Tammy seems like a nice person but she and her movers let me down big time. It's been 11 days since the move and she's been unresponsive in addressing an issue where the movers broke a glass table and a tall wardrobe mirror. No compensation and no replacement / fixing of any sort. Just crickets when I call and text. I'm unfortunately going to have to file a claim against them through my credit card company as she has not done anything to resolve the situation and has been MIA. Also, during the move I noticed one of the movers had my bed resting on the concrete breezeway ground with no padding or moving blanket, which is gross. I confronted him about it and he looked puzzled and/or shocked I called him out on it. One of my TVs had sweat and smudge marks all over the screen. They didn't use any blankets for that apparently either. Disgusting. One of my 2 Apple TV consoles no longer works so one of the movers must have dropped that too. Ugh. I specifically chose this moving company because Tammy said she'd deploy (3) people for my move which I paid almost 30% more for to be able to have them set up everything in the new place as close to how it was in the old one; ie pack, move, unpack. The moving day came and only 2 guys showed. It took a couple of extra hours because they only had 2 of the promised 3 person crew. In general, everything was not as good as it sounded like it was going to be after her initial very nice quotation phone call. Once they had my money she pretty much disappeared. No compensation for the broken items so it's off to my credit card company to get help now. read more

The movers were super nice! HOWEVER Tammy, not so much. I only hired movers because I was unable to lift more 5lb due to surgeries. It was a very hot day and I acknowledge that. I am not unreasonable... I would have happily paid for breaks, also the storage unit was an airconditioned unit) they quoted $450 for 2 people and 3 hours $60 every half hour after...When we hit my storage unit they said "there's not enough room. we should make a drop off." This was NOT true. They could have!!! But chose not to restack the truck. This cost me the drive unload and back, reload, drive back and unload. At one point it started to get so slow I had to call friends to help them. They even said "maybe we should only get the big stuff...." Look, I was desperate to get moved. I had call bat city movers prior and they weren't available for that day, they gave me a MUCH BETTER quote and the guy was very nice. AGAIN desperate...( I wish I waited that 1 day) The experience cost me $800 to, inner city, move into a 1 bed room apartment, 720 sqft). There were 4 stops but everything was lined up and ready to go. less than 15 miles, 1 stop was only 1 item, all on the way) ANYWAYS, good chuck of stuff is broken. I contacted TAMMY and they said "I'm not in the office today I will get back to you." They never did. I've given them 1 MONTH to respond but nothing. Disgusting way to rip off common people looking for "affordable movers". Thank you for the horrible service, Tammy. My brand new coffee table and side tables are now scratched... they were in perfect condition. I had just purchased the set and I still owe money on them. They showed up with nothing to protect my furniture. Also, it seemed like the movers were stalling. I moved 3 miles down the road and it took them 3 hours. I moved from a second floor to a first floor. When they arrived they said "this isn't bad at all". Because I didn't have very much furniture and I had already moved a lot of boxes and stuff on my own. My friend noticed their stalling too. I had to go outside to see what they were doing several times when they were "unloading".... super annoying! If I'm paying $300 for movers, I expect for my furniture to not be damaged, otherwise I'd just get friends or family to help me move for free. read more

The best movers I've ever used! Getting a quote and setting up the move in advance was easy. They called the day before to confirm and even though they gave us a 2 hour window when they might arrive, they called an hour before the movers actually arrived to give us a heads up. The 2 movers were awesome, friendly, funny, nice, efficient, and super hard-working. We had quite a lot of stuff, with a decently long hallway to walk/roll it all down, but they did it all quickly and efficiently with a smile on their faces! They shrink-wrapped all our furniture and many of our more fragile and bulky items and they also wrapped bigger pieces in blankets. Nothing was broken or damaged in the move. The price was definitely right (about half what I paid using stupid Einstein Moving Company last year) and they moved a lot of stuff in 6.5 hours. I hired Austin Affordable Moving for my move within Austin. Worked with Tammy over email for price etc, and she confirmed the appointment one day before the move over phone. Cole and Phillip showed up right on time. They wasted no time and got right to it. Both of them were friendly and we ended up having nice conversations. I would have appreciated it more if they had more safety equipment to protect the furniture, I saw couple of scratches on the furniture but nothing major. Also Austin Affordable Moving is probably the cheapest in town, and at that rate, these guys worked the hardest and also made sure they don't go over the 2 hour limit diligently. Paperwork was missing but everything happened over phone and I paid by a credit card, got the receipt over email. I would hire them again if need be. read more

