The Sebastian, Vail is a 5-star resort located in the heart of Vail, Colorado & it's the perfect place for you (and your furry friend) to enjoy & unwind in the Rocky Mountains. Ross and I stayed at The Sebastian for the first time this year and it certainly won't be the last. During our stay we were in a One Bedroom Residence and we brought our dog Forbes along with us. Upon arrival at The Sebastian, we truly felt like we had arrived somewhere magnificent in the mountains (because we had); the Porte-cochère & lobby of The Sebastian is quintessential Vail in all of it's grandeur with large wooden beams, beautiful stonework, a rod iron chandelier and a blazing rod-iron fireplace. The Sebastian's staff is certainly 5-star and catered to us with speed and professionalism. The valets & front staff greeted us and got us sorted for our stay. Our bags were retrieved from the car and we valeted our car for the weekend - valet parking costs USD 45 per day with in/out privileges. The front desk allowed us to check-in early at 2pm. Check-in is normally at 4pm. Before we headed to our room, the front desk staff gave Forbes a treat (we loved this thoughtful touch). Pets are allowed at The Sebastian for an extra charge of $150 per pet, per stay (Service animals are exempt from fees). For additional details on pet restrictions and to request pet-friendly rooms, contact the property prior to your stay - this is what we did and everything had been taken care of upon our check-in. We chose the One Bedroom Residence for our stay at The Sebastian. The One Bedroom Residence had a bedroom with 1 King Bed, 2 full bathrooms with walk-in showers, a dining area, a sitting area and a porch looking out onto the mountains. The bedroom was nice albeit a little dark (but that's me being incredibly picky lol, I wish the windows in the bedroom were a BIT larger to allow in more natural light). The king bed was super comfortable and we slept like babies. We loved that there were two bathrooms in the One Bedroom Residence so Ross could get out of my hair (literally lol) while I got ready each morning and evening. We all (especially Forbes) loved the porch that was accessible from the dining area. The view and fresh air gave us the full Vail experience. We enjoyed drinking our morning coffee out on the porch and listening to Vail wake up. Room Service at The Sebastian was speedy & delicious. We recommend getting some wine and a charcuterie board to start off your stay. For some late night dining, try the elk burger; it was amazing. The One Bedroom Residence is a great spot to entertain if you have friends and family staying in The Sebastian as well. We ordered several drinks from room service and had a little late night cocktail hour one night - so fun! For photo ops within The Sebastian, the lobby & the fireplace makes for a great bouj background. The Sebastian has a gorgeous pool with multiple hot tubs that are heated and ready to use year round. There are several biking and hiking trails right by the hotel that the front-desk can advise you on. The hotel offers bicycle rentals on site. During the winter ski season, Vail Ski Resort is a 2 min walk from the hotel and the Born Free Express Lift is a 15 min walk from the hotel. There are free shuttle services from the hotel to the ski lifts. The Sebastian offers ski equipment rentals and storage for hotel guests. The Sebastian is in the perfect location in Vail to walk to some of my favorite places: - Leonora - located within The Sebastian. Go for dinner and make sure to get the churros for dessert! - Vintage - my favorite place for brunch in Vail. Get the bottomless mimosas, avocado toast & pancakes. - Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory - sweet snacks. The milk chocolate fudge slaps! - La Tour - French Bistro. Avoid This Hotel at All Costs If you value cleanliness, good service, or honesty in advertising, do not stay here. The hotel's listing claimed "luxurious mountain retreat", "elevated experience, "recent renovations" and showed beautiful photos, but my experience was nothing like what was advertised. We booked a 5-night stay for New Year's week to celebrate my birthday, paying $10,000 during peak pricing. We chose this hotel for its location over newer and less expensive options, only to be met with a room that was outdated, dirty, and poorly maintained. Room Conditions: * Stained