The mini Beef Wellingtons were amazingly delicious on their own and even better in the house-made dipping sauce. The onion rings were crispy and nicely browned. I loved the family-business atmosphere with Skip's son working the register and calling out orders to his dad. They spread out a deck of card when you order and if you pull a joker they say they will comp the order. I got a Jack, but the prices were reasonable and the food and service was very good. Met up with colleagues for lunch here today and learned that unfortunately the menu still has not evolved to include more than a simple salad for anyone who is vegan/plant-based. Sadly, the housemade veggie burger still contains dairy. The only main without having to remove a bunch of ingredients is the Asian salad. It was basic and since there's no protein offered here that is meat-free it's not worth going out of the way for by any means. I came back to Skips considering that last time i was here the food was good but the service wasn't all that great because they were extremely busy. This time i came and it was less busy and the service was way better, the food was great! When you pay the cashier pulls out a deck of cards, spreads them on the table and says "find the joker and the meal is on me" what ever card you pic if you don't pick the joker just hold on to that card and thats your food order number. Once again i ordered the pastrami sandwich it was great!! I ordered cris cut fries but had them turned into garlic parm for a dollar extra. The fries were good!! Garlicky, crispy and hot! The wife got a western burger with an onion ring and bbq sauce. The customer service was just great!! The owner was so nice and made me feel like i was welcomed, they would refill our drinks, they cleared our table when we were done the whole experience was just amazing. I suggest to stop by when its not as busy that way they can really focus on the service. We had left but I kept thinking bout my experience and the food, so we went back like 40 mins after we left to buy a 50 dollar gift card, because I wanted to have my boy come out and try the food out here. When I went inside to get the gift card it was like a light switch was flipped because the place was already busy. The owner saw me and and had the look on his face like he said "WTH ARE U DOING HERE AGAIN?" Their standard already has the basics which includes lettuce, tomato, onion and orange sauce. I upgraded the fries to parm and garlic.. fountain drink standards. Very friendly service. Burger texture and flavor was good..it was a safe good burger. I wasn't wowe'd but I definitely think it's what the standard should be like. It was also a comfortable size in a briooche bun. I had cut it in half but that just made the bun tear up more. In retrospect sInce it's a doable size I wouldn't cut it in half.. theyy don't have skinny fries but I would come here instead as of any fast food burger joint for when you want a good decent burger that you can trust. I was told medium was quite pinK so I opted for medium well..however I noticEd my friends medium wasn't very pink as I had thought it would be.. next time I'll stick with medium. My friend told me this was the best burger in town so I had to give it a try even though it was out of my way. I pulled up on a Saturday evening and could tell it was busy just from the parking situation. When we went inside, the place was packed so I anticipated a really great burger. There was so many choices on the menu and the atmosphere was so much more lively than I anticipated That I just ordered a bacon and cheddar burger and my husband ordered a bacon western burger. When we sat down, I started having my regrets because everything everyone else was having was looking so amazing and I wish I would've ordered more items. The burger was definitely the best burger in Sacramento. Way better than burgers and brew. I can't wait to go back and try everything. from sandwiches, salads and burgers there's definitely something for everyone. My burger came with Cris cut fries and they were amazing as Cris cut fries could be. I would say this isn't even a bigger and better burger than squeezing. The owner was very friendly and it look like he was working hard as well, which was nice to see along with the rest of the crew, which was mostly a younger staff. First off, the customer service was amazing. Skip took the time to chat with us despite the place being PACKED - I mean, every table was full and he still managed to have a nice conversation with us. This type of interaction with business owners is rare these days. For food I had the Mac puppies and spinach-arugula salad with steak. The steak was so flavorful and tender, I can't wait to come back. The gentleman at the front was sweet as well, he did his rounds and asked if I wanted any refills and promptly came and cleared our table as we finished our meal. Original Skip burger with cheddar cheese: Being here for the first time, I asked the person taking my order what burger is the most popular. This was it. How was it? wow wow wow. It was one of the freshest and juiciest tasting burgers. It had the right amount of fat, freshest ground meat flavor without any odd or old tasting ground beef, just pure bliss cooked medium rare. Excellent. the accompanying sweet potatoes fries were freshly fried, properly seasoned, and hot. Mushroom and Swiss burger: my dining companion ordered her burger well done. But surprise...She said the burger patty was not dry but tasty and juicy. Another wow. the cottage fried were also freshly fried, properly seasoned, and hot. Heap salad: ordered without bleu cheese crumbles and added chicken. This salad came with a slightly dry chicken pieces and pieces of properly cooked country bacon pieces. However, the lettuce didn't taste like it was freshly prepped but from a bag- i hope i am wrong here, but if it was freshly prepped, then it needed to be tossed. Pros: fresh soft buns, freshly prepared burgers, perfectly cooked burgers, freshly prepared fries Cons: the lettuce used for their salads and on their burgers needs some help. if the greens in the salads and burgers were "fresher" it would definitely give Tower Cafe, Pangea's, Crepes and Burgers, Burgers and Brew, Riverside Clubhouse, and Ettore's another major challenge in terms of being one of Sacramento's more established best burger places. Love this place! We came last night for dinner around 7:30pm and it wasn't too packed considering the place is small, but they do have 2 big tables outside with cover as well. We order the Mini Beef Wellingtons, Bacon and Cheddar Burger with Garlic Parmesan Fries, Kid's Quesadilla with fresh fruit and The Heap salad with chicken. The salad was great - something about those candied walnuts and chucks of bacon just made it all come together. The quesadilla was made with Kraft american cheese which is one of the best cheeses in my opinion! The burger was very juicy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. It might just be me, but I feel like most burger places lack when it comes to seasoning their burger patty and Skip's definitely does not disappoint - I would eat that patty by itself! I wasn't a huge fan of the Mini Wellington's, but I mostly ordered them just to try them because they aren't something you would typically see on a burger joint menu. They do this pretty cool card thing too when you order - the waitress fans out a deck of cards and if you pull a Joker, the whole meal is on them! Decided to try something while I was near the Arden auto-mall. First time here and it was a great experience. Skip was there, Manning the counter, helping out in the kitchen & checking in with guests that were dining. It's a small place with outdoor seating. SERVICE- was Exceptional. Skip truly cares that your food is right and he's a genuinely nice guy. I have to admit it felt a little awkward, I feel like they are so busy that one more person there would allow them to enjoy what they are doing and not feel rushed. FOOD- everything is fresh, top quality. skips original burger, my husband always has a complaint about the food he orders but not this burger. He said it was perfect! Comes with waffle fries or sweet potato fries. Chose waffle nothing exceptional about fries though. Chipotle Chicken Pesto- this is a good sandwich, grilled chicken breast topped with a chipotle pesto sauce (more chipotle than pesto), lettuce, cheese & tomatoes. I felt like the bread could not support the contents, it was messy to eat. Overall good though. Typical soft drinks- coke products Beers on tap- atleast 4 - plus some bottled options. Dessert was also available, cookie ice cream sandwiches. Featuring Fat Cat Cookies. I didn't get one but will on my next trip. Also have to look at the small plates available too. Fun Fact- once you're done ordering you pick from a deck of cards and if you choose joker your lunch is on Skip! Happened to a gentleman as i ate my lunch.
