Situated on top of Sulphur Mountain, this restaurant provides gorgeous, breathtaking panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies, all while serving up amazing food that's locally sourced. The menu is a bit pricey, but unlike other places where you're paying for the view, the quality of the food almost justifies the pricing. You can save yourself a good amount of money if you book the Sky Experience. This gets you the gondola experience and a 2 course meal at the restaurant. Make sure you ask to get seated next to the window for the best possible views. Now, onto the food. Items ordered were the P.E.I. steamed mussels, charcuterie, lobster roll and the Alberta beef short rib. I really wanted the steak sandwich because Alberta beef is just unreal in terms of quality and flavor, but they were sold out so I had to settle for the short rib. While we were waiting for our food, they brought us some bread. Dipping sauces were TRUFFLE butter and olive oil & balsamic. That truffle butter was so good we requested more of it and slathered it all over our entrees. A bite sized sample crostini was also provided. The mussels came in a giant metal pot. Although there weren't many, they had awesome flavor and lots of juices. The pot also included locally-made chorizo, yellow onion, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, celery, toasted baguette. Everything was in perfect harmony and I recommend using the mussel shell as a spoon to scoop up the broth with each mussel. The mussels were meaty without being chewy and rubbery. I was a bit disappointed with the charcuterie. It had locally-made sausage, Valbella cured meat, cheese mustard, pickles, dried and candied figs, cranberries and apricots. All the meats were delicious, but I wanted more of them. The prosciutto was hands down the best thing on the plate. I love the brie cheese and the mustard seeds; both paired really well with the fattiness of the prosciutto. The other cheeses and meats were good, but pale in comparison to the brie and prosciutto. The lobster roll was huge. They don't skimp out on the amount of lobster used either. The roll is already quite large, and there are chunks of lobster bursting out of it. It's mixed with brown butter aioli, butter lettuce, steamed baby potato and scallions. Add the truffle butter from the bread and it just takes this dish to another level. The lobster is of the cold water Atlantic variety and cooked perfectly. Alberta beef short ribs were amazing. They come on a bed of buttermilk mashed potatoes and topped with a Merlot demi-glace. Fried leek and caramelized root vegetables accompany the dish. The ribs were literally fall off the bone tender. Stick a fork into the meat and it flakes off with absolutely no effort. The meat was cooked to a medium rare and perfectly tender. As you get closer to the bone, the color of the meat is a nice pink and melts in your mouth. There was hardly any fat on the ribs either, so all you have is just mouthfuls of succulent, high quality beef. The mashed potatoes were airy and creamy, and I wasn't too enamored with the vegetables and fried leek because the ribs stole the show and I didn't want any other flavors to compete with the beef. Everything about this place was great. The service was wonderful and friendly. The decor is modern and classy. There are floor to ceiling windows so no matter where you sit, you'll get a fantastic view of the mountains. read more

Really great restaurant and service. I'll admit, we were not the easiest customers because I really wanted to sit by a window and insisted upon waiting until we could. The hostesses were very gracious, though probably annoyed. (Sorry! & thank you) We did end up sitting by a window. The food was incredible! I loved the beet salad with the torched cheese, wow! The bison tartare was fantastic, best tartare I've had! My husband loved the duck appetizer. I appreciate SkyBistro for providing a delicious dinner with picture perfect views! read more

Butternut squash soup and winter salad after walking to the peak of sulphur mountain. Friendly service and a beautiful view of the mountains. Good variety on the menu and price wise works out about the same as the fixed price lunch package at the cafe next door. Food was a bit slow coming out and it was worth the wait. Butternut squash soup was creamy and tasty although the cornbread muffin was dry and not so good. Salad was fresh and tasty with a perfectly cooked chicken breast. Great way to enjoy lunch on a breathtaking mountain! read more

Gorgeous views of the Canadian Rockies with a menu that celebrates food sourced right in Canada! I went May 1st, the first day it opened after the winter season. And oh boy was it a treat! First, to come here, make sure to make reservations so you can enjoy the food from their window seats where you sit right on the edge of the restaurant and no tables are obstructing your view. Poor planning on our end, and we didn't get that, but because of their floor to high ceiling windows we sat the row after and it was still good!! I'm happy we made the choice to go anyway. So after the gondola ride and a bit of hiking around, we go to enjoy this meal before the last gondola ride down. 5 stars. Roast Tomato Gin Soup - Sweet field tomato, okanagan gin, corn fritters. I was happy to see that this was easily an entree size portion. Wow, one of the best tomato soups I've had. It was chunky, savory, and not too sweet. It really tasted fresh to me. 4 stars - Charcuterie platter. The cheeses were great! A smoky cheddar, oka, and a jack cheese. The smoky cheese was the best of the three. This one also came with prosciutto, sausage, crackers, pickles, dried apricots, and dried figs. 5 stars - Okanagan Peach Cobbler. Caramelized peaches, lavender pastry crust, vanilla bean ice cream. This was very very good! The peaches were well roasted inside the cobbler and I especially like the crunch topping. Warm comforting dessert for a snowy day! 5 stars - Brioche Bread Pudding. Maple creme anglaise, fresh berries, basil, unsweetened whip cream, Quebec maple syrup, B.C. berries. This one is another good dessert. The presentation alone is creative. Then you dive in with a fork and enjoy!! Not too sweet and it isn't drowning in sauce. Sweet goodness. Service was also excellent. This is fine dining at a high elevation with vast views of the Canadian Rockies. I mean, what more could you ask for?? read more

