I love Hot Bunz overall, but my experiences in 2026 have been very hit or miss. Several years ago, when I was still living in the government housing projects, I read an article about this new restaurant Hot Bunz, who was coming in hot as direct competition to In N Out. They were being advertised as like, a more "hood" version of In N Out. The food would be saucier, the fries would be stacked higher, and, most importantly, bacon and jalapeños would be available options. When I saw a location in Elk Grove, I assumed it was the original. I tried it, loved it, tried it again, and loved it again. This pattern went on for a while. Overall, my experiences have been mostly positive. Overall, I like Hot Bunz better than the competition. They are a little pricier, but it's *usually* worth it. Recently, I noticed this location on Sunrise, found out that it was in fact the *original* location, and decided to give it a try. The burger was good. I would never want to discourage anyone from trying this small business. I mostly want to hype them up. But I also want to be honest that if either of my last two experiences with Hot Bunz had been my first, they would have also been my last. A few weeks ago, I had a less than stellar experience at the Elk Grove location. My food was good, but did not nearly live up to the brand expectations. I thought, surely this was just a fluke incidence. Surely the OG location will be even better. Upon entering the Sunrise location, I was immediately impressed with the artwork on the walls. The murals themselves are like a slap in the face to all the major competitors. I loved that there was no line. I had actually been on my way to my favorite In N Out location, but came here instead due to an obscene line. Someone from the back yelled out, "I'll be right with you!" I could hear him washing dishes for a few minutes before he came out. It felt clear that I had arrived during a break in the storm, and he was trying to catch up. I asked him what came on the OG, and either he was extremely stoned, or he has a speech impediment that is so severe that maybe he shouldn't be working the front counter (but what I'm saying is: he was high AF). Look, it's no secret that virtually all restauranteurs are high virtually all the time. I'm not trying to be a Karen, I'm just saying that literally the only two words I could make out were "patties" and "grilled onions." I said, "let me just try that." "No fries or drink?" "No, just the burger." "Nine seventy. HEY! IT'S JUST AN OG!" He began yelling to the back before turning his body, resulting in him yelling in my face. Of course, I would never expect the burger I receive to look exactly like the burger in the picture-- but this didn't even look like the same burger that was being advertised on the promotional signage. The burger in the promo was stacked high with some kind of slaw, pickles, and sauce. My actual burger had barely any toppings. As someone who worked at McDonald's for a few years as a teenager, I felt that this burger had exactly the same amount of rizz as regular cheeseburger from Ronald. I came here for an "extra" burger, but (as evidenced by the picture I uploaded) received a burger that could have come from any public country club kitchen. And, while these onions may have graced the grill, the onions I received are not what most people would refer to as "grilled onions." I'm not sure if Hot Bunz is going downhill, or if I just had two fluke bad experiences in a row.

My burger-loving friend loves this place. I personally dont get it myself, but if this is your vibe you love it. They were playing SpongeBob on the TV and they have both fresh and pickled jalapeno options. Burgers are a fair price. Food is hot and fresh, except the mac attack was kind of cold. Onion ring portion was a bit expensive for $8. If you're into Arby's burgers you'd probably like this place, just not really for me.