carpets and walls * Damaged headboard and cracked bathroom tiles * Moldy, peeling wallpaper and a musty, moldy smell in the bathroom * Dirty towels, scratched lamps, toothpaste spatter on the mirror, and stained sink and counters * A broken deadbolt on the door Service: The service was equally disappointing. At check-in, I immediately reported the room's condition, but the front desk staff refused to assist, telling me to speak to a manager the next morning. Over the next two days, I spoke with several staff members, including those claiming to be managers, yet nothing was resolved. I was told no other rooms were available, and they could not do anything. I asked to check out early and cancel my remaining days of my prepaid stay. They did agree but I am still waiting for refund. One manager, Bryanna, was especially rude and dismissive, showing no willingness to help. The staff seemed inexperienced and untrained, which I later learned was due to new management. Final Thoughts: This stay has been a nightmare. I've wasted days of my trip trying to resolve these issues with the hotel and Expedia, and I am still waiting for a refund for the unused nights. On top of that, the bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable, with no alternatives offered. This hotel is overpriced, poorly managed, and far from the luxury experience it advertises. Disappointing Experience from Start to Finish We stayed here for a wedding and extended our trip, but the stay was riddled with issues. Reservation confusion: The booking link didn't work, and my reservation was lost despite getting a confirmation number. A/C problems: Our room never cooled below 71°, and we weren't informed in advance. Many guests were moved due to hot rooms. Unclear upgrade & room mix-up: We were confused about our room upgrade, never received requested water, and staff miscommunicated about room assignments--including overhearing our situation discussed with another guest. Poor communication: The concierge was unreachable, calls weren't returned, and housekeeping repeatedly entered our room despite a "Do Not Disturb" sign. Billing issues: A mysterious bike rental charge and unclear final bill required hours to sort out. We also missed a 10% discount that wasn't clearly explained. Wedding dinner mishap: Our seating was wrong, and a server reacted rudely when we mentioned it. Unprofessional management: The front office manager was indifferent when I shared feedback, and staff follow-through was inconsistent. Room condition: The couch was dirty, and the suite layout was awkward. Positives: Some staff--like Victor (bellman), Kimberly, Mia, Mary (spa), and Bryanna (group coordinator)--were kind and helpful. The bed was comfortable, and the spa gave me a generous discount. The hotel also offered partial compensation: waived fees, 40% off, and one free night--but given the extent of the issues, we felt the stay should have been fully comped. We won't be returning. Check-in and Arrival Our arrival was delayed when a team member recovering from surgery was unable to assist with luggage, we unloaded and took the luggage on a cart. Room Comfort The first room we were assigned had neither air conditioning nor hot water. Although the hotel offered us a different room, the replacement still lacked A/C, although airflow was better and we had a hot water. It's an inconvenience to repack and move floors and unpack again. Amenities The hot tub was initially inoperable; after a few hours the maintenance team had it resolved, --but the delay was frustrating as it changed our plans for the morning. The restaurant was closed so we were not able to try it. Rates and Value When we asked about extending our stay, the quoted rate was nearly double what we originally paid. The significant jump didn't align with our experience of multiple maintenance issues, some sort of concession would've been appreciated. Service and Location Staff interaction was warm, attentive, and apologetic. Their genuine friendliness and willingness to help were the highlight of our visit. The hotel's location in Vail Village is unbeatable--right in the heart of the action, with shops and restaurants just steps away. Overall While The Sebastian's team and its central setting make it an appealing choice, the persistent maintenance problems--and the steep extension rate--mean we're unlikely to return. read more

