Made our reservations in advance and it was well worth it. Had a friendly waiter who was helpful when picking our food and drinks. We both had fish that was amazing. I couldn't think of a cooler place to eat at. Be sure to make a reservation or you may not get in. read more

We went to the Sky Bistro after the hike. We enjoyed this experience very much! We got the beet salad, bison and halibut, 10oz house smoke Alberta angus striploin and the cauliflower. The presentation of these dishes were very appetizing. All those dishes were good, except the striploin. That one was just ok. The ambience of this restaurant was very nice and also had a good view of the mountain and the hike. Our server was very nice too, very friendly and polite. If we get to come back to this this hike, we'll definitely come to this restaurant again. read more

Enjoyed the Sky Bistro today for lunch with my husband for his birthday. Overall: Food was OK - views were spectacular, service def. needed help. Getting there: Taking the gondola up was an experience. I'd recommend to go for lunch so you can take in all the views and definitely go on the boardwalk so you can check out the mountain peak! Food: Got the burger which was OK (they didn't ask how I wanted it cooked) and they didn't provide any ketchup. The soup included with it was good but very salty for a vegetable soup. The service was horrible as they rarely checked on us. I had to ask for my water to be filled up after waiting 15 mins for someone to come check on us to even see if our food was right. Overall would def go back again to take in the views and enjoy some dining. read more

Sky Bistro - Unicorn beer - super dark, didn't taste much like an IPA but with the views it was perfect. - Canadian (New) Near Me - Banff, Alberta

A great experience in Banff that I'd highly recommend! Definitely on the pricier side but not bad for what it is. The views and the ambiance inside are breathtaking and the presentation of food was beautiful. Our waiter was super fun and kind as well. I tasted the salmon and short rib and both were quite flavorful. The salmon was cooked really well--tender and not dry on the inside and crispy on the outside. I felt that there could be a bit more depth of flavor for the salmon but overall I enjoyed the dish. The short rib was marinated really well in sauce and the sweet potato purée was so good! read more

This place was great. I was expecting it to be nothing special since it's a big tourist spot, but I have to say this was a great restaurant. The view was spectacular and the service was A+. The waiter made sure to always have our water glass full and made sure we got more drinks if we needed them. The restaurant opens at 11am and we got there right when it opened to that way we didn't have to wait in line. My sandwich was fantastic. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich and it was amazing. I ordered fries on the side and they were crispy and golden and super good. Our gondola ride to go up was at 10:30am and we came down at 2:20pm. We had plenty of time to walk around and see the view and have a great meal read more

The restaurant was perfect for family lunch because of the epic mountain views and delicious lunch. We enjoyed the smooth gondola ride to the top of the mountain. The boardwalk along the ridge offers easy terrain for epic views. There are a couple restaurants at the top, a gift shop, and an interactive museum. Sky Bistro was the most appealing lunch option. My wife and I shared a berry salad with Canadian prawns and ocean to sky seafood chowder. My kids a enjoyed the pasta and cheese. The chowder was fresh with medium-thick soup. Fresh berries and crisp green mixed with a minimal dressing was a lift, delicious treat. I highly recommend this restaurant to family and friends for a memorable lunch. read more

Good view and food presentation is good for Instagram. However, the actual texture and flavour was the worst meal we've had on our trip... Chowder: very clumpy, same texture as when you open a can of soup Beef: dry - worst than the pork my mom uses to make her soup. Vegetables while look to be roasted were actually quite raw. Sable fish: texture was good, but the accompanying veggie just overpowered and didn't enhance the fish itself. Just expect that you're paying for the view and the food is just a side. read more

We bought the gondola +lunch package at 11am on Tuesday. It was right when they opened so we got seated at the window seat with the most amazing view. We were able to get lots of pictures before people started coming in half an hour later. Service was prompt. The food definitely has potential, but definitely room for improvement. Everything pretty much tasted mediocre- 3 stars at best. We got salad, sweet potato soup, orechiette, and pulled bison burger. Orechiette was chewy and evenly cooked. The burger meat was juicier and more seasoned than another bison burger I had. Winter sangria is pretty solid. I think this restaurant is great for the experience and I'd recommend it to anyone with a disclaimer that the food isn't that great. read more

A three course menu with a gondola trip included that takes you to a stunning view makes an unforgettable experience. Drinks are not included, aside complimentary water. The attached photo is of the clam chowder with fish eggs. The chowder was creamy and rich with flavor making it one of my favorite clam chowders that I have had in the country. There were enough mussels giving it additional texture. As a starting dish, I do recommend. It can be fulfilling making it a bit difficult to power through the main course, but the quality of all the meats provided in the main course options makes it all the easier to devour. Consider the hour of reservation you choose. We wanted to experience the sunset but it back lashed on our party. Because all guests want a view of the Rocky Mountains curtains are rarely dropped. As the sun was setting, the glare made direct contact making the experience less enjoyable. On another note, as I was in the restroom two caucasian ladies entered and made comments about the restroom smell and compared it to Mexico. They continued to make jokes amongst themselves not being fully aware that there was someone else present in the restroom. When I left the stall they suddenly became stiff. As a Hispanic woman with a parent that was born in Mexico, it was disheartening to have experienced. Overall, that didn't stop me from enjoying my experience and I would recommend the establishment food and services to anyone. Regarding the individual's who help themselves to this experience as well, we have no control of. read more