Canada day, our 10h anniversary as well. We had tried to book reservations weeks in advance but it was all booked up. Came up the gondola to enjoy the views and we thought to just try and get in....success! GORGEOUS VIEWS! I ordered the scallops and my wife the salmon. Both were so PERFECT! Could not have had a better meal and the service is all top knotch! Well done team read more

When you talk about once in a lifetime experience - this is it! You have to ride the gondola up the mountain to get there, and when you make your reservation ask for a window seat (though honestly any seat in the place is good). The views are breathtaking, and the food was good (not the best, but good). Coming from Los Angeles, the prices were not too bad and definitely worth it for the view and experience. You get a yummy little amuse bouche at the beginning of the meal, plus some soft bread with truffle butter (who doesn't love truffle butter?!) My husband and I got the beet carpaccio (OK), scallops (a little on the smaller side), the pork belly (tasty), and the sirloin (great smoky flavor). For dessert we had the cheesecake. Was it the best meal we've ever had? No. But again, you're going for the views. The service was also great (our waiter was struggling a little, but I could tell that he was trying. The service I could tell is usually superb). For those of you on a budget, you could also grab a bite just across the way - there is a small cafe and window seating as well, but I definitely enjoyed and recommend the Sky Bistro. Also, while we were waiting for our gondola down, we saw a HUGE crate of food and wine being brought up the gondola - really cool to thing the restaurant has to get all their food and supplies that way. A tip: there is a Sky Experience available - we did not get this, but our waiter talked about it. I imagine it's a package with the gondola ticket and a meal. I would look into this, might be a good deal. read more

We made a reservation with notes...They make you wait but and give you the worst seat in the house, we even called multiple times but no answer. So it's pretty much a first come first serve basis. I was hoping there was no bad seat in the restaurant but of course we did get them. read more

Sky Bistro - They said this is the best view they can offer. Even though you leave notes and attempt to call them multiple times. - Canadian (New) Near Me - Banff, Alberta

Food and service are equally important for a successful restaurant. No matter how good the food is, if the service is horrible, the food just won't taste as good. Our experience at Sky Bistro immediately went downhill upon entering the restaurant. The hostess, Harshita, was extremely rude and very disrespectful. Not entirely sure why she treated us like this, maybe because my wife didn't hear her say "how you doing" the first time and had to repeat herself?. But upon entering Harshita asked us how many people and we said two. She looked around the empty dining room and told us she can only offer seating on a bar table. After we took the bar table we noticed it was a very wobbly table. Out of all the tables around she offered This one to us. Now, I've worked at restaurants before and hostess know all the tables by heart so I can guarantee you she gave this one to us knowing this issue. Our server came by and we asked her if we can get another table bc of the wobbliness. She goes back to Harshita and when she returned, she said the other tables are all reserved. This is funny because we went on the website and reservations were only for dinner time ? The bartender, Jenny, I guess saw what was happening and came by to rectify the issue. Immediately after Jenny was able to get us a table by the window (and again there were empty tables to our front and back). The reason people come to eat up here is for the amazing view. After going thru all the debacle, I had already lost my appetite so the food was just meh. I do want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Jenny and say f*$& you to Harshita. read more

Giving Sky Bistro 1 star because that is the lowest option - it certainly doesn't deserve the star! The Good: the views, just like every other view from the top of the gondola. A picnic lunch would have made for a better view. There is also another restaurant on the floor with the same views. The Bad: The food. All of it. Assuming you get it eventually. 90 minutes for an overcooked burger that had clearly been sitting out before it arrived. The Ugly: The service is the worst. If you get Max, ask for another server. Better yet, just don't go here unless you want to sit around and wait for terrible food for 2 hours. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes for a drink, assuming you are willing to ask for it multiple times. read more

I am a chicken shit! The gondola up to this place made me need a drink when I got there. However it is worth it. The view is awesome, you can sit right against the window and see the rockies! I will admit we only had the soup but it was great. Toss some shrimp in and it could have been gumbo. Grey Goose was a reasonable price. The atmosphere is cool and the service was great. If you go up the gondola, give it a try! read more