Absolute worst moving company!!! I've moved MANY times.. way more than I would have liked to. So, I have extensive experience moving within town, to other towns/states, and also to other countries. Everyone is susceptible to having a bad experience with any company at some point. The reason I'm taking the time to warn you about this company in particular is because of 2 major flaws that go beyond the common accident -- which are communication & accountability. Over the phone, I asked Tammi if they cover and protect the furniture. She said that they do, and specifically mentioned that everything gets covered in blankets and plastic wrap. When the movers arrived, however, that was not the case. They carried my Tempurpedic mattress (which had a new white "spot clean only" fabric cover on it) without covering it all. I stopped them and asked about it. They said I was suppose to request a mattress cover in advance.. that it costs extra and that they didn't bring one with them. The result was black smudges/grease, and sweat all over the mattress (I took pictures). In the phone conversation I had with Tammi leading up to the move, she made it sound like it was standard procedure to have everything covered, but apparently did not communicate that with her movers (She told me one of the guys had many years experience, so it seems he should have known). Turns out, what they mean by "everything gets covered and protected", is to lay a moving blanket on the floor of their truck to stand the mattress on. Our stuff was being moved to a storage unit. They were going to just leave the mattress on the bare floor of the storage unit. I provided a blanket for them to put on the floor, otherwise I'd have needed to buy a blanket from them (also not mentioned by Tammi). Any piece of furniture that had drawers got wrapped with a piece of plastic wrap -- but only a few thin strips to keep the drawers from falling out. The rest of the furniture was not wrapped or covered, and was left exposed. I posted a picture of how our large rug was "covered and protected" -- with one small piece of plastic wrap tied around it to keep it from unrolling. The rest of it was exposed. So after a month in an outdoor climate-controlled storage unit, all our items were VERY dusty, and also had LOTS of scratches/damage and possible chew marks from vermin (I'm not sure how else to explain the type of damage we saw). The way the movers stacked items left several furniture pieces bowed or broken. We reserved 2 storage units to make sure we had plenty of room. Before the movers even started unloading the truck, they told me the 2nd storage unit would not be necessary because there was plenty of space in the 1st one (which ended up being only 3/4ths of the way full, so it was not a lack of storage space that forced that type of stacking.) When I spoke with Tammi about my experience with her movers, she was immediately very defensive and extremely resistant to even considering the possibility of any mistakes on their end. I was not looking for a refund, I was not looking to file an insurance clain, I only wanted to have a conversation about what happended. It was so frustrating, and was evident that customer service was not important to her. In the end, the only way I could get her to ease up on her defensive demeanor is to flat out say to her "I'm not planning on filing an insurance claim." Then she suddenly softened and started to listen to my suggestion to let her future customers know that "covered and protected" is not an accurate description of what they do. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through the amount of work/time/effort, and extra money it took to get our items cleaned, repaired, and replaced. With so many choices for moving companies out there, I highly recommend choosing someone else other than Austin Affordable Moving Company. read more