We had a wonderful time here. We thoroughly enjoyed the duck, beef tartare and salmon gravlax starters as well as the squash & fennel salad and desserts of chocolate torte with vanilla ice cream. The espresso came to the table in a preheated cup and saucer--a nice touch and ensured our espresso came to us hot. Our wait servers, Hugo and Sashi, were wonderful. They worked as a team--Hugo was assigned to our table and Sashi brought our food out to us. They were attentive yet not intrusive. Highly recommend coming here! The hostess, Kayla, was wonderful. We had no reservations and called in from the Banff Gondola. She arranged near-window seats for us. Kayla, thank you! read more

This place has a wonderful view of Banff sitting up high on Sulphur mountain. I was able to get a great window seat without reservation. As expected prices for food are alittle higher than normal due to the location. I ordered the Seafood Chowder and some french fries. The seafood chowder was pretty good and had healthy portions of salmon, roe, mussels and prawns. The french fries were a bit underwhelming and just seemed like Ore Ida bag fries literally instead of fresh cut. I'd go again if I felt like hiking up mount Sulphur instead of taking the Gondola. read more

Some of the kindest most helpful servers I've encountered. And the food and cocktails were great.

Sky Bistro has one of the best views I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing during a meal. The food definitely matched up, but would have loved more flavours in the Beef dish. The paired salad was quite poor. The Tuna appetizer was amazing, as was the Arctic char entree. If this is within your budget on your next Banff trip it is definitely worth it. Really overpriced food that did not wow me but I get it, I'm paying for the view. But at least make the food good!! The summer greens salad was just pathetic. Most pathetic salad I've ever had.... my 4 year old nephew can probably make a better salad. It was just so boring to look at and eat. There were zero garnishes on the salad, seemed like they just tossed a bunch of green leaves onto the plate and drizzled it with dressing. To make it worse, some of the greens were yellow and wilted. If you're going to have greens as the only ingredient in the dish, at least make it fresh AF.... it was just so sad The cauliflower fritters came with like 4.5 pieces.... it was nothing special and I will probably never understand the logic of frying vegetables. My friend had the risotto and she did not enjoy it either as it was tasteless and a bit raw. My bison was so-so... It's okay, I came for the view... even though the day I came it was cloudy and cold AF.. dammit! read more

Echoing the sentiments of others, 5-star views, and 3-star food. I won't go into excessive detail but the trek up to Sky Bistro is well worth it for the views alone. Come for a cocktail and get high... on the height! Beautiful picturesque mountain views from the warmth of a fancy, romantic vantage point at the top of the world! Hello Ladies ;) Why was the food no bueno? Well here's the thing, it's not that it wasn't good, it was perfectly OK, but it wasn't great. Higher prices (which makes sense) but small portions. Our server raved about the Buffalo? Bison? Steak and the taste was pretty good, cooked ok but the size was super sad. I was ravenous so thank goodness a dining colleague ordered the same and didn't finish her because I shamelessly finished hers off like we were stranded on a deserted island. My other gripe was with the cocktails. I always rate a place by their old-fashioned and theirs was, hard to get down, too much alcohol, not balanced and actually a chore to down. Switching to wine all was made better! The views and the experience definitely make up for any misgivings I had with the food, and I'd come here again on my next visit... maybe just for a wine and appy! BANFF! Eatcrest OUT! read more

Oh, how I wanted to love Sky Bistro. The incredible views, the warmth after a grueling 3.5 hour icy hike up Sulphur Mountain, but I just found my experience kind of meh when it came to the food. So I have to echo my friend Joi's statement of "5-star views. 3-star food." For an average of 4 stars. So first the good--the view! You're at the top of Sulphur Mountain. Banff National Park is all around you! It's floor to ceiling windows and you can sit and admire the beauty while in the comfort of the warm restaurant. The hosts/hostesses were also stellar and really helped us get settled, store our hiking gear in their big closets, etc. And they were very welcoming to our group, if a little scatterbrained. Also, wine! And drinks! Get a big ol' class and nestle up to the window and enjoy the view with a tasty glass of vino. Now, doesn't that sound lovely? Now the not so good--food service was a little slow and my order was fairly disappointing. I was freezing after the hike so I wanted warm things. I ordered the squash soup and the brie appetizer. The soup, now the soup was actually pretty ok. Not the best soup I've ever had but it sure did hit the spot. But the brie? Oh, that wasn't great. The brie comes wrapped in what I believe they hope is a bread bowl. But in getting the brie to the right temperature to be melty and warm, the bread overbakes. And it's not a crunchy kind of crusty bread that would work in this scenario. No, the whole bowl is tough. I couldn't even cut pieces off with my knife, and forget about ripping it with your hands. It's like a brick. In the end, I just gave up and dug the brie out with my fork and ate it with the accompaniments (honey, fruit, nuts etc) alone. I thought maybe it was just mine that came out that way but others in my group who had ordered it also reported the same. Skip that dish if you come in and order apps. So take a gondola up, or do the hike and come in to warm up. The experience of being here at the top of the world is 100% worth it. But just stick with the beverages. Get a glass of wine or a cocktail and take in the beauty around you. Eat back in town. read more