Sky Bistro really went above and beyond our expectations. All of our food was delicious, they had great craft beer options that were reasonably priced (8CAD), and we also managed to score a table by the window - I think it helped that I had purchased a package gondola and dining ticket, and it wasn't too busy when we arrived. I had the lentil starter and the beet gnocchi, both were perfect! And on top of the amazing views, and great food, the service was great. Our server Jaimee was on point, recommended beers that were right up my alley and was very attentive. I'm so glad we purchased the whole package, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice break from all the outdoor activities Banff offers. read more

We purchased the sky top experience which included the gondola ride & dining in sky bistro ( appetizer & entree with your choice ) and I really think it's quite worth it. The food is ridiculously delicious, I ordered scallops as appetizer and bison as my entree, that bison was the best piece of meat I have ever had in my life I swear. I am still dreaming about that bison till today. read more

Not very impressed with the Sky Bistro. Obviously you do pay for the view, but for such a pricey expedition you would expect more out of the resturant. We had drinks at the bar before being seated and were told we had to settle our bill before as their system was "too old" to move our tab or something. The halibut lacked flavour; tasted like it was only seasoned with salt, and the ghnocci dish was extremely small. While paying my bill our waitress hovered over me while I typed in the tip and grunted when I said thank you after leaving. Clearly it wasn't enough for her. If you take the gondola up I recommend enjoying a beer and perhaps a pulled pork sandwich at the upper deck patio. Skip the resturant and choose a better meal option a few kilometres closer to the ground. read more

One of my favorite meals in Banff (which featured many great places to eat/drink). First of all, the views are incredible. I had an amazing steak sandwich featuring Albertan beef and friend onions. Moist and flavorful. The beers were all local and fantastic as well. Service was excellent. Also, this place is not as expensive as you would expect for a restaurant on a mountain peak. read more

Visited the sky bistro in July for my birthday, and it surpassed my expectations! It's a little pricey if you're taking the gondala up, but if you're visiting from outside of Alberta I would definitely recommend it. The views are worth every penny. Truly out of a magazine, specially during the winter. Service is great. They did not have an apple martini but we were offered another style drink with apple cider at no cost due to falling short on our drink preference. Portion size is small so be aware. Food is tasty but nothing you cant get at another restaurant. The inside of the bistro is also gorgeous. Great place to warm up, have a meal with a world class view and take unforgettable pictures and memories with you. read more

This is a fairly new restaurant at the top of Sulpher mountain. I don't know exactly how long it is been here for her but I know that it is relatively new. The building used to be a wooden structure and they have completely redone it and now it has glass window so you can see a complete view of the mountains around while you are enjoying your food. It is absolutely delicious food when I went I personally just had some baked goods these included whoopie pies as well as cupcakes in different flavours they have a Smore's cupcake as well as a cotton candy cupcake. The DeCora complements the restaurant as well as the atmosphere of Banff and Kenmore in the mountains very well I love it here and will definitely be going back. You got to take the gondola up the gondola is $50 a person but then you also get to take it back down and it is very worth it because the gondola is all windows as well just like the restaurant as you get a complete view of the mountains going down and up as well. Now that I have been there for desserts I deafly want to go back and try some of their savoury dishes! read more

The female host at the front checking in was extremely rude. We we're there 30 minutes checking in and all I asked was if I could get a window seat because it was our anniversary and she did nothing but give us attitude and rolled her eyes. Her response was too bad this is all you get...all seats have a view. Restaurant opens at 5. There's no one there and that's the attitude I got. It was a simple question. If you cannot provide good service at a nice restaurant don't work there. I would in a customer service industry and this is not how you treat your guest. read more

Definitely enjoyed the experience. How often can you say you ate in the sky? However, it appears that they are still getting their act together. They recently changed the menu so the online menu may not actually match what they have (at least that was our experience). The selection was a little small but the food was well cooked. I ordered the seafood melody which I really enjoyed. What I did not enjoy was the way it was served. They serve it in the awkward bowl that slips and slides and splash liquid from a weird opening so there was really no "neat" way to eat it. Also the food took a really long time to come out. Our waiter apologized to us a few times. Even though our group ended up eating the plates as they sporadically came out we were all still satisfied. I would say definitely eat here for the experience, but be wary that they have a few things to work out. read more

