The Sitzmark Lodge is arguably the best kept secret in Vail. A perfect location, a delightful pool, clean rooms and wonderful free breakfast make it ideal for visiting. It's a friendly place with free parking, laundry and best of all, a very reasonable rate, making it all perfect for families visiting Vail. Having said that, don't expect luxury or sophistication. It's basically a "Hampton Inn" - styled hotel. But that's OK, because you're in Vail not to be inside, but out enjoying the beautiful Rocky Mountains and the lovely upscale community nestled along the river.

We had an amazing 4 nights at Sitzmark! The location is unbeatable in vail Village, close to the green space and tons of restaurants and shopping. Friendly front desk staff that greet you by name, very clean and a great breakfast including breakfast sandwiches/burritos. Was very impressed by it. As a warm sleeper who loves a freezing room, i thought the no air conditioning would be a bigger issue but it truly wasn't, even with some warmer summer temperatures (mid 80s) but we left the window open at night and had the fan. The village trash pick up and street sweep comes super early (6-630) so if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs. Overall such a great experience and we will be back!

We had a great stay at The Sitzmark! It's in the heart of Vail Village so once we parked our car in the free parking, we walked everywhere. Don't let it scare you that it was built in 1969. Yes, the trim and carpet is outdated but our room was clean and very roomy. Our King room had a balcony that overlooked the Gore Creek. They had a complimentary continental breakfast which saved us $ on one of our meals. There's no elevator from the e parking which was a little bit of a hassle when you are carrying suitcases, but it definitely didn't ruin our trip. For the price, location, and ammenitites, we would definitely stay here again if we visit.

This is a wonderful place to stay in Vail.  I would come again. My family stayed here for nine nights in late March/April, during COVID.  I'll break down Pros/Cons... Pros: -Nicely decorated hotel, big rooms, good storage space. -Outdoor pool and hot tub (which my teenagers loved). -Clean and seems to be sanitized well (COVID). -Towel and trash service daily (during COVID), and full service every three days (per check in, however, we received full service daily). -Good selection for grab and go breakfast. -Great staff (except when it came to parking - more below). -Coffee, tea, hot chocolate all day!  (If there is no decaf, ask for it to be available during your stay). Cons: -Some rooms (mine included), have the pool directly outside the window on the same level!  So much for enjoying the town and Mountain View's.  Also, this made the room quite noisy when the pool was in use. -Even with the heat turned down during our stay, the room is quite warm.  I'd love to open the slider, but then we get all the unfiltered noise from the pool.  (I would think this occurs due to the room facing South). -As for the parking...  There are 5 spots directly in front of the hotel and more underneath (a level down with no elevator).  When I arrived I lucked out and parked in one of the 5 spots in front.  Later in the day I was blocked in by another car.  I went to the front desk to let them know, and they said "the spots in front are reserved for handicap guests".  Well, I do have a handicap placard as it is hard for me to walk distances or lots of steps.  The next day the 5 spots were taken.  Two by large vehicles that would not fit in the underground garage, but three by normal sized cars without placards or handicap plates.  Now, the person at the front desk said "it's first come first served".  Which means the person who first told me I shouldn't park there as it's reserved for handicap parking was fibbing.  There are NO spots reserved for handicap drivers.  And those who park in the underground garage must take the steps. A last note:  If you ask for a room facing the creek, the first two issues would be avoided.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! We booked King room 5 months in advanced. We got 2 double beds. Same thing happened to 3 other couples in our group. Hotel parking is tight (which is expected in Vail) but completely inadequate for the property. Hotel is VERY VERY LOUD! Outdoor noise thruout the night. Interior has no AC... you could open patio door but it's shared with a stranger next door so that is awkward! Early in the morning the cleaning staff is yelling up & down the halls!!!! And the walls are paper thin so don't plan on relaxing and sleeping in! Skimpy "continental breakfast" & very little seating.... the coffee is good. Front desk can't solve these larger issues but they could take a lesson in being happy... they must be too busy having cars towed for lack of parking. Hotel needs a complete renovation top to bottom!!! Don't stay here! Not worth it!