We came to spend Veteran's Day here. For 2021, that was a snowy day. Having just adjusted our clock back for Daylight Savings, the road was dark at 4:30pm. My point is we drove all the way here during bad driving condition and thankfully, The Sebastian didn't disappoint! It also hadn't hit peak season yet so we had a very peaceful, non-crowded stay. We had the pool all to ourselves; wondering about the lobby and public area felt good; and we had a great dinner at the restaurant on site - Leonara. By the time we got home and I started doing laundry, my shirt still carry that wonderful room fragrance from The Sebastian! read more

Great location, but it ends there. I stayed here several years back & had a great experience. However my most recent stay (05/2023) completely changes my opinion. My suggestion would be that they just close for business on the off season. Pre stay - I received a call, days before check in, feeling me out, like a sleazy time share promotion, as if Orlando FL was my destination. During stay - From a terribly slow check in process, to less than desirable in room dining (I'm being kind) and an absurd "resort fee" added to the nightly rate, it quickly adds up to - look for another hotel. Perfect location ! Right in the heart of Vail Village. Walk to everywhere! We stayed at the 1 bedroom suite with two full baths. Comfortable bed, feather pillows, beautiful bathrooms! Hotel has a nice restaurant that we went for breakfast and a spa. Beautifully decorated lobby and all the surroundings. This hotel has a beautiful lobby and library where I sat when I had to get some work done. Parking is way too expensive and they should have a self park option. The location is great and you're right in Vail Village when you walk out the back door just past the lobby. My room faced what seem to be the back and there were early morning noisy deliveries and people. Wouldn't hurt to bring some earplugs. The whole time of my stay, the water in my room was cold and you had to run it for a long time to get it to warm up. I didn't eat at any of the restaurants (I called one to order something that was listed on their online menu, but that was out of date and they didn't have up that). Room service was very quick. I did get a knock at my door (presumably housekeeping) when I had the DND on and I was on a work call, so that was frustrating. read more

So, I stayed at this Hotel for 4 nights and I had 2 rooms. One night my son did not want to go out to eat so I ordered room service for him. Room service on top of the food price, they charge a delivery fee, a service charge see if 21 % and they expect and additional tip on top of that. To me it was / is an absurd to charge 21% service fee and delivery charge and still expect extra tip. Because I didn't added extra tip they called my room and spoke to my son a Minor , about how I didn't tip and that I had used " foul" words with the person that delivered the food.keep in mind that I did not speak to the delivery person, all I did was sign the Bill and she left the tray of food on top of the table. Number one : I am not obligated to tip on top of a service charge and delivery fee. Second: No one at this hotel has the right to call my room 3x and speak with a minor. Period. Each of my room cost me 2600 us for 4 days, which ain't cheap, I would expect a better service and I would expect an adult/worker not to speak with a minor. read more

I went here for a weekend "colorado staycation" and they had a deal going that waived the resort fee. It was not cheap, but hey, its Vail yo. What you gonna do?? I went with my 5yr old son and the free arcade room was such a mega hit with him and I. He had never tried air hockey before but we had such a fun time - I loved that all the games were free!! total bonus. They also have a nice pool and a lil tots room that is open for kids to hang out in. The rooms was a decent size, and I loved walking in with the music station on the TV, it had that cool hotel vibe. They also offer you homemade cookies/biscotti every day you are there which is lovely. There is a spa on the 1st floor too, so if you have childcare arranged in advance you can take advantage of the spa (but you have to arrange babysitting way before you arrive). Other things I liked about this hotel was the food was ok, but even better it was walking distance to many other good eateries and a lil deli/grocery place. Also, just out the side back door there is a bus stop for the free bus all over Vail. You have to valet park here, but its ok, average prices. The concierge services are super nice and all the staff were extremely friendly. read more