HORRIBLE!!!!!! This place is a scam. By far the worst customer service I have EVER dealt with. I don't usually leave reviews but all should be warned about this company. I should have been tipped off with my first red flag. They gave me a 3 hour window of arrival(3pm-6pm). They showed up at 5:40pm. Ok fine it was within the window. Then the guys rushed in asking where the beds were. NO walk through was performed whatsoever! I showed him where the beds were and they immediately started carrying them out. NO BLANKETS FOR PROTECTION! NO BOOTIES WORN TO PROTECT MY CARPET! In fact one of them cut their leg and bled all over the carpet on my stairs. Come to find out TAMMY told them they were only moving 3 beds!!! I never said it was only 3 beds....that makes no sense at all...she sent the big truck for my move. One of the movers got very defensive and rude because I was "adding" so many things to be moved. I scheduled for large furniture but no appliances! She herself told me she never updated her guys. They were rushing like crazy practically throwing my furniture on the dolly. (Which was rolled on my carpet WITHOUT protection!!) I witnessed ONE mover shoving my couch out the front door AGAIN no blankets or wrap to protect my BRAND NEW couch!!!! Once we were at the other house, they were in a huge rush leaving furniture barely set up. One of the final pieces brought in was my couch. They got grease all over it!!! Also broke the frame! I then lost it and was furious to see my BRAND NEW couch ruined. The guy that was responsible for the damages would only say "I'm not sure how that would have happened"....Oh really? I can assure you my couch didn't have a spec on it or broken frame before it left my house! I sent TAMMY pictures of my couch immediately. They took $50 off of my bill and then proceeded to tell me that is the MAXIMUM that will be paid. I'm sorry to tell you, TAMMY, this is not the last of this. read more

I wish I had read the previous review before I hired Austin affordable Movers. My apartment flooded and I was in a bind to get it moved fast and I didn't want to spend a lot of money doing it. I found several ads on Craigslist and Austin Affordable Movers was able to schedule me for the next day so I went with them. Big mistake hiring them. They showed up late (they called to say they were running 30 minutes late, but it was more like 1 hour 15 minutes). They don't even have their own truck, they were using a Budget Rental truck (should have told me something right there) They weren't careful with anything, they scratched the heck out of my furniture and dropped a bin filled with dishes and picture frames (thank goodness it was packed well enough that nothing broke) They forgot to move my dining table. It was the only thing left in the apartment and they claimed they didn't see it. They had to come back several hours later to leave it at my front door b/c I had to be elsewhere. When I arrived home the solid wood table was missing a noticable chunk from the side of the table. I called them concerning the table and they said something must have happened to it before they moved it. My husband took a picture of it in the old apartment to show me that it was in plain sight and it's not broken in the picture, yet when it was left at our door it's obviously broken. They were absolutely fine. I read the three prior negative reviews "after" I booked Affordable Moving and decided to go ahead anyway with the move, which worked out fine. I booked the move with "Tammy" for a Saturday afternoon only a few days prior (it was mid-month, not as busy). Price was confirmed by email. I received a phone call right on schedule an hour prior to meeting the movers at my storage facility. So far, so good. The two very capable fellows -- Blake and Joey -- arrived in a 17 foot Budget rental truck and they are the reason I give a such a high rating for my experience. Their pace was good and there was no unnecessary manhandling of my things. They also are strong. Note: I had very little furniture, mostly boxes, coming from a 10 x 15 storage bin and going to the second floor of a house up a staircase. The movers presented me with the hourly charges and field fee on paper before they started, which I signed indicating that I accepted the terms. Proper amount appeared on my credit card. Wow. I just finished using this company. Wow. This was too easy. I emailed three different companies, got two responses immediately. I sent back questions - no response. But i did hear from Tammy.... She was professional, responsive, on-her-game. Moving day - she called to confirm (after sending/responding a slew of emails the day before) and the guys got there 2 minutes early. Two movers, very quick and very polite and professional. 3 hours later, they had moved my two bedroom first floor to another two bedroom first floor (and beat me to the new apartment at that!!) The ONLY downside - they did break a glass... to be honest, it was supposed to go to the trash, but I missed the box. So no party foul. Not sure why other reviews were low.. Thought our movers Kyle and Will busted their butts the whole time at a very heavy, fast pace moving our items. The did use a budget rental truck, but that didn't matter to us, a lot of companies use rental trucks to move items. Just because they don't have their own trucks doesn't mean they aren't good. You pay for the labor, not the truck. My girlfriend and I recently moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Austin, TX and she had items in storage in Austin, and then we used a Relocation Cube to bring our stuff from Cleveland. The movers went and met us at the storage and loaded up everything. Then then followed us tot he cube location and loaded that stuff up and then moved it to our new place. They were great, and friendly. Would definitely recommend to others as they moved fast and were careful with our items. read more

