I wasn't sure about this place because of the mixed reviews, but I thought I'd give it a try. I came here after work for a drink and bite to eat. I had trouble finding the entrance but figured out it is part of cafe Bernardo, tucked into the back of the restaurant. I ordered a cocktail that had on the menu that is basically a fruity lemon drop. I also had the loaded fries and a pizza. The food and drinks were delicious. The server was also very friendly and checked in with us to make sure everything was ok and see if we needed anything. The decor was very cool too. I will definitely be going back. read more

A snug little bar between Ruth's Chris and cafe Bernardo. They have a link walkway into cafe Bernardo or vice versa. At the time I went there was only one bartender who was doing an incredible job of trying to balance orders especially in orders of customers that came first. Although I had to wait for awhile the bartender still gave me his attention and patience for deciding which beer I liked. He was even able to hand me tastings to whatever drafts they had at the time. Love the Berkley Bar! Location, location, location! And that is conveniently inside Cafe Bernardo in the beautiful Pavillions Shopping Center. Both the Bar and Cafe are owned and operated by the Paragary family. If you do not want to walk thru the Cafe, you may enter from the outside of the Bar through the beautiful glass doors. The Bar itself is small and intimate. Love that detail! It has clean lines with soft lights, tv for those sport fans and modern, high top tables with comfortable chairs...my fav! A couple of booths too. Can you say, "upscale" feel all the way. What more do you need! There is also a separate outside patio for the bar patrons! It has a real nice vibe. Lovely in the spring and fall. Another plus is the full service feature always going on. It shares the same menu with the Cafe but provides a real person coming to your table taking your order and delivering your food. Unlike certain Cafe hours where you must walk in and self order at the front. Let's talk Happy Hour! May I just say it totally rocks! While the liquor part of the HH is not a huge discount, the Bar Bites portion of the menu is quite a money saver. And your choices are varied and delicious. I must have a photo of it somewhere on my check-ins. I personally love the seasonal pizza. It is $14 regular and half off during HH. Whoa Nelly!:) Nachos, burger sliders, and more. Went in to Berkley Bar yesterday morning, and the bartender was cold and unfriendly. A young thin short brunette lady who did not make me feel at home. Never really around, talking to other guests, wasn't the one who initiated any part of our lunch. Oh well I'm sure nothing will really happen to her. Attached to Cafe Bernardo in the Pavilions shopping center. Came for Happy Hour (HH) since it's half off bar bites. Got Bar Fries, Street Tacos (3), and Black Bean Nachos for $16! What a deal. It wasn't busy on a Monday, but service was lacking. It's full service on the bar side, but it seemed like only the Asian guy was working. All three ladies were just standing/sitting and talking to each other. One was eating and on her phone..we sat right behind/next to them, so they should have seen us just waiting for our check. Had to ask for box and the check after watching them socialize for almost 10 min. The food was alright. Good for the price, but I would be disappointed if I paid full price. Flavors just weren't there..fairly bland. Overall, I would recommend for HH as it's a good value, but otherwise I would definitely skip this place. read more

Cafe Bernardo w/ a full bar and table service, what could be better?! I don't know if these two just joined forces or they are owned by the same folks. All that matters is the food is great and bar is chill. Our first time trying Berkeley Bar. It was hard to find because it is located inside of Cafe Bernardo and there was no separate signage that was visible from the parking lot. Once we were able to locate the Berkeley Bar we were pleased with the decor, the friendly staff, and the music. It was a quiet day there with only 7 patrons including the two of us so I can't speak to the atmosphere or noise level when, and if, they have more business. We were there for a late lunch/early dinner and a cocktail around 4:00. I ordered the Salmon BLT and it was delicious. My husband ordered the Cũbano and was pleased. Both sandwiches came from the kitchen of the adjacent Café Bernardo. Our cocktails were a disappointment as both were flat tasting and I overheard a gentleman at the bar who also complained about his drink. Also, they were out of many ingredients to make their "signature cocktails". We would definitely go back for the food and have cocktails elsewhere. read more

I stopped here with a friend for a drink after our nail appt. We were going to Cafe Bernardo and happened to stumble upon a Saturday happy hour #score! It was at the Berkeley Bar. Lots of open seating and dimmer ambiance. Happy hour was a couple bucks off beer/wine and half off appetizers. We arrived at around 5:30 HH ending at 6. Our server was ok at first, but it was hard to flag her down. Closer to 6 we wanted to order some more HH menu items. After finally flagging her down and mentioning we wanted another round, she seemed a little annoyed saying ok u better order now cuz it's like 5:59. We had only been trying to get her attention the last 10 min lol Overall food was ok, drinks were good. The Brussels sprouts were good, but a little on the oily side. This is a nice and comfortable bar. Marissa & Lisa are the best bartenders this side of town! They are fast, efficient, super friendly and they do make the place. Their new manager is also a great addition. Berkley Bar has a decent happy hour and good food from Cafe Bernardo next door, the bar food at happy hour is great! Their craft cocktails are pretty good as well, they have a decent whiskey selection and wine list. Best of all they make their food from reputable local farms and organic produce when possible. read more

