Me unusual ask
April W.

Had such a lovely experience here. Took an early afternoon appt to get away from life. Booked my appt with Kelly online (online booking is super easy). I was welcomed so warmly, with attention to detail on my reservation requests. I sat at the bar as i looked through quaint old books at the available colors for my manicure. I opted for tea rather than a cocktail, and was pleased to see my fave comfort tea on the menu, which cane in a single little teapot and antique glass teacup and saucer, served at a perfect temp. Kelly chose a station on the bar, with her standing and me sitting. She took in stride my odd requests and assisted with suggestions to modify and make it better. I appreciated her honesty and expertise. She was kind and had great conversation. Everything about this place was perfect. It felt modern, higher end, and personable all at once. Everyone was so nice. The design is impeccable and the whole place is a vibe. I would love to go back and bring everyone i can think of for a relaxing time.

Enjoying a delicious blood orange margarita as I prepare for my manicure!

Looking for a way to pamper ourselves and relax, I scheduled a couple's manicure & pedicure at Moonshine & Co (a business that my wife has had on her radar to visit). The individual that I scheduled the appointment through was extremely personable and patient as I inquired about the services offered. After confirming the date and time, I provided the employee with my debit card information to reserve both appointments. Ironically, it rained on the day of our appointment (yes I know this is a random thing to say), setting the perfect backdrop for us to get our services + have a few adult beverages. Upon walking into the establishment, I was warmly greeted by the owner, Lien, who was arranging a few things behind the bar. After checking me in, Lien provided me with the drink menu and kindly offered some suggestions pertaining to the popular drinks. Lien prepared the Blood Orange Margarita that I ordered (how cool is it that the owner can also bartend!) as I took in the open space, warm lighting, and soulful tunes playing. Once my wife arrived, both nail professionals greeted and ushered us to a table for our manicures. As I received my manicure (I opted for clear polish), Olimpia (the nail professional) ensured that I was relaxed by making pleasant conversation. After confirming my preference of water temperature (hot), Olimpia started the pedicure process. Sensing that I have ticklish feet, she did a great job of checking in with me between exfoliating, moisturizing, and massaging my feet. At the conclusion of our services, my wife and I enjoyed a second round of drinks as we basked in the relaxing environment. I love the concept of being able to enjoy a relaxing service while partaking in a craft cocktail. Before I conclude this review, I also want to highlight that this is a natural nail salon; therefore, there is no use of UV gel polishes or acrylics that can negatively impact the health of your nails. I look forward to a future visit to enjoy the Spring Dragon cocktail + nail services!

My experience at Moonshine & Co was great from start to finish. Making the appointment was easy and straightforward. I wanted to make a dual appointment and did so by reaching out through email. The response was prompt and professional. I received the Get 'Em Tiger Mani Pedi combo. We were greeted at the door and presented with a menu for the bar while we waited for our manicurists. After ordering at the bar we got started with our manicure and the bartender brought us our drinks. I got a birds & bees and a wellness shot. The drinks were well made and served in beautiful glassware. (Forgot to take a picture) Britanny was my manicurist. She was very considerate of my needs and wants for my nails. The pedicure went just as well.

This place is over the top gorgeous. The nail techs are the best and use long lasting, nontoxic polish. And the drinks are sooo delicious. It costs more than most nail salons, but the experience is far beyond ordinary and worth every penny.

To be honest, I don't have the best experience at natural salons. They typically tend to be quite stuffy and I am barely allowed to speak. But moonshine seemed like a cool concept and wanted to bring my husband for Valentine's Day. I was pleasantly surprised from all aspects. The front desk woman was very kind and helpful, even convinced us to get the more expensive pedicures LOL The bartender was extremely into what she's doing. The recommended cocktails were DELICIOUS and you can tell she treats every drink like a little piece of art I LOVED IT. Next was the service form our nail techs Brittany and Nikki. They were so kind and kept up with our random conversations lol The actual pedicure was perfection. It didn't feel rushed even though we were the last guests, and the result was wonderful not just for me but my husband as well. The owner (I'm assuming) was soooo nice and I personally loved that her hubby was there just supporting everything she was doing The ONLY con if I can really think of one was the chair situation. They were just standard (but cute) soft chairs but I do love a good massage chair or one I can move to my comfort when getting my nails done. My hubby and I were so pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. We laughed, drank, and made good conversation with good people. Thank you so much for all you guys do!!!

This place is just the cutest little spot to get your nails done and grab a craft cocktail! It's my new favorite hangout. A perfect spot to have a gathering and hang, grab a drink or do both. We tried the Go get em' Tiger pedicure and 2 cocktails! Wow what a treat! I'll be back! Customer service is fabulous. Make sure you get an appointment Sacto! Products are vegan too.

I'll take my pedicure with a martini please! Super cute salon with a bar! The decor and ambience were my favorite features- lovely, cozy and welcoming. The price point is higher and I've technically had better pedicures. But it's still worth it for a special occasion or just to treat yourself to something different. The bar menu has some creative and classic cocktails. Definitely worth a try.

Amanda F.

Such a great spot! Everyone is warm and welcoming. The decor and cocktails are both fantastic, and my nails look great. They don't do acrylics, which I prefer because the salon smells like limes from the bar and freshness, instead of smelling like acrylics. Definitely check this spot out.