I love this hotel. Free parking, fancy Buffett style breakfast, unlimited coffee and tea 24/7, free bike rental, and my room was in high demand for the view of the river it offered from my balcony. Clean, friendly staff, love the hot tub and pool on 2nd floor (rooftop). Would love to stay here again in the future, centrally locates to all other activities.

After spending summers and winters in Vail for the better part of 20 years, it is a place that grows on you like an old friend you can't quite quit. Some times there is comfort in familiarity. It can, however, be so bubbled going in to town possesses the jarring feeling of juxtaposition - like waking from a dream on a bed of clouds to having to run blocks for the last cup of coffee at your favorite Midtown breaky booth. Rant aside the terrain is vast, even with current limited terrain, and après-ski festivities can have a warmth that keep you out of the house past the "holy hour" as I call it, lift closing at four. Après, of course, officially begins at 4:00:00:01. :) And yes, it and everything else draws you back year after year. There's something to be said for routine in a resort town, knowing exactly what you're going to get. But after near-decades of visits, Vail's habitual charm, though solid, can't always beat the polish of Aspen. While Vail is unquestionably comforting and consistent, Aspen offers something more refined: quality service pretty much 100% of the time. There's an undeniable level of attention from instructors to high-end retail staff. The experience is tailored, not transactional. In Vail, by contrast, service is oft hurried even indifferent. At worst, it can drip with envy. The t-shirt girl who ignores, the hostess offering crass commentary to a coworker about guests. Even though you know it's about someone else it's so fun to stop and ask: "What, wait. I'm a seasonal sojourner. Are you talking about me?" Talk about a master class in making a person's face go flush! Aspen, however, always seems to maintain a small-town elegance, more authentic personas, or at least better (worthy of an Oscar) acting. And, it makes all the difference. Then there's the familiar, quietly loaded question you hear most often in Vail - from attendants, gallery owners, even bartenders: "How long are you in town for?" It's not really about your itinerary; it's about your wallet. Locals and seasonal workers tend to gauge your response to place you in their hierarchy of visitors. It's an odd ritual, and it always stops them cold if you reply, "We have a home here." Suddenly, the conversation shifts. No follow-ups. No small talk. Just instant deference. In the end, Vail remains a beloved habitat, but Aspen's refinement and superior service give it undeniable edge. Still, both stand so far above other ski destinations that comparing them to lower elevation or lower design standards, kinda feels unnecessary and, at worst, unfair.

Gone are the days when renting skis/snowboards were part of the fun experience and we chatted with locals who loved their jobs. Now, Epic grossly understaffs their rental services and their ski lift employees. As a result, many of the workers appear to have stopped caring and the excitement we may have felt about skiing/snowboarding is washed away by a growing frustration that we may pick up from the stressed workers. The ski lift experience--that was once run by fun people who were as excited to be there as we were--is now understaffed and some of the workers seem to take it out on the customers. We witnessed workers harass customers with accusational questions, as if they were certain that the customers were using someone else's pass. They made big deals about it, calling security in a loud, attention-seeking manner that seemed to intentionally intimidate, and I wondered if these workers would be good candidates for ICE agents. One of the people I witnessed them harass was a special needs young man that was alone in line. he simply shut down and it was awful to see. Their prices are ridiculously high and are no refundable. we had 2 family members that couldn't go because they had the flu and Epic said they required proof. After we sent a doctor's note, they still did nothing. Epic is a chaotic, angry nightmare and put profit over people, ruining an otherwise fun ski trip with their poor customer service.

We needed some food, but were over Thanksgiving food for the day, and Amanda and Ben helped us out in Fitz's lounge in getting some mac and cheese off the shown menu. They have two heated pools. The other one had a waterfall feature, but we never really went to that one just because of convenience. We liked ours with two hot tubs of varying levels of heat, and apparently redone in the last year. The steam room was busted during our visit, but they have that and a sauna available, along with a spacious fitness facility that we never used. Their cool ceiling fans are pictured below also...very unique looking ones in each of our rooms. The parking onsite is underground, and I liked it because I didn't have to ask to get something in or out of my car through a valet person. We had an included breakfast, and it was high quality food, and even had an omelette station. The lobby had a great Christmas tree, along with a side room with a piano (which they allowed me to play at night). I love everything about this place, and it was a short walk to Vail Village and anything you needed or wanted to partake in. I highly recommend this place, and see you there next time...

