Yerevan in Sacramento/ Carmichael offers an exquisite Armenian cuisine experience. The dishes are top tier. Paired with an elegant and inviting ambiance, great service, occasional live music, and a solid bar selection. Anthonyxibarrax

Lamb kebob

This restaurant opened not too long ago in my neighborhood. After months of driving past it, I decided to give it a try. I've never had Armenian food and was thrilled to have such a friendly server who walked us through both the menu and the house specialties. Everything I ate last night was a first time taste for me! We were served a bread basket that contained bread and lavash and was accompanied by hummus. We shared khinkali, a dough stuffed with broth and deliciously spiced meat. Our second dish was Tjvjik, one recommended by our server. It was beef liver and beef heart stewed in tomatoes, onions and bell peppers. Our server said to spread this on the lavash, roll it up and take bites of it that way. It was amazing, and I'm not a super big fan of organ meats, so that's saying a lot. Our third shared dish was a lamb kebob and every part of it was delicious. The lamb was perfect and the roasted tomato and chili was delicious. The rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly. For dessert we had Armenian coffees and the Armenian Napoleon. Absolutely delicious! I can't wait to go back and discover more Armenian specialties. Give them a try and don't be shy asking for recommendations.

This is a unique place. I had driven by it many a times and didn't know what it was. It is named after the Armenian capital. They have lamb, beef, and chicken dishes. Vegetarian dishes are probably only appetizer salads and hummus. We had the khinkhali These were massive soup dumplings that had european flavoring. You try to drink the soup, cover/dip in sour cream. The center top part is a bit thick so I threw it away. We had the lamb kebab with favorful rice, with Seasoned and cooked tomato and pepper. My favorite hands down with the borscht with tender break apart beef. I would definitely come here again. It is on a busy street or fair oaks, easy to miss given how fast the cars go by here. Inside is an oasis of pretty decor, live violinist, great wait staff, delicious food. Hope more people try it out! Definitely a hidden gem. Have your stomach ready the food is hardy

We had a large group dinner at Yerevan (23 people). Booking the the table was easy and the restaurant didn't require a minimum spend or deposit for dining in the regular area (it is required for the private room). I pre ordered some appetizers the day before as suggested by the server when she took my booking so they would be ready for guests when they arrived. The food was delicious. We got some dolmas, khinkali (I liked the steamed ones better), meat platters, salad, salmon and shrimp skewers. The service was excellent, especially for such a large party. Our server was friendly, kept on top of things like water and our food did not take long to come out. The only minor thing was that they only had one bartender so drinks were a little slow. Overall a great evening out!

We came here for a private Christmas party with about 60 people and were placed in a private room that was spacious enough but still intimate. The servers were all very attentive and polite. We were fortunate to sample a large variety of appetizers and entrees. I'm not very familiar with Armenian food but it was all very delicious and reminded me of Greek / Mediterranean food. The big standouts were the eggplant and chicken salad appetizers and the grilled chicken, pork, lamb, and beef. We had a wonderful dinner and evening entertainment and look forward to coming back again in the regular restaurant.

We came around 8 PM, even though they close at 10 PM, but they refused to serve us. Very disappointing experience.

After enjoying glasses of chardonnay at nearby Luna Lounge (please reference my review if…read moreinterested), my wife and I headed to The Blind Pig to enjoy a few cocktails. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly bartender by the name of Ronny. Our first round consisted of two dirty martinis (my new drink of choice), which Ronny put his fist (that's a good thing) into making. One of the things that I love about dive bars is the various demographics that usually frequent them (along with their interesting conversations). For our second round we ordered a "Manmosa (yes I know that sounds ridiculously machismo in 2024)" that Ronny insisted on putting a fruity spin on. Not only were we thankful for his suggestion, but his version was GOOD! In real dive bar-like fashion, Ronny provided us both with an extra cup to house the remainder of the Manmosa that could not fit into our glasses (another dive bar perk). As we sat at the bar, my wife and chatted while lightly watching the movie Step Brothers on one of the televisions. Although it was a fairly slow Saturday afternoon, I can imagine that this place gets pretty lively in the latter part of the night though. We observed lots of seating, games, and an area for karaoke (toasted karaoke is the best!). I highly recommend The Blind Pig if you're looking to have deliciously strong drinks at a price that won't have you waking up the next morning rethinking the decisions that you made the previous night!

I do have one suggestion. I completely understand and appreciate the elevated vibe they're going for--it's part of what makes the place special. That said, I think there may be a bit of a missed opportunity with the bocce ball courts. There are large signs saying kids can't play on them and must stay with adults, but honestly, I come here at least once a quarter and they're often not being used. Given the location and the number of families in the area, it could be interesting to consider adding a small playground in the back. I know that might sound unconventional for a place like this, but I've seen restaurants do this successfully in Europe. What's really missing around here is a place where parents can enjoy an incredible meal and drinks while their kids have a safe place to play nearby. Right now, the only places that come close are breweries. There are almost always families here when I visit, so just a thought! Either way, Shangri-La remains one of my favorite spots.

While a booth would be preferable as they can accommodate a group our size, those are prized on Trivia night. This evening, staff brought an additional four stools to the bar so we could all sit. They were out of the "Jackrabbit done gone working(?) Pilsner" so, I ordered the lager. On the special list was a rib eye, but I didn't care for the sides (garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus), so I went with the New York off the main menu which included herbed butter, mashed potatoes, heirloom tomato with crumbled gorgonzola. Steak was done to medium rare perfection, potatoes delicious and I very much enjoyed the tomatoes. Katie ordered a salad, She and JJ shared her margarita pizza. It was huge. We brought some home. Didn't see what the others ordered but all enjoyed their food and drinks. Trivia here is a ton of fun. Friends have hired the emcee for private gatherings. The stress over seating may have us seeking out another venue.

This time around, we hit up the happy hour menu and ordered a few appetizers. The nachos were solid, but the cheese bread stole the show. So. Freaking. Good. Totally worth the carb splurge (even if tomorrow me might have some regrets... today me has zero).