Wow! Who knew this place was here!?! I had never been in a gondola and when my hubby and I went to Banff for a quick surprise getaway I really wanted to check it out! On the way there he discovered the amazing deal for dinner and the gondola! Worked out to about $85 for the ride and a two course amazing dinner! The view is worth it alone but the food and the service and the beverage options were all wonderful! For a fixed menu I was really impressed!! I had the tasty duck wings and my hunny the seafood chowder- both delicious! For a main I had the short rib, that fell off the bone and delicious Brussels sports! Sky Bistro is exactly what others are saying and frankly I kind of figured when we headed up here this is what it was going to be like ... 5-star views, 3 star everything else. We came during a slow day over Thanksgiving and it was below zero on the observation deck, this was a great way to take in all of the beauty while not getting your skin ripped off your face by the wind whipping up the mountain. We came during lunch and it was absolutely breathtaking. We were able to get a window seat and every breath you took it felt like you were 1) Going to fall out of your chair and fall down the mountain 2) impossible that you were actually there, in that moment. In one word - breathtaking. After we took in the dizzying view, we ordered up a beer and a cocktail. Beer was OK and pricey, and cocktail was pricey and not good. Super syrupy and sweet. It was made with real ingredients but wasn't balanced AT ALL. In hindsight I probably should have sent it back. We enjoyed our time here and the view, but if the service and drink would have been better we probably would've stayed and ordered another round and lunch. Thankfully we didn't because it sounds like the view is better than the food as well. Take it for what it is, a touristy bistro that sits on top of one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. We were seated promptly and served bread and water immediately. We had singed up for the Bistro package- Starter, Entree and ride up for $109 Canadian which was about $80 USA currency. If you're looking for dinner with a view - this is definitely your place. If you're looking for an abundance of food - this is probably not the stop you want to be making. I got the steak, which was tiny and a small salad. For the amount I paid for it - I was a little disappointed. They seemed to be missing quite a bit. My first two choices for wine were not there. They didn't have the salad dressing that I wanted, everything just seemed weird for a place that apparently had such high standards. My partner got the bison burger and loved it. It was cooked well, and had a ton of flavour and he was definitely a happy camper. Our dessert was a little less than what we bargained for. It was an amazing sculpture of that mountains constructed with Nanaimo and custard but it was extremely dry and basically tasted like stale coconut. The view was amazing, the restaurant was stunning, it was clean and beautiful. However, the food wasn't spectacular and the service wasn't great. At the end, we wish we would have went to the cafe instead - we left feeling hungry and a little disappointed. read more

Our dinner at Sky Bistro was the highlight of our vacation to Banff. Our group of 7 purchased the package which included the Gondola ride, one appetizer, and one entree. What an amazing deal! This meal rivaled the finest restaurants I've eaten in my home city of New York. The ambiance was incredible- despite visiting on a cloudy day which prevented us from experiencing the views on the observation deck, our food was incredible, with each dish wowing us beyond expectations. Cocktails were delicious, our server was friendly and attentive, and we were able to enjoy a long and leisurely meal in which friends from different cities could catch up and relax over incredible food. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant as a must-visit when you are in Banff- but check the weather to ensure that you're visiting on a clear night, so you can enjoy the views! read more

The service here was horrible. I came from San Francisco, CA and had booked a reservation for two at Sky 370 for 8pm on the 3rd of January 2023. I arrived with my guest and service dog. The hostess took my reservation card and then went into the back to bring out her Manager. Her Manager asked for service dog documents. I showed him the brass Assistance Dog tags that California issues and explained to him that is what we get to prove our dogs are registered service dogs in California. I then explained to him the phone number to a police department is on the brass tag and if he wants to verify he should call that number and inquire about the ID number on the tag to the police who will then verify that he is a service dog. He called for a few seconds, hung up the phone and said he was not able to reach anyone. I then showed him my letter from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs a letter indicating my dog is a service dog. Having served all around the world fighting for countries that partake in NATO in the name of freedom, I took a beating and that's why I need my service dog. After all this hard work to get him to comply, he stonewalled me from entering. I realized I shouldn't make a big deal if it, I'm used to being discriminated for being a disabled US veteran. I decided to take my business elsewhere. I hope all you visiting Americans and Canadians and anyone with a disability thinks twice before entering this establishment. read more

The view at the top of the mountain after the gondola ride is world class. However, the whole experience at Sky Bistro was a disaster. The drinks before dinner were terrible, the steak was tough and three of the six folks in our party sent theirs back (I just didn't eat mine). So after a terrible first drink I decided to order safe and go for a margarita, but no luck there either (how do u screw up a margarita???). The asparagus was ok. The wine selection was limited to wines from BC, and I am all for supporting local wineries but have never seen a nice restaurant not have some kind of variety. Then, the strawberry shortcake came, with one strawberry cut in half, and what can only be described as a three day old crumbled up dry muffin and two little spots of whip cream. I must say that the one strawberry was very good. So, my advice is go for the view, and pick a nice restaurant at the Rimrock or in town to go to. Note: I was a server in a former life and I am NOT a harsh reviewer, but this was the worst dining experience we have had in several years. read more