As all the reviews say, you're most likely paying for the views. We had a 8:15pm reservation- it was the earliest we could get day-of (made the reservation at like 2pm that day) on a Thursday. Our time to go up the Banff Gondola was 7:30pm, but they let us up early around 6:40pm, so we got to the restaurant early and they seated us without a problem. Drinks were good. They gave us 3 pieces of untoasted bread before our entrees... we ordered the watermelon salad, the chicken, and the salmon & mussels (except we switched it out for shrimp). We originally wanted pork belly but they ran out. We asked for grilled chicken on the salad and it was extremely dry. The lemon thyme chicken was pretty good, very moist. The salmon was smaller than I had expected. The portion sizes were relatively small, my brother was still hungry after finishing his meal. Service was relatively good, our waitress was sweet and it was somewhat busy (there were still open tables) so we had trouble grabbing her attention sometimes. read more

The view cannot be beat, the prices and quantity of the food leaves something to be desired but I realize that is how these type of "upscale" restaurants usually are. It's more about the experience and I get that. I would advise looking at the menu and deciding what you want before hand if you're going to go with the sky package which includes the gondola ride, appetizer and entree. Depending on what day you go it might not be worth it to go with the package and especially if you're an Alberta resident (as there is an AB resident discount on the gondola but not the sky package itself) even getting the most expensive stuff on the menu still seemed like it was $30 more that if I just paid for the meal at the time rather than before hand. Cost of gondola fluctuates day and time too so check all those things out if you're on a budget. read more

When I made the reservation a month ago, I have requested it's for our 1st year wedding anniversary(as they asked you on the website booking). The whole time was very disappointed, they did nothing for our special occasion, no dessert offering, not even mention if they could just give us the table by the window, it cost literally NOTHING if they could offer us. Food - starter was decent, the main course was very disappointed, I would rather order more starter than main course honestly. We paid $1172 after tax/tip for the whole menu, but we got nothing for our special occasion for being here! If you're looking for a date night in Banff, look no further. If I may be so bold, let me be your cruise director: Go up the gondola, enjoy the views and deliciousness of sky bistro, check out the piano bar at the Rim Rock then you enjoy a dip in the hot springs under the stars. Of this all-magical date you're about to enjoy, the best bit is definitely dining at Sky Bistro. We were lucky enough to get a window seat at Sky. It took us forever to order, because we were obsessively taking pictures of the sun setting over the rockies. Sorry not sorry. When we finally ordered, I had the very-Canadian pea soup followed by the seafood medley. I highly recommend both, salty warmth followed by lobster, mussels and perfectly seared scallops. Incredible. Pair it with a cocktail and some of their Canadian wine options, and you've got yourself a perfect meal. read more

Sky Bistro was a great experience. The views are immaculate, and the food and drink options match. We had a reservation for lunch and although we arrived 25 minutes early, we were pleasantly greeted and promptly seated. Sky Bistro provided one of the most memorable experiences for my husband and I during our stay in Banff. We had considered visiting in the evening for a romantic sunset dinner but ended up enjoying a more casual lunch instead. Thankfully, the ambience still delivered on the "wow factor", even at an earlier hour. We stepped into the gorgeous dining room around 1pm on a Friday without any line or wait to be seated. No lunch reservations necessary! Everyone else seemed to be in the more family-friendly cafe across the floor, keeping the Bistro more quiet and intimate... score! You typically expect a place with stunning views to compromise on service and menu items, but that's not the case here. The ingredients are regionally-sourced and the options are plentiful. Perhaps best of all, it's not overpriced. My husband and I shared the Bison Burger with the Poutine while soaking up a breathtaking view of the Rockies. So Canadian, eh? We bought the gondola ride and dinner package deal, so we had a smaller menu to choose from for our appetizers and entrees. We didn't miss the larger menu! Would've given this 5 stars, but the pork belly entree was a miss for us -- not seasoned enough, needing more salt and something acidic to complement the fatty meat. Otherwise, the following plates are 100% worth ordering: - bison tartare - delicate and delicious - watermelon salad - sounds boring but SO refreshing - bison tenderloin - the sides to this entree were just as delicious as the meat - strawberry shortcake - I will be dreaming of this for months to come Splurge a little extra for this delicious meal and epic views! read more

We just took a gamble on our trip to Banff to ride the gondola and eat at Sky Bistro. One of the best travel decisions we've ever made. Everything at the top of Sulfur Mountain is enjoyable, entertaining, and informative. Sky Bistro's menu is compact, creative, and diverse, from appetizers through desserts. We found it hard to make a decision, because every item looked wonderful. The chowder appetizer was huge, and full of seafood...fantastic flavor. Halibut cheek was tender and accompanied by two large shrimp. Steak was beautifully done with incredible garnishing, and the pork entre was perfect.
