They were had everything packed into the storage pod in just over an hour - with a two hour minimum, they seemed in a bit of a hurry to load things up. My things arrived in Texas totally destroyed. They packed my FRAGILE items (clearly marked fragile on every side of the box) on the bottom - and had heavy non-fragile items stacked on top!!!! The worst part is that I didn't even have time to repack the boxes as I had to quickly put items in storage before catching a flight to the UK for two months. I would HIGHLY recommend rethinking using this company. I basically paid someone to ruin my expensive things. read more

The whole moving process started great and ended great, however the lack of professionalism from the office/scheduling side of things was entirely unacceptable. When I initially asked for a quote via email I was met with a very prompt response. Based on the flat rate fee and the very positive reviews on Yelp (I scheduled back in November 2012 prior to the two other negative reviews showing up), I decided on using Skybox. About a month before my move, I received information from my new landlord regarding insurance requirements for the moving companies coming into the building. I emailed Matt with these requirements at which time he essentially told me the property manager understood nothing about moving insurance and there would be an additional $100ish charge for this insurance requirement. After more back-and-forth, it was determined that he would go to the insurance agency that week to have it situated (this was a Thursday, December 27) and would email me with the updated information. After a week passed with no response from Matt, I sent a follow-up email (Thursday, January 3) to ensure the insurance would be correct. Matt responded that he was waiting for other insurance papers to build up to make one trip and "I'll definitely get over there this week." ANOTHER week passes with no insurance certificates so I emailed Friday, January 11 (two weeks from my move date) asking if he had gotten the papers and to let me know if it wasn't possible so I could find another mover before my move on January 25. After no response again, I finally called on January 15 and Matt seemed clueless on the phone saying he was just getting to the office and would call me back in 15 minutes. I had to call AGAIN about two hours later since he didn't call back. I finally got the certificate that day. Then comes moving day... They were scheduled (per emails, which I saved) to show up at 9am on Friday, January 25th. 9:30 comes and I've heard nothing, so I call Matt again. He's "just getting to the office" (see a trend???) and will get back to me. At a little before 10 I get a phone call from Scott (one of my movers) saying they're on their way and that Matt had my move scheduled for the 28th (even though ALL of the emails I have state not only the date, but also that it's a FRIDAY... the 28th is a Monday...) Scott and Derek show up in a very nondescript GRAFFITI COVERED truck. No where on the truck did it say "Skybox Movers." If it were friends of mine doing the move for pizza and beer, I wouldn't have minded; however this is supposed to be a "professional moving company"? I was completely embarrassed thinking that would be the first impression my new neighbors got! (Thank goodness no one seemed to be out) The only reason this company gets two stars is because of Scott and Derek--they were professional, courteous, and expeditious with the move. Not once did they complain that this was supposed to be their day off or that it was too cold (under 15 degrees in Scranton and had started to snow by the time they finished). Another huge plus: so far I've seen nothing that's been damaged or broken! Tip to Scott and Derek: You guys are great! Find a new employer!!!!!! read more