After reading the glowing Yelp reviews of "Hot Bunz" (which calls itself the "baddest burger in town") from my good Yelp Elite friends, Janelle M. and Carol P., I just had to try this place out for myself. Located directly on Sunrise Blvd and just north of White Rock Rd in Rancho Cordova, this location has been open dating back to September 2022. Since then, they opened a 2nd location (in mid-2023) in South Sacramento/Elk Grove at the corner of Bruceville Rd/Cosumnes River Blvd. Their concept is simple and that is delivering the best smash-styled burgers in the Sacramento area. I am a huge of this type of burger as you can truly taste that charred open-flame taste. I came here during the evening on Friday 3/6/2026 at around 5:45pm. Parking was not an issue at all nor was finding this place very difficult since the bright red neon lights are highly visible from Sunrise Blvd. Upon entry, this place screams color in all directions as the cartoon-styled graphics add a ton of flare and excitement to the interior of the business. When you go to an "In-N-Out", "Five Guys", or "Smashburger", none of those places have that striking dazzling artwork that is found here. There is ample seating throughout complete with a condiment station area that has jalapeños and pepperoncinis to truly spice up your burger. Their menu is quite simple but that's not a bad thing. The burgers itself come fully loaded in either a single or double patty with their thousand island-type sauce, grilled onions, pickles, and American cheese in between a soft buttery bun. You also can add lettuce and tomatoes at no additional charge. The fries are well seasoned and are included with every combo meal. You also have the option of ordering a Mac Attack (macaroni & cheese) as well as a keto cheeseburger bowl (no bun). Since I was starving, I went with the "Classic Smash Combo #1" (for $19 + tax) which was 2 double meat patties w/fries. Drinks on the combo meals are sold separately. The burgers and fries arrived within 10 minutes and everything looked amazing. One bite of this and was absolutely sold as this was exactly what a smash burger should taste like. The meat was grilled to perfection and the melted cheese was perfectly balanced in between the soft spongy bun. I also enjoyed the tanginess of the sauce while it made for a perfect dip for the fries (which were seasoned with paprika and other spices). The service here was just okay as the employees did not have much of a personality. But nonetheless, these burgers are absolutely the real deal. All in all, "Hot Bunz" is the real deal. And since they are open 7 days a week from 11am-10pm, you can get your burger fix late morning or late at night. With that said and done, I am giving this place a perfect five-star rating.

Hot Bunz had been on our list ever since we first noticed it after moving to the area, and we're so glad we finally tried it. My husband and I came about an hour before closing, and even then there was still a solid crowd dining in and ordering which is always a good sign. As soon as we walked in, we were immediately in awe of the bright and colorful murals on the walls. My husband even pointed out how the artwork cleverly incorporates other burger joints, almost like Hot Bunz is being crowned the best burger spot in town... which, after eating here, we completely agree with. Truly is the "baddest burger in town!" I loved how simplified the menu was and straight to the point, it wasn't overwhelming at all and showcased their burgers perfectly with enough detail to know what you would want. We ordered the #4 combo, which comes with TWO classic smash burgers and fries for only $19! Such an absolute steal! We also added frisky fries and a drink for my husband, and a vanilla milkshake for me. Despite there being several orders ahead of us, our food came out in about 5-10 minutes, which was super impressive in my opinion. Everything was DELICIOUS! The smash burgers were perfectly cooked, flavorful, and a great size. The fries were crispy, well-seasoned, and addicting. I especially loved my vanilla milkshake which I honestly thought was better than most vanilla milkshakes I've had at other burger joints. They also serve their special sauce on the side, which both my husband and I couldn't get enough of. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and kept the place clean and well-kept the entire time we were there. Overall, we're so happy to have a local burger spot like this so close to home. We already know exactly where we'll be going next time we're craving a really good burger! I definitely want to try their Mac and cheese next time since that was a side dish that I had my eyes on.

A great local burger spot and definitely a standout in the Rancho Cordova area which has long been lacking a really good burger option outside of In N Out. It fills that gap perfectly and does so with consistency. I usually go with the jalapeño smash and it never disappoints. The burgers are juicy well seasoned and cooked properly with a great sear that adds real flavor. No matter how busy they are the burgers have always been on point and tasty which keeps me coming back. The menu stays focused and simple which works in their favor. They concentrate on executing burgers well rather than overcomplicating things. The fries are a solid pairing and round out the meal nicely. Hot Bunz is not trying to reinvent the burger but they are doing it right. For Rancho Cordova this place is a welcome addition and an easy recommendation if you want a reliably good burger.

Savory hot bunz!! Wanted a tasty, McFatty meal right after kayaking a for a few hours at Nimbus dam. Yelp search brought us to try Hot Bunz and it didn't disappoint! Do yourself a favor and get the meals with 2 burgers, not 1. You'll end up craving and have space for more after that first incredibly packed burger. Classic smash or Jalapeno smash - you can't go wrong and you'll be glad you did. Kids enjoyed it, family loved it, and it's a shame it's so far from home but curiosity was fulfilled at least. I really liked that they had a station to simply dig into more peppers and sides for our burgers. Ample parking right out front and to the side, spacious dining room with a decent amount of tables, friendly and fast service, decent prices for specialty burgers (yes, a bit pricey), and chill ambience for families and friends. I think I recall seeing TVs also - a plus to watch some sports while splurging on the loaded, spiced up, delicious burgers!

