Fantastic Spot To "Pregame" Shows @ Goldfields Next Door…read more SITREP We descended upon the Tack Room an hour before our show for "Ally The Piper" (both the classical AND heavy metal bagpiper extraordinaire) began her show! THE SETUP Goldfields is a charming, rustic country-western stylized saloon that serves up beer at good prices. But we weren't interested in beer and wanted quality cocktails. Hence, our pivot next door to the Tack Room! QUALITY COCKTAILS & DRINKS! The Tack Room specializes an amazing array of martinis, bourbons, and other deLISH cocktail drinks at really really reasonable prices! So this was an excellent choice to chill, thus avoiding the tremendous *noise pollution* we were immediately subjected to upon entering Goldfields an hour later for our show. THE LOWDOWN This is a quality bar with plenty of comfortable seating to relax and have quiet, intimate conversations. So if you and your later friend(s) want some privacy, cocktails at a reasonable price, etc., this is a good way to go.

It's themed around horse racing, but not in an overbearing or... tacky way. The mixologist was delightful and had great recommendations, the lights were dim, and the drinks were all on point. The highlight was the espresso martini, which is among the best I've had. It was reminiscent of the one I had at the Starbucks Roastery in NYC, which is high praise. The other coffee drink that surprised me was the Revolver. I always forget about what a good pairing orange and coffee is, and I'll be taking this one back home with me to try! Every other drink we tried was delicious in some unique way. The Pho drink was savory and surprising, the New York Sour was rich and flavorful, and the Practical Move was refreshing. Will definitely return here after dinner to sip an espresso martini for dessert!

A favorite of theirs is The Snug; they thought we wouldn't be able to get in but thanks to a concert nearby they had free tables. It's primarily a cocktail bar, but I stuck with a beer. Snug is themed around a modernized interpretation of an English hunting lodge--it's dark, moody, and elegant. It has a charming front patio that is made quaint by the high walls and an outdoor fountain separating you from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the bars in the area. Upon entering, you are transported into a dimly lit romance story. The Snug specializes in delightful cocktails that will wow your taste buds! Their menu is both seasonal and rotates regularly so it's a fun treat to swing by and find out what their currently making. One of my favorite recurring items is what they call a Hoosker Doo, which is often a spirit and amaro or apperitif. You can't go wrong with the Carribean Princess! Highly recommend everything we got: Berry Into You, Orange Dreamsicle, Pina Colada, Bxtches Love Flowers, and their Italian Cream Sodas. Small complaint is that the drinks are too ice-heavy, so the amount of actual cocktail you get is not that much. But every drop was yummy. Bartenders and service staff were great.

As for the food: 1. The grilled shrimp were nice and firm and well grilled. Enjoyed them a lot 2. The hash brown fries were pretty unique and definitely a must get. We got introduced to The Butterscotch Den by a couple of lawyers who evidently know the 'hood. Been a while since I've lived/worked in town so they are a great resource to fun places like this. Drinks are delicious. I ordered a couple different sauces to go with our large steak which we split. Even having split the steak, we brought some home. You cook your own so be okay with possibly not sitting the entire time. On the side of the grill are various accoutrements for your steak. Assorted flavored salts as well as regular salt and pepper were included with the experience. You could also order compound butter for a small fee but we didn't. We had reservations and were seated near the grill in the back room. I was surprised to find out that we had to season and grill our own steaks. There's plenty of seasoning and condiments near the grill so you have to season it up there. Then place your meat on the grill and flip it when it's ready. We ordered the 12 oz. rib eye ($43), steamed prawns ($14.50), and a baked potato ($7.50). The rib eye looked really good, but I would have preferred an expert to season the steak for me. I added salt and pepper, and some garlic powder. The flavor turned out nicely, but the crown on top was the additional compound butter and blue cheese sauce we added. The prawns were small shrimps. Not sure why I was picturing large jumbo sized prawns. They tasted fine in garlic butter. The loaded baked potato was delicious. The staff were nice to bring extra toppings when requested. For cocktail, I was leaning towards the strawberry negroni, but the waitress recommended the Cucumber Gimlet, which I ordered. To me, it was okay, mainly because I wasn't crazy about tasting cucumbers and it was not too strong. It was light and refreshing. Since it was a celebration, I had a slice of lemon cake from Freeport Bakery. They put a candle in it and brought out the bubble gun. They carried 2 types of Freeport Bakery cakes, and the lemon was really good. The staff were friendly and helpful. Great first dining experience at The Butterscotch Den.

Im a bit disappointed in the happy hour food…read more I've been here several times for their drinks, but something just didn't click in my most recent visit. I came here for happy hour and ordered a handful of their items. Chicken Lumpia - over all I was pleased with how piping hot, fresh out the fryer it was. A bit thin for my linking but I appreciated there were 6 pieces. The sauce did not pair well. There was something off about it that isn't your typical sweet and sour; maybe the sauce was made in house. Sisig fries - decent portion of fries but fell short on the pork. Lacked an egg and didn't really meet the sisig flavors that I'm used to. You can definitely taste the zestiness of the lemon - nice touch, but other than that it's just fries with pork, red onion and green onion garnish. Hot dog - a $9 happy hour hot dog was the biggest disappointment. Sure the bread texture was good, toasted with a nice chew, but that was it. The dog itself was charged to my linking but it really didn't feel worth the money spent for its portion. Fries - 100% would get again. Cauliflower bites - I liked this too, flavor was good but such a small portion our table has to order two. Similar to the hotdog, not sure if it's worth the spend for the portion size. Despite the food not satisfying my cravings, the service was great. The young lady was helpful and was working hard taking orders, making drinks and delivering the food. The place was pretty busy at least the indoor area. Plenty of seating outside, but in this heat not sure if it's a good idea. Didn't see any misters but would be a nice touch to draw in more folks. Side note: some of the cocktails are premade, and can be overly sweet.