We recently used Skybox for our move within New Hope. I got a quote and booked everything online through Matt. He was very professional and quick to respond to any questions via email. Our movers were also great! They were really friendly and worked quickly. It was pouring rain on our moving day so they went out of their way to keep our furniture dry. They wiped down anything that happened to get wet. We also had difficulty getting an extra large couch into the new apartment. They came prepared with tools and were able to take off the legs of the couch and took the door off the hinges to get it in! This is the first time we've used movers and it was worth every penny. I have had a great moving experience. I just came to u.s. for study and don't speak English very fluently, but on the phone Matt was very patient to get me understood. The moving details are fast arranged by e-mail after I filled out the form on their website. On the moving day Rob and Joe did their job very professionally. They were familiar with all the stuffs and my furniture were protected well on the truck (with rope, cardboard boxes... Etc). So these guys were awesome at first, but they just ended up being okay. Booking a date and time with Matt was easy! He is always quick to respond and always trying to accommodate you. Three guys showed up only 10 minutes or so late, but they called me much earlier to warn me which is nice! They were very friendly and professional! Best yet, they moved so quickly! They made sure everything was moved out. They secured everything in the truck and drove slowly to our destination. They may have scuffed up a few things, but nothing I'm going crazy over and they were honest with me each time something minor happened. Everything was quick, easy, and pain free. Discounts for online booking and for paying with cash is great. It was only a day or two later that I realized that my silverware was missing and that was all in one container. I e-mailed Matt and he answered right away saying that he would find out what happened. Turns out, they delivered my stuff to another client. None of this is a huge deal. It's really just that I expected my stuff to be given back to me the next day at the latest. I spent 2 to 3 more days after the fact playing phone tag and wondering...when I was going to see my silverware?! One day would drag onto the next day and so on. It went from a great experience to just okay. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a quick move. They are friendly and speedy. The price is below average compared to other places. The day of the move, the two movers, Derrick and Rob, arrived exactly on time and moved everything very quickly. They were positive throughout, and everything was done professionally. Moved on 9/29/12 - We went with Skybox because of the other positive reviews on Yelp and their lower prices. - We opted for 4 movers. - We asked if they had wardrobe boxes and they indicated they did and would bring them to transport our clothes from our closets that were on hangers. ARRIVAL: - 3 guys show up in the large truck about 15 minutes late, 4th shows up about 10 minutes after that in his own car (all 4 couldn't fit in cab of truck) - They did NOT bring the wardrobe boxes even though we called a few days before to confirm they would. MOVING PROCESS: - I pointed out my expensive, soft wood, pristine bedroom set. I asked them to take extra care moving this furniture and specifically asked that they always use blankets to protect it. - 5 minutes into the moving process, the leader of the crew comes quickly down the stairs holding one of the pieces of my bed without any cover, trips, comes sliding down the stairs, throws the bed piece in the process. It crashes down the stairs and hits the wall/ceiling. It gets huge dents and chips in it as well as the ceiling above the stairs and the wall. - The poorly pack the truck, quickly ran out of space after the leader commented they had tons of room, and spent significant time trying to rearrange stuff. They threw our clothes over top of random things (which should have been in the wardrobe boxes they forgot). - They left behind my patio furniture set (I didn't see it) and it required us having to come back with my compact car, disassemble the whole thing (table + 4 chairs) to get it to fit, then reassemble - taking at least 3 extra hours of my time to do all the driving back and forth, disassembly, and reassembly. - They were just throwing the last pieces like floor lamps on top without anything securing them. When they closed the door we immediately heard a crash from inside. Something else crashed when they opened it at the destination. - BIG PROBLEM: They locked the keys to the truck in the storage compartment. They drive in the 4th guy's car to nearest home depot for bolt cutters. Once they're back and cut the lock, the leader climbs into the truck from the side access door and climbs on top of all of our boxes filled with fragile items, our clothes, and our furniture. He even said after realizing he locked them in that the keys were by the large back door - but opted to cut the side door lock instead and climb over all of our things squashing box after box to get to the back. - At the new place, one guy tries to hide that they broke the door of a cheap ikea cabinet by propping the door in place but my dad caught him in the act. It was cheap, but be honest - don't try to hide it! - They put a HUGE gash across the ENTIRE length of the top of my bureau and 2 large chunk out of the top of the night stand. I'm sure the loose articles and guy climbing on them for keys led to this. I pointed it all out to the leader, he was VERY unapologetic and said the best he could do is give 5% off the bill. The damages would cost several hundred dollars to repair. The pieces look terrible. SETTLING BILL - He came back with a HUGELY over-charged sum. They tried to charge us for all the time wasted getting bolt cutters and retrieving the keys! Charged us the entire time from the scheduled start time despite being late until the end. When I told them I would not pay that amount and refused to pay for the time dealing with the locked keys, he indignantly responded, "Yes you will." He called his boss and I heard him trashing me to him. He then took off 20 minutes when it took nearly an hour from when the keys were locked in to when they retrieved them. Thankfully I recorded ALL important event times (arrival, realized keys locked in, leaving for 2nd house, arrival at 2nd house, and finish time), so I was able to show him the precise times and dismiss his lies. I had to insist to talk to his boss to settle it, which we did. - One of the other guys in the crew came to me separately to apologize for the problems - the leader never said another word to me after I handed him back his phone with his boss instructing him to give me a lower rate. - They said their CC machine wasn't working and needed cash. When I told them we didn't have the cash, the CC machine magically worked. - After they left, when trying to assemble the bed, we realized they took out long, threaded bolts from the pieces necessary to put it together and left with them. We had to go to home depot to buy threaded rods, cut them with a hacksaw to make new bolts to put the bed together. - I tipped them. WHY! Ultimately the damage to my best furniture is atrocious, they bumbled through the whole move, left items behind, were unapologetic about the damages, locked keys, climbed on/mashed our stuff, dirtied our clothes, and insisted on charging us for it all. Only the owner was mildly reasonable to give a small discount for our troubles. STAY AWAY read more