My Boss, a few coworkers and I drifted to Berkley Bar after trying (and failing) to get into Ruth Chris' Happy Hour next door. It was still before 5:00pm, so we found seats on the patio and plenty of seats inside the bar. Service was prompt and we were able to order a few drinks and appetizers. Berkley Bar is connected to Cafe Bernardo so all the food comes from there. Drinks were good and well made, and they had a great menu of speciality cocktails for Happy Hour. Everyone loved the Pepperoni Pizza and I thought the Grilled Cheese with Jalapeños and Avocado was good as well with the unique flavors. Everyone thought the Sliders were tasty, and the Quesadilla got the same reviews. My favorite was the Macaroni and Cheese because it had a lot of cheese and great cheesy flavor. I also loved the Butterscotch Pot de Creme because it was nice and light, but had a good strong butterscotch flavor. Mmm... Overall I would come back when in the area again. It was a nice night so the patio filled up quickly, but there were plenty of seats in the bar. Food and drinks were reasonably priced and they have a good Happy Hour. Need I say more? read more

This is one of the best places to come out of the Paragary empire. It's a casual bar with an upscale atmosphere neighboring Cafe Bernardo. It's sort of hidden in a corner of the shopping center behind Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, but that just adds to the appeal. We came in late on a Sunday evening and found the place pretty much empty. The bartender was friendly and his drinks, especially the signature house gin gimlet, were well-made and perfectly balanced. We grabbed some seats on the patio and enjoyed one of the first real warm summer evenings. Berkley Bar is a step above the casual lunch-and-go atmosphere of the cafe next door. Consider this on your list for great spots to grab a drink, watch a game, or just chat and enjoy. read more

This was the worst experience I have had in a LONG time at this restaurant and I will not be back. We waited for over 45 min for two burgers and one skirt steak. The waitress never came to see what was going on and when she did, I asked her how much longer for our food. she went back to the kitchen to ask where our food was. She came back to our table and said oh it'll be there in a minute. She Went away 15 minutes later came back and said where's your food like I was suppose to know. She finally brought our food out which was all wrong. everybodys food was on the wrong plates and then when we all tried our food, it was all all stone cold. Didn't know this little gem existed. Coming into the restaurant I was full of hope and excitement. Sat down, greeted by the male bartender that immediately brought us water. Off to a great start. He gave us a few moments to look at the menu and the next check in was from the female bartender/server. We ordered the Love not War drink and her immediate response was a big old sigh. She did not sell us this drink at all so we asked if it was bad and her response was that it was a new drink and she wasn't gonna be the one making it so that didn't leave us w a great feeling that we had ordered that. However, once it came and we had our first sip, it was nothing what we expected. It was freaking delicious!!! Sweet, tart and with a kick of habanero with a Maraschino cherry. Male bartender dropped off the drinks and took a small bar bite order and said would come back for the rest of the order. Well... no one ever came back for 40 mins and by that time we were done w our drinks and our Brussels sprouts that were very very crisp. I like burnt Brussels sprouts so it tasted delicious to me but my friend did not like them one bit... Very bitter and burnt. Unfortunately, we didn't get to order anything else even though she past our table several times checking in on the house wives next to us and cleaned up the table behind us. So we just asked for the check and when she returned for our payment it seemed like we had broken her mainframe once again cuz there was cash and a card to split the bill. Another big sigh, like we were such an inconvenience. Then! She comes to our table and says she knew she was forgetting something and went back to get my card. So disappointing. This is Cafe Bernardo's bar, for those of you driving around in circles because your GPS says you're there and you don't see a sign for Berkley Bar. Walk right through the restaurant and you'll enter a spacious indoor and outdoor bar space always with plenty of seating available. The bartenders are all super friendly and know their drinks, often recommending different brands or combinations. The place is decorated upscale in line with their Pavilion's shopping center home but dress code is casual, neighborhood bar attire. Well, Fair Oaks/Carmichael casual. All the CF fare is available at the bar as well so you can chow down on their famous grub too. It has a fun vibe at the bar because I've noticed the servers sorta of congregate there when they're waiting for food or drinks to be up. They're very friendly with the guests. I prefer this place over nearby Bandera or Ruth Chris because it just feels a little less corporate. read more