The hotel, lobby, pool are nice. That's why it gets 3 stars. The rooms are nice too. The problem is when you pay $1000+ a night for a suite and the patio/balcony has no furniture. Housekeeping parks their laundry cart between your two doors for FOUR days and you ask them to move it and they give you sass. The living area smells like smoke. One elevator is working between 3. At the pool, nobody came to take our drink order and there were servers. The rooms were both HOT even though they had separate systems, despite having them set at 62... and the road noise was so loud we couldn't open the doors for air without being kept up at night by it...even with the doors closed this was an issue. Our car which needs to be charged, we noticed from the app they never connected to a charger and we had to go ask them to connect it. That's never once happened before at any hotel we've stayed at. Valet has always understood this to be a given when charging was available on site...except here at The Sebastian. Now, the reality is none of these things are THAT big of a deal individually. Put them all together and it paints a picture of poor management at every level and a lack of care for detail in all departments. I'll take my $1000+ a night and go to the four seasons next time. Wonderful hotel, awesome location, friendly and attentive staff, but not perfect... some issues with the room such as a broken appliance and their bar/restaurant are m'eh at best, unfortunately. Our room was spacious and comfortable, good bed, plenty of pillows, good towels. Their Basecamp by the Gondola is fantastic and they'll move your ski/snowboarding gear during season or bikes off-season. Our stay was everything we could have ever hoped for! From the luxury hot tubs and bar service delivery to the pool area to the spacious room with a very comfortable bed and pillows. But most of all the staff was incredibly helpful and always made us feel special. As well as a special mention to the Valet staff. Those guys were always willing to take us anywhere around the resort and gave us amazing recommendations to where to eat and drink. We've stayed there twice now during the summer, so can't really say how they do during the big winter season, but the staff was terrific. They recently won the top award for best small hotel in the US and I can see why The staff is great and if you use their iPrefer rewards service, the pricing can be very good. Always helpful, they are in the heart of Vail which makes it easy to get anywhere in the resort. There are so many amenities there from the terrific rooms to the really nice complimentary snacks in the rooms and sodas as well to the incredible service. At one point we wanted a particular dessert wine and the manager of one restaurant (Block 16) actually came down to the lobby bar to deliver it for us. The rooms are wonderful and cozy and the hot tub and pool are are compact but very well maintained. Some in reviews have said their service was in attentive, but we didn't find that at all, so YMMV read more

Amazing experience, start to finish. From the time we pulled up, the valet and counter people were helpful and friendly. Our contact with every employee was a smile filled exchange of welcoming comments and assistance. Even the offer of coffee at the front desk when i mentioned the long ride in was a treat. Our room was very clean and surprisingly well appointed. It was wonderful to find that the treats in the room were complimentary as well. Fantastic location right in the heart of vail village. Hotel is surrounded by charming restaurants and shops. The service level was excellent ( was impressed with the little things like different fresh baked goods left in room nightly as part of turn down service). The spa was great and the massage I had was outstanding. Great pool although there is very limited seating. Loved the complimentary car service. Close to outdoor activities ( hikes etc) short drive to horseback riding and water rafting. Rooms are clean, spacious and beautifully furnished. Front desk staff provided excellent customer service. I visited the Sebastian over the holiday weekend with my 16 year old son, Benny. The first room, which we had for two nights, was a dungeon. There was very light sunlight (on sunny days!) as the only 2 windows looked out into an interior concrete mineshaft. I swear I saw a vein of iron ore towards the bottom. They couldn't upgrade us given our American Express FHR booking, so that was a bummer. The other hotels mentioned below always make a effort to upgrade us. We eventually landed a room with the potential for some sunlight. It was ok but disappointing compared to my many experiences at the Sonnenalp, Arrabelle and the Marriott Vail. Oddly, each double bed room we saw had the TV way off center and the bracket didn't swivel. TV for one please! The hotel lobby is nicely appointed. The smores, coffee, cookies after skiing - all gone. You couldn't help but wonder if this was to cut costs and not only because of Covid. The same goes for housekeeping. It was almost nonexistent during our stay although they said we could call for it; feels like work to me. The ski valet was 9/10 stars. Good location, nice group of folks working there. The complimentary newspapers were a nice touch. Breakfast was 9/10 stars. The food is good, as was the service. However, they are in desperate need of additional staff to bus the tables (and lessen the wait). My son Benny went to the spa and the reviews were positive. All and all, I will not be returning to the Sebastian. I gave it a try this year but the dark room and lack of common areas make a repeat visit unlikely. read more

The stay was OK, rooms are nice and cozy and the room amenities are great (gym, pool). Dinner in the restaurant was flavorless. There was horrible service in the hotel bar - friends sat for 20 minutes waiting for service and we were the only ones in there. Post stay we realized we left a family heirloom behind (a ring)...calling the next day as well as the day after to see if it had been reported to lost and found by housekeeping and sadly nothing. I asked if someone would be willing to sweep the room once more just in case and the receptionist rudely said no and that the hotel was too busy for such a request. Plenty of places to stay in Vail that would not treat guests this way. Can you find our ring please? read more