Told them I needed to move a two story rowhome with a basement . They showed up with a pickup truck and a trailer. It took six trips and 6 hours. I had to help them because it was taking so long. Definitely don't recommend them. They didn't have proper equipment. I paid $800 and had to help them all day. They even left without finishing and said they would come back the next day. read more

I waited a little too long to book an easy local move, so by the time I got around to trying (2 weeks out), the more well-known local moving companies were already booked and I couldn't get my first-choice moving date. Which is how we ended up using Skybox. It all worked out great. Two guys moved us this morning, arriving at 10:06 when scheduled for 10am. They called at 9:57 to say they were 10 minutes away. It took 2 hours to load a 14' truck, and 1 hour to unload, and we managed to fit everything very efficiently. It was a scorcher day, too, and these guys kept at it. Matt K. was responsive via email, and responded promptly the day before when I wanted to confirm date and time for our move. Fees quoted were exactly what we paid. Their rates are great too. For our 3 hour local move with a 14' truck, we ended up paying a good deal less than what we were quoted from other highly-rated local movers. My wife was a little skeptical when I forwarded her the estimate emails skybox sent me-she's used to more formal responses, whereas skybox gave me a more casual response. It didn't bother me,and the fast responses, price, and help that Matt gave in the emails were great,so we booked them. The moving team-Derek, Ryan, and Rob- were polite,listened to every our every crazy request, and emptied our house super quick,without a scratch on our stuff or our old place. At the new house, they unloaded the truck insanely quick and made sure to check where we wanted everything to go. These guys were awesome, and got everything done under my quoted time. I have such mixed reviews for this company. The actual movers, Joe and another guy that I can't recall, were fabulous, but Matt, the boss, has much to be desired!! I had thought everything was going so smoothly-- Matt was very quick to get back to me via email, was very helpful, polite, and gave me a great price for a move from the shore to Philly. But then at 8AM on moving day there was a no-show. 8:30 I called, no answer at the office despite Matt saying someone is always there. 8;45, same thing. 9AM, same thing. 9:15- joe finally calls me feeling very bad saying there was a mix-up and that Matt had told him the job was canceled, but then realized it wasn't in fact canceled! We just confirmed on Friday!! He says that it'll take them a few hours to get to us. It's not his fault so I say fine and hang up furious. I call Matt to explain I'm not Paying full price due to the move happening at 12pm not 8am, and I don't understand how this can happen?? I don't get an apology, he doesn't even sound like he feels bad- he actually sounds ANGRY! We haggle over the price, he says he'll take 5% off- $35 for my entire day wasted? No thanks! We end up with a price and he slams the phone down. If you go with these guys-check, recheck and triple check they show up!!!! read more