My husband and I needed help loading our rental truck before we moved to Iowa. We made an appointment about 2 weeks out and got a confirmation call 2 days before our move. This company did everything right. They gave me the best competitive price--and I did shop around. They made sure I was comfortable with the date and time and the level of care they promised, and then they delivered exactly what they said they would. They called me the day before the move, and twice during the move to be sure that I was ready at both ends. Prior to hiring them I was concerned about insurance and Tammy had their insurance company send me their insurance certificate. I was concerned about how well they would care for a family heirloom dining set and Tammy promised they would wrap it in blankets then shrink wrap everything, When it all arrived that is exactly how it arrived. I'll echo the other reviews mentioning how straightforward they are with scheduling - the nice woman who coordinates all the scheduling was very communicative with me, especially day-of with updates of exactly when they would be there. Kyle and Will were our two movers -- they make a great team and are so very polite and professional! They were SUPER careful with everything and really seemed to care about our happiness with the move. One of them even noticed our coffee table legs were loose and fixed them. Their price was right in line with most that I spoke with but they seemed more knowlegdable and experienced. I can honestly say that after a little confusing about trip charge, apparently they all have it, I was truly happy with their service. I also am not sure why other reviewers have rated this company so low. My movers today, Kyle and Will, were fantastic and exceeded my expectations, especially given their rates. I was moving from San Marcos to Austin and the day I was scheduled to move it was pouring rain. Austin was experiencing flooding and many roads were closed but they managed to make it all the way to San Marcos on time. Tammy was extremely helpful and kept me updated from the moment I received a quote until the actual moving day when the movers arrived. Kyle and Will worked very fast and moved my things much quicker than I expected and were polite and conversational while still being professional. They moved the majority of my things in the rain but still managed to not damage anything and most things seemed to not even get wet in the move, even my electronics which I had forgotten to cover. I would definitely recommend them and use them again, especially if you are on a low budget. read more

I have no complaints with the original offer, nor Thomas & Will, who helped me move boxes & some furtniture on a smallish move. Tammy, the office manager, made a fair offer with a discount included from Angie's List I had. The move was a little later than promised but Tammy called to let me know that. My only real complaint was at the end when she charged me for running ten minutes over two hours, which negated the discount. Since they were almost a whole hour late (putting us in the middle of I-35 Rush Hour Traffic), I was pretty taken aback by it and waited for her to say, "Never mind since we were late." Nope. Words never came out of her mouth. Why do that? Really? Who did that help? This review alone will end up costing the firm in lost business whatever "savings' that last trick got the firm. It left a bad taste in my mouth, like I was being nickeled and dimed. All in all, the guys did the work--not the office--but it kind of put me off. read more

In October I had drama with the first movers I had chosen and called Tammy @ Austin Affordable Movers for help. She was able to schedule my move at the last minute and stay within my original moving budget. They kept in contact with me and kept me up to date on arrival time, and the truck and two guys arrived half an hour earlier than scheduled. They did a fantastic job and were very careful with my furniture. In short, AAM and Tammy saved my move! Unlike noted in previous reviews, they had their own truck when they arrived at my apartment and did not break anything. They were quite careful, but like any responsible home owner should, I stayed with them to make sure that everything was taken care of and supervised them during the move. Duh, people. read more