My husband and I only had a few days to relax after our wedding and decided to go for broke and stay at a swanky hotel in Vail. Wow, we were SO disappointed. We arrived and were promptly greeted by the valet who took our car. We were left alone to muster our bags to our rooms and checked in. Almost immediately we were asked when we wanted to schedule our cheese plate for our 2 day stay. I was a little taken aback by the forcefulness of the individual asking the question. It's an easy question, but she asked like it was the biggest deal in the world and that I should of course be prepared to answer. Weird. We deflected and asked kindly if we could let them know once we settle in and know what we're doing a bit more. We got up to our room and our view faced the roof pitches of the building with a sliver of scene in town. How disappointing to come all the way to Vail to pay A LOT of money a night to not even get a view in an essentially empty hotel. We stayed Sunday - Tuesday. The room itself, however, was cozy and beautiful. That night, exhausted from the wedding the day before, we opted to stay in and order room service. Room service is ALWAYS expensive, but nearly $90 for a flavorless flat bread, burger, 2 sodas and an ice cream sandwich seems beyond extreme. The next morning, I realized that I had left my feminine products in the car. GUYS - skip to the next paragraph if you're squeamish. I get VERY VERY VERY heavy periods and need special products to deal with them. I called down to the desk first thing in the a.m. and asked that my car be brought around. I went downstairs, GUSHING blood, and waited for the car. 15 minutes of dancing and hemorrhaging later, I went to the front desk. It was a girl luckily and I explained that I had called down earlier, had my period and desperately needed feminine products from the car. She got on the headset and offered me a tampon. I explained I can't wear them, but thanked her for the offer. 10 more minutes went by until I finally saw a valet. I begged him to get my car explaining I had waited nearly 30 minutes (and it was more like 40 from the time I called down) and desperately needed something inside. I tipped him and he arrived with the car. Again - no offer of assistance with bags. I explained that we needed to leave in less than an hour and that we'd need our car again. Luckily he left the car and were able to get back in. The staff at the breakfast restaurant was AMAZING. They were kind, quick, efficient and the food was fantastic. We were a little put off by the coupons for breakfast as we believed when we booked that the Romance Package offered breakfast in bed, but didn't think it was worth addressing. The restaurant staff offered us congratulations at being newlyweds and were simply lovely. Upon leaving breakfast that first morning, my husband let the desk know that we wanted our cheese tray for 5 pm that night. At 2 pm we had a couples massage booked at the Bloom Spa. This was part of the Romance Package we booked. We upgraded a few services on the phone when we booked months ago and were super excited about it. The massages were amazing although the add-ons were not. They put some kind of nasty goop in our hair and wrapped our feet in bags without really rubbing them. When we went to check out, we were presented with a $450 bill! So much for the relaxation. Once we explained that we were part of the romance package, they took $250 off (the price of the original massage), but charged us an additional $200. That $200 was for hair goop and foot bags? I get massages in Denver on the regular for about $100 for 50 minutes. I certainly realize that Vail is more expensive, but I didn't anticipate that it would be DOUBLE the cost! I felt cheated for sure. After our massage, 5 pm came and went and at about 615 we called down to the desk to find out what happened to our cheese tray. They brought it right up, but it's just silly that we had to call again to request it again. I am so disappointed at this experience and wish we'd stayed elsewhere. We wouldn't have minded all the expenses if we felt taken care of and welcome. Instead it felt more like we were staying at the Holiday Inn at EXTREMELY inflated prices. I really liked this hotel and would definitely stay here again-- given it was my first time in Vail, I have no reference for comparison-- but I'm a seasoned hotel hopper, so I know what the fu*k is up-- and this place is on the up-n-up.... the beds were comfy, the rooms had an espresso maker with complimentary cartridges, on demand TV (HBO only tho, c'mon u guys stop bein stingy), 4 hot tubs, nice pool area with a long fire pit, cool little gym, clean spa and sauna areas..... and the best part was the customer service-- especially Spencer and Eric-- thanks for making my trip that much easier! everyone had a really professional but cool attitude-- not pretentious like it could be.... and my ladies at Frost Bar took care of me-- i'll be back just so i can have a night out with u girls thanks for everything! read more