I really don't know how this place isn't more popular? Great, delicious smash burgers, with crispy well seasoned fries. In addition, the prices are very reasonable. Clean establishment, service is great! If you've never been here before, I would highly recommend. One of the better burger joints in the greater Sacramento area.

Triple Smash combo with a side of Mac and Cheese.

Don't sleep on this amazing smash burger spot. The fries are freshly seasoned and hit the spot. The Mac and Cheese was creamy with a bit of jalapeño juice tang? It's so subtle, thinking it had to be because I didn't see any seasoning. Oh and plenty of space with three large televisions to watch the games.

Pretty cool burger joint. It's in an interesting location, but nevertheless, wanted to try out a new burger joint. Hot Bunz makes smashburgers and pretty dang good ones! We ordered their combo which came with two double meat smashburgers and fries. We also got a drink to share and onion rings. The price was decent. The burgers were delicious. They were flavorful, juicy, and definitely smashed. The sauce was good. A little tangy and the grilled onions went great together with it all. The fries stayed crispy the whole time while eating them. The onion rings were also good and cooked perfectly. While you're eating, you can enjoy the murals of their mascot beating up your favorite other fastfood mascots haha Good place to try some smashburgers. I would come back if I was craving a good smashburger.

Kids meal

My kids will eat the burgers and fries here. The waiter isn't bad and its not too busy. We go here monthly. The smash burger meal with the 2 burgers is enough to share. The burger tastes charbroiled and thin layers on top and with the sauce is delicious. The milkshakes are good too. Definitely should try them out.

Western Smash

Went here with a group of friends. It was a good time. We ordered a jalapeño burger, western burger and Mac attack. Every thing was good. The murals in the restaurant are lively and fun. Great opportunity to take photos. Jalapeño burger has 3 smash patties and fresh grilled jalapeños very good super tasty patties are well seasoned great Smashburger. The french fries very seasoned good but would be better if more crispy. Western burger 15 bucks three smash patties, with cheese and bacon and onion ring. Pretty standard bacon burger, but still good. Mac Attack mac was good however, once you get done with the french fries just feels like a lot going on in one dish. I'd be back. It's heavy though. Great comfort food.

We have been coming here since they opened and the food never seems to disappoint. My favorite is the #4 and now they offer western style for the burgers! Go there, you'll be happy you did!

I walked in and no one was there. It did make me a little worried but also glad because I was able to order quickly. Love the decor inside. The walls are decorated with colorful murals. Inside was well kept and clean! I ordered the classic smash meal. Burger had great flavor and seasoned well. Same with the fries. I do wish a meal combo came with a drink but instead you get two burgers. Depending on your appetite, you can feed two people with one combo.

Every time, we go straight for the burgers - they're fresh, yummy, and oh-so-tasty! The presentation is lovely, showing the care that goes into each dish. This is quiet, clean, and organized. Not to mention the service is phenomenal! The staff is always friendly and kind, making us feel right at home. They have kiosks to order the food. Plenty of seating in the food Court as well as bathrooms. Everything looks new and clean. Comfortable environment. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches. The sandwiches looked so good we almost didn't want to eat them haha. The Seoul morning sandwich was incredible. A lot of flavors going on. We got it with bacon. But there's so many flavors happening. You could just order it without any meat and it would still be delicious. The Korean egg drop sandwich was mouthwatering as well. Totally different from the Seoul sandwich. We got it with sausage. Scrumptious. The eggs were fluffy and the sandwich was made to perfection. To be honest. I think these could be some of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city. Just incredible. The service was good. They were very busy other orders. Staff is extremely friendly and gave me a tip for a burger I should try next time. If the burgers taste as good as the breakfast then I'm in for a treat. They also have wings and tenders. This is a must try spot.