Based on all the good reviews, I almost booked them for my upcoming move. Unfortunately, I had a few red flags that made me call it off. First the good part- getting an estimate was quick and easy and the contact person was friendly and stayed courteous throughtout our exchange of emails. The estimate was below what other local movers are charging. Last night, I went to their website to book my move and this is when it got confusing. I requested a Thursday morning move. They emailed me back and told me that they wouldn't be available until after 3pm. Since this would not comply with my apartment's move-in policy, I asked what the availability was for the following two days (Friday and/or Saturday). They responded that Saturday was all booked, Friday afternoon was available and Thursday was available all day. Wait... Didn't they originally tell me Thursday was only available after 3pm? Today, before I even got a chance to clear up the confusion, I received another email, stating that they had tried to call me on several occassions, over several days, that our previous call had been disconnected, that I had been unresponsive, and that if I didn't hurry up and book, they could not guarantee the Saturday move date. But... I didn't request a Saturday, I wanted to book Thursday morning... and they had previously told me that Saturday was completely booked anyway. Plus... I never talked to anyone on the phone... all my correspondence was done via email. Long story short... they seem to be rather disorganized and inconsistent with scheduling. If it is this confusing just to book the job, I can only imagine how they handle the actual move. That's a risk that I don't have time or money to take. To be honest I only went with skybox because they were able to fit us in when nobody else could. We will never move without skybox again. The movers were fantastic. Polite, fun, and one of them fixed a bookcase for us that he didn't break. The back had come off years ago and he nailed it back together. Correspondence with Matt was quick and simple, and the rate was very reasonable for a 1 BR move into a studio with a decent amount of furniture. The guys showed up on time, were extremely efficient under the circumstances (elevators in my old building being EXTREMELY slow) and got everything packed up safely and into my new place even quicker. I contacted SkyBox Movers online less than a week before my moving date. Matt responded immediately by email and answered all of my questions. I was pleased that he sent me a copy of the company's liability insurance without having to be asked. In fact, it was the insurance that convinced me to book with them in first place...I was concerned that if someone was injured during the move it would be my responsibility. The hourly rate was also very reasonable. The movers were a 1/2 hour late, however they called ahead to let me know, so that's not an issue for me. The movers (Scott & Rob I believe) were professional, courteous, and efficient throughout the 3 hour process (2 hours out of old house/1 hour into new). They took a lot of care with my two large-screen TVs as well as my less fragile possessions. I would highly reccommend SkyBox Movers and plan to use them again next year as I am anticipating another move at that time. read more

First time using professional movers. It was great! They had the best quoted rate out of 4 local companies that I called (shortest time estimate). They confirmed my scheduled move date in advance. They called when they were en route to my place. Once I realized just how big "Big Boy" is, I started packing even more stuff so I could utilize all that truck space! The crew (Derek, Mike and James) were professional and extremely helpful when I asked them to move stuff from one floor to another in my new location. They even put A/C units in the windows for me at my new place. And..... They did it all in less time than quoted, so they REDUCED the overall cost to reflect the shorter timeframe. Paying less than quoted??? --- Very nice!! I hope I don't have to move again any time soon, but if I do, I'm calling these guys! read more

Skybox was great to work with. Matt was attentive in answering emails and helping to setup possible scenarios with a tricky piece of furniture (however we ended up not needed the scenarios!) Joe and Anthony were our 2 man crew and worked hard, fast, and carefully. Here is the simple truth: THESE GUYS WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND. Moving is BEYOND stressful and about as much fun as stepping on a straight-edge razor you were using to fix up the place that you were moving out of... which is what I did only 2 weeks prior to my move! ACK! (And TOTAL ouch.) Needless to say, my initial plan of moving myself out went down the drain. I contacted EVERY moving company on Yelp as I hobbled around with my stitched up foot and SKYBOX was the ONLY company willing to WORK with me and bend backwards to get times to work and adjust routing so it would COST LESS. THEY WORKED ALL DAY TO LOWER MY PRICE!! That is practically unheard of. Our interactions were professional and still comical which was needed in my situation of pure worry and stress. If you need a moving company, USE SKYBOX. I can't say enough good things about the interactions and personable attitudes of this company. AWESOME. read more

Set an appointment for 7am and no one showed. Can't call anyone as mailbox full. Total waste of time. I cannot recommend this place. I don't like writing negative reviews but this company really screwed us. read more