Well my friends and I decided to make a little trip to Vail earlier this month. Due to our horrible planning we arrived one week early to the season but who wants to ski anyways when your from Austin,Tx. We were so lucky to book here at the Sebastian, from the minute we arrived to valet our vehicle it was like we were in Santa Claus land with the nicest staff I've ever met. The rooms were nice, gym, hot tubs, breakfast buffet to die for, beautiful views, 3am room service, a bar in the lobby and maybe my favorite feature a living room type setting in the lobby with chess boards and a fireplace. We enjoyed the the whole village of Vail and thanks to a couple of the employees for always pointing us in the right direction. One was name Billy I believe and the other was Andrew, we met them in separate area of the hotel but both were very professional and knowledgeable of the area and the hotel. We even got to get on the slopes in a nearby village called Copper. Thank you so much to the Sebastian staff for making our Colorado trip amazing!!!! read more

This review is only of the main bar, not the hotel so read into it what you will. I always think that a hotel bar is an accurate thermometer of how well the hotel functions. If the bar staff are on their game, if they are friendly, professional, attentive, tuned into the guests needs, then its a good sign. Sadly I have been to the bar twice now at The Sebastian in Vail and eaten the same thing twice. Both times the burger was average and on the second time, I asked them to hold the aioli on the bun and yet it still came out. More importantly, the male bar staff seem totally ambivalent to serving their customers. They complained that the kitchen is a long way away and its a pain to get things. On the way to The Sebastian, I walked thru the Four Seasons which is across the road. That place was pumping. If you are visiting Vail (and as a resident Aussie of Colorado) who spends all winter in the mountains, the Sebastian might be a 5 star property to stay at, but there are a lot better bars to drink and eat at. read more

Awesome place in season or off, the Vail resort town is a lovely place and this property is beautiful. You really get some nice rooms right in the middle of the action. We stayed here for Labor Day and had a blast, they had some type of food festival that was very nice. I would recommend coming here for a nice getaway at least once. As I said, we came off season and had a wonderful time, I'm sure you would too. read more

Due to the unexpected closure of I70, I spent an unplanned evening at the Sebastian. There was an issue with my room that evening. But before I could even complain about it at checkout, the front desk attendant, Coleman, made things right. What could had been an unpleasant event was something good I wanted to share in a good review. I wish more businesses would realized that bad experiences are opportunities to show your true colors. So instead a swearing never to stay at the Sebastian again, I look forward to my next stay and also recommend the hotel to others. read more

I stayed here on my first trip to Vail at the end of summer. Apparently the hotel was full but you would never know it - as it seemed pretty empty in all the public areas - except the pool. The room was large, well furnished. Cozy, mountain decor. The bathroom left something to be desired and definitely is 10 years overdue for an upgrade. The pool area was not big, but really nice. The hotel gym was large, had lots of cardio, weight machines and free weights. It's located in the middle of vail village which is very convenient. Would be a small hike to the lifts though if we were here in the winter. Overall - this is a nice hotel and we would stay here again. Not a 6 star review because the rooms could use some updates. read more

One of the best 4+ stars hotels I've stayed at. Awesome staff-all are friendly and try to make your trip perfect. Our 25$/night parking fee was comp'd, our room (which was purchased for 100$/night on priceline) was upgraded with hesitation. The valet's and front desk staff were always nice and gave us waters when we arrived and other goodies. There was a free champagne and white truffle chocolate popcorn event at 7 on Friday which was fun, we showed up and had a few glasses and took the popcorn up to the room to have with our movie later. My GF had a headache and we called the front desk and they brought up some advil for us within 10 minutes. They hotel has a red box type movie rental hub with alot of new movies that you can get for free which was cool. Most hotels nowadays try to charge you north of 15$ to rent a movie in your room. Speaking of room, every room comes with a Nespresso machine so we made a ton of fresh espresso in our room which ROCKED! especially because it was cold and snowy out. Rooms weren't crazy luxurious or anything but were nice and clean with dvd players and the aforementioned espresso machines. We don't spend a ton of time in the room so it was exactly what we wanted. The hotel also has a lot of library-type nooks which was cozy and cool to hang in (check out the big fireplace in the lobby! We will be back! great place read more