Last year, the little teepee-like warming hut was packed to the gills with big groups of friends drying off, staying warm and gathered aroung huge carved wooden chairs and tables eating feasts I had a hard time believing people could haul up in a backpack. Sandwiches, fruit, veggies, salads, chips, cookies, brownies, wine, beer, champagne...in fact one table had what looked like an entire full bar with mixers. The big grill outside - in spite of whiteout conditions and freezing cold temps - was full of burgers, brats, buffalo, elk loin, venison, shrimp, veggie skewers, etc. Everyone inside shares condiments, plates, napkins and the like. There's even a microwave. This past Saturday, the hut was empty and everyone was gathered around the grill or sitting in chairs or snow drifts soaking up the sunshine, with beers and wine plopped in the snow to chill. Henry the dog is always there looking for a pat on the head or an extra bite of snausage. The best part is seeing so many people in costume. I think some people make a day of hanging out at the Hut, and don't even ski much. You only have to take two lifts up (Vista Bahn and Mountaintop Express) to get here and you could easily take cat tracks back to the base of the Village, which explains all of the small children wearing butterfly wings who can barely toddle around. Henry's is much easier to access than the grills at Belle's Camp in Blue Sky Basin. You're at the top of three lifts so you can take runs while you leave someone to man your food on the communal grill. The front side of Vail Mountain is tough for an average/timid snowboarder like myself to navigate, full of steep black diamond runs or flat cat tracks, but hanging out with friendly people at Henry's Hut for an hour or two can absolutely make the day worthwhile. We traded swigs of whiskey for chips, pretzels for bites of aged cheese, buns for beers. I was almost able to block out that just a short time after my grillfest, I slid down the iciest part of Riva Ridge on my butt and looked like a fool.

I know the men who run this hotel are from back east & true - east coasters can be "abrupt." I'm from New York & can call this as it was which just bordered on rude. I made a point to check out late with the front desk & told them I had food in the fridge we were taking home. I'd bought really nice cheese, pate & wine for a friend's birthday, along with leftovers from a very nice, expensive meal the night before. We walked around town that morning & came back to the hotel to grab the food & check out. The room was uncleaned & looked untouched when we walked back in but the refrigerator had been completely emptied! I checked with the front desk on what happened & was eventually told everything had been thrown out. What was the point of me telling them exactly what I was doing?! What a waste of money with everything that was thrown out & no attempt was made at making this good for me. I was very disappointed with the service. It was an inexpensive room (in the off season) & the view was nice though the room was dated & the elevator smelled.

PROS: Price - this condo is by far the least expensive place I've ever stayed in Vail. It is so reasonably priced that it's really hard to complain about anything. Location - this is the biggest pro of all. You are right in the middle of everything in Lionshead Village with an easy walk anywhere you want to go. I'm not sure how to classify this one, but the room and bathroom was scrupulously clean, which is always very important to me anywhere I stay. CONS: The decor is very dated and made it feel a little cheap and shabby. The sofa bed was horribly uncomfortable. It sounds silly, but there wasn't a guide for the TV channels and it wasn't on the screen itself, so if you watch TV, there will be lots of clicking around. And the things in the middle - one, there is very little parking; they have less parking than they have rooms, so beware if you are driving. We never had any issues finding a spot, but it's a little quieter in August. Finally, and I hesitate to mention this because we did not say anything to the management, but the HVAC in our room did not work. It wasn't such a big deal because the weather was very temperate and we could leave the balcony door open, but at the same time, there wasn't a screen on the sliding door, so we had some winged visitors. All in all, A-OK is probably the best way to describe the Lifthouse. I don't know if I would stay there again myself, but if someone was looking for a really reasonable room in Vail, I wouldn't hesitate to point them here with a few caveats.