Today was our last full day in Sacramento and we decided to come to Moonshine & Co! It's located next to the NAKED coffee shop which was honestly a lifesaver. My gf and I are not used to waking up this early but we wanted to try this spot before we left and it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! My nail tech was Cherry and she was such a vibe. I recently went to a wedding and because I'm not used to nail polish, I ended up ripping off the gel polish I had the moment my nails started to grow out. Needless to say, they looked terrible. She repaired them effortlessly and turned me on to some cuticle oil to help with maintenance. 10/10 would recommend her to anyone. My gf got a Mani/Pedi with Bao! This woman was simply just a lovely human being. You could tell she knew exactly what she was doing and she was just so knowledgeable about everything that could harm or help your nails. She took her time and didn't rush through any of the processes which contributed to the overall vibe of the spot. 10/10 would recommend Bao as well. She told us that a lot of Nail places will tout that they use natural ingredients but this spot was 100% about it. The cocktails were simply to die for. What I really enjoyed was the diversity of the ingredients they used to isolate and nullify the taste of the alcohol. I especially loved their full use of aromas to accentuate certain flavors for a more palatable treat. I've owned my own for a few years prior to covid and I've definitely got to say that the backstory given to each cocktail is a brand in and of itself. The story, taste and feel really cultivated a relaxed & rejuvenating environment. 10/10 recommend a cocktail to enhance your experience. 20% gratuity is already added to your bill so there's no awkward fumbling of cash after the experience. You're free to go if that's your wish but my gf and I definitely felt it necessary to tip beyond that. Would highly recommend because they're honestly good at what they do. Everyone there made you feel welcomed all the way including till the end of checkout. I just want to add that I'm not one to do my nails but I've had to get them done for weddings and such. I was simply impressed by their service mentality alone. They do go above and beyond and I will definitely be back again when I'm back in Sacramento. Even if you don't need to get your nails done, just go for the cocktails and a hot towel service add on. You won't be disappointed.

We also all tried the shooters, I had the Nesbitt, and he got the Perry. Every drink was delicious, no complaints from any of us. The lady helping us with our order was super sweet, patient, and friendly, and the guy who seated us deserves a shoutout too. There was a small mix-up, but he made it right and got us that perfect fireplace seating. Gold star service. Overall, I'd rate the experience a solid 9 out of 10. And can we talk about the bathroom for a sec? A black toilet paired with deep green walls? Obsessed. Trophy Club is absolutely becoming one of my favorite spots. I remember from the video they said this was considered a "bartenders bar",the kind of spot that that bartenders and workers in the industry would hangout after their shifts-I liked the sound of that. Walking up to where I thought the bar was located,it was kinda funny because it was just an innocent looking blue door with the words "Cocktail" along the side-doesn't look like much at all,I'd imagine I've walked by this place many times without thinking of ever going in-that was changing this time. When I walked in I 100% knew I was stumbling upon something special-it was a tiny place but it was overflowing with energy, not many booths in this bar and it may be the smallest bar I've ever been to but it felt special.Looking at the clientele I felt like I was with my people,it was so cool in there. This is the kind of place I would take my wife and any of my friends before a special night out and be it a dinner or a concert or a production at Safe Performing Arts Center and feel like it would set the right vibe for the night. Looking over the menu, they had some very interesting looking drinks, the wife went with a French 75($12.00)and I went with a Pecan Brown Sugar Old Fashioned($16.00)The bartenders are very friendly and super personable and really took their time and took pride in their drinks-I had never had an Old Fashioned quite like that one,but it went down super smooth-I loved i-I look forward to going there again asap. A coupe of things about this bar-they do only have 1 unisex bathroom,it was very clean. Also this place is so old school that they are a "Cash-Only " bar. They do have an atm in the bar in case you forget your cash. They have a big fish tank behind the bar that really put the room together nicely-I liked it a lot. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the Ice Blocks part of midtown and want to experience an awesome bar that feels very unique-head on down to Frank and have a drink or two-you won't regret it-I think I may have found my new favorite bar in all of Sacramento. PS-I loved talking to the bartender telling me how they don't carry Don Julio but have many varieties of Fortaleza instead-a true IYKYK moment if there ever was one-this place rocks.

The cucumber jalapeño margarita was refreshing, though a little sweeter than I expected and missing the spicy kick I was hoping for. The guacamole was fresh and tasty, but the portion was quite small and barely enough for two people in my opinion. The salsa was also small but it was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken tacos were excellent, with tender chicken that was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. The enmoladas were also fantastic and are a great way to sample Oaxaca's three unique mole sauces, each with its own distinct character. One thing to note is that the chicken filling is intentionally prepared very simply in traditional Oaxacan cuisine so that the mole remains the star of the dish. If you prefer heavily seasoned meat, this dish may be milder than what you are used to. Overall, everything we tried was delicious and offered a wonderful taste of authentic Oaxacan flavors. When we walked in I knew I was in the perfect spot-this bar has those low lights that all the bars in the 70s and 80s had-giving off a both romantic and mysterious vibe to it-I was in love with the place from that moment on. The music that day was awesome-I heard they have live music at times but at the time of my visit they did not-they were instead playing 90s and 2000s R&B and Hip Hop-it was wonderful-one banger after another-so yeah I was vibing. Our waitress couldn't have been cooler-she was as friendly as can be-suggesting drinks that were both on and off the menu-her and I were sharing tequila stories based on our shared affinity for the Fortaleza tequila they had in stock -which is super rare and it's how I judge every bar-whether or not they have Fortaleza tequila on hand and The Butterscotch Den had multiple bottles on hand. We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.
